32-bit Application talking to 64-Bit Oracle DB

Are there any known issues in connecting a 32bit HFM talking to a 64bit database. Both of them are sitting on two different servers and the only way they communicate is through the listener/tnsnames.
HFM version is 11.1.2.1 and DB version is Oracle 11.1.0.7

We tried it successfully and it did not result in any issues.

If the JDE schema is required, then export it from the current database you have, delete the database, install the 12.1.1 database, then create the schema in this new database and perform an import.

  • EPM 11.1.1.3 Planning Application Available on 64 BIT Red Hat 5?

    Hi
    We want to install Hyperion EPM 11.1.1.3 Planning on RedHat 5-64 Bit and Window 2003 Server 32. I downloaded Planning/Essbase/Foundation Service/FR/WA from Oracle Edelivery for Linux 64 Bit platform. Weblogic 9.2 MP 3 were downloaded as well for Linux 64 Bit.
    I have another Windows 2003 server 32 bit, we want to install EPM Architect, FDM, FR Printer Service.
    On Linux 64 bit Server, we are going to install Shared Service/Workspace web app/Planning Web Application EAS Web Application /FR Web Application /WA Web Application
    When I run installer to check the compoment, I found there are no 64 Bit Component except for Essbase and Administration Server has 32 bit or 64 Bit option.
    1. Can anyone tell me if it is a true that only Essbase and EAS support 64 bit, Shared Service/Workspace web app/Planning Web Application EAS Web Application /FR Web Application /WA Web Application only support 32 bit component.
    2. If I install Shared Service/Workspace web app/Planning Web Application EAS Web Application /FR Web Application /WA Web Application on Linux 64 Bit, Does that have any compatible problem?
    We installed Hyperion 11.1.13 Planning 32 Bit one windows 2003 64 Bit Server, it has some problems with EPMA and Planning. I can't launch classic planning applcaiton from Workspace. From 8300 port, we can use classic way to access planning application. Someone said it is startup sequence problem, but I follow up Install ation and Configuraton, It doesn't have any help. From Event viewer, It said it is because 32 bit Oracle not compatible with 64 bit system. How can I fix this problem?
    Regards
    David Wang

    Hi,
    Yes according to documentation it supports.
    But be very careful with the version of OS and softwares. Oracle will not support if the versions are not supported.
    And keep in mind that if you are installing a 32 bit application on a 64 bit OS there are bound to be so many configurations which dont appear to be that clear in the documentation provided. We had to deal with some major issues related to java configurations.
    I would recommend you to use an easier option of going with windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • 32-bit Application stops working on Windows 7 Enterprise machine after Windows is restarted

    Hello,
    We have a legacy 32-bit application that we distribute that was built with Microsoft's Visual Basic 6.0.  I have installed this application on many versions of Windows up to and including Windows 8.1 with no issues.
    Recently we provided the application to one of our end users who is running Windows 7 Enterprise on multiple laptops.  They are able to install the application and run it without issues until the machine is restarted.  After the machine is restarted
    the icon for the application changes to the standard Windows EXE icon and when they attempt to start the application they get the Windows message box:  "The version of this application is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running....".
    From the research I have done, this error would only apply to trying to run a 16-bit application or if you are trying to run a 64-bit application on a 32-bit version of Windows, neither of which is the case here.
    It also quite odd that they are able to install and run the application with no issues until Windows is restarted, and this has been verified on multiple of their machines.  The icon change is also quite odd.
    If anyone can provide any information regarding this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Solaris 9 32-bit application 256 descriptors

    Hi,
    There is a bug in Solaris, a 32-bit application running on 64-bit Solaris cannot open more than 256 descriptors. I read the article from Giri Mandalika http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/stdio_256.html. There is a solution for Solaris 10 described in that article. Is there any solution for Solaris 9? Was that solution backported to Solaris 9?
    Any hint is appreciated.
    Tomas

    Hello.
    This limitation is not a limitation of the Solaris operating system but of the libc library.
    A simple workaround could be:
    FILE *myfiles[1000];
    int i;
    // won't work if more than 256 files are open...
    for(i=0;i<1000;i++) myfiles=fopen(names[i],"w");
    for(i=0;i<1000;i++) fprintf(myfiles[i],"%u\n",i);
    Workaround - NOT TESTED:FILE *f;
    int myfiles[1000];
    int i;
    for(i=0;i<1000;i++) myfiles[i]=creat(names[i],0644);
    for(i=0;i<1000;i++)
    f=fdopen(dup(myfiles[i]),"w");
    fprintf(f,"%u\n",i);
    // fclose() will only close the handle duplicate returned by dup() !!
    fclose(f);
    -- EDIT --
    Tested on Solaris 9/Sparc:
    - You have to use "ulimit -n" to allow an application to use more than 256 file descriptors (maximum is 1024).
    - If more than 256 files are open "dup" and "dup2" will cause an SIGSEGV - obviously a bug in Solaris.
      Maybe you can use the following combination instead of using "fprintf":len=sprintf(buffer,...);
    write(file[i],buffer,len);
      I'm not sure if "write" etc. cause SIGSEGVs when more than 256 files are open.

