Q:<WWSD-7> Could we deploy the SOAP package not using the ear, instead could we
put all the related Java code to jar file and the rest of the code to the war
files? The reason I asked is because we do not deploy our applciation in ear format.
A:<WWSD-7> EAR files are general packaging structures that can contain war, EJB
jar, rar and regular jar files. The wsgen task provided expects an output file
to be an ear file. If you are going to utilize another format you will be resonpsible
for building the appropriate web application components. It can be done but you
will have to do more work and not use the provided wsgen task. As far as web services
in general are concerned, the actual business processing can be done by any component
just as long as there is a servlet that understands the SOAP requests and responses.
It is BEA expectation that EJBs are supposed to be you core business components
so these will be the operations most likely to be exposed as web srevices.

applications/modules can be developed to access a database, which can then be exposed as a WebService. So I guess the answer is yes. If you use a mapping framework, abstract it with EJB, or use DAO/JDBC and stick to a SQL command set common to all the databases you want to use, it could also be portable.
Example of a Web Service for JBoss? -- see jboss.org I'd expect.
The Oracle Database Web Service chapter in the Web Services documentation provides a good insight into some of the capabilities we have with Oracle Application Server to talk directly to an Oracle database.

There are 2 ways you can do this :-
If your sender is a file and receiver is a webservice and you want to map the response back to the file then :-
Sol 1 :- Async-Sync Bridge using RequesResponse Oneway bean
Sender File channel ---> Soap Receiver Channel
Soap Receiver Channel brings the response back to the File Receiver Channel.
Now this File Receiver Channel should be called inside the Sender File Channel using the above bean.
Data Type :
Src - File struc to SOAP request (WSDL used as an external definition)(mapping 1)
SOAP response(WSDL used as an external definition) to Tgt File Struc (mapping 2)
Sol 2 :- Async Scenario
Make a Sender File Channel --> use SOAP lookup channel (pass the request payload through the SOAP receiver channel) --> Map the response back to the File using File Receiver Channel.
Data Type:
Src - File struc to Tgt File Struc (mapping 1). Since you are passing the request payload through SOAP lookup in the UDF itself.

Im trying to invoke a service on a server other than the local bpel server thats installed by default. Any pointers to how this can be achieved? My jedevelper does not show "Bpel process Manager server" under the connections navigator and hence I cannot create a new connection to a different server(other than the default one). Appreciate yr help.

If you only want to just invoke the service, you dont need a new connection.
Cant you just point to the wsdl of the service in the partnerlink ?
If you need a new connection in jdeveloper to the other server, you first need to make the new applicationserver connection and after that the integrationserver connection.
After this you can connect to an other bpelserver, besides the default.

There is a standard column in UWL with name 'Sent Date'. Other functionalities in UWL for example deadline monitoring (Due date column) are based on this sent date. This shows an employee what was the date workitem was created (sent date) and when it will get escalated (due date). Displaying forwarding date in Sent date will not give clear picture to employee as the deadline will be calculated based on sent date only not based on forwarding date. this was just an example.
even though if your client is insisting, i dont think it can be done without any enhancement in UWL web dynpro com sort of thing. you can check with your portal consultant too.

Web Services with PL/SQL -- Where to get files

The document on how to make web services for PL/SQL stored procedures references serice-config.xml and client-config.xml, but neither of these files are in the links references by the document.
Where do I find those files?

The service-config.xml and client-config.xml are config files used by the Webservices assembler, which generates webservices from PL/SQL. JPublisher is used under the hood.
However, the 10.1.3 assembler may run without service-config.xml and client-config.xml. If you can run the build.xml file for the demo, then you are fine.

Web service fails when waiting longer than a minute

I have a web service which talks to asp.net webservice (website) . Everything works fine when data received is less. but when data is more which takes more than a minute to receive responce from server as3 throws fault code error (decoding error) . Is there any way in which I can ask the calling webservice to wait till it receives data.
This happens only on frist request as IIS is slow in first responce . 2ND REQUEST do not have this problem as IIS caches the webservice and responce is fast.

Unfortunately not.
SOAP with attachments (of any kind) is only supported with NetWeaver application server 6.4 WITH JavaStack. The ABAP version only supports SOAP without attachments.
We solved this issue for outgoing files using an IDOC type which we send through an RFC destination to a URL on a webserver outside SAP which accepts a file as parameter.
