  • Client apps accessing WL 6 services

    Hi All
This is an addendum to the question I posted :
Subject: External clients accessing WL(4.5.1 SP13) JNDI
    Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 14:07:38 -0500
(BTW, I heard from only one person till now).
I would repeat the question. We all have clients (applications) which
would want to make use of our services (beans, etc). How are they able
to access the Weblogic server's JNDI space?
Only by having WLInitialCtxFactory and other related classes in their
    classpath??
If that IS the case, isnt it defeating the purpose of using JNDI. Where
is the transparency of location here. Looks like I still need to bundle
Weblogic server classes to my clients (how many ever they may be).
Support says there was no other way in WL 4.5.1. Is it any different in
    WL 6?
If there is another way people are dealing with this situation, I would
be grateful if you can reply to this post.
    Thanks
    Madhu
(PS Weblogic engineers, please respond to this)

    Hi
I wish there was a way that one could access using ANY JNDI implementation
PROVIDED the credentials could be verified within the Weblogic security
    realm.
Then I could ask the client to use SUN/Netscape or any other vendor's
implementation and give the client a generic guest kind of credentials.
What would be the issues involved if this were to happen?
In our situation, the client might be another team hosting their own
applications on Websphere or SilverStream and I cannot ask them to load up
WL classes too. You know how it works.
    Thanks
    Madhu

    Hi,
for WL5.1 there is a fourth approach which needs careful investigation
to work properly but which is successfully used with Java Webstart
within our development team. I guess this will work for WL6.0 in a
similar manner. We use java -verbose and utils.verboseToZip to extract
only the classes needed into one wl specific jar. The advantage is that
there is an overal jar of about 2MB, so it's realistic to distribute
from ISDN connections onwards. The disadvantage is that you need to
follow every code line of your application very carefully - especially
error situations - to get all the necessary classes.

Conversation: Client apps accessing WL 6 services
Subject: Re: Client apps accessing WL 6 services
Yes, dealing with the same problem.
At the moment we think that there are three strategies:
    1. Deploy all WL classes on the client (weblogicaux, current
    servicepack-jar
and a jar containing the complete classes directory). This takes about
    20
MB. Since we will use Java Web Start for deploying our applications we
install this 'weblogic bundle' along with the installation of JWS. From
    then
on, only the servicepack jar (~2 MB) will be updated on the server and
therefore downloaded by JWS to the client. It's not an ideal situation
    but
it allows 'quick and easy' developing
    2. A second approach is to develop applets and use the plugin to execute
them on the client. The plugin allows single class loading (JWS only
    loads
jars!) and requests for a class only when it is needed. This way you
    don't
need 20 MB of jars on the client but still many weblogic classes are
    loaded.
(And aren't we tempted to use Java Web Start instead of applets embedded
    in
    a browser!)
    3. The third approach we are currently looking into is develop an
application totally independent of Weblogic (Thus, no
    WLInitialCtxFactory).
Disadvantages are that you can't use some of the benefits of WL (like
optimized t3 connections and maybe easier developing). Advantage however
    is
that our applications are independent of the type of application server.
Briefly this is where we are now. We were also a little discouraged
    while
browsing the newsgroups and noticing that this seems to be an issue for
    many
    developers.
    Maybe someday...

  • Why are the options for "When Firefox starts" NOT clickable in Firefox 5? I want to choose "Windows and tabs that where opened last time you accessed the net" but Firefox won't let me.

In the previous version of Firefox one could choose to save tabs so that when Firefox opened, all the tabs from the previous sessions appeared. This was done in Settings > Options > General > Startup. In the menu for the "When Firefox Starts" one had the option for "Windows and tabs that where opened last time you accessed the net." in Firefox 5.0, this menu is gray and not clickable. Help, please?

''Why are the options for "When Firefox starts" NOT clickable in Firefox 5?"
Possibly you are not saving your "browsing history" which is what the session history is tied into.
'''Not saving History''' -- check your settings for '''Tools > options > Privacy'''', make sure you are not clearing more than just cache in "Settings for Clearing History"
    * http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4928/clearcachew.png
    * clearing your history at end of session, cache is the only one you would want to clear at end of session, if you don't want to lose things
There are several things that are related to private browsing and not saving History
    * Private Browsing Ctrl+Shift+P
    * You selected "Never remember history" in first drop-down of Tools > Options Privacy and all of the check marks disappear (See picture above)
    * "Permanent private browsing mode" was check-marked under "Use custom settings for history" in the first drop-down of Tools > options > Privacy (see picture above)

  • Problem with multiple instances of shared printers being installed on client computers when the spooler service is started

