3D Corner Pin w/ Precomps

Hi everyone,
I've been using Dan's expression for getting the corner pin in 3D. But it's getting tough with the following setup:
Main Comp
Camera
Precomp
Camera (pick whipped position and POI with main comp camera and with the same settings)
3D Null
3D Null
3D Null
3D Null
Solid w/ Corner Pin (using Dan's expression w/ nulls)
It all works perfect when:
Both the main comp and precomp are of the same dimension
The precomp's position stays centered
Now I can simply fix the first by calculating the offset and adding this to the expression, but the second is the problem. The calculation doesn't work, because of z-space. And by offsetting the toComp (toComp( [0,0,1500] )) it's hard to get right and leaves an apparent offset.
Any ideas for getting it spot on?

Yes it is. Knew I forgot to mention something

  • Mocha Corner Pin Data Changing Scale of Solid Layers (CS6)

Hi, im new to the adobe forums (not after effects though) and im having some trouble with Mocha tracking corner pin data. I have been practicing this sub-surface skin effect from Iron Man 3 that Video Copilot made a tutorial on, but im having some problems. The first time i did it, everything went fine. I got the effect the way I wanted it and it looked amazing. The second time, things began to go wrong. I had all my footage elements in the correct place and pre-composed. I had tracked out everything in Mocha previous to creating the effect. I selected the correct corner pin data type (the one that does not support motion blur) and copied to clipboard. I pasted it onto the composition with all the effects footage and... it got about 3 times smaller. Ive tried to do this many times since then and it keeps happening. Ive resorted to using a null object when this happens, but i want to know what im doing wrong. Ive looked all over the web and someone has probably posted a fix somewhere, but im tired of looking. Please, if you know whats going on, reply.
    Thanks Again,
    DaKernel
    CS6 of course

I took some photos of a simpler version of whats going on.
Just in AE with my footage.
    About to track in mocha.
Tracked in mocha (only tracked half because i didnt want to wait).
Adding a solid to paste my corner pin data to.
Masked it to where I wanted it.
Selected the type of data I wanted.
    Copy to clipboard.
    Paste.
Great... the insert image thing grayed out.
Going to have to post the last pic separately.

  • Similar to Shakes corner pin?

    Hello Everyone
Im trying to figure the best way to do a somewhat simple thing.
I have a shot of a car and I would like to place text on its side and have it match the car's movement (there isn't a lot of movement and its a very short clip)
Can anyone recommend the best way to go at it, and is there a tool in motion that resembles Shakes corner pin so that I can match the perspective properly.
Im assuming I should do an analyse motion to the car clip followed by a match move to the text file, but i must be doing something wrong cause for such a simple short movement its not working at all.
    Thanks for your advice.

Part of the match move behavior is the corner pin option. It requires 4 tracking markers. Based on your description you should be able to do it with 2 to account for scale and rotation.

  • Corner pin is all messed up

In CS3, corner pin isn't working right. If I use the Adobe corner pin, the video corners don't follow the cross-hairs at all. I can put the 4 corner pins just where I want them, but the video itself isn't anywhere close to where it's supposed to be. Sometimes it will go to the right spot when I render the effect, but sometimes it plays back jumping back and forth between the correct position and someplace else.
If I try to use Red Giant corner pin, the video will not follow the crosshairs as I drag them, but it usually renders out to the correct spot. But if I try to add another corner pin to the same segment, the first corner pin video  jumps way out of position again--sometimes covering the area that I need to see to add corner pin to the next video.
It's taking forever to try to get things matched up this way. I've got a quad core system, XP Home, less than a year old, so it should be a question of having enough horsepower to do this. What could be causing the problem?

A bug.  I see the same problem in CS3.   Good news is i tried it in CS4 and it is fixed.
In CS3 the controls for corner pin are smurfed and dont follow the corners.

