30EA3- 2.*: Weird performance issues for editing objects
Hi,
I noticed weird performance issues for editing objects: when right-clicking on them in the navigator tree and selecting Edit, you get the old progress dialog "Connected to database XXX". This stays on screen a lot longer than it ever did (last sequence I edited over 30 seconds!).
Cancelling displays a "Error retrieving schemas" dialog, but then opens the Edit dialog correctly. No further side effects noticed, so I think sqldev is adding useless overhead here.
If confirmed, can this be bugged and/or fixed by production?
Thanks,
K.
Yes, I mean in context of other hangs reported. This one is a nasty performance issue, but IMO the others are real show stoppers.
Atomic steps are easy; any* Edit (object) action inside the context menu of the navigator or the Edit button of the object viewer.
I took a lot of dumps (every second or so) and came to these findings:

Performance Issue for BI system
Hello,
We are facing performance issues for BI System. Its a preproductive system and its performance is degrading badly everyday. I was checking system came to know program buffer hit ratio is increaasing everyday due to high Swaps. So asked to change the parameter abap/buffersize which was 300Mb to 500Mb. But still no major improvement is found in the system.
There is 16GB Ram available and Server is HP-UX and with Netweaver2004s with Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 installed in it.
The Main problem is while running a report or creating a query is taking way too long time.
Kindly help me.Hello SIva,
Thanks for your reply but i have checked ST02 and ST03 and also SM50 and its normal
we are having 9 dialog processes, 3 Background , 2 Update and 1 spool.
No one is using the system currently but in ST02 i can see the swaps are in red.

Performance issue with Business Objects Java JRC API in CRXI R2 version
A report is developed using java JRC API in CR XI release 2. When I generate the report in the designer, it took less than 5 seconds to display the results in crystal report viewer inside the designer. But in the QA environment, when I generate the same report from the application, it takes almost 1 to 1.5 minutes to display the same results in PDF. I also noticed that if the dataset contains bigger volume of data, then the reports are taking even longer almost 15 to 20 minutes.
While generating the report from the application, I noticed that most of time is taken during the execution of the com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.ReportExportControl Object method as shown in following line of code
exportControl.processHttpRequest(request, response, context, null)
We thought the delay in exporting the report to PDF might be the layout of the report and data conversion to PDF for such a bigger volume of data.
Then we investigated the issue and experimented quickly to generate the same report with same result set data from the application using XML, XSL and converted the output XSL-FO to PDF using Apache FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) implementation. The time taken to export the report to PDF is less than 6 seconds. By doing this experiment, it is proved that the issue is not with conversion of data to PDF but it is the performance problem with Business Objects Java JRC API in CR XI R2.
In this regard, I searched for the above issue in the SAP community Network Forums -> Crystal Reports and Xcelsius -> Java Development -> Crystal Reports. But I did not find any answers or solutions for this kind of issue in the forums.
Any suggestion, hint in this matter is very much appreciated.Ted, The setReportAppServer problem is resolved. Now I could able to generate the report with hardcoded values in the SQLs in just 6 seconds where as the same report was generated in CRXI R2 in 1 minute 15 seconds as mentioned in the earlier message.
But, our exisiting application passes the parameter values to the SQLs embedded in the report. For some reason the parameters are not being passed to the report and the report displays only the labels without data.
As per the crj 12 samples codes, the code is written as shown below.
1. Created ReportClient Document
2. SetReportAppServer
3. Open the report
4. Getting DatabaseController and switching the database connection at runtime
5. Then setting the parameters as detailed below
ParameteFields parameterFieldController = reportClientDoc.getDataDefController().getParameterFieldController();
parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramvalue);
parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramavalue);
byteArrayInputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
6. Streaming the report to the browser
Why the parematers are not being passed to the report? Do I need to follow the order of setting these parameters? Did I miss any line of code for setting Params using crj 12?
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. -
Performance Issues when editing large PDFs
We are using Adobe 9 and X Professional and are experiencing performance issues when attempting to edit large PDF files. (Windows 7 OS). When editing PDFs that are 200+ pages, we are seeing pregnated pauses (that feel like lockups), slow open times and slow to print issues.
Are there any tips or tricks with regard to working with these large documents that would improve performance? You said "edit." If you are talking about actual editing, that should be done in the original and a new PDF created. Acrobat is not a very good editing tool and should only be used for minor, critical edits.
If you are talking about simply using the PDF, a lot depends on the structure of the PDF. If it is full of graphics, it will be slow. You can improve this performance by using the PDF Optimize to reduce graphic resolution and such. You may very likely have a bloated PDF that is causing the problem and optimizing the structure should help.
Be sure to work on a copy. -
[BUG] Performance Issue When Editing Large FIles
Are other people experiencing this on the latest JDevelopers (11.1.1.4.0 and the version before it) ?
People in the office have been experiencing extremely slow performance happening seemingly at random while editing Java files. We have been using JDev for almost 10 years and this has only become an issue for us recently. Typically we only use the Java editing and the database functionality in JDev.
I have always felt that the issue has been related to network traffic created by Clearcase and have never really paid attention, but a few days ago after upgrading to the latest version of JDev, for the first time I started having slowdowns that are affecting my speed of work and decided to look into it,
The main symptom is the editor hanging for an unknown reason in the middle of typing a line (even in a comment) or immediately after hitting the carriage return. All PCs in the office have 2Gig or more RAM and are well within recommended spec.
I've been experimenting for a few days to try and determine what exactly is at the root of the slowness. Among the things I have tried:
o cutting Clearcase out of the equation; not using it for the project filesystem; not connectiing to it in JDev
o Not using any features other than Java editing in JDev (no database connections)
o never using split panes for side by side editing
o downloading the light version of JDev
o Increasing speed of all pop-ups/dynamic helpers to maximum in the options
o disabling as many helpers and automations as possible in the options
None of these have helped. Momentary freezes of 3-5 seconds while editing are common. My basic test case is simply to move the cursor from one line to another and to type a simple one-line comment that takes up most of the line. I get the freeze most usually right after typing the "//" to open the comment - it happens almost 100% of the time.
I have however noticed a link to the file size/complexity.
If I perform my tests on a small/medium sized file of about 1000 lines (20-30 methods) performance is always excellent.
If I perform my test on one of our larger files 10000 lines ( more than 100 methods) the freezes while editing almost always occur.
It looks like there is some processor intensive stuff going on (which cannot be turned off via the options panel) which is taking control of the code editor and not completing in a reasonable amount of time on large Java files. I have a suspicion that it's somehow related to the gutter on the right hand side which show little red and yellow marks for run-time reports of compile errors and warnings and haven't found any way to disable it so I can check.Just a small follow-up....
It looks like the problem is happening on only a single Java file in our product! Unfortunately it happens to be the largest and most often updated file in the project.
I'm still poking around to figure out why JDev is choking consistently on this one particular file and not on any of the others. The size/complexity is not much bigger than the next largest which can be edited without problems. The problem file is a little unusual in that it contains a large number of static functions and members.
Nice little mystery to solve. -

