3 Java Files Problem.

I got 3 java files let say sub.java, sub1.java and sub2.java.
the code for the sub files are as below with
import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;
on the top of each files.
sub2.java
=======
public class sub2{
String txt;
int x, y;
void setting(String objStr, int StartX, int StartY){
txt = objStr;
x = StartX;
y = StartY;
public void paint(Graphics g){
g.setColor(Color.blue);
g.drawString(txt, x, y);
sub1.java
=======
public class sub1{
sub2 chair;
String txt;
public void init(){
txt = "Oracle";
chair = new sub2();
public void paint(Graphics g){
chair.setting(txt, 20, 20);
chair.paint(g);
chair.setting(txt, 20, 40);
chair.paint(g);
chair.setting(txt, 20, 60);
chair.paint(g);
sub.java
======
public class sub extends Applet{
sub1 room;
public void init(){
room = new sub1();
public void paint(Graphics g){
room.paint(g);
room.paint(g);
All files can be compiled but i can't run sub.java
where i expect it to paint 6 "Oracle" string.
Anybody can help me?

In your class sub.java, you created a new sub1 object (1) without calling its init() method afterwards.
sub.java
======
public class sub extends Applet{
sub1 room;
public void init(){
(1) room = new sub1();
room.init(); // here is the missing line
Because the init method of sub1 (2) has not been called,
its sub2 instance (chair) won't be created and remains null.
I guess you'll get a NullPointerException at (3) when running the Applet.
sub1.java
=======
public class sub1{
sub2 chair;
String txt;
(2) public void init(){
txt = "Oracle";
chair = new sub2();
public void paint(Graphics g){
chair.setting(txt, 20, 20);(3)
chair.paint(g);
chair.setting(txt, 20, 40);
chair.paint(g);
chair.setting(txt, 20, 60);
chair.paint(g);
I hope this helps...

  • Keeping generated Java files???

    How do I keep the generated java source code when my
              jsp pages get compiled. I have the following in my properties file:
              weblogic.httpd.register.*.jsp=weblogic.servlet.JSPServlet
              weblogic.httpd.initArgs.*.jsp=\
              pageCheckSeconds=1,\
              compileCommand=C:/jdk1.3/bin/java.exe,\
              workingDir=C:/Weblogic/myserver/classfiles,\
              verbose=true,\
              keepgenerated=true
              The only files that are saved are the ones that get generated from
              jsp pages that contain errors.

    Hi Leo,
              as you are using a WebApp: sef, your context isn't the default one
              the solution is to put :
              <context-param>
              <param-name>weblogic.jsp.keepgenerated</param-name>
              <param-value>true</param-value>
              </context-param>
              at the begining of your web.xml file in the WEB-INF dir. after the
              "description" tag.
              You can too modify, using this method, the defaults of:
              weblogic.jsp.precompile
              weblogic.jsp.verbose
              weblogic.jsp.packagePrefix
              weblogic.jsp.compileCommand
              weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds
              but it seems (at least I have not been able to do it...:) )
              that this is not possible with:
              weblogic.jsp.workingDir
              to put the generated file in other place.
              PacoG.
              P.D.: Pay attention to the fact that the generated files will be
              remote accesible at the URL:
              http://yourserver/yourwebapp/_tmp_war/yourpackageprefix/yourgeneratedfile.ja
              va
              and

  • Problem - Scanner.java file not found

    Hello all, I've been having a problem with a Java installation on windows vista. I've installed both the Java 2 1.4.2_16 sdk, and the Java EE 5 update 3 sdk. However, neither install contains the Scanner.java file... On my desktop running XP, this is not the case. I've tried reinstalling but to no avail. My classpath is set correctly because my programs compile that import java.util.*; But when I create a scanner object I get the dreaded can't resolve symbol error, but only when I compile under vista... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :)

    Scanner was implemented beginning with v1.5x, and comes in the JDK SE, not the EE.

