$300 For 2 Photoshop/Illustrator scripts- Applescript Preffered

I have been meaning to write these myself for months, but have been too busy, so we're trying to hire someone.
We would prefer these to be mostly Applescript, because I know Applescript and will be able to modify/maintain them, but we might consider all Javascript if there are no bites on Applescript.
There are probably bits in here that are not accessible to Applescript, that would need to be in Javascript. I think color overlays are not in the scripting dictionary and need to be figured out with scripting listener. That's fine, as necessary, to call Javascript from an Applescript. We just want it to be in Aplescript as much as possible.

I assume that if you're interested, you'd want more information. We can provide example files in the "before" and finished states, talk or email about any questions you have, and I also have examples of some steps of the scripts functioning for reference.
Here is the outline of the two scripts:
Script 1: Assign Color Overlay
Overview:
This script would need to do the following in Adobe Photoshop. The script will be run from a command key.
Script Steps:
1. Ideally, read the current swatches on the swatch pallet in Photoshop. If this is a pain/impossible, then we’re open to getting this info from somewhere else. We can save out the info needed as a .csv or .txt and the script can just load it from there.
2. When the script is run, it presents a dialog with a list of the colors from the swatch pallet. The user chooses a color from the list.
3. It applies the color selected as a "Color Overlay" Layer Effect to the currently selected layer. If the layer already has a color overlay effect, it updates it to the selected color. The color overlay effect is applied with the “Screen” blending mode.
4. It changes the layer name to the name of the color that was selected
Script 2: Save Files and Convert Photoshop File to Spot Color Raster EPS
Overview:
The script will save out the active Photoshop file in multiple copies in different ways, place data on the clipboard, and then use Illustrator to convert one of the Photoshop files to a different format.
The open file when the script is run will always be a Photoshop file with layers, with the topmost layers named by colors as specified by the above “Script 1.” The files can have an arbitrary number of layers, but will all be in this format:
first layer [Some Color Name]
arbitrary number of additional layers, each with color names
Shirt [ <- this is a solid color layer]
Art [<- this is a single group containing arbitrary layers]
Script Steps:
1. The active file is saved out exactly as it is. When the script’s run, it presents a save dialog. The operator chooses the save folder location and file name. I will refer to this as “The Save Folder” The script will then check to see if there’s an “Art” folder in The Save Folder. If there is, it saves the file there. If not, it creates the “Art” folder and saves it there. If the file already exists, it automatically overwrites and does not provide a dialog about it.
2. Another copy is saved using “Save For Web. The original file was at 300 dpi and this copy is saved out bicubic down sampled to 72 dpi with the same inch dimensions. The save settings are {JPEG – High, Progressive – off, Optimized – on, Embed Color profile – off, Quality – 72, Blur – 0, Matte – none, Convert To sRGB – yes}   This one has the same file name as the first copy (except for the file extension) and is saved in The Save Folder.
3. A flat copy of the art at the same dimensions but downsampled to 18 dpi is placed on the clipboard.
4. An intermediate file for Illustrator conversion is saved. This should probably be saved in a new folder in The Save Folder called “Intermediate Files.” This folder needs to be checked for and created only if necessary. The file should have a naming scheme such as “Intermediate File” & [existing file name]. This file is identical to file 1, except:
- the shirt layer and art folder are removed. This should probably be scripted as deleting the layer named “shirt” and everything below it in the file.
- all the color overlays are removed (or turned off)
5. Close the file.
6. Open the intermediate file in Illustrator with the “Convert Layers to Objects” option.
7. Select All
8. Edit -> Edit Colors -> Convert to Greyscale
9. Cycle through each layer one at a time and change the fill color to the swatch from an open Illustrator swatchbook called “Current Inks” with the same name as the layer name.
To clarify this previous step, our artists will be working off the same .ASE color swatchbook in both Photoshop and Illustrator. In Photoshop, the colors from this .ASE will be used as color overlays on layers. The file needs to be imported to Illustrator and have the same colors applied as fill colors of the raster objects that were the Photoshop layers. The color information is being conveyed from Photoshop to Illustrator through the layer names in Photoshop.
10. Save this file to The Save Folder as a .AI with the same name and “CONV”
11. Delete the intermediate file.

