2 year contract No More..?

My 2 year contract is up and I keep hearing about this NEXT program. I would like to say I AM NOT INTERESTED. My Question is this..Is AT&T done with the 2 year contract upgrades? I can't get free phone upgrades anymore..?

I was just on the phone with an AT&T associate.
As of June 2015, 2 year contract upgrades are no longer available in store or online. You can according the phone associate call and upgrade over the phone to use the classic 2 year upgrade option, which will result in you having to wait 2-3 business days to receive your phone.
AT&T has seen the rise in popularity with Tmobile's no contract plan and modeled their future accordingly. Until I see the numbers side by side from a 2 year upgrade and a 24 month installment plan, it is my impression that AT&T is gouging its customers and ignoring people with good credit. The main reason people use Tmobile is because of little or no credit and the ease of unlocking a phone. If you have good credit and don't need to unlock your phone, it seems as though one would be getting taking advantage of.
By AT&T doing installment plans they no longer have to recoup the price difference for the phone over a 2 year contract as you pay it all in installments. There is word of a plan discount when you enroll in the installment package, but is it more beneficial financially to customers with good credit or is it simply more money for AT&T?

okay i want to go to smart phone with 2 year contract. i am wavoring between the 2g to 4g plan. verizon has decided not to chat with me for the moment. because i'm annoying. my question is, can i alter the G factor as i go if i need more need less and leave everything else the same?

you can start out low and increase your data allowance as you need throughout the month, backdating it to the beginning of the billing cycle so you don't have overages; however, I found out the hard way that you cannot decrease your data allowance during the month and backdate it so you don't overpay for unused data.
what I do now is reset my data allowance to 2GB at the beginning of every bill cycle and then increase it if I get warnings that I'm going to go over... and I check it 3 days before my bill cycle ends to see if I think I might need to bump it up before the end of the bill cycle
it's annoying, but otherwise I end up paying thru the nose for overages or overpaying for data I don't use
BTW, I'm on the More Everything plan, which is the same plan you'll get unless you go Edge (where you pay the full price for the phone but don't get the 2-year commitment to it)

  • Can you still renew a 2 year contract for AT&T at BestBuy?

I was told that i wouldnt be able to renew my contract with best buy anymore. i planned on using my best buy credit card when i went in.

Hi andrew, Getting a new phone is an exciting process and we're glad you chose to come back to Best Buy Mobile. Unfortunately AT&T has discontinued 2-year contracts for new and existing customers. However, you are able to upgrade your phone through AT&T Next. For more information about AT&T Next and how it works, you can visit this link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mobile-Phones-Promotions/AT-T-Next/pcmcat332500050034.c?id=pcmcat332500050034 Sincerely,Alex M.

  • Can you get the iPhone 4 for $99 without a 2 year contract?

I want to get the Iphone 4, but if I haven't been with AT&T for more than 2 years (my contract 2 years yet) can I still get it for $99?

If I couldn't get it for $99 then what would be the alternative price for not having the 2 year contract?

  • MY account was not suppose to be a 2 year contract

When I signed up for my hot spot I specifically asked for a month to month prepaid plan.  I don't require use all the time.  I got this device for when I fly to smaller more remote airports or when I am on the road between cities I can use the wi-fi it provides as me cell phone carriers 4G service is not wide spread.  I knew it would only be once and while I would need to use it.  I have had so much trouble with my online account working that I rarely use it.  Today I log on there and see a link that says "check contract end dates".  On there I see that I am under a 2 year contract until July of 2016.  I am very frustrated.  I went to my local Verizon and they told me I had to call in that they could not help me......even though they are the ones who set it up.
For the record it took an hour for me to even get signed up.  The associate was using an ipad (or trying to) to set everything up.  I probably had to sign 8 different times during this process.  He would get all my information and fiddle with the device and get to a point then have to start over because the device kept failing.  I almost walked out during this process because the tech was clearly not working.  I wish I would have walked out now.  After way to many attempts he finally gave up and took me to a point of sale system at a desk.  I was upset by this point and he was clearly flustered.  My wife who was with me was just plain ticked off.... wrath that I faced later that day for for sticking around so long.
I am not happy with this entire process and seeing that the clerk signed me up for a 2 contract seems devious but I will assume for now it was the issues with his iPad that flustered him so much he messed up on my order.  I don't want to spend hours on the phone trying to deal with this, nor to I want to pay a cancellation fee.....I don't even want to cancel my service.  I just want to me on the correct plan I asked for.

I thought it was $99 at the time I could be wrong....that isn't the real point.  It could have been $1000 and I would have still paid full price to get the contract I wanted.  Money wan't and isn't an issue as far as the cost of the device or the EFT.
The first contract that came up on his device was for the month to month prepaid option. The second time he started over and rebooted his iPad app it was also the month to month.  We went through this a couple more times after that.  After a while of dealing with his ipad he had had me take a seat walked away with my credit card and came back about 5 minutes later.  He brought me up to the desk had me sign a signature pad attached to the register and handed me a bag with the hot spot in it and said I was good to go and that he was sorry it took so long.
I know I am a little intimidating and after so many failed attempts I probably wasn't overly quiet when mumbling my frustration to my wife. ( i do feel bad for that) so it was probably my fault he was so flustered. It still shouldn't take an hour to get 1 device. I think when he went to an actual point of sale after he gave up on the ipad is when he must have put me under the wrong plan.  I assumed the last information he put in the iPad was transferred over but it must not have.
The thing is I don't want leave Verizon.  I like everything they have to offer and no one has coverage like they do.  Thanks for your input.  If anything I got to vent out some of my frustration.  Hopefully they will will do right by me and if not then I will just hang my head and move on.