    I have small problem accessing my method variables from my java bean file to a JSP page. can some please take a look and tell me why I can't populate my JSP page, I've been trying all day to get this done!!!
    This is my Java file

         catch(IOException e)
                    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
         Thanks KT

    ......How are you declaring the class in your JSP? ... are you instantiating it as a bean using the useBean tag, or just instantiating it in your code like normal.
    Maybe you could post the relevant JSP code too?
    Hello again,
    Only the last string is populating after the file has be tokenized. What I'll like to accomplish is passing the very first string in the file. I did not get too far in the JSP file setup because the code is still in it's testing stage, but any help will be highly appreciated.
    Here is the JSP code
    <%@page import="dev.*" %>
    <%@page session="true" language="java" import="java.io.*" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="wagerhist" scope="request" class="dev.RoundDetail2" />

  • Cannot open any Java files on my Mac OSX: Problem Solved

    Hello all,
    I have just begun an Introduction to Java class and I'm already having problems...namely, I cannot open .java files on my Mac.
    Whenever I try to open them, I get an error message that says: "You cannot use this version of the application Xcode with this version of Mac OS X."
    I'm running version 10.5.4 on a PowerPC Mac. It's a few years old, but I don't understand how it could already be so outdated as to not allow me to even use the application.
    I am 100% new to programming and don't really know at all what I'm doing. Apple says their JDK comes with every Mac and no one else seems to be having this problem. I don't really even know where to go to for updates, if that is what I need to do, or if I should just download a different JDK.
    This is an intensive (6-week) class and I don't want to fall behind, but it's halfway through the first week and I cannot even open files.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    EDIT: I figured out the problem by getting out my installation disks and I found the latest xCode tools app in the "optional packages" folder.
    Installed it and now I'm up and running.

    You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • PROBLEM IN SAVING A FILE AS JAVA FILE

    PLEASE TELL ME ANYBODY RELATED TO THIS TOPIC,
    I WANT TO SAVE MY FILE AS .JAVA FILE ,BUT IT SAVES AS .TXT FILE.

    Man!! Looks like I'm thinking of everything from a develpment point of view!! Need to go out and smell the air!! ;O))
    Doing it by placing the file name in quotations is the best way to go about it, what I also do is that I set my windows to show me extentions for all files as well so that I know whats happening.
    Tools -> Folder Options [View Tab]
    Un-check "Hide extentions for known file types"
    then your file name will appear as abcd.java.txt, which you can rename removing the .txt part from it.... :O)

    I have installed the latest JEE 5 SDK on Win XP Home. I have the following variable set as follows,
    CLASSPATH = .;C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
    PATH = C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem;C:\Sun\AppServer\lib\ant\bin
    ANT_HOME = C:\Sun\AppServer\lib\ant
    I have spent hours scratching my head but don?t have a clue. I was wondering if you have any idea as why I might be getting these errors.
    Thank you for your time.
    Green

    Hello, did you read the answers?
    You have to put j2ee.jar or servlet-api.jar in your classpath. Those JAR files are included in the Java EE package somewhere. Remove the QTJava.zip junk from the classpath.
    If you don't know what the classpath is and how to set it, read this:
    Setting the class path
    How Classes are Found
    And I'll repeat what the others say: if you are very new to Java, then Java EE will probably be way over your head. First learn the language and the standard API. If you understand that well, start with Java EE. Or do you already know what servlets are, and that you need a servlet container to run them, and how to deploy them etc.?

  • Can not see the design view nor the java file in CentOS

    Hi all. I've recently installed JSC2 in CentOS. I find this tool really useful. But I have a problem with the design view and the java file view. At the beginning, when I first create a Page1.jsp, I can see the design view and the java view with no problem. I run apps correctly. But after a while, I get a "null pointer exception" error and I am able to see only the jsp view, not the others. I don't even have the option to see the Design and Java views. And the page icon in the project window appears to be darker than a well working page. I'm not really sure what sequence of actions I do to get this error, it just suddenly happens. What I've done so far in JSC2 is to link to pages in the Page Navigation view. It works fine for a while, but after a while I get the error I've described.

    Yes, if I do that It happens the same. I've tried everything. Now I'm using Window$ 2000 and it works properly. Thanks anyway.
