32bit games in fullscreen?

hey!
i am programming my own games in blitzmax, which is 32bit and therefore i installed a 32bit chroot. everything runs fine and i can compile and run my games. BUT only in windowed mode. if i try to run them in fullscreen mode i will get a black screen and the game stops running.
i think this is not a blitzmax issue so i post it here. do i need a special lib to run 32bit opengl games in fullscreen mode?

ok here is the debug message i receive if i start a 32bit game in fullscreen mode (windowed mode runs fine!):
bash-3.2$ ./test.debug

  • What do I need to make 32bit games play on x86-64 with intel gm965?

I have been trying to get a bunch of 32bit games to play on x86-64 with no luck.
Ive tried quake4, prey, and now doom3 and all seem to have the same issues. They start to work and the screen goes black, then it just goes right back to the desktop.
I have installed the entire lib32 group, and still no luck.  I even tried install lib32-intel-dri from aur but still no luck.
Do I still use lib32-nvidia-utils with an intel chipset, because thats what gets installed by default when i install the lib32 group?
Here is the output from doom3 (quake4, and prey had a very similar output where they all said idRenderSystem::Shutdown() but I already removed the packages out of frustration so I dont have the outputs from them, Im pretty sure its probably the same exact problem with all of them though)

Dump lib32, get a 32-bit chroot, and run with schroot -p "your game"
Within your chroot you'd need to have the intel drivers installed in a version exactly matching your main system's. It takes a bit more HD space (less than 1 GB), but you get a much easier system since you're using the packages maintained in the repos by devs/TUs instead of lib32 packages maintained (primarily) by volunteers for their own specific system.

  • Arch 64bit and 32bit games under wine

    Hi there,
I am using an x86_64bit version of arch linux and have tried to use Civilization IV and Warcraft III with wine. But i have no usable Framerates. I have tried a lot of issues from Google Searches and from this forum but i cannot handle this problem. My first idea was, that my drivers are not installed correctly. But programs like glxinfo and glxgears says that there is hardware rendering enabled and compiz also works fine. After some researches today i think to have a new idea for my problem.
First i need to say, that i have an Thinkpad T400 with onborad graphics Intel HD4500 or so on. On Ubuntu with wine there were no problems in using Civ IV and Warcraft III, but under Arch Linux i cannot get it to work correctly. The Ubuntu was also an 64bit version.
Is it possible that wine need 32bit libaries for the graphics driver because of the 32bit games? I have only installed the normal pacman packages for my system, which only compile the drivers for 64bit. If this can fix fix the problem. How can I install 32bit and 64 bit drivers on one system?
I am relativly new to Arch Linux, so pls tell me the right commands if you need mor informations. And thank you for your issues.

This is almost definitely the problem. First, add the new [multilib] repo (see the news page for how to do this). Then run pacman -Syu lib32-intel-dri (assuming you are using the 64-bit intel-dri. otherwise you may have to build something from the AUR).

  • Cant run games in fullscreen, MSI gt70

THis is so strange, this happens only on few games
I run a game, but it closes down and shows desktop, it does not shut down, the icon in bottom bar is stil there, so when I press back that icon, the game window appears only for 1 second and minimizes again itself to desktop
How to fix this stupid bug?

It's about these games then. I'd contact manufacturers (if they;re on Steam, contact them). Try other games (newer) to see if they have problems too.
Try running in "compatibility mode" maybe helps. If not, set game to be in windowed mode, then once working (hopefully) press Ctrl+Enter *or Shift+Enter* and it should enable fullscreen.

