3d Z-space transform bug?

I'm noticing that if I have an object, let's say a white rectangle, and want to transform it in Z-space with the 3d transform tool sected, the little blue dot control in the middle of the rectangle has no effect. The red X-axis and green Y-axis controls work fine.
I can move the rectangle through Z-space via the HUD, but it's a little annoying not to have the blue dot control working.
Has anyone else experienced this?

- Setting GraphicElement.transform will update the alpha property with ColorTransform.alphaMultiplier if a colorTransform was explicitly set
- Setting the colorTransform on a mx.geom.Transform that is assigned to a GraphicElement, calls setColorTransform, which updates the alpha property with ColorTransform.alphaMultiplier.
- In commitProperties, the displayObject.alpha is updated only if there is no transform or if colorTransformExplicitlySet is false.

This bug figures out also when creating a custom spark ComboBox, then trying to programatically update the userProposedSelectedIndex property. The proposed selected index is selected, but does not apply the same skin as when mouse is on rollover or item is selected due to up and down keys.
The issue seems like updating the status of the item renderer to rollover or selected to get the same skin applied.
Please could you attach DropDow nList.as that you edited ?

Voice Transformer bug?

I have been using the Voice Transformer plug in to change the sounds of peoples voices in my project.
I adjust the settings to the way I want them to give the people lower or deeper voices, but after it starts to play back Soundtrack makes it sound like a robot voice, if I stop the playback and play again it goes away and sounds the way I set it up to sound.
This would not be to bad of a bug, BUT! When I export the file to a AIFF or MP3 or whatever it renders the voice with the robot sound! not the settings I put on the effect. This is really annoying.
With all the hangs and beachballs that soundtrack gets I am half tempted to buy Pro-Tools with the DV ToolKit.
So what's the deal? Can anybody really use Soundtrack on big projects? I am only using 2 tracks with same effect on each track and it can't handle even that.

Opacity and Free Transform bugs

I just got Photoshop CS5 and there are two things that bug me. The first is a problem with Free Transform that has dated back since Photoshop CS. When I first started out with Photoshop 7.0 and I have both a path and a selection on screen, I can choose to Free Transform the path if I have the Path Selection Tool selected, or Free Transform the selection's content if I have the Move or Marquee tools selected. But since Photoshop CS came out, it will ONLY Free Transform the path if it's on screen, regardless of which tool is selected. This is very annoying, because I usually use paths as a guide when I need to Free Transform something into place. [b]How do I Free Transform pixels if a path is on screen?[/b]
The second problem seems to be a bug with the Opacity shortcuts. If for example, I want to reduce the opacity of a layer to 50%, I'd press M, 5. But in Photoshop CS5, I have to press M, 5, 5. I have no idea why I need to press 5 twice, but it throws me off. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

With the selection on screen click on the Move tool. Then check the "Show transform tools"box at the top of the screen. After that transform away...

Strange transform bug

CS4 Extended 11.01 on Mac OSX 10.6.1 (although I have seen this issue in CS3 on Windows too)
This happens all the time on a file that is using a non-square pixel aspect ratio. I do quite a bit of work for NTSC television broadcast, so I often work at D1/DV NTSC 0.91 pixel aspect ratio.
Problem #1: Say I want to scale a layer to 51% of its original size. I press Command-T to invoke the free-transform tool, then type 51% in either the width or height boxes in the tool options bar. Finally I'll click the little chain link icon to scale width and height proportionally. Sometimes when I do this only the first dimension scales (ie: whatever box I typed "51%" in). Other times this has no effect at all. I've tried clicking the chain link icon before I enter the dimension, but I get the same problem.
Problem #2: This will also happen when problem #1 happens. Again when I start a free transform using Command-T (or from the edit menu), if I click on one of the registration points in the tool options bar, the contents of the layer will shift to the left and scale horozontally to about 90% of its original size. If I continue to click the various registration points, the layer will continue to scale and shift, even though I have not specified any transform parameters other than to set it s registration.
Arbitrary scaling by dragging the control points works fine.
If I switch to square pixel aspect ratio, the problem goes away. If I switch back to D1/DV 0.91, the problem returns.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there a workaround or resolution?