    Hello,
We have Windows Server 2012 and clients using Windows 8.  We've been having some printer problems for awhile now that I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me.  The main problem is the fact that printers are installed on computers automatically
once the drivers are installed.  The side-effect of multiple instances of each printer showing up is very annoying but I suspect fixing the initial problem will resolve this secondary one.
    Here is the rundown:
We add the shared printers on logon to the clients using the GPO thus installing the drivers locally.
Whenever the spooler on the client is restarted with the drivers installed, all of the
shared printers that were previously installed get duplicated 5 more times (for a total of 6 instances of each shared printer) on the "Devices and Printers" page.  This happens
    all the time.
Removing them only fixes the issue temporarily, as soon as the spooler or computer is restarted, it seems these shared printers are somehow found on the network and the duplicates return.
Two of these printers are located on different clients, installed locally and shared while the other three are all installed on a server and shared through it.  The issue is the same on all of them.
Cleaning the spooler completely (registry and files from C:\system32\spool) fixes the issue temporarily as well since, as soon as the drivers are reinstalled, the issue occurs again.
I've tried many things (disabling the GPO, editing the GPO, printer shares, registry, etc.) and searched tirelessly online for a cause and solution but I'm stumped.  Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this problem and how to resolve it?
    Thanks for your time!
Update #1: I just tried adding the NoNetCrawling option in the registry found in this article -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320138/en-us
I couldn't find the same for Windows 8 unfortunately.  I also tried disabling network discovery and all other sharing options to no avail.
Update #2: I tried isolating the computer to a different subnet and restarting the spooler and, sure enough, the issue didn't occur.  This proves that the issue is network share related.  Also, as soon as I change the IP back to the regular domain
subnet one, the multiple printer instances re-appeared again.
Update #3: I just tried doing the same thing but on the server where the printers are installed and shared and, sure enough, despite being in a different subnet, the issue occurred.  This leads me to believe there is a setting on this server at fault.
     Question is, which one?

We have deployed a brand new Active Directory domain for a customer. ALL the servers without exception are Windows 2012 R2 and all clients are Windows 8.1 32bit VDI clients.
The issue that we have is around network printers.
We are deploying 4 printers  from a Windows 2012 R2 Server via the print management/Deploy Printer and assigning that to a GPO. The printers are deployed to the Computers which should mean that the users get all 4 printers which they then should be allowed
to set their default and personal settings for that printer.
Our printers are deployed like this:
    1. Created security group
    2. Assigned VDI computers to the security group
    3. Created GPO to reflect security group
    4. Modify GPO to do security filtering based on computer group membership
    5. Deployed 4 x printers through Print Management to the GPO on a per machine basis
However, on the users Devices and Printers screen we are not seeing the 4 printers. For some users
they see duplicates of all 4 printers so e.g they can have upwards of 8 or more. Other users have no printers displayed whatsoever. The next time they log off or restart they then have a different amount of printers displayed.
If they try and set the default then it will set and the next time they check the default may have moved to another printer even without logging off or back on.
Now, where this gets strange is within an application such as MS Word 2013 or Notepad if they use the file and print menu the printers will be listed, even if the user has no printers displayed in Devices and Printers. If the users selects a printer then they
    can then print OK.
If we check HKCU\Printers||Connections then the CORRECT 4 printers are showing as to what is being deployed via the GPO so I know that the Windows 8.1 terminals are receiving the correct printers from the GPO.
To try and correct this over the course of the week we have deployed the printers via Group Policy Preferences to the user and then the PC to no avail. Currently we are using the Print management\Deployed Printers to deploy all 4 printers to the computer via
    the Computer GPO.
I believe that this issue is related to the display somehow in Devices and Printers rather than a GPO or print server issue as we can see via the registry the clients are receiving the 4 correct mentioned printers as shown in the registry.
FYI: We only have around 30 users and all users are getting this problem. All users are receiving the same GPO's and have the same few apps installed, Office 2013, Adobe Reader etc.
What we want is for the computers to receive all 4 printers. All users should be able to use all 4 printers but the user should be able to select their particular default, depending where they are located or what they are printing that particular day. Their
particular default should persist after reboot. (We have 2 x Copiers and 2 x HP Laserjets) All users have redirected documents and desktop but the rest of the profile is on the VDI and persists after their reboot. The profile is not roaming as the user is
    assigned a particular VDI.
After a week of scratching our heads with this we are open to suggestions and any would be appreciated.
We have tried following the issues on this thread to no avail either as they still return.

  • How client application contacts the EJB?

