29Gig of photos on drive, but only 1.8G in Iphoto - where are they?

Hello all - I found that my drive was nearly full, and had to make some room, so I found many pics which I no longer needed, and thus deleted them, however I found this barely touched what the profiler says I have for photos/video on my drive. It says I have almost 30Gig, but iPhoto says I have just 1.8 in that program. Where else could they be?
Thanks

Hello Larry
I see it is 9.5.1. When I deleted the few I had I just right clicked and put them in the trash, or highlighted and hit "delete". However, the few dozen I deleted in no way approaches almost 27Gig of photo/video which is showing up when I go to "About this Mac" and clcik on "more info". I think the 27Gig is somewhere other than in IPhoto, or could it possibly be that all the thousands of photos I have deleted I did the wrong way, thus are still on my drive somewhere?
Thanks

Once my pictures are imported by iPhoto, where are they on my hard-drive?

    You don't go that way.
iPhoto is a database, and you need to use the tools provided to access the data:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

lost my iphone and can't find photos and videos from camera roll on my computer. where are they?
    thanks

    Where did you put them?
These are not part of the sync process at all, as the manual tells you.  You should be importing them to your comptuer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

  • My older photos are gone from iPhoto, where are they?

I can't see any of my older photos from years past.  As I have upgraded iPhoto they have dissappeared.  The preferences says that I can only see the last 18 months.  Where did my photos go?

Which version of iPhoto and which version of OS X are you on?
Do you have multiple iPhoto Libraries?
Have you tried holding command and option down on the keyboard while opening iPhoto, then choosing Repair Database and clicking Repair?

  • My photos dissapear when i update to iOS 5. Where are they?

    Where is My photos ?

I had they same problem, but with my iPad. Howeve, I think that most of us have upgraded to 5.0.1 with the patch file, which made us all have a worse battery drainage. I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO FIX IT
RESTORE THE WHOLE 5.0.1  firmware TOGETHER  the 700+ MB.  You will notice the major battery improvement.
Remember to mark me with the correct answer... :)

  • All of my photos are gone off my iphoto, where are they?

All of my photos, events, everything is missing off my iphoto. Where has everything gone?

Gee. I have no idea. What version of iPhoto and of the OS do you have? What recently changed? What do you see? What error messages do you get? What else can you tell a total stranger that might help them assist you
And you really need to purchase an external hard drive at least 2 1/2 times as large as your hard drive and start using Time Machine or another backup program of your choice. With no backup you will lose all of your files and photos sooner or later

  • What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or partitioning?

What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or is there some way to partition? I tried doing so but received a message that there wasn't enough free space to partition. Seems like a 1TB drive should have more storage than my Ipad

Its worth confirming what free space you have on your drive:
go to:   Apple Menu > About this Mac >  More Info > Storage
The bar chart shows how much free space there is on the drive:
Please realise that partitioning does not create extra space so this wont help you.
If your free space is less than 20 % you should get extra storage with an external USB or Firewire drive, any make or model will work.

  • TS3989 Photo Stream has 500+ photos on computer but only 11 come up on Apple TV

Photo Stream has 500+ photos on computer but only 11 come up on Apple TV

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.

  • I prefer to arrange my photos by title but when I shut down Iphoto, my photos rearrange by date.  This is not acceptable for my growing library of snanned black and white ancestral photos. How do I get photos in events to stay in place ?

I prefer to arrange my photos by title but when I shut down Iphoto, my photos rearrange by date.  This is not acceptable for my growing library of snanned black and white ancestral photos. How do I get photos in events to stay in place ?

I actually am illiterate on the use of the finder to to view photos in folders.  I guess I will go to a class at the local Apple store for a lesson on the uses of finder .
My method of viewing my photos are through events in I photo.
    1. Download  from camera or scan  in from old photos.
2  I organize photos into events by occasion, or happenings in a certain year, or a group of photos with memorabilia of a certain person from childhood and on. etc.
    3.  Because Iphoto does not allow rearranging as I was able to do in my old PC with Corell,  I drag all of the photos to an " album" on the left side of sceen.
    4.  I arrange photos in "order" after which I number each photo in sequence. I do this for a few of reasons.
              - if a photo is accidentally deleted I know it.  I can usually remedy this by checking my trash or
    rescanning.
              - I can sort by title without complications and this holds in "album"
    5.  The pictures will re arrange automatially to match the album in I photo.
    6.  This worked great in I-photo 09 but now in mountain lion the pictures in events go back to "
sort by date" and will not hold "sort to Title"each time I photo is closed down.  What a nuicance it is to have to go  to view and click "title"  again and again every time Iphoto is opened.
    7. Can I go back to Photo 09? .