JDK1.4.2_02 disk space requirements (bugs 4842602, 4842606)

I can't find any way to install J2SE 1.4.2_02 on a machine with 70MB free on the C: drive. The installer reports "insufficient space on drive C:" and bombs out immediately, without giving me an opportunity to specify a different drive to install it on. I've looked at the description of disk space requirements in the release notes and it explains which components take up space in which drives, and in theory I should have been able to install it on my system - but I can't. I've set %TEMP% to a different drive in case the problem was caused by the temporary files used by the installer, no help.
Bugs 4842602 and 4842606 seem to match the symptoms I'm getting i.e. the installer insists on having 371MB free space regardless of the actual installation requirements. These two bugs are marked as fixed in "mantis-rc" and "tiger". What do these names relate to? I can't find any way to relate these to J2SE versions.
Can anyone advise on a workaround for this problem, or help me work out what "mantis-rc" and "tiger" are?

I was aiming to install the JDK on a different drive, which had masses of free space. As I understand it, some components have to go on the system drive anyway (the public JRE I think) but most of it would have been installed elsewhere. However, the installer bailed immediately and didn't give me the chance to say what components I wanted or where I wanted them installed.
JavaSoft say the bug has been fixed in "mantis-rc" and "tiger". Is there any way to work out what releases these names correspond to?

XSLT transformation Bug?

We are encountering a strage error and it is not always reproducible.
Problem:
content of one of the element has &; and in the initial transformation this is getting replaced by &
We are doing another transformation of this transformed xml file. This is where the transformation seems to not working correctly.
for some of the elements & is passed as is, on some of the elements , & is replaced with &#38 when ever this happens, the result will pickup all the elements after this element and treat them as text content for this element.

Safari and Preview have color space recognition bugs

I found that both Safari and Preview have problems when viewing photos taken by a Canon DC. By default, the Canon cameras use sRGB for their digital still images. But Preview cannot recognize it and would report "ColorSync profile" as "-" in "Tools/Get Info". I guess that Generic RGB profile is applied in such a condition. If the file is opened by iPhoto or Photoshop, the color space information is recognized correctly. And if sRGB profile is manually assigned to the image using ColorSync Utility, Preview/Safari will give the same vivid color representation as iPhoto/PS do.

A workaround I've been using:
1) Before you paste your screenshot (that you will be distorting) take the background / working file and blow it up by 5x or 10x using Nearest Neighbor interpolation.
2) Paste your screenshot, distort/edit perspective, blowing it up as required.
3) Shrink your working file back down to the original size (use bicubic this time).
That should provide a repeatable process without too much distortion / image data loss for each subsequent image added to your working file. Ideally you would do the blow-up / shrink-down ONCE (but really never)...

SDK-17362 - GraphicElement.getBitmapData doesn't handle 3D transforms
Added in support to take a bitmap snapshot of a 3D transformed GraphicElement.
Added a flag to getBitmapData to return a bitmap of the target either in the local or global coordinate space.
Also, fixed a bug in the bitmap snapshot logic for a 2D GraphicElement that was sharing its displayObject.
Note that the 3D snapshot isn't accurate if you have set maintainProjectionCenter on an ancestor. There are also limitations when rotation is applied. In addition, getting a local 3D snapshot isn't too accurate once you start scaling ancestors.

Color management bug?

Hi,
the following problem arised:
(1) Developed Canon raw file (.cr2) to BW then dual toned (in German: Teiltonung)
(2)exported to PS CS3 (with LR settings applied, I think the other options were greyed out)
The images in Lightroom and PS look significantly different. Developed to Adobe RGB (PS work color space). Color settings (preserve embedded profiles..., ask...)
I use Windows XP Home on a Dual Core 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, ATI X1300 Video (256 GB), EIZO L568. Windows installation si relatively fresh (6 weeks).
Within the last years I established a consistent color management:
Soft proofs in Photoshop match very well my prints on Epson R2400 (in part using self made profiles for other than Epson paper)or on Fuji Crystal Archive (images converted to the FF Frontier PD/no convert profile, sent to the lab which whas asked to processed the image in the PD/no convert mode). I was fully satisfied - until this Lightroom behavior confused me.
Nevertheless, accepting that something might be wrong with my workflow I checked the following:
As I realized the differences between PS and LR I used a v4 icc profile for the monitor (Eye One display 2, basiccolor display 3.1, loaded into monitor LUT). I then recalibrated the monitor, now with basiccolor display 4.1, v2 icc profile loaded in the video LUT. Same difference between Lightroom and Photoshop. In a next step I used the EIZO made monitor profile: Same difference. I then completely disabled colormanagement (removing all monitor profiles within the control panel) for the monitor: same difference. Of course, PC was shut down between the experiments, video LUT loader were enabled/disabled as required for the experiments.
My conclusion:
Lightroom's color management does not work on my machine while PS is OK !
Additionally: One can assume that this is not related to the operating !
Additional observations:
Images opened in a not color managed application like Firefox are more close to the appearance in Lightroom.
The difference seems to be dependent on the colors in the image. With more naturally looking images (flesh tones in portraits) it is not so obvious.
The difference in appearance is there for psd files already stored in the database, too.

