3 Wk old Nano not working - won't power up, not updating right, etc

My new 1 gig nano is sick. No matter how long it's plugged in, it still says "Do Not Disconnect" even though it's fully charged. It won't power up at all. I did the reset that is suggested on the website. My hold button is not engaged, so that's not the problem. I recently installed the new ipod updater and I have the most recent version of iTunes. I'm running Win XP on a Toshiba Laptop. I noticed another post that Toshibas have a dislike for Nanos and I tried to disable the enhanced USB (?) setting, but I can't disable my USB's because I have some other critical hardware that is normally connected to them. Right now nothing else is connected.

You are still under warranty.  Either call iPod tech support - U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) or take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • How to recover my iPhone 6 from disabled without losing my data as the backup in my iTunes is old and not updated.

    Hi,
I have iPhone 6 and the after the screen has broken the phone was starting to enter random passcode from itself until its locked and disabled. I have replaced the screen with a new one and I need to make a backup of my data in the phone and not reset or restore from the phone backup in my iTunes as it's old and not updated. Kindly advise me how to make this task as I have important data I need to not lose.
    Best regards,

You cannot now. The only way to reset the passcode and remove the disabled status is to restore the device. There is no way to make a new backup now.  That is actually the whole point of the passcode attempt limitation and the disabling of the device - to keep someone without the passcode from getting at your data. Once disabled, your sole single recourse is to restore it in order to be able to do anything with it.
At this point you can restore from your existing backup, or as new. Either way, you've already lost the current data on the device.

  • IPod Nano stops working after 1.0.2 firmware update

I just updated the firmware of my ipod nano last night to 1.0.2. I was using thru out the day when it suddenly stops playing the next music in my playlist. My ipod shows the play icon but there is no sound and the play track is not moving. Tried to play a different music and videos but the same problem occurs. Tried to reset is several times but doesn't fix the problem will try to reset the firmware later when I get home.

Just got the nano 3rd gen yesterday. Already had a Nano 1st gen. Running Itunes 7.x on windows 2000 os at work (1st gen nano used there). Needed new Nano in a hurry, so went to RShack and bought one. Ran home....Itunes says wont work with Nano 3rd gen. Went to download upgrade for Itunes, and find out the upgrade won't run unless running windows XP or VISTA.... Borrrowed a laptop with XP OS and got latest Itunes. Happy...happy...joy...joy, now I can get Itunes and new Nano to work together. Now gotta get music off old Nano and into new Nano usiing borrowed laptop. (Found a program on net called 'SimpleCenter' to do this.) Xferred music from old Nano to Itunes on laptop, then transferred entire library to new Nano. (Was out of reach of wireless network while doing this, so was unable to 'UPDATE NANO' when prompted by Itunes.)
    Sooo...
Took laptop over to its owners home (and wirless network) and Updated the firmware to 1.0.2. When supposedly complete, the new Nano starts to Reset continuously (Apple Logo....Menu Screen......Apple Logo.....Menu Screen....Apple Logo etc. etc.) Oh 'darn' ........
So frustrating.... Disconnected new Nano from laptop during the couple seconds the main menu was showing.
For grins went to play the solitaire game that comes with new Nano, but comes up with error message saying it (the game) won't load. (Worked fine earlier, before the 'upgrade')
Oh Mannnn..... I find that there a 'ton' of other 3rd gen Nano usere having same problem with firmware upgrade 1.0.2.
I will wait for some response from Apple on this issue for a few weeks before I take the device back to dealer. I expect that this problem will be resolved by Apple in quick order in the form of a new firmware upgrade (or something similar). I really don't want to hassle the dealer at this time, and can live with the old Nano at least until the end of November, when I will be needing both Nanos for a special event.

  • New nano not updating play counts - any help would be greatly appreciated!

I purchased a new nano (7G) yesterday. When I play music (and plug it back into my computer) the play count / last played does not update on my computer. I've tried restoring and turning sync on and off again (I use manual update) to no avail.
I didn't have this issue with my old iPod, so it shouldn't be a problem with iTunes. The play count does go up according to the nano's display, but it doesn't transfer to my computer's play counts. I also tried an old suggestion of playing a podcast for 30 seconds before plugging it, but that didn't work either.
Using 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.7. I hope I'm just missing something simple. Thanks!