  • 11.3 Firefox - Strong Blur on FB's flash game

FlashPlayer 11.3 Plugin since at least build 257 when used on Firefox (12+) produces some very bad drag'n'drop scrolling on the FB game Battle Pirates. Sluggish, high-CPU, blurred.
I've made a video showing the problem:
    https://vimeo.com/46471851
    Video password: flash113
Download the video to see it clearly.
Notes: The problem can't be seem when running the game in Fullscreen, or when using IE ActiveX FlashPlayer. In Opera, it is slow to scroll, but not blurred.
Up to 11.2 it looks ok in Firefox.
    PS.: OS is Win7 x64, 32bit browsers

Thanks for the tip on how to disable the protected mode.
It fixed the blur, but the performance of dragging the game map is still very poor.
Toggling the Hw Accel don't have effects (maybe because the game don't use it?). Same when disabling FF's hw accel.
What exact info you need? Here's some:
    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 960T Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series  (5770)

  • Slow Gaming in Fullscreen mode

    I have a MacBook Pro Early 2011.
    Specs:
    ATI 6750m
    OS X Lion 10.7.3
I am having some issue regarding playing games in Fullscreen mode. I recently purchased Batman and Trine/(2).
Problem is when I play in Fullscreen mode, gameplay is horrible. Very choppy.
If I play on Window mode, gameplay is fantastic.
I also tried to use external monitor. Same issue.
Playing in bootcamp either in fullscreen or window is great.
    Anyone experiencing this issue?
I want to play on fullscreen mode.
    Please help.

    Regarding the alpha thing: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=406&thread=535269&tstart=15&trange=15
And regarding the scale thing you can use:
    Graphics.drawImage(Image img, int dx1, int dy1, int dx2, int dy2, int sx1, int sy1, int sx2, int sy2, ImageObserver observer)
"Draws as much of the specified area of the specified image as is currently available, scaling it on the fly to fit inside the specified area of the destination drawable surface."

  • Aspect ratio for old full screen games, advice sought on buying new monitor

    Hi.
I'm thinking of buying a ThinkVision LT2252p to replace the old monitor my employer threw out because I've found the old one doesn't offer scaling of the aspect ratio meaning that my golden oldie full-screen-only PC games are all stretched out of shape to fit the entire monitor.
With the LT2252p, will a 1280 × 960 desktop (or a 1024 × 768 fullscreen game...) appear on the monitor with black bars at either side or with a black border all around? (I'm hoping that's what is meant by 'Same Aspect Ratio with input signal'.) Either way is good, just so long as a circle looks like a circle and not an oval.
If it's the case that I'm behind the times and the LT2252p is getting a bit long in the tooth, what would be a suitable alternative for a graphics card with VGA and DVI only?
    Thanks very much,
    Dave

Literally using Xmonad for the first time and I experienced some game issues with fullscreen. Specifically when running CS:GO I had a problem where the resolution was native to my monitor (1920x1080) it was running windowed and I couldn't find a way to resize it unless moving it to a blank workspace (so other windows don't infere with the mouse hook) and your then able to drag the window by xmonad commands:
    mod-button1
Set the window to floating mode and move by dragging
    mod-button2
Raise the window to the top of the stack
    mod-button3
Set the window to floating mode and resize by dragging

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the linux native games on steam use the concept of '-windowed' by default.

  • KDE Fullscreen

    Hi.
I'm having some problems with KDE and fullscreen apps. For example, while switching a flash movie to fullscreen it gets really slow.
Everything started today. I was playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (L) on Wine, and suddenly (I didn't do anything weird) it started to slowdown. This happened during the game, not in the menu screen.
I restarted the game, and this time the game started slow (not the menu) but after quitting the game the menu screen was also slow.
Now everytime I start the game EVERYTHING is slow from the beginning, both the menu screen and the game itself.
I tried another games (Devil May Cry 4 is now a PAIN) and same result.
After this, fullscreen flash is also slow.
This doesn't happen on another desktop environments such as OpenBox. Neither happens if I disable the kwin effects before playing.
But I don't know what happened... I used to play games on fullscreen with Kwin effects on and they used to work very well. I didn't change any configuration, no -Syu, nothing at all. It just... happened.
    Thanks to all.