  • Hi I Have A Prepaid SmartPhone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line.

Hi I Have A Prepaid Smart Phone Right Now With Verizon For About 7-Months So Far. I Have Always Paid On Time No Missed Payments Good Standing Account, I Tried To Switch Over To A 2-Year Contract With Verizon And They Wanted A $400 Deposit For Only 1-Line. Is There Anyway I Can Use My Excellent Payment History With There Prepaid Department To Switch To A 2-Year Contract And Not Have To Pay The $400 Deposit. And This Is Due To The Fact I Have No Credit History Whatsoever

Since you have no credit history, my guess is you would need at least a year of on time payments, and I'm not sure a pre-paid account would qualify as you can stop at any time.
You didn't specify your age, but getting started int he credit world is not easy - you may try applying for a gas card, or a credit card, and USE them, pay them off each month - and expect to take a year or more to establish a record.

  • Want to open a 2 year contract

i'm tired of my father complain about the high cell phone bill so i plan to sign a 2 year contract. i want to get an iphone 4 but i am not due for an upgrade until october of this year. right now under my father's plan, i have 5000 texts a month which i've been going over recently. i've never had internet on my phone. so if i get my own plan, i'd like to have unlimited (or more than 5000) texting and unlimited web. i don't talk on the phone too much, but as long as i can have free calls to my parents, i should be fine. about how much would this cost me?

The lowest allowance of voice minutes on an individual plan is 450; add unlimited texting and an unlimited data plan, and it will be $59.99 (Talk & Text, 450) + $29.99 for data, $90 plus taxes and fees which vary based on where you live, say $10 average, so you are looking at around $100 a month to be on your own.
If that's too steep, perhaps you can OFFER to pay for your line and the texting and data on your parent's plan. That will be $29.99 for the unlimited data, $9.99 for your line, and then whatever texting package you want to add on. If the 5000 is not enough (that's a $20 add on), then for $10 more, you can have unlimited texting on ALL lines of the family plan, so you 'd be looking at $70 for your portion of the bill. Off to pay for that, and see if Dad stops complaining??

  • Signed a 1-year contract and then AT&T raised price

I was going to cancel my service in December last year, but when I called to cancel, AT&T offered U200 for a certain rate for 12 months in exchange for me signing a contract for one-year.  So I agreed to keep AT&T U-Verse for 1 year and pay that set price. Subsequent to our agreement, AT&T raised the bill by ~$4 in February (yes, the notification was in the December bill but that bill was generated after I entered into the one-year contract). I had an online chat with customer care and I was told that it is AT&T's policy to apply the rate increase even to customers who are under a contract.  I sent a private message this past weekend but I have yet to hear back. It is absurd that AT&T thinks this is okay: 1) If I cancel the service before December this year, I have to pay a penalty.2) Yet AT&T can raise the rate at any time without my consent.3) If I don't like the rate increase, I can cancel the service but I still have to pay the penalty. Is anyone else having this same issue (i.e., those who have to pay a penalty if they were to cancel within the contract period, similar to how cell phone contracts work)?  Please share your experience here.  Thanks.

  • 2 year contract vs Edge (upcoming iPhones)

I am currently under contract looking towards the new iPhones.  Here are my details
    -2 lines
    -unlimited talk/ text
-shared data 4GB (could possibly go to 6GB)
-month cost 150 before taxes (160 with 6GB)
With upcoming iPhone 6 I would have the subsidized prices with a new 2 year contract agreement.  I wanted to know if the verizon edge plan would be worth considering (with 10GB shared data).  I've been reading that if you have less than 10GB shared data then Edge isn't really worth considering over the 2 year contract over the long term.  Wanted to get people's opinion on the matter.
I'm looking at getting iPhone 6 128GB and iPhone 6 plus 64GB.  I talked with a rep and with EDGE it would be a month of about $33 and $38 respectively tacked onto the 160 plan w/ 10GB shared data.
Is EDGE worth it? Would love to hear your opinions.  Thanks for reading.

Only you can answer that. I would say that if you're on a sub 10 GB plan then no.
    On a subsidy your 2 phones would cost roughly $860, $400 each plus $30 upgrade fee. Plus taxes. $150 a month( 4 GB plan ) for 24 months is $3600. So total over 24 months is $4460 plus taxes/fees. With a 6 GB plan it's $4700. with 10 GB it's $5180
On Edge with a 10 GB plan over 24 months you're paying $215 a month for 20 months. And $130 for 4 months( assuming you get the Month2Month discount after your phones are paid off ) so a total of $4820. If you don't get the Month2Month discount then it's $5020
So if you're not interested in upgrading sooner than 2 years and if you really don't need more than 6 GB then I would say no. Kid of off topic but i would never pay $850 for a phone. And I wouldn't pay $400 for a subsidized on either.