I found this about what I think is the same problem I had, although mine was with my iphone but think it could be useful. I think my issue was that i had put my girlfriends phone on first so when i put mine on, it prioritised the original one. Not sure anyway, but sounds similar and for now it has been fixed.
Right Click on your iphones name and click sync one more time, when this is done, click on your music folder under your iphones name you will get this message "You have changed the settings for the iPhone “dermott o'donnell’s iPhone”. Would you like to apply these changes?" click apply
and the play count should be updated, my music is managed manually as well

  • NANO not updating

I have multiple IPODs and never had this problem...I recenttly plugged my new 1GB Nano into the computer and it updated fine..I made some changes in the options screen (Enable Disk Use) and now when I plug it in it will not update and even the "Updater" tells me it "Can't Mount The IPOD". I'm sure someone might be able to help..I'm pulling my hair out. Once I plug it in it acts as if it is updating and then tells me "OK To Disconnect" Please please please help ASAP before I throw this NANO

  • HT3964 My iMac is approx 3 years old. It suddenly won't power up. It was plugged in through a power surge preventer but there seems now to be no life at all. The fuse in the plug is fine.

iMac that won't power on, any advice please?

If there are no sounds or video at all it seems the power supply is dead. Take the machine in for service at your local Apple Store or AASP. Then when it's repaired connect the machine to  a uninterruptible power supply, you can purchase a good quality one for less than $100 at your local office supply store.

  • My mbp won't power up after update.

after running an app store update, (Xcode) my mbp won't power up and the battery lights are showing flat even though it was on charge over night.
the update was taking a long time, and it had a message saying something like deleting old files.
i went to bed and left it over night.
when i went back this mornng it had powered down, and the drained the battery even though it was plugged in.
now i can not power up, and i have tried the smc reset.
    please help.
    many thanks.

This is the standard Apple support article for your situation.  If you cannot try another adapter to try, I suspect a trip to an Apple store genius bar is in your future.

  • Macbook Air won't power up after update

My son is on an internship in Alaska with his Macbook Air -- bringing the Macbook Air in to a "Genius" is not an option.
His Macbook Air (about 2 years old) has been working perfectly, but then this morning Apple pushed an update so he downloaded and applied it and now his Macbook Air will not power on. At all.
Is there a reset hole / button or anything he can do? Or is he just out of luck for the next several weeks until he comes back?
I cannot tell you which release the Macbook Air is, given that he cannot power it up to see, but he, like all of us, is running the latest OSX.

Thanks to Loner T and others in that thread I linked to above, my son's Macbook Air is now working again.
Doing the following 3 times brought it back:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Airport won't power up after updates 5.5.2 and 7.5.2

I updated this afternoon via Software Update: Airport Utility (to v. 5.5.2) and Airport Extreme firmware (to v. 7.5.2). Everything seemed fine, noticed no problems and later I shut down my main computer for the day.
When my wife came home later, she couldn't get an Airport connection on her MacBook Pro. In the process of troubleshooting, I went back to the Base Station and found it was off (no light at all). It simply won't power up at all. Unplugged it, replugged it, etc.
Seems like too much of a coincidence that my unit would have just flat-out died after these updates.
    Anybody know what's up?

Thanks Bob, I'm afraid you're right. I didn't know that a firmware update could fry hardware like this! It's just too much of a coincidence to be a... well, coincidence. (Especially now that I see all the other people having problems today after this update.)
I've also reported the issue to Apple via the link you posted in another thread: http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportextreme.html

    Hey laurelletoo,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

  • Music videos-but i have a old nano not a new one

ok so i really want this song but they only have it as a video if i buy will i still be able to listen to the song and not watch the video??

Only on the 3rd generation Nano.

  • Nano not updating music properly

I had my new nano set to sync automatically which on my 2nd gen nano, would mean it would only update songs that were checked. this new nano is ignoring the check marks and is loading all of my music.
I've just checked 'manually update" but now i'm not sure what that is going to involve...now i have to unclick everything and start again?
any other way to deal with this?
    thanks

*this new nano is ignoring the check marks and is loading all of my music.*
Have you got "sync only checked songs and videos" enabled in the iPod Summary tab? Unchecking the song in iTunes isn't enough.
*I've just checked 'manually update" but now i'm not sure what that is going to involve.*
When you use that setting you have to drag and drop anything you want on the iPod from the iTunes library, it won't be added automatically: Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Another way to sync music to an iPod that avoids the complications that unchecking brings is to use the option "Sync Music - Selected playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

Hi. I have a Ipod Nano 4g. The restoring didnt help.

  • Dv7-6059eo, microphone and camera not working, have re-installed the system, updated drivers etc.

Hello. A couple of days ago, my microphone and camera suddenly stopped working. When I started up my camera in Skype, it said "Please open YouCam" or something like that, and when I did, it told me to update it. So I did. Then it told me that I had to uninstall the current version of YouCam. When I did and tried to install the update, it said something like "no video device detected".
After updating drivers and un-/installing things, I recovered my whole computer to fabric options. Still not working. So I suspect that it might have something to do with the hardware. Although I don't know what should have caused it, as it just happened randomly in the middle of the day.

Try the User Tip suggestions first.  Your system does need a plist, but a properly working OS X automatically generates any needed plist files when you launch the associated app (if its plist does not already exist.)
