34405A

I have a Labview program that used to use a 34401A GPIB DMM; I would like to switch to a 34405A DMM.
I downloaded the driver from the NI website, but even the sample code does not work for me. When I click refresh to find the Visa resource name, it finds the device, but when I try to run it, I get error -1073807264 coming out of my initialization box. When I look in the box, I get the error out of the very first Visa statement, Visa Open. Somewhere there is a communication problem that I do not know how to fix.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help

The LabVIEW Help contains a list of VISA error codes.  The description of Error code −1073807264 reads "The interface associated with this session is not currently the controller in charge."  To check if your GPIB device is the controller in charge, open Measurement and Automation Explorer and select your GPIB device under devices and interfaces.  In the GPIB Interface Properties, under General Settings, make certain that the System Controller checkbox is checked.

  • Need more info for the ag34405 DMM VI's

    Hi !
I'm working with the Agilent 34405a multimeter and made a little VI for data-logging. The problem is, I want to choose between 4.5 & 5.5 resolution and the is no litterature about it. I'm using the NI drivers and VI's made for this application. There is a VI named "Configure measurement.vi" in which you could perhaps select the resolution (as the default value is 0.0001, that would be for 5.5 digits I think). I already tried to change the value from 0.0001 to 0.001 but the instrument still use the 5.5 digit measurement method.
Does somebody also know if there is more documentation as the contextual help of each VI made for the ag34405a DMM (there are more or less only default values explained, but I would need more...)?
I've attached my VI if this could help to solve this issue. Am working with LabView 8.20.
In advance, thanks for your help !

    Yves,
One of the things that is great about instrument drivers is the context help on each of the controls. You can turn the context help on with Ctrl+H and then hover you mouse cursor over the control. If you open "Configure Measurement.vi" and look at the help for the absolute resolution control you'll see a good description that includes:
    Notes:
    (1) The instrument driver ignores this parameter if the Range parameter is set to AG34405A_VAL_AUTO_RANGE_ON (-1) .
If you look at the help of the Range parameter you'll find see a similar discription with details and the following:
    Defined Values:
    AG34405A_VAL_AUTO_RANGE_OFF (-2)   (-2.0)  - Auto-Range Off
    AG34405A_VAL_AUTO_RANGE_ON (-1)    (-1.0)  - Auto-Range On
Based on this, can you try setting the auto-range to -2 and specifying the absoulte resolution?

  • VISA resource error in TestStand

    Hi all,
I have a vi to operate Agilent 34405A DMM.
The vi is called by TestStand sequence,it always work fine.
Suddenly it show me an error such as "Insufficient system resources to perform necessary memory allocation,-1078807800"
Then I restart my PC and DMM, It works well again.
I want to know why?Any math to fix it regardless it is indeterminism.

    paulbin,
that error indicates some kind of memory leak in your application.
Please make sure the all references are closed properly during runtime.
You can observe this during runtime by watching the meroyallocation in
the task manager (or performance found in control panel >>
    control).
    Possible solutions:
Find the leak and free all resources after each call. You can give a
try a change in the loading and unloading options of your LV-step

    hope this helps,

  • USB or GPIB LabVIEW Interface

I have a question about making an interface from a computer to some instrument using LabVIEW with a USB or GPIB connection. Before I run the program, I must select the instrument from the resource name control. I run the program a couple of times and if I'm going to select the instrument again, the instrument appears to repeats itself and it shows up an strange icon. Can anyone explain to me why does this happens? Thank you.

Hello Dennis, I hope you are doing well. I understood what you said about having an existing session opened with the instrument. The problem is that in my program, I need to have a while loop to measure multiple readings and average them inside the program. If I leave the initialize and close VI of the the meter inside of the while loop, the instrument with reset itself each time the while loops finishes its run. For that reason, I need to leave the initialize and close VI outside of the while loop. Because of this (I think) is that when I stop the program the session between the instrument and the LabVIEW is not closed and when I run it again it opens a new session. Is there a way to fix this? I included an example of my program in this message. If you are missing the functions of the instrument and you want to see them, it's an Agilent 34405A Digital Multimeter. Thank you.

  • Not able to get resource names on the front panel

    Hi,
I tried communicating with Agilent DMM (34405A) with USB interface using Labview 8.5. I have installed Agileni IO Libraries Suite 14.2 and NI Visa 4.2. I have downloaded and installed Labview drivers for Agilent 34405A. The instrument is visible in Agilent Visa Assistant and also in NI MAX. But the problem is that, the resource name doesnot appear on the front panel. I have enabled tulip passport.

    Hi Vijay,
The Goal Diagram Statuses are calculated for the latest date of the underlying PAS model. If you are not seing any status in the Goal Diagram (and the properties are set like Bob mentions in his post above), you might want to check if you have values in PAS for the date that is set as latest. If this is not the date for which you want to see your scorecard, you can change it directly in PAS.
You can force the application to re-calculate the Goal Diagram Statuses by going to the Admin Interface and save again the settings for any KPI in the respective context. This simple step deletes the existing statuses and forces the application to re-calculate them the next time you enter the end-user interface.
If you have data for the PAS model latest date, and you performed the step above to force the application to re-calculate the statuses, and still they are not showing, you should then create a message in the SAP ServiceMarketplace.
    Best regards,
    Ricardo