  • Perspective corner pin and adjustment layers

    Hi,
I am sure this is and easy one for all you more expereinced guys out there... I am trying to adjust a piece of footage that has a very blown out window in it, I was thinking I can simply motion track the window using the perspective corner pin tool, then apply the tracking data on to an adjustment layer that has the color adjustments I require. However as soon as I apply the tracking data the adjustment layer will shrink down a copy of the layer underneith into the tracked shape and turn everything else outside of it black. What s the right approach? Many thanks in advance!

That's what it does - any track produces coordinates relative to the source footage dimensions. Not sure where you are having problems, so let me try to recap this step for step.
    Create a comp
    Add footage
    Create a comp sized solid
    Do a corner pin track
Apply the track to the solid
    Select solid
Do layer --> pre-compose, choose to move all attributes
    Go back to source comp
Turn on adjustment layer switch on pre-comped layer
    Add whatever effects you want
The effects will now only appear inside the tracked area as it effectively acts as a matte for them by ways of being an adjustment layer.

  • Changing a single value across a set + corner pin stabilization

a few questions that have been hounding me...
is it possible to change a single variable X across a set of keyframes while still retaining each frames Y value?...when I select all and change the X and hit enter, the Y is also changed for every keyframe.
can mocha export the X or Y translation value exclusively like the AE tracker?
how do you use the mocha corner pin data to stabilize a shot?  (there are like a hundred tutorials on replacing billboards, but only a few on the intricacies of stabilization...)
my appreciation if you can enlighten me.

    > is it possible to change a single variable X across a set of keyframes
while still retaining each frames Y value?...when I select all and
change the X and hit enter, the Y is also changed for every keyframe.
There are a few examples for doing exactly that on this page.
Look for the section that begins with "If you want to write an expression that keeps the y value of an animation of Position but fixes the x value at 9, you would use the following..."
See this page for tutorials that show how to use mocha to stabilize a shot. That page and many more resources for mocha are linked to from here.

  • Sizing issue when pasting corner pin data from mocha ae onto a solid layer. Please help!!

When I bring in my corner pin tracking data from mocha ae and paste it onto a solid layer that I created, it sizes the layer to the corner pins, but I want it to stay the whole size of the screen. I'm following a tutorial at the address http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/sub_surface_skin/   and there is no mention of this problem in the tutorial. I am following the tutorial exactly, and using the latest version of After Effects. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Distort vs Corner Pin Effect

In FCP, where can I find an alternative for the Corner Pin Effect in Adobe Premiere & After Effects ?
At Creative Cow I found that the Distort Tool is the alternative, but that's not true !
The Distort Tool bends the diagonals of the image. The Corner Pin Effect keep them straight.
In Motion it is possible (Adjust Four Corner - Tab) , but how can I do this in FCP ?
I post a trial at Picasa (i hope it works - is it not possible to add an attachement at this forum)
    http://picasaweb.google.com/109074614367215343138/CornerPinEffect?feat=directlin k
    Greetz,
    Marnik

FCP is not an compositing software it is part of a package, which also includes Motion.
You say it works in Motion.
Well then: Select the clip in FCP. Right click. select Send to Motion.
In Motion do the four corner pin. File > Save. Revert to FCP. Voila. There's your clip corner pinned...
(Yes a workaround, but a workable workaround I guess).

  • Four Corner Pin move offscreen?

I'm trying to use a four-corner pin on some text that I'd like to stick on a wall as the camera pans along the wall. Here's my problem: I'd like to have the text move offscreen with the part of the wall it's pinned to. But when I set my pins and hit "analyze," it only gets to the point where the first pin goes off screen, then the four-corner pin move stops, and my wall continues to move with the text stuck at the edge of the screen.
Is there any way for a four-corner pin on a moving shot to move the text offscreen with the thing it's pinned to?

    This might clarify things:
Imagine you're walking along a sidewalk with a wall on your left. I want to stick posters on that wall, and have them move off screen as you walk by. Because the shot isn't perpendicular to the wall, a single-point match move won't work. I need the corners of the posters to stick to the wall, and move/distort the poster image properly.

