20 user office - RV042 a solution for us?

We have a 20-user office that needs a VPN firewall/router with NAT to access the Internet from their PC's and all 20 would like to work from home in the event of a snow storm. We have a T1 with a Ubigate iBG1000 from Covad that this would sit behind.
Would a RV042 work well for us?  How well does the Quick-VPN client work?  Can most any user install and use it easily from their XP, Vista or Win7 laptop?
Currently we have a DLink DIR-130 and it freezes up on us when its under moderate/high usage.

PS I am running Outlook 2007 on XP Pro.

What is the best solution for me to run Microsoft Access on my brand new iMAC?  Assume I'm a casual user.
I am lead to believe by some real smart guys on the Apple site that If I have the Apple Store partition my iMAC and add the full suite of Office products on that partition, I can run the few Access programs I have and need to run.
Comments encouraged.  Thank you in advance for your consideration and help.

You would have to install Windows, then install Microsoft Office Professional for Windows on it  To install Windows you will have to choose between Boot Camp (faster, free) and a Virtual Machine (simpler, slower, easier to backup)
You should try LibreOffice (free), it can open Access files, it may not have all Access's feature set though, worth a try.

  • Small Office Network Solution for Final Cut Server - Proxy Storage Etc.

    Hi,
I haven't been able to find any answers for this question by googling, So I would love if anyone here had some advice. I have the 10 License version of Final Cut Studio with 5 clients at the moment. I would like to set-up our office in the most effective way, however we are a non-profit organization, so we are working with a limited budget.
My question is, does anyone know of any networking solutions for Proxy Storage and Media storage, that wont bottleneck, but is not as high budget/high tech as using an Xserve/XSan system?
Right now we would be looking at running Final Cut Server off of our 24inch Intel IMac (Going to beef up the RAM). We have a Gigabit Switch, 4 more intel machines running final Cut pro, and a direct attached Drobo for Media Storage. I know this is not an Ideal set-up, but it's what I have to work with right now. So, I'm looking for any kinds of tips and tricks to make this set-up work for us, and am looking at purchasing either a Network Attached or iscsI storage system for the Proxy Storage.
I hope this is a decent description of my situation, and would love some advice.

    Hi Raghavendar,
Generally, when you install Lync 2013 in the computer with Office 2010, a Lync Meeting Add-in will be installed and enabled in Outlook 2010. Please follow these steps to check it:
    1. In Outlook, click the File tab, click Options, and then click
    Add-Ins.
    2. Please take one of the following actions:
If the add-in is in the Inactive Application Add-ins list, follow these steps:
    a. In the Manage drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog box, click
COM Add-ins, and then click Go.
    b. Click to select the check box next to the add-in, and then click OK.
The New Online Meeting button should now be available in
Calendar View, and the Online Meeting button should be available when you create a new calendar item.
If the add-in is in the Disabled Application add-ins list, follow these steps:
    a. In the Manage drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog box, click
Disabled Items, and then click Go.
    b. Select the add-in, and then click Enable.
    c. Restart Outlook, and then verify that the add-in is displayed in the
    Add-ins dialog box.
The New Online Meeting button should now be available in
Calendar View, and the Online Meeting button should now be available when you create a new calendar item.
    3. In Event Viewer, view the Application log to see whether an error was logged for Outlook, for Lync 2013, the Lync Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office 2013.

    Hi there!
Is there any solutions for convert document spreadsheet presentation to images with Office Web Apps?

    Hi,
As far as I know, there is no build-in feature that convert Office file to image format in Office web app yet.
I'll collect the information, and submit it with internal ways. Then, we could also submit the feedback here:

I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.

    Hello Friends,
I have a custom solution in ABAP that I am implementing at a customer. My customer needs a solution or a feature that is very specific to his company. I do not want to change the program that is only for that customer. This will impact if I have to install it any other customer.
Please advice if you have any ideas on implementing user exit like solution for an ABAP.
    Thanks,
    ABAP PM

hai , if u want others not to modify and specific to your customer then in attributes put editor lock so that no can edit it , and if u want user exit type u can create badis and attach at some places in ur code so that the other use can edit only at required places, else if ur customer has name space then he can create in that name space and if u dotn give licence to other no can edit or repiar ur program

  • A simple network setup solution for a home user!