  • Running a 32 bit app on a 64 bit server issue

    Please help! I have been trying all of the fixes on the internet and nothing seems to work. I am trying to use the Oracle OLE DB Provider to run a 32 bit application on a 64 bit server - tried on a 2008 R2 and a 2003 SP2, both fail. I have tried with Oracle 11g 11.1.0.6.0 client and the 10.2.0.4.0 client - both fail.
    It keeps installing the bin and inventory directories into the Program Files (x86) folder and I am assuming it is trying to run the 64 bit dll's instead of the 32 bit Oracle OLE DB provider DLL's. I have made a new installation and had it install into C:\ProgramFilesx86 but it still installs the bin and inventory files into C:\Program Files (x86). I have tried moving the contents and editing the registry, all I can find is that the inst_loc is pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\Inventory so I change it to the file I created and restart the computer, still get an error when trying to test using a udl file.
    Error shows: "Provider is no longer available. Ensure that the provider is installed properly."
    I have also tried unregistering the OLE DB dll's located inside C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB for oledb32.dll and oledb32r.dll. It only lets me unregister the oledb32.dll. For oledb32r.dll it says the entry point for dllregisterserver was not found. I then register the oledb32.dll file inside of C:\program files (x86)\common files\system\ole db and then restart the server. Still get the UDL error and when i try to connect the application it just say DNS is not reachable. In the tnsnames.ora file there is no reference to the Program Files (x86) directory.
    Does anyone have any idea how I can get a 32 bit application using Oracle OLE DB provider to run on a 64 bit server?
    Thank you!
    Jeff M.

  • 32 bit integer size on 64 bit processor and OS

    Although not strictly a dbx question, I think the audience here is the correct one to bounce this off of:
    I'm curious: Why are 64 bit processes compiled with the -xarch=v9 switch having a 32 bit integer size, versus having 64 bit integer size?
    Although not cast in stone, and implementation dependent, an "int was originally intended to be the "natural" word size of the processor - to use the processor's "natural" word size to improve efficiency (avoid masking, etc).".
    I know you 'force' more 64 bit use (see some of Sun's doc on this below).
    ===============
    The 64-bit Solaris operating environment is a complete 32-bit and 64-bit application and development environment supported by a 64-bit operating system. The 64-bit Solaris operating environment overcomes the limitations of the 32-bit system by supporting a 64-bit virtual address space as well as removing other existing 32-bit system limitations.
    For C, C++, and Fortran software developers, this means the following when compiling with -xarch=v9,v9a, or v9b in a Solaris 7 or Solaris 8 environment:
    Full 64-bit integer arithmetic for 64-bit applications. Though 64-bit arithmetic has been available in all Solaris 2 releases, the 64-bit implementation now uses full 64-bit machine registers for integer operations and parameter passing.
    A 64-bit virtual address space allows programs to access very large blocks of memory.
    For C and C++, the data model is "LP64" for 64-bit applications: long and pointer data types are 64-bits and the programmer needs to be aware that this change may be the cause of many 32-bit to 64-bit conversion issues. The details are in the Solaris 64-bit Developer's Guide, available on AnswerBook2. Also, the lint -errchk=longptr64 option can be used to check a C program's portability to an LP64 environment. Lint will check for assignments of pointer expressions and long integer expressions to plain (32-bit) integers, even for explicit casts.
    The Fortran programmer needs to be aware that POINTER variables in a 64-bit environment are INTEGER*8. Also, certain library routines and intrinsics will require INTEGER*8 arguments and/or return INTEGER*8 values when programs are compiled with -xarch=v9,v9a, or v9b that would otherwise require INTEGER*4.
    Be aware however that even though a program is compiled to run in a 64-bit environment, default data sizes for INTEGER, REAL, COMPLEX, and DOUBLE PRECISION do not change. That is, even though a program is compiled with -xarch=v9, default INTEGER and REAL are still INTEGER*4 and REAL*4, and so on. To use the full features of the 64-bit environment, some explicit typing of variables as INTEGER*8 and REAL*8 may be required. (See also the -xtypemap option.) Also, some 64-bit specific library routines (such as qsort(3F) and malloc64(3F)) may have to be used. For details, see the FORTRAN 77 or Fortran 95 READMEs (also viewable with the f77 or f95 compiler option: -xhelp=readme).
    A: No program is available that specifically invokes 64-bit capabilities. In order to take advantage of the 64-bit capabilities of your system running the 64-bit version of the operating environment, you need to rebuild your applications using the -xarch=v9 option of the compiler or assembler.