  • Corner pin question

    Hi guys,
Am doing some corner pinning and cant remember something that came in real handy....
What is the cheat to make the transform tool in the corner pin node rescale to the size of the image?
At teh moment I am trying to skew in a multiplane but because the image is so rescaled it is tiny and the corner pin tool is massive in comparison making it hard to be accurate.
Am sure i used a tip once where you put in two corner pins and do some kind of invert or something to make it work real nice...
    Anyone know this tip?

Assuming that you are working with CornerPin1,
create a new node called CornerPin2 that is not connected to anything.
Back in CornerPin1, create a Local Variable named "scale".
For now set it to something like 4. You can adjust this later.
For each corner parameter of CornerPin1 change its value like this:
    Replace x0 with CornerPin2.x0 * scale
    Replace y0 with CornerPin2.y0 * scale
    Replace x1 with CornerPin2.x1 * scale
    etc.
Now you can load CornerPin1 in the Viewer,
and load CornerPin2 in the Parameters tab.
Adjust CornerPin2 while you look at CornerPin1

  • Corner pin tracking

I have a collection of animations that I bought from 12 Inch Design a couple years ago. They include corner pin tracking data for AE (which I don't own).
I think the answer to this question is "no," but it seems to be the easiest path to what I'm trying to accomplish, so I'll ask it anyway:
Is there way to translate AE corner pin tracking info into Motion 3?
Assuming the answer is "no," please let me continue. . .
These animations I'm working with include things like picture frames and tv screens that zoom from far away to close up . . .just like Motion would do with "cameras". They also include alpha channels where you should place the image that should be "pinned" along with the animation.
Using the tracking behaviors, I've found that I can get Motion to do an excellent job of 4 corner pinning if the animation is fairly simple . . .such as a picture frame which is at a distance and then zooms in closer (and you can see the entire frame during the entire animation).
I'm having troubles with more complex motions though. For example, a tv monitor that is spinning in 3D, where the "camera" comes from behind the monitor and swirls around to the front . . .or a book that opens up while the "camera" is moving toward the book (thus, during the first part of the animation the "pinned" image is not seen at all, and as the "pinned" image comes into view it is slowly revealed, so, in addition to needing follow the motion of the book, the image also needs to be cropped).
Yes, I AM trying to avoid laborious key framing. Is there a workflow or methods I'm not thinking of (and aren't discussed in the "Motion Supplemental" document)?
Just trying to save myself some unnecessary work . . .
    Thanks!

I should've been more specific. Yes, I'm using the Adjust Four Corners tool as discussed on p. 238 of the Motion manual. It appears to me that this not only resizes the clip, it also adjusts the perspective for a 3-D effect.
    I'm doing the following:
    1) Layer 1 is the animation I want to follow
    2) Layer 2 is the clip that will follow the movement of Layer 1
    3) Select the clip in Layer 2 and place the playhead where it should begin following Layer 1.
    4) Click Record and, using the Adjust Four Corners tool, adjust the clip in Layer 2.
    5) Move ahead 1 or 2 frames and adjust the corners as needed, continuing until the full path is completed.
It's slow, but I figure that once I have the path defined, I can set this up as a template and use the Replace Media function to drop in whatever clip I want to follow the defined path.
If there's a quicker, easier way to do this, I'm all ears.

  • Corner pin displays

I have some 3rd party animated displays that use AE's corner pin tracking information so video clips can track the movement of the displays. Is there some way for me to get Motion to follow this tracking information?
I know that I can use the Select/Transform tool and painstakingly record keyframes to replicate this, but I'm hoping I can find some way to get Motion to follow the corner pin tracking info instead.
Any brilliant ideas (other than buying After Effects)?
    Thanks!

