2012 processing very flat compared to 2010...

There are some differences in LR4 over LR3.5 or better said with 2010 processing against 2012 that I do not totally understand neither like.
For example, when import RAW files from the 5D MKIII they look totally diferent once loaded in LR than what they look on the Canon software or the JPgs out of the camera. They look very flat, like missing contrast.
shoud not Lightroom render the RAW images as similar as possible from what the camera or vendor render them with their software? if I select the 2010 processing, they look a lot more similar to what the Canon software renders and don't look flat at all.
Also, bright and contrast are gone, what is the equivalent of that now?
Thanks

There are 2 options
1. learn how to use the 2012 tools for your images
2. keep working with 2010 and miss out on so many powerful tools
3. aperture / bibble / ACDSEE / zonerStudio
I'm loving 2012, but it took about 200 photos from various scenarios to get my head around being able to set the shadows to more than +20 and not get noise like I would if I set the fill to more than +15.
The same applies for  boosting the whites and even lifting the blacks to +20 or more. Yes eventually you will get noise from pushing the blacks to more than +70 and the shadows the same, but hit auto, look at the photo and provided you have a well calibrated monitor, and time to experiment, you will learn to really work much faster with a more versatile tool.
Of course if you really don't want to use 2012 you can choose option 2, which is to not render the images in the 2012 calibration, but then you are missing out on a great tool.
Rob Cole has written reams and reams of posts about his experiences with  2012, he's had trite responses and unkind comments as he's documented his struggle with 2012. As you can see above, he's now a convert and loves it.
If you want to quickly learn to love 2012, push the clarity up to over 40, lift the blacks from wherever they are by 5-15 points and see the localised contrast just sing.
Its particually fabulous for male sports features - not so kind on female faces and skin.
Back to your comment about rendering images similar to the jpeg compressed and oversaturated oversharpened approximation of the photograph that you carefully composed. Nope, the jpeg is compressed, depending on your settings, over saturated and often over sharpened, its colour is often way off and a RAW image is largely a white canvas to work from.
Hit Auto tone and Auto White Balance and work from there. I find the Auto Tone can sometimes go crazy, other times its pretty close to where I want to be.
At the moment, I'm trying not to push the clarity above 15, but sometimes, it just has to be >40.
Play with it, dont consider that +20 shadows for one photo is the same as +20 for the next, cos its all relative - which is frustrating to begin with. However as photography is an art, nothing should be absolute.
It does take time, but like the models, its worth it

  • Should I See 2012 Process Image Quality Improvements?  Plus Minor Display Buglet.

Having played around with the Camera Raw 6.7 Release Candidate, and switching back and forth between the 2010 and 2012 processes (the latter only offering limited main panel adjustments), I'm left to wonder...
    Question:
I really didn't see any discernable differences in Image Quality between 2010 and 2012.
Should I have expected any?  If so, are there special places I should look?
Or is 2012 just all about control simplification, which doesn't apply to ACR 6.7?  Keep in mind I don't use LR so I don't know what that simplification might be; I'm just going on what I heard.
The CA correction improvements appear to apply equally to 2010 and 2012 processes.
    Buglet:
The one other thing I noted was that when you hover over the little warning icon on the image it puts up the message "Update to Current Process (2010)", which is a bit wrong given that it's actually a downdate to an older process.  Maybe the wording should be different if it's the 2012 process?  Something like "Change to Process (2010)"?

Robin, Adobe adds functionality to Camera Raw in each new major Photoshop release.  PV2012 is likely going to be touted as a new Photoshop CS6 feature.
I'm sure their Marketeers believe that if the team made Process 2012 fully available and controllable in Camera Raw 6 for Photoshop CS5 that some people would avoid buying Photoshop CS6.
On the other hand, they couldn't very well just leave the new release of Lightroom completely incompatible with the latest version of Photoshop...
What they've done makes them compatible because if you set a bunch of controls in Lightroom, then try to open the image in Photoshop CS5, you'll find that it will generate the same result.  If they didn't add at least this much PV2012 support then they'd be getting bona fide complaints from Lightroom users that the new version isn't compatible with any version of Photoshop - which I guess is a major selling feature.
Seems more easily solved by just waiting until Photoshop CS6 is released, but I suppose this decouples the two just enough, and allows Adobe not to miss out on all the Lightroom sales.
A parting observation:  Camera Raw 6.7 isn't actually released, so the majority of Photoshop users know nothing about it whatsoever.  But a Lightroom user has the option of upgrading to 6.7 RC to solve his "incompatibility" problem.  I wonder if Camera Raw 6.7 is actually going to release before Photoshop CS6...

    Problem description:
MacBook Pro mid-2012 - installed Yosemite, and the system now crawls. Webpages have very delayed responses, can take 30+ seconds to react to typing or selection. I turned off FileVault, that did not appear to help. Emptied the trash, removed some obsolete fonts. Any help for what else to try would be much appreciated.