Just like the way it came, it went away: by doing nothing at all.
    Fixed... =/

  • AS3+PHP Game Development Speed

    Dear All,
I'm an As2 game developer but my new prj need to done with as3.So one thing that I want to make sure is
" Will the game speed slow if I place the contents and imgaes into the stage as in AS2 ?"
As I planned to use OOP class. And confused that all those mcs should be place directly into timeline or should attach from as files?
    Thanks in advance!

    It depends.
If there are moments in your game were 50+ objects are getting animated, faded etc. on stage and your game runs fullscreen and uses bitmaps it certainly will slow down if you put all things on the timeline.
Then you could use something like the copyPixels method (google it) to speed things up or even go further and use a framework like flixel

  • Expanding MLB games´ screen to watch it in a bigger size

    Hey guys,
I´m trying to find a solution to this frustrating issue with no success. So I thought asking for your help would be of extremely good sense...
I´m an MLB.TV subscriber. I watch baseball games through my computer using a broadband connection and an embedded windows media player window.
The thing is, the windows media player technology available for my mac (10.3.9) doesn´t allow me to expand the player so I can watch the game in fullscreen, or double the size. I already tried in Safari, Camino and Firefox, but in none of them I have an option to expand the window so I can watch it in fullscreen. There are no links similars to those available to the windows version of the player, where people get to choose which screen size they want to watch the game.
So, my question is if anybody know a way to expand the window so I can see the game in a bigger screen??
    Thanks a lot,
    Paulo
    iBook G4 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    ali,
thanks. I did just that yesterday. But:
1)it seems my G4 doesn´t have enough RAM to display a high quality streaming. Quicktime freezes, the screen blanks...
2)QT plays the streaming video just for 5:00 or as long as the play bar (above the play button) keeps rolling. When it gets to the end, it automatically stops the streaming.
So I´m affraid I´ll have to stick with the worst solution, which is WMP. That is, until I buy an Intel mac.
    Thanks anyway,
    Paulo

  • Skype keeps tabbing me out of games.

When i am playing games in fullscreen and a person joins or leaves the call i get tabbed out. I've seen MANY threads about this issue and several are years old. Still havent seen any skype dev answering or doing anything about this problem. Whats up with that?

I and everyone I know and has ever known has the same issue. It's so goddamn annoying. Today I played on my hardcore Diablo 3 character when my mate hung up our skype call. I was in the middle of a difficult fight when this happened and of course my Skype tabs out - and I die... For those of you who don't know, playing Diablo 3 hardcore mode means that when you die once with your character, he's gone. And this is a common problem and it happens everytime someone gets added to the call as well. This basically means that you can't play games on your computer when you use Skype. I personally thought that Skype aimed towards being a suitable option for gamers but this is clearly a step in the other direction.
After what happened today I am seriously starting to lose my mind and seeing that you guys are not even answering questions in your own forums might do it.
    Regards

  • Sychronization in network game

i want to write a simple game which would have multiplayer mode over network.
(maybe lan or internet) so i have many questions...
how to write network multi-player game? without serious lagging (not due to network) but a lots of data to transfer?
how to transfer data? multi-unicast/multicast? what model would be better? server-client?
how to ensure fluency in the game?
what technique can i apply to make the game running more smooth?
    any idea?