Hi, I currently have a Power book PC g4 it has x2 external drives connected to it via time capsule and I have an old G4 clunky desktop downstairs that is connected via Ethernet but some previous owner must've doctored it because it can't run safari or itunes. I want to upgrade to an Imac and use my old powerbook PC g4 basically as a screen and keyboard downstairs to access my main new computer which is upstairs. I'm sick of duplicate files because the two computers currently are run as completely separate but on the same network!! I also have an iphone and itunes which I want to be able to sync and use from either computer so in other words I want all the same programs etc on each computer two screens two keyboards but ideally only one hard drive which is backed up by time capsule. How do I do this easily? Remote Desktop? Currently I have terrible time syncing and numerous software issues because I am trying to run the same software on each computer and they don't like it. I ought to have two licenses to do that but it is too expensive for the home user! I know I'm a bit stupid regarding these matters but geekology doesn't come naturally I'm sorry.

I want to upgrade to an Imac and use my old powerbook PC g4 basically as a screen and keyboard downstairs to access my main new computer which is upstairs.
Screen sharing lets you sort of do this, but don't expect it to be just like sitting in front of the remote computer. The connection will slow everything down and you won't get sound. Plus I'd be surprised if the PB had nearly as large a screen as any new iMac. This is not a realistic solution for day-to-day use.
I'm sick of duplicate files because the two computers currently are run as completely separate but on the same network!!
Sounds to me like you need to replace the old hardware with a new laptop rather than an iMac. Then you can take it everywhere and not have any sync issues.
I am trying to run the same software on each computer and they don't like it. I ought to have two licenses to do that but it is too expensive for the home user!
That's another reason to get a laptop... you could quit breaking the law and just install on one machine. Note, though, that if your software is as badly outdated as your hardware, it may not all work on the current version of the Mac OS (10.6.4, aka Snow Leopard). Check that before buying anything.

  • IWeb 1.1 SOLUTION FOR DOTMAC USERS???

Hi, here is a possible solution for people publishing to dotmac.
In iWeb, publish your site to a folder - save it somewhere on your system.
There should be TWO items: your "site" folder and an index.html file.
Navigate to your iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb and locate your site folder AND an index.html.
Make sure you are IN the iWeb folder.
REMOVE these TWO items (YOU CAN TRASH THEM, BUT BEST MOVE THEM SOMEWHERE SAFE). This may take some time - site size and internet speeds.
Now copy the two items: (your "site" folder and an index.html file) that you previously publishedto your system, INTO THE IWEB FOLDER ON YOUR IDISK. Once again this may take some time ("zo find zomething else to do...").
If you find that there is no iWeb folder on your iDisk, have another go at trying to publish from iWeb to your dotmac. When it fails there is a good chance that at least it will have got as far as creating it - NOW REPEAT ABOVE.
Hope this helps, it worked for me, see: Recordiauawen.com
    Good luck

I'm glad this is working for you. Can you tell us if
this method breaks any of the .Mac exclusive
features? Like search or counters, or password
    protection, maybe slideshow functionality? I'm
thinking that it might because you are publishing to
a folder first, so iWeb might not include those
    things tied in with .Mac.
    ==> www.DirtDoog.com <==</a>
Place A Virtual Pin On Putt-Putt's
    GuestMap!
I reckon that publishing this way should enable ALL of the features that you would normally expect on your site. The downside is that it can all take a long time to do, unlike publishing straight out of iWeb - therefore, try and make sure that you've DOUBLE CHECKED all your stuff, (links, spelling etc) otherwise changing one word etc, may take some time.
I must confess that I haven't implemented any of the new features included
with the 1.1 update - so I couldn't say as to wether these work or not.
It would appear that other people are having problems with these new features, these may be bugs or just more publishing issues.
Possibly, try to return your site to its pre 1.1 state and then try the 'solution'
For me at least it allowed me to reinstate the site after my first attempt to publish in 1.1 totally ruined it. (things all out of place etc etc.)

  • Make your own Fax Server with Automator! (Pagesender solution for Mavericks)

