Lion Server: iOS 5 clients can't connect to Address Card Server

I have set up shared accounts on the server for Calendar and Address Book (family) sharing. Although I can add and use the Address Book shared account on OS X Lion clients, I can't get this to work on iOS 5 clients (iPhone nor iPad). I keep on getting "CardDAV account verification failed".
Calendar sharing works just fine on both OS X and iOS5 clients
Let me briefly describe my setup and observations:
Server:
Running Lion Server 10.7.2 on Mac Mini (server)
Using SSL connections with keys generated during set-up of the server
Portforwarding in router (ao) for 8008 and 8843 (iCal and Address Book)
Created  shared accounts on server for Calendar ("sharedcalendar") and Address Book ("sharedcontacts")
In the DNS server I created services in my primary zone for "_caldavs._tcp." and "_carddavs._tcp." both on port 8443
OS X Client (Calendar)
Created additional CalDAV account in preferences (user "sharedcalendar")
Left the server settings untouched (server path, port "auto" and using SSL but not Kerberos)
Created in "sharedcalendar" different calendars and reminder lists for the family members which each can access from their OS X client
This account is now set-up through Profile Manager (tried this with Address Book as well but didn't make any difference)
iOS 5 Client (Calendar)
Once tested on standalone and got this working I'm now using the Profile Manager to push the definition of the shared account to all clients
Hostname with port 8443 (default)
Left Principal URL blank since it was optional
User "shared calendar" with the appropriate password
Ticked "Use SSL"
OS X client (Address Book)
Created additional CardDAV account in preferences (user "sharedcontacts").
Left the server settings untouched (port 443 using SSL)
iOS 5 client (Address Book)
In the settings add a CardDAV account (server, user "sharedcontacts", password, description).
First error message "Cannot connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?". When I press continue I get the error "CardDAV account verification failed"
If I then save the account details still and edit the account I can access the "advanced settings". When I change to SSL I have tried port 0 (default value), 8443 (the one that's listed in the documentation) and 8843 (which is used by default if you try to set up the
account in Profile Manager). All to no avail, including Profile Manager
Observations:
Lion Server app nicely lists both Calendar and Address Book Server as active (plus Profile Manager, File Server, Web server and Wiki server)
When I access my server home page, Calendar is listed in addition to other services (Mail | Calendar | Change Password | Profile Manager) but not Address Book. Is this normal behaviour? i.e. can't Address Book entries be changed through a web interface?
Address Book on OS X client uses 443 for SSL but does not require me to define port 8443 for secure iCal or Address Book server communications
Lion Server Profile Manager specifies port 8843 as port for SSL communication. I only saw 8443 listed in documentation
The response "can't connect .." or "account verification failed" happens very quick which make me think either the verification doesn't even leave the iPad or there is something wrong in the SSL connection
Since iCal set-up works nicely using the same ports I am puzzled why it doesn't work for Address Book
Your solutions or suggestions how to investigate are most welcome,
Erik

Thanks for joining the discussion.
Although port 8443 is mosten quoted as correct port for CalDAV and CardDAV, port 8843 can be found both on Apple's website and other places:
see Technical Note 1649 to find port 8443 listed for iCal and port 8843 for Address Book
Mac OS X Lion Server for Dummies (sic) lists port 8843 on pages 236 and 238 but port 8443 in many other places
when you want to push iCal and Address Book information with Profile Manager, Profile Manager lists port 8443 for iCal but port 8843 for Address Book as default:
So I hope you understand I'm somewhat puzzled.
I did get the Address Book working for my Lion desktops with the all the necessary certificates as far as I know, just not for the iOS devices (iPhone and IpPad). iCal sharing from Lion Server works fine on both Lion and iOS devices.

  • Mountain lion 10.8.2 can not connect to windows NAS server Dell Sentinel

I recently upgraded to 10.8 OS My office is connected to a NAS server Dell Sentinel WD4000. Everything was working fine until the upgrade from 10.7 to 10.8 Now when I "connect to server" Not one of my accounts can connect. All I get is wrong password. The server connects to every computer on the network except the 10.8 The server shows up as an icon on Shared Devices.
Someone please help me. Apple has been useless.