Several quick tips for adherance to sound software enginering techniques for any type of multiplayer game design:
    1) depending on the complexity of your project I'd devote at least 10% of your total development time in the design. The better your design, strong oo, data coupling issues, thread manager, bufferStrategy... the easier it will be to actually finish the game. 98% of all games started never get finished. This means having all of your Network communciations in one class or subclassing out extra features that might not be needed for your based network messaging system.
    2. Always thread your communications with higher level priority then your draw method. I've found that setting my network thread to normal and my draw thread to low priority yields far less lag then having them both set to normal priority. The reason for doing this should be evident. Messages are much more important then repainting the display as far as multiplayer games are concerned.
    3. create any new 2d game in Fullscreen Mode and use a bufferStrategy that allows you to flip between offscreen buffers. This will speed up any application written in java tremendously. Repress the repaint call that is normally triggered by the awt. You will be designing your own painting alogrithm so having repaint still active will only slow things down.
    4. Create a separate physics thread from the paint thread. These 2 things need to be separated in order to create fluency in your game. Depending on your actual game desing the physics thread will be responsible for moving things around in your world and handling most of the game communication with other players. The paint thread should only be responsible for drawing the current state of the world. This is probably obvious to most without being said but I've seen a lot of people make this mistake in their initial designs and they updated their game objects just before or after each repaint..
    5. My last point addresses your network traffic issues. There are a lot of techniques out there that can improve your data transfer rate. For example a technique called deadreckoning is often used to reduce the amount of network traffic by 90% or more. Deadreckoning, simply stated, estimates what every other persons objects will be in the physical world since the last message you received. If plausable for your game idea you could send routinue messages to each other player in the game world every 1/2 sec or second and between message communication have your physics thread estimate changes in the world until you receive the next message. Then verify that your estimate were correct/incorrect and reset them if needed.
Make sure you are only sending data on objects whos modes have changed. If nothing has changed with an object then its data doesn't need to be sent to the other players.
Hope this helps. you were rather vague about your development so it really isn't possible to suggest one protocal for your network over any other protocal.

  • Wine and KDE hotkeys

I LIKE the KDE shortcuts so I don't want to permanently disable them.  I would like them to be disabled whenever I run games in fullscreen under wine.  For instance:  Ctrl-F2 switches to desktop 2 which is great...  Accept when I'm playing Diablo II.  Can anyone think of any creative way to have shortcuts toggled on and off as I run wine?

simongmzlj wrote:You could start wine games in another xserver...
Very cool idea!  Google found me this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … b&t=634067
This is way simpler than I thought it'd be.  Thanks.

  • Full screen gaming

For some reason when I am playing games in fullscreen mode a random frame rate drop will occur. A typical scenario from world of warcraft is as follows.
I am in a zone of the game levelling where the graphics are not too demanding. I am getting a smooth 60 fps that I believe to be optimum for this game. I walk into a cave system that theoretically should be even less of a graphical strain due to the lack of detail displayed on screen. I clarified this by temporarily disabling v sync to check my frame rate which was in the 200s. I turn vsync on and complete the task in the cave. However when I leave the cave my frame rate drops to 30 for no good reason. Keep in mind here that I was previously experiencing a very comfortable 60 fps outside of the cave previously.
My first thought was that my laptop was hot, however the thing was the same temperature it is when using safari. Next I suspected that the graphics cards had switched given that I had gone in to a cave that could have used the intel 4000. However after repeating the scenario with the power saving option disabled the issue still persisted.
There are two ways I have found to prevent this from happening. The first is to disable vsync. While this indeed prevents the unexplainable frame rate drop, the problem is replaced by excessive screen tearing that is truly ugly. The second and more acceptable solution is to play the game in windowed mode at the largest possible expansion I can get it to. Logically I expected windowed(fullscreen) to solve the issue but sadly this changed nothing.
Lastly, I have also found some truly bizarre temporary fixes for this problem. When my frame rate drops, by simply going in and out of mission control the frame rate is restored to 60. Can some one please explain to me how that makes any sense at all! I mean that, if this issue can't be resolved at least explain why going in and out of an application somehow fixes this issue.
I would have posted this on blizzard's site but I believe this to be an issue with the os as a whole as I get problems such as this with left 4 dead and dungeon defenders as well.

Have you updated to 10.8.4 perhaps that will fix the issue.
You might want to also check and report to Blizzard about this issue as well, as they can reproduce the issue and see what is causing it, likely can tell Apple about it so they can fix it.
We can send a bug report, but it's going to lack a lot of details they require