I have been scouring these discussion boards for some time now looking for a suitable substitute to PageSender, an awesome fax solution for the Mac from SmileOnMyMac LLC, which for some inexplicable reason stopped development and updates after OS 10.6.8. The result is that many small business office users who still rely on fax (and yes...no matter what they tell you, most of the business world DOES still use fax because it's legally binding and more secure than email for the transmission of legal documents or healthcare records, and does not rely on database integration accross different systems, which is sadly but very realistically still a long ways off), and no longer have a way to integrate faxes into a paperless or digital workflow office system.
I suspect like many folks who receive faxes, those who used PageSender, used a very powerful feature to forward faxes by email, thereby turning your Mac into a Fax server that could distribute your faxes to other workstations and staff throughout the business via email. Presumably, if you have your own email server (Exchange, Kerio, AppleMail server, PostFix enabler etc.) you could distribute faxes on your own internal network, securely behind a firewall, and effectively create a digitial/paperless workflow for your faxes.
Even if you have a USB modem or multifunction printer that allows you to recieve a Fax to your desktop (Apple's internal fax via printer preferences, and some HP models like the HP MFP 127fw) for example will allow you to recieve a Fax to a desktop folder or forward to a single email address. But the former is of limited functionaliy and the later only lets you send to an email address out over the internet with a registered public domain, which means you give up all control of privacy and means you can't process it through a private mail server to create a digital workflow for your office...
    ...Until now!!!
I am happy to report that I have finally discovered a very easy and useable feature that will save a lot of time, money, and headaches for those looking to create a digital workflow and fax server system for a small office system. (I don't think there is any limit to scale here, but I suspect offices with more than 10 employees probably have a BizHub, or HP MFP/digital sender that can create the same process directly from the printer, but of course these come with a price tag of $2000 and up...).
To accomplish this however, you will need some basic requirements which are as follows:
    1) A USB modem from either US Robotics or Zoom Modem. These are readily available from Amazon, MacMall or any number of other online vendors and work very well and seemlessly with all Macs running OSX right up through Mavericks
    OR
A Multifunction printer that is capable of receiving faxes to a desktop Mac like the HP 127 fw. Other models exist from other manufacturers as well, but you will have to do a bit of research and probably check with the vendor or user manual directly to confirm that Fax to desktop is supported for Mac and OS 10.9.
    2) A dedicated Mail Server (MSFT Exchange, Kerio, MacOSX server with mail server enabled, or PostFix enalber or MailServe from Cutedge Systems)
You will need to set up an email account on your server that is the parent for all incoming faxes from which the faxes will be sent out as part of your digital workflow. This is beyond the scope of this discussion but if you've come this far and you're still reading, you probably know  how to do this already. I recommend setting this up as a POP account, not IMAP. This way, the attatchments (your faxes) will always remain on your server as a back up, until you delete them from the server.
    3) Now simply go to System preferences and select "Printers and Scanners". Select either the Fax printer for your multifunction printer, or add a fax printer/reviever using the + button and select "Fax" if you are using a USB modem. You must have the USB modem attatched to the computer in order to use the built-in Apple Fax feature for the latter option.
    4) Now click on the receive options. Select "Recieve faxes to this computer" and set your ring answer settings. Check "Save to" and select the designated folder (either Faxes or Shared Faxes on your computer) or create a new folder. Depending on the volume of faxes, and your back up systems, you may want to designate a separate folder on a separate drive, exclusively for your Faxes. This is where all your faxes will be stored.
    5) Now launch "Automator" in your applications folder and create a new workflow. You will be presented with several options. Select "Folder Action".
    6) At the top right of the window space you will see "Folder Action receives files and folders added to" . Select the Fax folder you created in step 4.
7)On the left hand side of the "Actions" menu select "Mail"
    8) From the list of actions select "New Mail Message" this will take the latest Fax added to your Fax folder and attach it as a PDF to a new outgoing mail. In the "TO" address put the email address that belongs to the parent account your created for the Faxes on your mail server eg. [email protected].  In the subject field you can put "Fax Workflow" or any other generic subject that will identify to all reciptients that this is an email that contains a Fax/PDF attatchment.
Under "account" use the SMTP account you set up on your mail server to handle the routing of internal emails. In most cases, this will be the same as the parent account created above. (Effectively, this account is sending and receiving emails to itself).
    9) From the list of actions, select "Send outgoing messages".
    10) Save the Automator workflow with a name like "FaxDistribution" or "FaxFlow".
    11) Go back to the Fax folder you created in step 4. Right click or option click on the folder and scroll down the options menu and select "Folder Actions Setup". You will see a list of scripts including the Automator workflow you just created. Choose it.
That's it!! From now on, when you get a fax, it will get dumped into the designated fax folder, and this will automatically trigger the workflow to atttach and send it as an email to anyone in your office that is set up to receive emails with the "faxserver" address. You now have a paperless fax digital workflow server system for distributing your faxes digitally to anyone in your office who needs to review your faxes. Good luck!

Thank you for this interesting posting.