I hope this helps.  But, Apple has confirmed a significant bug in 10.7.4 that breaks SMB.  Their support says they are working on it, but they do not know when the fix will be released.  It has broken SMB at all sites I support including my own location where Lion server has the updated version as well.  Only AFP works but not consistently.  The suggestion is to restore 10.7.3 from a backup or wait until the fix is released.  SMB does work - but only when admin authentication is used on Mac servers - don't know about Windows Servers.  I do know the client side of Mac's also are affected with SMB issues.  Good luck!

  • Can't connect to Address Book Server anymore

I'm having a problem with our mac mini's address book server.
Users are unable to add accounts to their address books and get the error message:
»Address Book couldn't discover the account settings for the CardDAV server "XY". Make sure the user name and server address are correct, then click Create.«
However, everything works perfectly fine when i'm adding the same account on the server directly, everything works perfectly fine. In this case, it works with all possible server addresses (localhost, ip, and our dyndns address). however, none of these addresses works from the clients.
all clients are in the same subnet as the server and i turned off the firewall for testing purposes.

you're right, the description is a quite confusing.
    here's another try
i have a small office network with a mac mini server, several mac clients and a speedport router which also acts as the dns server for the network. the server is used primarily as an intranet server (the whole dyndns-thing is an experiment right now).
when i add an account in the address book application of a client computer, i get the message noted in my first post. i tried connecting using the host name (xy.local) and the ip address of the server – none worked. however, when i login as a test user directly on the server and add the same account in that address book, it works normally.
another thing (and i don't know if that is related to the problem) is that since recently, browsing to xy.local in safari has been extremely slow (we're talking about 5 minutes of page load time). however, when i ping that address, it responds quite fast.
i checked the dns logs but my knowledge about dns is quite limited…

  • Lync 2013 client can't connect externally to edge server

So I have my edge server set up in the DMZ. 3 ips bound to an interface for external connectivity.
    sip.domain.org (A record)
    webconf.domain.org (A record)
    av.domain.org (A record)
_sip.tls.domain.org:443 pointing to the same IP as sip.domain.org
External Lync Clients should be using this srv record to auto-connect, correct?
I have purchased a thawte ssl cert and bound it correctly to the external interface.  Internal interface is a PKI internal CA cert. Sometimes when doing a testconnectivity from MS, it comes up stating " The certificate couldn't be validated because
SSL negotiation wasn't successful", when other times I run the test and it states that it validates the cert correctly, analyzing the cert - no problems found, etc, all looks good and then fails at "couldn't sign in Error Unknown (0x80131500)
    Error type: TLSFailureException.
Not sure where to start looking or why it shows the cert is good sometimes and others not.
Also when I launch the Lync Server Admin Console, Under Topology,  my edge server is showing Replication with a red X.  Don't know what to look for either.

    Hi jackl2001,
By default, no policies are configured to support external user access, including remote user access, federated user access, even if you have already enabled external user access
support for your organization. To control the use of external user access, you must configure one or more policies, specifying the type of external user access supported for each policy.

  • Mac10.x client can't connect to File Server on Windows2008 Failover Cluster

Installation of a cluster was made according to the document "Failover Cluster Step-by-Step Guide: Configuring a Two-Node File Server Failover Cluster " http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731844.aspx.
My Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.11 clients be able to connect to a non-cluster file server on a Windows 2008 (the File Services role) and also to old file cluster on a Windows 2003.
Why Mac clients can't connect to Windows 2008 Failover Cluster?

Are you running a firewall on the Macs. If yes does it work with out the firewall? If it works with out the firewall that means you will have to create a custom ipf rule which includes the both the physical an virtual IP addresses of your cluster.