Performance issue for Report Regions
We have an app which has as it's "Home Page" a portal-style page. The "portlets" are separate regions. Some of these regions are HTML forms, but most are report regions, invariably with PL/SQL returning the SQL query.
On our dev box this portal renders fine, in no more than 5 seconds (acceptable). On the production box a couple of the portlets go crazy, usually taking between 1-2 minutes each. I know this because I added the #TIMING# string to each region footer. The portal page has a META tag to refresh every 120 seconds.
The first thing I did to debug was to take the PL/SQL function body returning the SQL query, replace all the variables (which are just local vars, app items and page items) with hardcoded values, strip all quotes and run the "cleaned up" SQL query in SQLPlus. It executes very fast.
So my conclusion is that the problem lies with the application server (which is Oracle iAS). Is this a logical conclusion? What should my next move be to get to the bottom of this?
Even without the problem portlets the portal refresh speed varies widely, between <1 sec and >10 sec.
The application also has other pages displaying the portal regions individually. These pages (including those with the "problem portlet" queries) render ok (ie, order of 5 seconds or less). This tells me that there is an issue with having a bunch of query-based regions on the same page.
My guess is that I might need to examine the logs and/or httpd/modplsql settings of the app server. Number of simultaneous connections?
What would happen if hundreds of users used this app concurrently, navigated to the portal page and left it like that to auto-refresh every 2 minutes? Are such pages a no-no in HTMLDB?Some more information:
When I run the page in debug mode, I see the following timings for one of the problem portlets:
11.53: show report
11.54: determine column headings
11.54: parse query
60.95: binding: ":F118_BUNDLE"="F118_BUNDLE" value="1"
60.95: binding: ":P52_STMETRICS_PRODBRANCH"="P52_STMETRICS_PRODBRANCH" value="RDBMS_MAIN"
60.95: binding: ":P52_STMETRICS_PLATFORM"="P52_STMETRICS_PLATFORM" value="LINUX"
61.35: print column headings
61.35: rows loop: 15 row(s)
[report is printed here]
61.49: FORMITEM: P52_STMETRICS_PLATFORM HIDDEN
61.54: FORMITEM: P52_STMETRICS_PRODBRANCH HIDDEN
This tells me that the bulk of the time (50 seconds in this case) is eaten up in parsing the query. What is this symptomatic of?
Another problem I've just noticed. It takes about 5 seconds to open up a region for editing (Region Definition) in HTMLDB. When I click "Apply Changes" (even without editing anything) it is taking on the order of minutes for the changes to be applied to the page. Our app server was bounced just before I noticed this.
These are the params in our DAD:

Performance issue with editing classes in 2011
Maybe this is just an install issue, but....
In LV 2011, if I attempt to edit the data of an established class (i.e. it has accessors, etc) then I get the Windows 7 whirling cursor indicating that the class is updating; sometimes this takes several minutes for the changes to be applied while other times the system just hangs and I eventually have to kill LV thus creating a hideously time wasting cycle in where I once again attempt to make changes to the class, it hangs, ad infinitum. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a work around?
Cheers, Matt

MSR Consulting, LLCNo. I am saying that this is not associated with a project. A class does not have to be associated with a project. If you open a .lvclass file you will get a window that looks like a library window where, similar to the library, everything contained in the class namespace will be found.
I am running LV 2011 on a 32-bit Windows 7 machine with a dual core i5 (2.53 GHz) and 4 Gb of ram. Performance wise, I am having no issues with any other aspects of LV 2011 (strike that - it does seem to crash more than I desire). As I said in the above post, this seems to be an issue only when I am trying to change things such as names in a space other than the properties dialog box.
I suspect this might be associated with the installation, but I am not positive. I have attached two classes if you are interested in playing with them. Basically, I was only trying to change the type and name of the variable tscan in the SMPS class (I included the CPC class due to the dependency of the SMPS, but I am afraid there may be some other dependencies that I can not immediately see).
Cheers, m

Performance Issues for polling files frequently
Hi
I have around 15-16 interfaces which has to be polled every 15 mins....like they have to be real time.
Would there be any performance related issues.
Regards
RinkuRinku,
15 file adapters polling at an interval of 15 minutes should not be an issue at all.
As pointed by Sreeram, just to make sure things are as per needed make suret the your hardware being used on the XI server is Quicksized for the Load expected,

Performance issues while editing automation?
Hello,
I'm working on a video mix project in logic 8. The pieces are about 20 minutes long but there are not a huge number of tracks (8). I am about 12 minutes through and getting some serious system slowdown when editing automation. I have buffers maxed, plenty of room on HD. I am occasionally getting 'out of memory' messages. This is the first project I have used logic for and I was thrilled with it until now. What am I missing?
thanksHi,
Further to add to this issue ,this deviation is happening for the images which has the size greater than 4KB and those images which move to the lobsegment of the Blob Column.
Thanks & Regards

Performance issues for sql developer
1. Does leaving DB connection open from a SQLNavigator has any impact on the DB resources and performance?
That depends.
If you run a query or browse a table with parallel setup and leave a grid open - you could leave many processes sitting idle on the server waiting for you to fetch the records down.
But in general, 'no.'
Also, what do you mean by a 'SQLNavigator' - you mean SQL Developer, yes? -
Performance issues for iOS with high resolution.
I made an app with a resolution of 480x320 for iOS. It works quite well.
I then remade it with a resolution of 960x640. In AIR for iOS settings I set Resolution to "High".
The app looked great, however there was a noticeable drop in performance.
The app functioned the same way as the original lower resolution app. but it was lagging.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Am I doing something wrong?With my game, I had around 60fps on the 3GS, and around 50 on the iPhone 4, with the high settings. I got around 10 fps extra by using: stage.quality = StageQuality.LOW;
Air 2.6. I tried with Air 2.7, but it seems like that command can't be used there (?) -
I just ran this program here:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/dm-0604kesic/#java
but my performance when generating a cypher is on avg. 2750 ms compared to 407 ms as listed on the web page.
Can some else confirm that the output on the web page is wrong, or explain why it is right. Seems a bit high to me.
Thanks.Never mind, figured it out