    I think that this was basically to keep down the headaches in porting code (and having code that will compile to both 32bit and 64bit object files). int is probably the most common type, so by keeping it at 32bits, the LP64 model has less effect on code that was originally written for 32bit platforms.
    If you want to have portable code (in terms of the sizes of integral types), then you should consider using int32_t, int64_t etc from inttypes.h. Note that this header is post-ANSI C 90, so might not be portable to old C/C++ compilers.

    Since Forms 6 was never certified on Vista, I will assume you don't care about using Oracle Support. If that's the case, getting Forms 6 to work on Win 7 would likey require similar steps as you took to getting it to work on Vista.
    At minimum, you would need to do the following:
    1. Start with Forms/Reports 6.0.8.11 (6i Release 2)
    2. Install the latest (last) patch (#17), bring the version to 6.0.8.26
    3. It may be necessary to relax or disable Windows UAC
    4. To run the executables, you have to right click on them and select Run As Administrator in order for them to work properly.
    THE ABOVE IS NOT A SUPPORTED CONFIGURATION
    Forms 6.x was desupported years ago. If you have not already begun to do so, you should probably be working on a migration plan in order to get you to a supported version. The latest version is 11.1.1.3, so you are far behind. All versions newer than 6.x are entirely web based. This means that you will no longer be able to use the Forms runtime on the client machines. Client machines will require an Oracle certified browser and JRE in order to run Forms. Certification information for Fusion Middleware 11 (includes Forms 11) can be found here:

    Hi,
    It seems there is a 32 bit client and a 64 bit client.
    We have a 64 bit operating system. (MS Windows 2008 SERVER).
    Is it correct theses are the only2 versions of the client a 32bit client and a 64 bit client and the operating system is irrelevant.
    i.e. no 32 bit client for 32 bit operating system operating and 32 bit client for 64 bit operating system?

  • Running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client installed

    I have seen many postings on this issue but none of the suggested solutions have helped me.
    I am running visual studio 2010 professional with SP1 on windows 7 64 bit machine. When I try to run a web service locally and call it with SoapUI, I get the following error message during OracleConnection.Open().
    Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
    I have tried setting up the build configuration and the project settings to target 32 bit but that has not helped. I have also tried removing the reference to System.Data.OracleClient that shows being under Program Files (x86) and add a new reference to the dll under GAC_64. That too did not work.
    I only have the 64 bit client installed on my machine.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    1. Visual Studio any version is 32 bit ONLY irrespective of hardware or OS bits.  So to DEVELOP with Oracle Client you MUST install 32 bit Oracle ODAC components. Task manager will show devenv.exe *32 (to confirm 32 bit Visual Studio application).
    2. You can run your web application inside IIS/IIS Express in your PC which independently can be either 32bit or 64bit.  If it is 64 bit, you MUST also install 64 bit Oracle ODAC components which means you'll have to install both 32bit and 64bit in your 64 bit Win7 running on 64bit hardware.
    3. In Visual Studio if you compile with "AnyCPU" as target, the resultant binaries (Web/NonWeb) can be both 32bit or 64bit.  So if target PC is "AnyCPU" or "x64", you MUST install Oracle ODAC 64 bit in the target OS if that target OS is 64bit.  You don't have to install 32bit ODAC in the target PC.
    4. One more catch to above scenario is the target OS could be 64bit simulated OS on a 32bit hardware. In such case you MUST install both 32bit and 64bit ODAC components.
    So while you ask your network team to download ODP.NET/ODAC Components make sure you ask them to download both 32bit and 64bit. Total nearly 600MB.
    Hope this helps many people out there.

  • Error message while installing "FDM Web Application" on windows 64-bit

    I am unable to install "FDM Web Application" on a 64-bit windows platform. I have an error message indicating that 64-bit components for HFM & EPMA cannot co-exist with 32-bit components for HSF/FDM. Is there a way to install it? From the packages I downloaded, I have installed EPMA 64-bit. So I presume I'll have to uninstall EPMA 64-bit and re-install EPMA 32-bit?
    OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP2
    Oracle WebLogic 9.2 MP3 32-bit
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
    What version are you trying to install, as the latest release 11.1.1.3 should now support it.
    In the 11.1.1.3 Readme - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/readme/epm_1111300_readme.html
    FDM now provides support for 32-bit binaries in a 64-bit environment. (though that was from version 11.1.1.1)
    Though saying that FDM can only run in IIS32bit mode, if you have installed EPMA 64bit it will have set IIS to 64 bit, so uninstall 64bit and use 32bit.
    FDM supports 64-bit servers running in 32-bit emulation mode only. Because IIS cannot run under 32-bit and 64-bit mode simultaneously on the same server, Financial Management and FDM Web components cannot be deployed on the same 64-bit server. All other components can be deployed together.
    Cheers

    You do not need to do anything in VS.  You do need to configure both tnsnames.ora files, because the drivers do not share any data.

    2. Verify plans against 32 bit and 64 bit databases.