  • Client can not connect to Server installed window server 2008 and using 8.8

    HI all!
I have a problem when Client  log in to server that installed window server 2008.It can not connect to this server even when restart and key in IP or Server name,...
I try disable Firewall of window 2008 in server machine and client can connect to server. But when i disable firewall, it's mean  i can not use Remote desktop or terminal service..
Now, how i can do in order to solve this problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Take a look at the admin guide (Page 75, 119, 159):
If you installed a firewall on the license service computer, make sure that the firewall is not set to port 30000; otherwise, the license service cannot work.
If you are using Port X, make sure that you open Port X and Port (X+1) in the firewall. For example, if you are using port 10000, make sure to also open port 10001.
The default communication port is 1143.
The default port of the SAP Business One license server is 30000 for license communication and 30001 for the license naming service

  • What is required to Exchange integration work - (Can't connect to Exchange Web Server)?

    Hi guys,
We have just 'beaten' our Lync installation until it decided to work with mobility, however the clients (IOS) complain that it "Can't connect to Exchange Web Server". Entirely possible its our own fault!
    My question is:
What exactly do I need to configure to make this work?
    DNS records,
    Firewall rules,
    etc.
    We are running:
    Exchange 2010 on-premise
    TMG 2010
    Cheers
    Dave
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
The Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad has a Meeting tab that lists meetings for the day from the Exchange calendar.
The client uses simple Exchange Autodiscover processes to determine the location of the Exchange server of the user who is signed in. The SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user is used in the attempt to discover the Exchange Web Services (EWS) endpoint.
However, if the user’s SIP URI and email address are different, the Autodiscover process will fail, the Meeting tab will be blank, and Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) voicemail in the Phone tab will not sync.
For disjointed email and SIP URIs, the Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad lets the user specify a different set of credentials for Exchange integration. For the Exchange Autodiscover process to work correctly, the necessary DNS records must be available.
To confirm that Autodiscover is working, use Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analzyer at http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com (http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/)
In addition, please also refer to this document
    Lync 2010 Integration. Hope helps.

    Thanks for any help.
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I've just done a clean install of OSX Server and added the latest MYSQL packaged installer. Afterwards I found the lock file in /private/tmp/mysql.lock
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a symbolic link so that the lock file appears to be in right place.
    e.g.
    cd /var
sudo mkdir mysql <== this assumes the directory is missing
    cd mysql
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock mysql.sock
After this msql commands should work fine, and you've not fiddled with the security settings on users/groups.

  • Error when trying to install oracle client (can't connect to X11 error)

    Hi guys,
I need help to install Oracle Client 10g. I am quite a novice so I am totally hopeless when it comes to difficult or linux-kind-of-terms.
I can't use GUI at all, so everything got to be done through putty.exe
my local pc (where the putty is, IP 192.168.8.194) -> linux red hat 4 IP 192.168.8.31 (where the oracle client should be!)
when I run the runIntaller I receieved error mentioning about DISPLAY variable haven't set yet.
I did set it trhough putty as follow
    DISPLAY=192.168.8.194:0.0
    export DISPLAY
    no luck...I still hit an error that eventho this time the error is like below;
    =============================================================================
Can't connect to X11 window server using '192.168.8.194:0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
    192.168.8.194:0.0

The DISPLAY environment variable should be set to <hostname or IP address>:<screen>, where the <screen> is usually '0.0'.
    - Make sure that client users are authorized to connect to the X Server.
OUI-10027:To enable client users to access the X Server, open an xterm, dtterm or xconsole as the user that started the session and type the following command:
    % xhost +
To test that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, run a X11 based program that comes with the native operating system such as 'xclock':
    % <full path to xclock... see below>
If you are not able to run xclock successfully, please refer to your PC-X Server or OS vendor for further assistance.
    Typical path for 'xclock': '/usr/X11R6/bin/xclock'
    ==============================================================================
When I run the xclock using GUI I can see it pop up on my screen, but when I run xclock trhough putty, I see that it just went blank...is that right because I am using putty or what?
Can you guys please help? Everyone that had this problem like find the solution real easy...I just so frustrated because this setting is just not working, and I have no idea what to check. Do I need extra library or something to install this?
Please remember that I can use GUI in my test server but I can't use any GUI at all when I am implementing this.
    Thanks thanks thanks.