  • Online solution for Time Machine

I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for automatically backing up Time Machine files online.  The drive I use for my TM backups failed.  Even though my main Mac drive is fine and I can start a new TM archive, I've basically lost the time stamped backups of previous states which comes in handy once in awhile.  So it is necessary to have a backup of the backup which I could do with Raid 1 which I will probably now do.  But ideally it would be nice to backup the TM archive online.  I looked into doing this with CrashPlan but they don't want customers to backup the TM archive because of the file size due to redundancy so it doesn't seem like it would be easy to set it up automatically.  You would have to remember to every once in a while to copy the TM archive to your main drive.  I was hoping that it might be possible to do this with the iCloud drive but it really isn't set up for that.  I know that online backups are slow but once the online backup is seeded I wouldn't think it would be too much of a problem afterwards since TM is incremental and I wouldn't think it would be any slower than the regular incremental online backups for the main drive.

With Mavericks and later, multiple disks or multiple Time Capsule targets are supported for Time Machine, and the backups will alternate if both are present, or to whichever one is currently present (such as one at home & one at an office, for instance) if both targets are not present at the same time.  (There are wrinkles.)
Time Machine supports the ability to attach a disk and create a backup archive.
With directly-attached storage such as USB or Thunderbolt, RAID arrays will work just fine as Time Machine targets.
With an OS X Server system configured and running — a second Mac Mini, for instance — Time Machine can write to disks on that system, whether RAID or not.
For off-site backups, making a disk image copy of a Time Machine disk will work probably work, but'll be a pain to restore, and pulling data off of a Time Machine backup is going to be pretty slow due to its complex structure.  You'll usually end up transferring disks around as part of this, unless you have a very big network connection and enough storage (somewhere) to keep a couple of copies around.
Alternatively, use a different backup tool.
In general, RAID is not a backup.  User errors, nefarious deletions and ordinary data corruptions can clobber a Time Machine backup, even if the underlying storage hardware is working fine.
Podini has a whole pile of Time Machine information online.  Some of which is linked above.

  • IP mobility solution for a Data Centers

    Hello guys
    Please give me an advice.
Now I try to work out a networking solution for a two geo separated data centers (DCs).
Both the data centers will contain a virtualised server infrastructure (VMware).
Now the main design problem is to choose good solution for IP mobility and  for the DCs interconnect. We need to have an ability of moving a VM machines both for maintanance and for disaster recovery between the DCs. And users must seamlessly without any advanced knowledge about routing  be connected to the VM machines that were moved. For now the users work in 1100 different offices around the Ukraine country.
Yes I know a little about Cisco OTV, RHI and LISP solutions. But all this solutions require the top level switches and routers like Nexus 7000 and Cat 6500. And they are very costly.
Is there cheaper solution for the IP Mobility?
Maybe the NHRP protocol that is a part of the DMVPN could be a good solution?
Are there any features in NHRP or in other protocol for monitoring the health of a VM machine, customising and propagation the routing info in case of VM machine motion?
    Thank you for help.

    Hi Lavanya,
Required data from a legacy system(generate data only in the form of flat files)to SAP R3 as FB01 journals - use BDC for this thing because it will be better for large source files.
the output file should be generated periodically(daily, weekly, fortnightly etc…)  - if this output file contains acknowledgment for the data uploaded by the above process, create a ABAP report for it and schedule it..........but if this output contains some other IDOC data which you need to send as a file to a third-party system, then go for SAP XI provided the IDOC data is not too large... but if the IDOC size is huge, then just create a ABAP report for outputting data to a file on application server and FTP the file to third-party system.

Upgrading my work PC is NOT an option, but I'd like my Mac to be able to recognise the attachment for what it is
Let see, you are using a proprietary file format that is only supposed to work with Outlook. It doesn't work for millions of Windows or Mac or Linux email users that depend on other email programs like Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, webmail, etc.
Microsoft has had to publish instructions so that their program's users can make themselves compatible with the rest of the world.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290809
You are causing your own problem by not making a simple change in your program's options. Changes in the Outlook preferences can be made either Globally or by the Recipient.
Follow these steps in Outlook 2007 to turn off TNEF:
    1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
    2. Click the Mail Format tab.
    3. In the Compose in this message format box, click Plain Text or HTML, and then click OK.
Don't know of a better way to fix this problem for everyone concerned. Even if you get the fix to work with your machine, you will not enable all of the people receiving your emails to be able to work with you. That's a losing battle that's been caused by Microsoft.
Now if Microsoft created a Mail plugin for other email programs like they do for their video format's and services (flip4mac, Office Live Plugin, etc), then I would consider using their email program to deal with my clients. Until then, I need to be compatible with many different programs in other countries, on different platforms. Maybe that's going to change when they bring out the new Office 2011 with Outlook for the Mac...