  • 2012 Process Version Alters Exposure/Contrast/Tone Curve

In working with the LR4 beta, I've come across a couple odd results.  I imported some image folders containing raw, tiff and jpeg.  The images were updated to the 2012 Process Version on import.  I noticed that I had not saved out the metadata on the raw files for earlier edits in LR3.  I closed LR4, opened LR3, saved out the metadata, reopened LR4, read the metadata from the files and this, unsurprisingly, reverted them back to the 2010 Process Version.  When I update the raw images to the 2012 Process Version, the Exposure is reduced by 1 stop and Contrast is set to -33.  Additionally, a significant Tone Curve adjustment is made.  No such alterations occur to tiff or jpeg files in toggling back and forth between 2010 and 2012.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

Eric, I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if they aren't going to 'look' the same then why would that be.  Further, if no changes to the file were made (i.e., exposure, recovery, curves, etc) then why would there be such a radical change to the image on updating to a new process version?
As I noted earlier, I don't recall that updating to the 2010PV from the prior made such a change to images.  In fact I just tried it.  I switched back to 2003, then to 2010 then to 2012.  No change to the image going from 2003 to 2010.  Big change going from either 2003 to 2012 or 2010 to 2012.  To my way of thinking, if I take an image processed with the 2010PV and am happy with the way it looks (it's displayed on my website, I've printed and sold it, etc.) then I update to the 2012 PV I shouldn't have to re-edit the image to get the same 'look'.  I understand that due to the different controls some of the positions of the sliders may be different.  But the two images shouldn't 'look' different.  Take another example.  If I've got a set of images from a commercial shoot, have edited them in LR and provided to the client, then I update those images to the 2012PV in LR 4 and the resulting images aren't the same, I've got to spend time (and money) re-editing to get back to what I had before.  Does that seem right?  It sure doesn't to me.  It seems, actually, the exact opposite of what should be.
In the screen grabs above, this is a marked change to the image.  It's categorically not just a difference in slider/control positions to get the same 'look'.  It's a completely different image with a completely different look.  The file has been radically altered.  To me, that shouldn't be the case.
EDIT:  I guess we were posting at the same time, Eric.  Sorry, I understand the explanation but it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

  • Very Slow compared to Lightroom 3

I love the updated, but it runs unbareably slow. Is anybody having the same problem? Working with the healing brush takes about two seconds each stroke.

This speed issue has some really weird aspects.  I have been using two different machines with the same database.  My workstation machine is a core i7, 12 Gb ram, quadro 1800 graphics, LR code on SSD system drive, images and LR databases on 1.5 T raid 0, 2 24" 1920X1200 screens.  It runs LR3 like a hot knife through butter.  The second is a Toshiba Portege R705-P35.  This is a notebook with a Core i3 and 4 Gb of ram, no special video hardware.  It runs LR3 competently, but not like the workstation.  Both are running Win 7 64.  Home premium on the notebook, ultimate on the workstation.  Both are up to date.
I started with LR4 on the notebook with 350 images straight off the CF card (CR2s from Canon 50D).  Everything seemed to be OK.  I got home for the weekend and fired up the workstation. I saved all the metadata for about 5500 images to xmp using LR 3.6 then imported the files into LR4.  That seemed to work.  Keywords and develop settings seemed to be OK.  Virtual copies and collections were of course gone as expected.  Performance in the develop module was awful and only got worse.  It took seconds to respond to sliders.  At one point it seemed to crash every time I tried to change the crop on a virtual copy.  (the crop change seemed to make it to the LR database but not to the screen.  It was there when I restarted LR4!).  I loaded the small database from the notebook into the workstation.  It ran just as badly.  I tried to replicate the crash scenario the next morning.  No luck, so I can't give you a nice repeatable scenario.  Turning graphics accelleration off in LR did not seem to make a difference.
I logged onto the forum.  I am obviously not the only one having trouble with LR4 on a serious workstation.  I powered off my second screen.  That made a huge performance difference.  The workstation was now only slightly slower than the notebook, but the sliders were still jerky.  I did manage to use the new soft proof feature and make some prints.  The behavior of the 2012 process looks very promising!
I copied the 5500 images and LR databases from the workstation onto an esata external drive.  The notebook appears to be able to run it from the esata drive with no real problems.  The 2012 process is sometimes a bit sluggish, but generally not bad.  I have deliberately tried to stress it with local adjustments, sharpening, lens profile corrections, etc.
I have no explanations for this behavior and unfortunately will not be home to run more experiments with the workstation for at least a few days.