@Jongware -- thanks for your thoughts! I hated to think that I was going to be on the plank all by myself here... :-)
@TomT-shirts -- no worries. Given your articulate RFP, I suspected that something was amiss here, not the least of which was the fact that the numbers seemed to have been misinterpreted, I knew what was happening and probably why it was happening before I posted, so I was just trying to diplomatically (or not?!?) trying to alert both parties of a problem. You are (in my opinion and I think others' as well) perfectly fine in posting the listing here. How else would anyone know about your need and a possible opportunity for folks here that are able to help? SO that's all good. Where I (at least) felt the problem was/is is the continuing of the "transaction" "on-forum", which you clearly explained how that happened. Empathetic to your potential public disclosure of additional private information (as noted by @Jongware) is why I thought that it might be a good idea to step up and implicitly suggest taking it off-forum, not even knowing "how" it happened on your end. Also good points by @Jongware about the closure of such threads, something that I never really thought about.
So, at least from my perspective, keep 'em coming (at least the projects and questions :-)) and please do let everyone know that you were well taken care of by the folks here on this forum by a comment afterwards to "close" the thread as suggested by @Jongware. A pretty smart group they are (myself humbly excluded).
And -- best of luck on your project!!!! :-)

    Thanks for your reply. I was able to find help through a tech support chat session and the person helped me edit my /etc/hosts file and it solved the problem.
    For anyone else experiencing this issue (Mac OS X):
    Close all other programs and sign out from the Adobe Desktop App
    From the Finder, Go > Go to Folder...
    Type /etc and hit enter
    Find "hosts" file (only "hosts", there were similar files such as hosts.config but only open the one that says "hosts"
    Open the file, and replace the entire content with ### Host Database## localhost is used to configure the loopback interface#
    Close the file, sign back into the Adobe Desktop App
    Problem solved!

    Hello,
    Can you please advise me as to the recommended system requirements for Adobe CC for Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver (all 4 programs). I'm hoping this is summarized somewhere rather than making me look up and compare all four. I'll be using a windows based PC, and will need a graphics card that can support at least two monitors.

  • Mac requirements for Photoshop/Illustrator

    This probably gets asked Ad Nauseum, but we're PC users who now need a new computer and have decided to go to a Mac, with the principle purpose of working with Web Premium CS5, in particular Photoshop and Illustrator.
    We want something robust enough to work with these programs at a better than minimum performance level, especially with 3D rendering involved.
    So my question is if the following specs for the New iMac at $1699 CAD will be sufficient. My concern might be the 512MB for the Graphics controller ... and how much better is 3.1 Ghz for the Processor ?
    27-inch: 2.7GHz
    2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    2560 x 1440 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB
    Thanks!

    3.1 is what, 10% faster than 2.7?  It's pretty much that straight up when looking at the same processor, isn't it?
    Illustrator, up to CS5 anyway, could care less about your graphics card.  CS6 is rumored to be 64 bit and as such might also have been written to take advantage of modern things like graphics cards.
    RAM - Up to CS5, about 2gb was all Illustrator could use itself so beyond that, you're only helping multitasking, (which is important to a degree).  Pshop will take whatever you give it.  Not sure about inDesign and the others.  I think ID uses more, but I'm not sure.  CS6 though, if it is 64bit, will use all you give it (which will be awesome)
    Blah, blah, realworld:  I work at home now, on my 23" iMac 3.06 with 6gigs of ram, and it is perfectly fine 90% of the time.  The other 10%, when I'm working with bigger files in Illus., (like packaging for a pair of stilts the other day) it can get a little slow, but I don't think it's much slower than the monster Mac Pro I had when I was working in the office.  My feeling is that with CS6 that might make a bigger difference, but CS5 and below are crippled more by the software than any hardware you can throw at them these days.

  • I have a student edition of Adobe Creative Cloud But it keeps saying all my trials are expiring. I think I may need my serial code for Photoshop/Illustrator but I no longer have it, How can I get it back?

    Analisiatorres if the Adobe Creative software is unable to validate your membership it is likely due to a connection error.  Please see Sign in, activation, or connection errors | CC, CS6, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html for information on how to resolve the connection error.