    Hi-
You are right. putty is just a simple console without X11 in it. how come it didn't even cross my mind?
Thanks for the reply. I solved it by using third party software called xdeep, from what I got from internet looks like this and the software you were talking about hold the same purpose. This xdeep is pretty easy to configure and in just few seconds I can launch the installer! Gee...!
For those guys that having the same problem as me then find xdeep software from google and browse on the configure webpage. I found a step by step configuration setting from the internet too and it's real easy.

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
    export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
    XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.

  • Can't connect to X11 window server using

java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using "Ip" as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
I get the above error when I try to create an instance of the JProgressBar.
I have not been able to create a workaround.
One suggestion that I had was to use the following system command.
    System.setProperty("java.awt.headless","true");
That gave me a null pointer exception.
I also tried setting the compiler parameters to make this process headless, but it did not make any difference.
I am running this code in a Unix environment.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Generally in Unix environment the server should accept the connections from clients. Run the xhost + command on the server to which you are trying to connect and then try your application.

    Hi, Kelly
    Thanks for your kind response.
The X-server should work, when I export DISPLY to a remote X-server.
How about ImageServlet.. It seems that the ImageServlet has more advantages than X-server or XVBF
I tried to configure OC4J using ImageServlet follow UIX developer's guide. But I was not able to force OC4J to use ImageSevlet. But OC4J is stll try to find X-sever..
I modified the web.xml file for the sample application I deployed.
Is this a right configuration? What is the different

  • Can't connect to X11 window server

    hi,
I get the above error when I run a JSP.
java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
         at sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.initDisplay(Native Method)
         at sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment.(X11GraphicsEnvironment.java:54)
         at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
         at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:115)
         at java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(GraphicsEnvironment.java:53)
         at java.awt.Font.initializeFont(Font.java:259)
         at java.awt.Font.(Font.java:293)
         at com.sanderson.tallyman.util.PerformMultiFormat.get_no_of_lines(PerformMultiFormat.java:477)
The line which is throwing this error is as follows:
    new Font(strfont_name,Font.PLAIN,istrfont_size_to_int);
We are running our WebServer (Borland Application Server) in Solaris machine and calling the JSP from a windows client.
I think it is somewhere related to DISPLAY parameter of the Solaris machine and the xhost file???
    Any inputs???
    Regards

You need to connect to a X-Server, since you are using java.awt.Font
The Font implementation needs a graphical subsystem (it has something to do with Frame.addNotify, ...)
I've heard about a simple (FrameBuffer?) XServer implementation without a graphical output. Perhaps you may find some more information in the FAQ section for JAVA/JSP

  • Can't connect to X11 windows server

Hi all, I am having problems installing oracle in Fedora Core 1.
This is where i'm stuck at and im not sure what to do.
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from /tmp/OraInstall2004-11-24_09-23-44AM. Please wait ...[student@BI GCPU026 Disk1]$ Oracle Universal Installer, Version 10.1.0.3.0 Production

Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
    :0.0
    :0.0
Unable to start an interactive install session because of the following error:Can't connect to X11 window server usi ng ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable. The DISPLAY environment variable should be set to <hostname or IP ad dress>:<screen>, where the <screen> is usually '0.0'.
Depending on the Unix Shell, you can use one of the following commands as examples to set the DISPLAY environment va riable:
    - For csh: % setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
    - For sh, ksh and bash: $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0; export DISPLAY
Use the following command to see what shell is being used:
    echo $SHELL
Use the following command to view the current DISPLAY environment variable setting:
    echo $DISPLAY
    - Make sure that client users are authorized to connect to the X Server.
To enable client users to access the X Server, open an xterm, dtterm or xconsole as the user that started the sessio n and type the following command:
    % xhost +
To test that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, run a X11 based program that comes with the native o perating system such as 'xclock':
    % <full path to xclock... see below>
If you are not able to run xclock successfully, please refer to your PC-X Server or OS vendor for further assistance .
    Typical path for 'xclock': '/usr/X11R6/bin/xclock'

    The problem maybe in (Fedora):
    1. X server is running with "nolisten tcp" parameter. Check the configuration
    2. Check the settings of GDM or KDM