  • HT5070 I purchased an entire season of a TV show, but only 6 out of 7 episodes are listed

I purchased an entire season of a TV show, but only six out of 7 episodes are listed in my library.  When I return to the store, episodes 1-6 are noted as available to download, and episode 7 is listed as available to buy for 2.99.  When I select buy, the store returns the message that I have already purchased that episode.  That is true, so why is it not listed in the cloud as available to download, and/or available to view on my Apple TV list for Season 1?

    Hello CBWnc,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
If the emailed receipt shows you purchased a season of shows with Complete My Season but one of the episodes is problematic.
I would try signing out of the iTunes store from the Store menu in iTunes, then restart the computer and sign back in.
To sign in to or out of the iTunes Store:
In iTunes, choose Store > Sign In (or Sign Out).
From: iTunes 10 for Windows: Sign in or out of the iTunes Store
              http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1640
If you do not see the Menu bar and as such, cannot click Store, you may need to enable the menu bar.
iTunes: Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7

If the issue persists, then I would reach out to the iTunes Store support directly about your purchase:

I can't find my pictures on icloud where are they?? i have photo stream on but I can't find icloud on my computer to make sure it is on! It isn't listed under the network and internet like the "help" option said!

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • I want to be able to access my photos that are stored on iCloud – I see mail and contacts but not my pictures?   I have been backing up for a long time -  Where are they?

I want to be able to access my photos that are stored on iCloud
    – I see mail and contacts but not my pictures?
I have been backing up for a long
    time -  Where are they?

You can't view them on iCloud.com.  And photos (and other data) stored in your device backup can't be viewed, other than by restoring the backup to your device.
If you want to view your photos on the web, for the time being you will have to add them to a shared stream (album) with the Public Website option enabled.  This will give you a private url to view them from a browser.

  • HT1229 Tried moving my library to an external hard drive and now when I open iPhoto, there are no pictures there!!!!

I am using iPhoto '08 and moved my library to my external hard drive exactly as all the instructions online explained how to do.  I renamed the original "iPhoto Library.old" and ,y external hard drive shows a iPhoto library using the same amount of memory as what it shows on my internal hard drive.  Here is where is becomes a problem.  When I hold the option key and open iPhoto, the only box that comes up does not give me a list of libraries to choose from.  It give me the option to "Create new library" or "choose existing library". When I click "choose existing library" I can find the copied library on my external hard drive but when I open it, iPhoto shows No Photos.  When I have tried opening the original iPhoto Library (the exact same way using the option key and choosing library) that I have not done anything to, except rename it, it does the exact same thing: No Photos.  Both my internal and external hard drives show about 137 GB of space being taken up by photos but I can't access them.  My other big problem is that ,y internal hard drive is completely full, which is why I am trying to transfer them to an external, to free up space so I am very limited on what I can do because I have no free space.  Also, when I open iPhoto and try to go to the Preferences to change to path under advanced settings, it freezes and I have to force close it.
Ay advice would be greatly appreciated as I am getting stressed out that I can't open my thousands of photos!

My guess is that the library has been corrupted from being run on an overfull HD.
So, try rebuild the Library on the External
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I'm having some difficulty with Time Machine.  It appears to be deleting backups from random dates on my external hard drive.  I am not deleting them.  Are they hidden and how do I prevent this from happening?  Can I retrieve them?

I'm having some difficulty with Time Machine.  It appears to be deleting backups from random dates on my external hard drive.  I am not deleting them.  Are they hidden and how do I prevent this from happening?  Can I retrieve them?

... I didn't know that Time Machine was more a last resort back up instead of main back up.
Don't rely upon Time Machine to the exclusion of all else. I compliment Time Machine with a periodic "clone". TM is much better than nothing, but it's a safety net, not a hammock
Here is my understanding of Time Machine's file deletion algorithm, distilled from Pondini's FAQ, Apple's KB articles, and my own observations.
Time Machine deletes ("thins") files from the backup disk as follows:
Hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first backup of the day
Daily backups over 30 days old, except the first backup of the week
Older backups get deleted when Time Machine requires space and you deleted them from the source disk.
Therefore, assuming TM has been performing at least one backup per day, backup files will remain available:
at least thirty days, if they existed on your Mac for at least a day
until you run out of space, if they existed on your Mac for at least a week
In addition to the above, Time Machine always keeps one complete copy of your source disk so that the entire volume could be restored if necessary. Any files that remain on your source volume will be present on the TM backup, no matter how old they are.
If you are using 250 GB of space on your source disk, its Time Machine backups are likely to require at least twice that much. A good estimate of the minimum required backup volume size would be about three times the size of your source disk - 1.5 TB in your case.
A more thorough explanation would require Pondini since he has plumbed Time Machine's mysteries far more than I have.