    Hi,
I have a doubt. I am wondering how the client application contacts an EJB. Consider the following scenario.
I have my web server and the application server located in two different locations, meaning two different machines.
My web components are deployed onto the web server and my enterprise components are deployed onto the application server. In this case how the client application will know how to locate an EJB that is running on a different machine. In the client application we only call lookup method of the JNDI. But my doubt is just with the lookup name how it would be possible to locate an EJB. We are not giving any IP address or port or anything in our client application or may be we should...
Is there anyone who can clarify please?
    Thanks in advance
    Karthik

    Hi
This is what I wanted to know...
If you need to access EJB components that are residing in a remote system other than the system where the application client is being developed, set the values for the Java Virtual Machine startup options:
    jvmarg value = "-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=${ORBhost}"
    jvmarg value = "-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=${ORBport}"
Here ORBhost is the Application Server hostname and ORBport is the ORB port number (default 3700).
This information can be obtained from the domain.xml file on the remote system. For more information on domain.xml file, see the Sun Java System Application Server Reference.
The link you provided was more than enough to clarify...
    Thanks,
    Karthik

  • How do I configure snow leopard server to allow local client to access the server using its public domain name

I have SLS 10.6 running on my local network with DNS configured.
I can access the server from a client on the lan using server.local or server.domain  where domain name is my publically registered domain,
From the internet I can access my server using the registered domain name i.e. www.domain.com.
Is it possible to set my server up so that www.domain.com  also reaches the server when used by a client locally?   At present I get a page not found error.

The configuration you're aiming for is called split-horizon or split-brain DNS, and it's quite possible.  It can get slightly hairy when you have different stuff using the same host name for different purposes, for instance, and you'll need to track all external DNS entries in your internal DNS server when you're running "split".
Here is how to set up DNS services.   Split-horizon is one of the options listed there.
My preference is to use a different domain or subdomain within the network, and to avoid using split-horizon where I can reasonably manage it.  One domain name is configured for and reachable outside and is effectively public, and the other domain (or a subdomain) is inside and private and only reachable directly or via VPN, for instance.

    Hi Amit
We also have this issue with weblogic webservices. Did you get any resolution for this issue.
When the service is executed for lesser number of hits, all the responses are processed properly. But as load (Number of hits for the same service) increases, few responses are failed to be parsed in the web service client. We could confirm that the producer responds with proper content type (text/xml)
Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can an EJB client application access to EJBs on two domains concurrently?

It is well-known that there can be multiple domains in a SUN application server. If two domains are started up, can the same EJB client application call different EJB methods from the two domains? If can, how to implement? Please kindly give a snippet of sample codes.
Another question: can EJBs among multiple domains communicate with each other? If can, tell me how to implement and had better provide some sample codes as well.

I have my client working now!
I was looking around on other forums and found a guy who said that javax.comm has problems with security. here is the address
    http://lists.dalsemi.com/maillists/java-powered-ibutton/2002-February/002168.html
    He said,
"This is an error generated by the javax.comm packages when initializing
    the
serial ports. It's basically a security related bug. Officially, all
packages stored in your lib/ext folder should be considered trusted
    code,
running with the same permissions as your trusted main application. But
    it
seems that isn't the case with comm.jar.
I've heard that signing the comm.jar file might fix it, but I wasn't
    able to
verify that myself (but I didn't test with Netscape's java plugin). I
    found
a workaround that should take care of it (as long as your main
    application
has "all-permissions"). Try adding this line to the top of your main
    method:
    System.setSecurityManager(null);
So I did that and it worked except for one thing. at the end of my program the client tells me
The system cannot find the path specified.
Do you think this is a major problem? What is it trying to find??

    1. Install Oracle 11.2 database RAC with two servers.

Can i share the file between all four servers means all the 4 servers can read/write on it ??? Or it will accessed only by Database servers ??
    Regards,
    Sumit

From the PL/SQL Packages and Types Ref Guide:
The set of files and directories that are accessible to the user through UTL_FILE is controlled by a number of factors and database parameters. Foremost of these is the set of directory objects that have been granted to the user. Assuming the user has both READ and WRITE access to the directory object USER_DIR, the user can open a file located in the operating system directory described by USER_DIR, but not in subdirectories or parent directories of this directory.
Lastly, the client (text I/O) and server implementations are subject to operating system file permission checking.
UTL_FILE provides file access both on the client side and on the server side. When run on the server, UTL_FILE provides access to all operating system files that are accessible from the server. On the client side, as in the case for Forms applications, UTL_FILE provides access to operating system files that are accessible from the client.
Also, from Support note 948187.1 "ACFS is a fully-POSIX compliant filesystem, and can be accessed through native OS filesystem tools and APIs. Additionally, ACFS can also be exported and accessed by remote clients via standard NAS File Access Protocols such as NFS and CIFS."

at each time: if you need to authenticate yourself (no matter wether you are a

managed by TrustManager. On the other hand, you just do same but
indicating your file is shall be managed by a KeyManager.