  • Could anyone write an Illustrator script for me? will pay

    Hi,
    I am looking for a illustrator script to help my work. I have lots of pictures placed in illustrator, and a drew line with a custom size. The size of the pictures can not be changed, and what I want to do is the script can auto select pictures and line them up (with a custom space between the pictures), so the length of the pictures can be equal to the line's length. After the script finished with one group of pictures, it will turn to line up another group automatically.
    How long it gonna take for you to write a script like that and how much is it?
    Thanks
    Michelle

    align and distribute can't do that?

  • CS2 - Help won't open in Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLive

    Hi,
    I am unable to open the help center in Creative Suite 2 for Photoshop, Illustrator, and GoLive.
    After I click help, or press F1 to open help, I see the help program appear as a button on my Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen. But if I click on it to open/switch to help, nothing happens. It's like the help center is "invisible".
    I have tried renaming my prefs file to see if a new prefs file would fix it. It didn't.
    It seems like this is a problem I had with the previous version of these programs, too. (I think that was Photoshop 7??) I had fixed it in that version, but can't remember what the fix was. I can't seem to find this problem in the forums or support either.
    It's driving me crazy!! Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    The help (zip) files are still available:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=319210&sliceId=2
    While this addresses an issue that CS2 users (including myself) have experienced, I'm not convinced that Natalie is having this particular problem. She doesn't mention getting the "CS2 product not installed" message.
    >"the help program appear[s] as a button on my Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen . . . It's like the help center is "invisible"
    Could it be that the help window is simply positioned off-screen?

  • 1366 x 768 Display enough for photoshop?

    I'm looking to get a hp envy 14 laptop soon for doing my graphics work at school... When at home I can plug in to my 23-inch monitor but while at school will 1366x768px be too small to practically use for photoshop/illustrator?

    For average digicam photo editing tasks like color adjustments and simple cutouts it will be enough, but of course you will be hard pressed to do extensive retouche jobs on high res imagery or even precision jobs. The constant zooming will not make this a pleasant experience. Using the tab key to toggle palette visibility as Marian suggested will help a little, but not in all situations. Sometimes you will simpyl have to have many palettes open to do a specific task and then your image will almost disappear...

  • Laptop for adobe illustrator and photoshop

    We are getting a new laptop for my daughter and a subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud.  She is interested in graphic design and mostly uses photoshop and illustrator.  She has already sold several ebook covers and some other design projects.  We are looking at laptops with an i7 processor and a SATA drive.  We are unsure where to put our money - faster processor, more RAM, SATA vs optical drive, dedicated graphics card - for optimum performance. What do we really need?  dedicated graphics cards seem to cost about $200-300 more.  My IT friend says the SATA drive will make the biggest difference in speed....
    HELP!!!
    Here is two we are looking at .  Would these perform well for creative cloud and last several years?  Which would be better?  Thanks for your advice.
    Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series Touchscreen Laptop | Intel Core i7 | Backlit Keyboard
    8GB DDR3L 1600MHz RA
    Intel Core i7-4510U Processor at 2.0GHz
    8GB DDR3L 1600MHz RA
    1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Microsoft® Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
    15.6" Touchscreen Truelife HD LED Backlit (1366 x 768) Display
    Integrated Graphics
    HP ENVY 15t Touchscreen Laptop | Intel Core i7
    4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ Processor (2.5GHz)
    16GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
    SuperMulti DVD Burner
    Microsoft® Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
    802.11b/g/n WLAN
    HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone
    15.6-inch diagonal Touchscreen HD LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
    Intel HD Graphics 4600

    What is you actual budget?
    If you are wanting a machine that is going to run well for a number of years and keep up with the ever developing Adobe Creative Cloud then I would suggest investing in something that has a good amount of RAM (8GB RAM recommended), a good graphics card (1GB VRAM recommended), a good processor and plenty of hard disk space.
    Here is the specifications for Photoshop and Illustrator:
    System requirements | Photoshop
    System requirements | Illustrator
    My suggestion would be something like this Dell Precision M3800 — 15" Mobile Workstation | Dell UK
    Good luck.

  • Getting Page Count for a Multi-Page PDF file using Illustrator script?