  • How do you track 4 coner pins of a composition 4 corner pins

How do you track 4 coner pins of a composition 4 corner pins
    Hi guys.
Can you watch my screencast and help me with it?
    http://youtu.be/WbLk8u19TNo
I tried to search everywhere but I couldn’t find answers, maybe wrong keywords.
Is there a way to track the 4 cornorpins of the composition?
I am doing some project related to 4 cornorpin.
    http://blog.dotify.fr/nteractive-video-with-4-corner-pin-motion-tracking-after-effect-flas h/
    like this..
I know I could do a black solid layer in to “footage holder 6 pre-comp” and track with 4 corner pin.
But I wanted to know if there is a way to track the pins w/o rendering.
As it should be the most precise way to find conor pins
    Can you help?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for reply.
    Just like the project in
    http://blog.dotify.fr/nteractive-video-with-4-corner-pin-motion-tracking-after-effect-flas h/ .
    or
    http://www.soundstep.com/blog/experiments/jstracking/
I want to make a script that can show replacing placeholders in the footage.
To do so, I need coordinates of 4 corner pin of a composition(the composition which I can replace the footage).
Of course, I can put a placeholder with dots, render the project and then motion track it.
But it takes long time and tracked data is rusty and inaccurate.
I thought it mightbe cool if I could just keep tracking the vertax's x coordinate and y cordinate data.
It will be precise, clean and quick since the positions of the dots are already calculated.
    Can you help?

  • AE NEEDED REQUEST

Maybe some of the below requests are available now and I'm not aware or they are in development (cross fingers), but here they are:
Scalable interface for high dpi screens! (Like Photoshop) Also, it would be great to have big buttons on the UI based of the comp viewer size.
Show Layer Styles in the Effects Panel like an effect (not forcing the user to navigate the layer controls to find them).
Show Guides from an imported PSD document.
Collapse option Smart Objects from Photoshop (which are right now treated like bitmaps)
Shape layers from Photoshop must remain as AE shape layer not as a Solid with a Mask
Add AME templates to the Render Cue.
Show audio waveforms in Timeline without having to unfold properties thrice.
Layer Groups in Timeline (sometimes “Shy” is just NOT enough!)
Be able to change the height of a given layer in Timeline (like Premiere).
Thumbnails for layers on the Timeline.
Have the “Adjust composition duration” not only in the “move all attributes” option when Precomposing (like “Trim compose”).
Be able to choose precomp size either based on the scale of the objects or user definable.
Have the option to maintain the scale of a precomp based on the biggest object selected.
Multiple composition properties changer: Scale, FPS, Duration, etc.
Track individual vertices on masks and translate a vertex without affecting the track or editing every keyframe.
Double click over tab titles (of a panel )to expand or close them.
Shorcuts for shape layer properties :  Scale, rotation etc ( double S for scale ? )
For God’s sake let us import Photoshop brushes already! ;-)
    Paint on collapsed Illustrator files!
Fast drag to import all videos in a folder or audios (like Premiere).
Photoshop: Please add an Effects (Filters) window and search field (like After Effects)
Proper adjustement layer support for imported Photoshop files.
When importing image sequences, it would be best to collapse files to see them as one file (like Smoke or Nuke do).
Distorsion mesh, Power pin, Corner pin: Resize grid or handles to masked area, not the whole layer.
Being able to zoom in more than 800% in 2k and 400% on 4k
Why .h264 .mov files can’t be encoded at more than 2000px wide?
Have the option to choose between Icon (Thumbnail) or List view on the Project panel. Like premiere , and roll over a video file to scroll it.
START, END AND WORK Area Information ON THE COMPOSITION WINDOW. (And big numbers please)
Fade the color of a layer when its visibility is disabled (“The Eye” is not active). Like the “stretch negative” warning graphic.
Respect the color of layers when importing Photoshop documents into AE.
Include Premiere projects from Dynamic Link sequences when collecting files.
Dark menu bar like the rest of the UI (like Photoshop or Illustrator). from flakestudios
Show the anchor point of a layer while you are editing the mask
Ctrl + H to hide guides
Convert to editable text ....also on illustrator layers.
Respect a Group of layers inside Illustrator the same way it does from Photoshop (as a comp)
    That's all Todd

I like a lot of your suggestions.

    Some are!

Select your audio layer and press LL

AE does have all the images in an image sequence as one file when they're imported. Did you not select the "Image sequence" option on import?