  • Windows 2012 to Windows 2012 R2 Inplace with Sharepoint Foundation 2010 SP2 (4.0.7116.5000)

I found than Inplace update from 2012 to 2012 R2 are supported. I also found 2012 R2 will support SharePoint Foudation 2010 with SP2 (4.0.7116.5000).
But I cannot find if we perform an Inplace update from a Windows 2012 Server running SharePoint 2010 (Sp2) to R2 will be successful.
    As anyone done that?
    Thanks.
    Real
    Réal Doré

    Hi ,
On Windows Server 2012 R2, Microsoft supports only the SharePoint Server 2010 SP2 slipstream media configuration and not the RTM version of that configuration. For full SharePoint functionality and support, you must have the February 2014 cumulative update
(CU) or a later CU installed.
Additionally, only a new SharePoint Server 2010 SP2 slipstream installation that has the February 2014 CU or a later CU installed is supported on Windows Server 2012 R2. Microsoft
does not support a Windows in-place upgrade for this scenario.
For your scenario, I suggest you create a new SharePoint Foundation 2010 with SP2 on Windows Server 2012 R2, then migrate the content to new SharePoint 2010.
More information, please refer to the link:

When converting an image from raw to jpeg , the jpeg can look flat compared to the original raw image . Is there any way to prevent this ?

Hi Joe , Thank you for your quick response . I am viewing the jpeg in Microsoft Picture Manager and Flickr. It 's not always really noticeable , but for example if I shoot into the light with dew on the grass , the dew glistens in LRoom and I'm happy with the shot but when I convert it to jpeg ,it looks dull. I have changed the setting to sRGB - from Adobe 1998 ,but don't see much difference.  Kind regards   Alberto.

  • TCODE: ME2N is processing very slow

Hi, we have an issue with tcode: ME2N processing very slow. This tcode
was working fast when we went live with SAP. Recently we have noticed
slowness. When users run MEN2N with purchase group 124 to pull PO's, it
takes for ever. I researched and coulnd't find anything specific on
    this. Please advise.

    Hi,
While the end user executing the t-code put a trace against that process id.
In that trace u can definitely find the error.
For example how much time it will take to fetch the data and insert like that,
probably u have to create a secondary index for that particular table or else it is going somewhere in the loop  of a program which it is internally using.
Do these things may be u r problem will be solved.
    Regards,
    Anil

  • How can I stop the program from going through all of the text previously put in.  It is making the process very slow.

How can I stop the program from going through all of the text previously put in.  It is making the process very slow.

    while True:
and just indent everything else under it
    Ends when you press ^C.
if you wish to have a way to break out of the loop, say, when you press enter at the VPC number without entering anything, add the following after your vpc input:
    if not vpc:
    break
which will break out of the while loop and end your program.

  • AC3 audio is VERY low compared to apples menu presets

AC3 audio is VERY low compared to apples menu presets,
The original aiff files are at a good level, concert footage professionally recorded, nothing peaking, nothing too low.
THe AC3 is at minus 10DB on the vu meter, the aiff peaks at 100.
The apple menu music, which are .mov files, peek at plus 1-2.
My old version of compressor did not do this.
I do not have enough room on my disk for all AIFF but I do want to use the Apple Menus and provided music.
    Any thoughts?

You can increase the Ac 3 "reference level" to 0 dB (it should be -27 dB)
Reference level? There is no such thing - I believe you are referring to Dialog Normalization, and it is extremely unwise to set this to zero... it is most certainly not a good way of increasing the overall volume of the file. -27 happens to be the application's default value, but it in no way means it should be set to -27. There are a few factors you need to consider when using AC3 encoding...
The DNV setting is the amount of attenuation that the file will get, according to a formula:
    attenuation = 31 + DNV setting
Therefore if you set the DNV to be 0 you will alter all AC3 streams by 31 Db, which is enough to make it unplayable without serious distortion:
    0 = 31 + (-31)
If you want to get the exact same audio levels out of A.Pack (or Compressor 2, if you are using that) then your DNV setting should be set to -31. This means there is absolutely NO attenuation to the file, meaning you get the same levels out as went in...
What I recommend here is to edit the audio in an application such as Peak and get it sounding exactly as you want it. When you encode to AC3 set the DNV to -31 and set the compression to 'none' (not film standard or anything else, there's nothing worse than badly applied compression). These settings then give you a basic output which is nearer to what you start off with. The other setting much talked about is RF Overmodulation protection. This is useful to turn on if you think the player will be sending the output signal to an RF input on a TV rather than through scart or something else. It certainly used to be the case that such signals were boosted by 11db, causing overmodulation. The setting is a way of preventing that hapening, but as more and more folk have stopped using RF as an input it makes sense to turn it off. If in doubt, turn it on, but listen to the output file and see if it is acceptible.
As for the basic bitrate, for a stereo file, lower it to no less than 192kbps.
Now, if you want to run a few tests, then keep all the settings above and encode the same 10 second piece of audio. Change the DNV to -31, then -20, then -8 and then 0 and play the resulting files back and listen to what happens each time.
Head over to http://www.macprovideo.com and download some of the tutorials there for A.Pack. They have been created by Martin Sitter (who has helped and guided me more than once) and will give you a far better understanding of AC3 encoding than anything else I can think of. You will pay for them, but it is a wise investment if you are at all unsure of how to get the best audio onto your discs. Let's face it, audio accounts for at least 2/3rds of the experience when watching TV - it is as well to get it right.