    Does anyone know how to get the page count of a multi page PDF file?  I know you can then open each page using the PDFFileOptions (pagetoopen).  But I need to know up front how many pages there are to loop thru to open each page and process each page.
    Any Ideas?

    This script i did for photoshop:
    OK so lets do it working on WIN and MAC without any shell script.
    This solution is not the best but its working.
    I used Try catch to solve it.
    Only issue is that you should at least somehow know how many pages you expect in pdf.. this mean if you are working with books or flyers...
    Then set the maxPagesCount to that number.
    I am working with pdfs with max 20pages.. so i start open the 20 then 19 then 18 and when i am success i know the amount of pages.
    Its not the quicker way but its usable.
    var maxPagesCount = 20;
    var actPagesCount = maxPagesCount;
    var opts1 = new PDFOpenOptions();
    opts1.usePageNumber = true;
    opts1.antiAlias = true;
    opts1.bitsPerChannel = BitsPerChannelType.EIGHT;
    opts1.resolution = 10; //it will load faster the test page
    opts1.suppressWarnings = true;
    opts1.cropPage = CropToType.MEDIABOX;
    myFunction = function () {
      try {
          app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.NO;
          var fileList = openDialog();
          for (i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
            actPagesCount = maxPagesCount;
            getPagesCount(fileList[i],maxPagesCount);
            alert(actPagesCount);
      } catch (exception) {
        alert(exception);
    getPagesCount = function (checkFile, lastPageID) {
      try {
        for (var checkPage = lastPageID; checkPage > 0; checkPage--) {
          opts1.page = checkPage;
          var docRef = open(checkFile, opts1, false);
          docRef.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
          actPagesCount = lastPageID;
          return;
          checkPage=0;
      } catch (exception) {
        // Look for next page
        checkPage--;
        getPagesCount(checkFile,checkPage);

  • In Need of a developer for Photoshop and Illustrator plugins

    I am in need of a developer interested in developing plugins for Photoshop and Illustrator for a specific industry of Textiles and Fashion. Please contact me if you are a developer with experience in plugin development. [email protected]

    Hmmm... I'm using JSF but it's my first project so I don't really know it's powers.
    I instantiated all classes that will eventually populate the combo box (through reflection) and now I'm trying to find one which of the objects did the user select.
    Would it be a problem for you to give me at least a rough scatch of what I should do?
    I tried it like this:
    in my managed bean:
    public HtmlSelectOneMenu getProductsMenu() {
            //instantiate and populate the list of products (prodlist)
            for (Product p : prodlist){
                optionlist.add(new SelectItem(p, p.getName()));
            final UISelectItems items = new UISelectItems();
            items.setValue(optionlist);
            productsMenu.getChildren().add(items);
            return productsMenu;
        }and in my JSP:
    <h:selectOneMenu binding="#{managedBean.productsMenu}" />but then, in the bean, when I try:
    ((Product)productsMenu.getValue())I get a Class cast exception. it says it can't can't cast String to Product...
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

  • How to create clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator

    I am puzzled to death on how in the world to get clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator, particularly white text. I want my text to turn out exactly like the text at this website: thepainteddoor.org
    If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, notice the titles "Featured Media", "Social Networking", and "Contact Information". They are all .gif images. I have tried to replicate what these images look like for about 3 hours now to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to do this? It just looks like a simple outline or drop shadow, but I can't get it to show up like that. If someone could help me replicate that effect with text (aka make it show up clean as an image), I would graciously give them money through PayPal*.
    * = I will only give cash if it will replicate it exactly (and I mean exactly)..and it won't be too much..I'm a poor college student. :-P
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

    You would do it the way I created it:
    Select the Text tool in Photoshop and set the font and parameters as I have listed.  Then enter whatever text you like.  It will be rendered over the top of the lower layers you may have in the document.  Save as an image of the appropriate type and you're there.
    Note that "lower layers you may have in the document" could conceivably be none at all (i.e., you render the text over a transparent document).  You could imagine saving that as a .png with transparency and get light text in an image that could then be put over the top of anything else.  The alpha mixing will see to it that the edges smoothly blend with the background.  I haven't actually tried this (I usually do try my own suggestions) because of lack of time right now.
