3G, high signal drops as soon as my phone dials a number - what's up with that?

While keeping my phone in the same place all week - sitting on my desk or in my hand while I am sitting at my desk, my signal strength constantly varies from no signal or one bar, to 3G with three bars. It goes back and forth every few minutes. Sometimes it keeps a strong signal for a while before inexplicably dropping down. However, if I ever try to make a call, the moment the phone starts dialing, the signal now always drops down to one bar, no 3G. This has been going on for a few days now. Anyone else experience this? Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Does your signal strength stay the same when your phone is dialing a call (not to mention once you are connected as well of course)?
My signal strength sometimes looks good, but always drops down to one bar when the phone starts dialing. Now I can only talk on one bar - not a very good connection, but as soon as I hang up the call, my signal strength indicator goes back up to a few bars, usually with 3G. Anyone have any guesses what might be going on here?

To "TheInsider":
When you ask, "Are you guys addressing the issue?" you need to know that posts on this forum have no impact on Verizon or Motorola tech support. As far as I can tell and have been told, Tech support do not base any of their decisions on forum postings. They do, however, base decisions on problems documented by calls to tech support from a line other than your mobile phone number, in which you follow all of the instructions of the tech people. If you follow all of their instructions and the problem is not fixed, they might make a small note of it. If they receive enough such calls/documentation/notes, then they might escalate the problem to higher levels of tech support with more important people (and the more calls/documented problems, the more people) checking out the problem.
In order to get Verizon TECH SUPPORT "to care" you need to do something like many people did with the volume problem. There are many, many droid and android forums on the internet. Join them, make relevant posts, organize reports of the problem with other people who have the problem, and get as many people as possible who have the problem to call it in properly to tech support. Many people kept doing this with the volume problem, and eventually enough people had documented the unresolved problem with Verizon tech support, and enough websites and even newspapers started reporting the problem, that Verizon and Motorola now (after weeks of denying any such problem) officially acknowledge the problem and claim (along with Motorola), that they are working on a firmware update that will fix or improve the problem.
My phone does the same thing that you describe, but only from my home in a very rural area with poor reception. In more populated areas with more cell towers (or whatever they are called), my voice calls are perfectly clear. At home, however, as soon as I dial, my number of bars drops to 0 or 1, and as soon as I hang up my number of bars goes up to 2, 3, or 4 (and, I think, a 3G indicator). So I presume that there is decent 3G/data coverage in the rual area where I live, but for whatever reason there is poor voice coverage where I live (and the voice quality at home is poor, in contrast to more populated areas, where it is excellent). Have you noticed whether the problem you describe changes depending on the area in which you are using the phone as I did?

  • HT1595 It takes literally hours to load a move and I have good wireless signal...what's up with that?

It is taking literally hours for movies to load on Apple TV using both NETFLIX and iTunes.  I have a strong wifi signal and according to the connection test, all is well.  What's up with that?

Wifi signal and connection test don't really give a good indication of where things are at
Check speedtest.net to see actual connection speed, needs at least 6mbps consistently for instant HD stream
Check istumbler.net or netstumbler to verify interference
Male sure you are on the ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic)

  • Phone signal drops and says 'searching...' no idea what to do

Half way through calls or after calls the phone signal drops and i can't get it back unless i switch on and off numerous times. THis has been gong on to a greater or lesser degree since I got the phone a year ago but has got much worse recently.
i have tried resetting all settings, as per the o2 advice. They have told me to go to the apple store but I am not hopeful that they will help and as it is a long way I don't want a wasted journey. I have swapped sims/ phones with my partner who has a 3g iphone and he doesnt have the same problem so it is not related to where i am geographically or my sim. any ideas?

I have the same problem after I have update my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1.
Immediately after the update my simcard was demagnetized (it was unusable). So I had to buy a new sim card but after a couple of day more times a day the sigal drops down and I have to switch off/on.
My iphone has never had any problems untill the update.
    My operator is Vodafone Italia.

  • As I can see from others, apparently I am not the only who cannot access ibooks bookstore since doing the iOs7 update.  What's up with that and is there going to be a fix soon?

Why can't I access the ibookstore from my ibooks account?

Way to go, James Ward, I had the exact same problem, couldn't access ibookstore after update to IOS7.  I did what you said (signing out and signing back into itunes and apps stores -- believing very strongly that it would not work -- and it did work.  Now I'm accessing ibookstore on iphone normally.  Have no idea why this should solve an ibooks issue, but good call by you.

  • Iphone 5 signal dropping issue

    Hi guys,
I just got my Iphone5 as a gift from my friend month ago.
It was really exciting when I first got it. However I found sometimes when I unlock the screen, the signal will suddenly drop to 1 bar and then searching, this will take seconds and then appears no service. If lucky, the signal will come back soon. But it still really annoying! And this happens more often recently.
I tried reset network setting few times but it didn't help at all. So I thought maybe is due to carrier's issue. I am with Vodafone, so I bought a Telstra prepaid sim and try to see if this fixed the problem. But still, keep lossing signals!
    This is so frustrating!
And my battery is draining really fast as well, even I turned off wifi, bluetooth; minimum brightness; all background apps off. its still draining!!
Anybody got the same issue here? I tried google this but seems nobody got the similar problem
    Could anyone help me please?!
    Thanks!

    Thank you for your answer!
Did your phone just fixed itself?! How long did it takes?
I'm worried if it's actually no signal after we lock the screen? I mean once I left my phone in the bathroom and I forgot so I called up but it just directly into voicemail! I thought I lost my phone!!
And what if I need to make a emergency call??