Hi Uli,
I can reproduce the problem on my machine as well. It's a PC laptop running WinXP MCE, with a crappy, but calibrated, screen. Sorry, I have no access to a better screen right now. Calibration software is Monaco OptixXR, as a startup LUT loader I use Microsoft's new color applet.
I can see a difference in screen representation when viewing the same file side by side in Lightroom and Photoshop CS2. It's not always obvious with generic color photos, but with split toned B&Ws it shows up very clearly, mostly in the shadows. It seems to happen with all different file types. I tested raw files in Lightroom exported to 16-bit ProPhoto PSDs and 8-bit AdobeRGB files created in Photoshop.
I also have three comments on the earlier posts:
1) The fact that subtracting a Lightroom-converted file from a Photoshop converted file gives all zeros, indicates that there is nothing wrong with Lightroom's internal color space transformations. The problem seems to be restricted to the display transformation, and limited to Windows as well.
2) It is no surprise that the Lightroom histogram deviates from the one in Photoshop, as Lightroom's histogram is calculated in a hybrid space that uses the ProPhoto primaries and the sRGB tone response curve (similar to gamma 2.2)
3) Lightroom gives no options to select the rendering intent for export. That is not as strange as it seems, because the available color spaces ProPhoto, AdobeRGB and sRGB, are all 'display color spaces'. This implies that the only two possible rendering intents are relative colorimetric and absolute colorimetric. As Lightroom is not addressing proofing needs, I figure that the choice for relative colorimetric conversion has been made for us. Not a bad thing, IMO.
I do hope that this issue will be addressed. Uli, have you submitted an official bug report?? It certainly *would* be nice if someone from Adobe could leave a notice that this thread has been read.

You are right, theer are some changes incorporated in the latest MLR # 16 on the configurations files and on the dehydration store metrics(such as performance, fields,..).
However, I would not suggest to continue working on olite, even for Development/Test purposes as you might get stuck with strange errors...and the only solution would be to re-install SOA Suite if your olite gets corrupted. There might be ways to gets your olite back to position, but trust me..its not so simple.
Also, when you develop and stress test all your testcase scenarios in an TEST Adv installation, its simple to mimic the same in actual production box, as you exactly know its behavior.
So, go for a brand new SOA 10.1.3.4 MLR # 5 (or) 10.1.3.3.1 MLR # 16 SOA Suite Advanced installation with Oracle DB 10.2.0.3 as its dehydration store.

Transformation - Rotate only moves path, not selected pixels.

Hi All,
I must be missing some simple click somewhere.... Just starting out with the Pen tool, paths and converting into a selection.
Trying to transform a converted selection pixels made from a path.
Current layer is visible and selected. Current path is selected. I use the path-selection tool to pick the path. I do "make selection" which turns pixels into a selection. So far, so good.
After going to Edit | Transform Path | Rotate, the bounding box is displayed. I drag the corner and the bounding box turns along with the path I made. The selection does not move at all. When I hit the 'commit' button, no pixels are moved. Nothing changes in the picture.
If I do all the above in an untouched fresh .psd file with just a background layer and a layer 1 included, everything works. Whatever is selected rotates fine.
Why would a Transform Path | Rotate work fine in one photo, but not in another?
I'm sure it's something simple. Thanks in advance.

OK, found the solution in another forums.adobe.com post.... but it's non-intuitive.
The "transform path" menu option instead of "transform" being displayed may have something to do with having multiple paths for an image. Not really sure. It's just a hunch.

With the selection on screen click on the Move tool. Then check the "Show transform tools"box at the top of the screen. After that transform away...

When generating layers it replaces spaces with underscores

Hi All,
I am working now with RH8, and when I am saving projects and give the name, let's say "my file.chm" it replaces the space with an underscore and the name becomes "my_file.chm". Is it possible to do anything about that?

I think that what I said means you cannot generate with spaces.
Bug? It has done it that way for several versions and I believe it is important if you are creating merged CHM help.