  • 2 year contract on upgrading phone

Im a little confused. I changed my phone to a one year agreement so I could get a new phone each year but it sounds like each time I do this I move my contract up 2 years. If I do this the next 3 years I would then have a 6 year contract. Is this right? If so is there no way to keep my phone updated without this happening.

When you receive a new phone at a discounted price each year (annual upgrade), your contract is extended for 2 years from the date of the new contract.  It is not "added on" to your prior contract, it is a NEW 2 year contract from that date.  So you are never obligated to continue your contract for more than 2 years at any time.
For instance, you buy a new, discounted phone in January of 2010, and sign the contract through January 2012.  In January of 2011, you take advantage of the annual upgrade to get a new phone, and you sign a NEW contract for two years, through January of 2013.  Come January of 2012, you do the same thing, your contract is through January of 2014, two years from the CURRENT contract origination.

  • 2-year contract up?

How can I find out when my 2 year contract is up? I cannot remember exactly when i started services, I am thinking it was sept/oct of 2010. I want to cancel my services with Verizon but want to make sure I am not breaking the contract. Can anyone answer this for me? I'd really appreciate it!

Log into your online MyVerizon account
Scroll toward the middle of the screen and click on 'more actions'
Under 'device', click on 'phone details'
All the phones on your plan should be listed across the top; choose which phone you are interested in (remember that each has its own contract end date, assuming you have more than one phone on your account)
Click on 'view contract end date' (in blue)
A pop-up screen will show the contract end date for that phone

  • 2 year contract - GONE FROM BEST BUY?

I was looking to upgrade my AT&T contract at Best Buy and pre-order the LG G4 (since they have a $100 Gift Card offer) and it appears that AT&T is not allowing people to get a 2-year deal at NON-AT&T stores.  This sucks since AT&T never runs good promos like Best Buy.  I have an old Family Plan that is more cost effective than the new Family Share stuff that AT&T pushes now.  So, it looks like I have to switch to NEXT or pay full cost on the phone now.  Thanks AT&T....maybe I'll just switch.

Look at the total costs of each (contract vs. NEXT) at the end of two years. They are within $25-30 dollars of each other, and NEXT is much cheaper with 10 or more gig of shared data plan on 2 or more lines of service. Not sure how it would compare with the old Family Share Plan. Verizon works pretty similar with discounts for phones bought outright or on installment versus a 2 year contract. In my opinion, in less than a year, you won't see any carrier offering 2 year contracts. Every carrier is going to make the consumer buy their own device, either outright or on an installment plan. At lest the installment plans currently don't charge interest on the unpaid balance. It's been this way in Europe for years with Europeans thinking that Americans were crazy to lock ourselves into a 2 year contract with a particular carrier. Apparently, they like the ability to move from carrier to carrier depending on who has the best service and cheapest plan.

  • Signing up for 2 year contract

When my current contract was up, I tried to sign up for another 2 year contract.   Mentioning that the triple play was 79.99 and attempting to get a similar offer like new customers are getting, I was told that the best I could get for internet (50/50), phone and television even with a two year contract was $140.
Also I was told that could not receive a promotional gift card like new customers.  Why are new customers treated so much more favorably than existing customers.  I truly love Verizon's products but when calling Verizon, people were rude to me and told me that I am lucky even getting this "deal" of $140.  Where has the customer service gone and why are others eligible for this if they don't have a track record with Verizon ?
    INTERNET + TV + PHONE
79 99For 2 years. Plus taxes, equip. charges, FDV & other fees.2FiOS® TV Select HD + FiOS® Internet 25/25 Mbps + FiOS® Digital Voice Unlimited
    NO ANNUAL CONTRACT

Cable companies offer new customer pricing to get just that new customers. They take the loss of revenue in the hopes of keeping that customer long term and receiving full revenue for many years to come. When you were a new customer you already received that pricing. Now they want to receive full price from you. You would have to switch your provider for a time and if you decided to come back you would then receive new customer pricing once again. It is not just a Verizon practice it is an industry practice.

  • If I enter into a 2 year contract, after I pay the initial $199/299, are there any additional monthly fees added to account?

I currently have 2 smart phones and 1 dumb phone on my account, the smartphones were bought in 2011 & 2012, the dumb phone is even older than that, so they are all off contract. I'm looking to upgrade 1 (or both) of the smart phones. I'm currently paying $40 access fee on each smart phone, and am on the More Unlimited Talk/Text/3GB $60 plan.
I was wondering, If I enter a new 2 year contract for a new phone, and pay the initial $199/299, is there any additional charges added to the monthly bill? Or will it remain the same as now?
Also, If were to instead go for the edge program, would there be any additional fees added to monthly other than the ~$33 edge fee?
    Thanks!

You are overpaying now by $10 on each smartphone. There is an off contract month to month discount on smartphones on More Everything plan.
If you upgrade, you are no longer eligible for the discount, so you price will be the same you are paying now $40 for each smartphone.