  • Signal dropped from 5GHz to 2.4GHz - Transmit rate: from 210 to 67 ????

Does anyone knows why Time Capsule would switch to Ch 1 (2.4GHz) all of the sudden?
I have moved to a different house and here the TC is a little further from the iMac but why is the MBP has the same problem?

Signals in the 5GHz range drop off faster than 2.4GHz signals when passing through walls, etc.
You might try forcing your Time Capsule to use channels 149 and up. According to the electronic book "Take Control of Your 802.11n Network, version 1.6" (www.takecontrolbooks.com/airport-n), 2009 versions of the Extreme and Time Capsule use higher power in the "upper 5 GHz band".
I have no financial relationship with Take Control Books.

  • Signals drop on iPhone 5s iOS 8.1 both wifi and network

I am having the following problems since i updated to iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5s 16GB model A1533 :
1- My network signals drop to 3 dots and sometimes to 2 and stay there.
2- Sometimes my wifi disconnects itself on my iphone for almost 4 or 5 seconds
3- My battery is draining faster that ever. I turned off the use of fingerprint and found it useful but still my iphone consumes a lot of battery. I get my battery percentage dropped to 80% from 100% in just 20minutes of whatsapp usage. My fone's vibration is never on. Location services all off except find my iphone. Background app refresh also off. I tried everything. Erase all settings, hard reset etc. NO USE
4- Playing games is really difficult. Battery drains very fast.
I did not have these problems on 7.1.2. Need help
    Regards,
    Ahmad

I understand that but I hope that people from Apple will be referring to the support groups and may actually think about that last paragraph.

  • Why does my signal drop every time I try to use an application.

I've got a UFO style 802.11g, which I unfortunately kept up to date with the updates.
For well over a year now I've had my gear set up like this, airport in the den, my wife's older Imac in the den with it, the printer in the den as well and my Imac across the house. Now, everything in the den connects like cake. Always up, always a great signal.
My Imac across the house has always had it's ups and downs, we've got a stone fireplace and out kitchen in between. Basically, it's 3 rooms away. A whole bunch of walls and corners for the signal to bounce off of. So, I know, not an ideal set up. But it's worked ok for a good long time.
So, a few months ago I performed the recommended update. It said that it would increase connection quality. So I thought, hey, this might help me out! At first glance my connection seemed great! I never lost a bar, not while I was looking anyway. Then I started noticing that occasionally I switch a webpage or some such and it would tell me that I wasn't connected to the internet. What? I look up and I've got all the bars, so I try again and get through... then I notice the bars just flat out go dead. Now I can't connect again. Odd.
Ok, so I start paying attention and it just drops out at random... now, the signal used to fluctuate up and down fairly regularly before the update. I'd researched the problem and found out all the things that can interrupt my signal, and basically I've got em all in between my Airport and my Imac. I could live with that, because it would slow down, but it stayed connected for the most part. This was something new.
Ok, back to the problem at hand. Now I see the signal is either all bars or none. No 2 bars, no 3 bars. Here or gone. And while I'm paying attention, I notice that practically every time I click on something, from my mail app to a preview image the signal drops to nothing. Seemed a coincidence at first, but know I'm certain that it isn't.
So, random complete signal loss and complete signal loss when I use and app. Really not pleased.
Ok, so I figured maybe there's a fix on the way, but I've heard nothing of it. I installed the most recent update, absolutely no effect. Oh, and this one too was supposed to provide better connectivity. Where? I'm not seeing it! Everything in the den works just as well as it ever has. That's one of the things I've loved about Mac for more than 10 years. Easy to use and reliable. But this, this is just a big old pain.
I've tried to extend the network unsuccessfully with the Express. I've got another option to try with that, so my fingers are crossed. But I just don't get why my network is now worse than when I set it up when the only change that's been made have been the updates that I installed at Apple's insistence that my signal would actually be better.
Sorry for being so long winded, and for anyone who made it this far... is there anything that I can do? I really do prefer to have my office in the room that it's in, but it doesn't help me at all when I have to move my Imac to use it online.

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

  • Why does my signal drops and takes a long time to search and connect when I turn on or off my cellular data? And normal text messages are not getting delivered properly. It shows sent but later it will show try again, Is it just me?

I do not know what the problem is, but after the latest update it is really hard to send text messages. It is taking alot of time to send the messages, it is not the problem with the carrier because sending text messages with the same number in the same area is really easy on my normal nokia 1100. Please suggest me what I should check. Second problem I am facing is the carrier signal drops to nothing when I turn on the cellular data. It has to then search for the network and connect again the same happens when I turn the data off again. Please tell a solution. I do not think it is the problem with the hardware because the phone is hardly 2weeks old and everything was working properly with ios 6. It initaly had problem with the battery on updating to ios7 but that was rectified with the new update but again these are the new issues am facing.

  • Late 2012 mac mini display signal drops while booting and monitor goes to sleep

I have a new Late 2012 Mac Mini.  I have had it for a week, what just started happening is that during restart, the video signal drops and my monitor goes to sleep.  I then have to toggle through the input options on the monitor and the video signal is detected again and the monitor wakes up.
Here is what I see - If i shut down and then power back up, I get the grey screen, then the apple logo, then the little status circle spins for a few cycles then stops and then the screen goes black and the monitor says signal lost and then 5 seconds later goes to sleep.
It is possible it is my monitor but, I haven't had any issues with it and i only drops the signal like that during a reboot.

Welcome to the family. Search this forum for the main thread for this problem titled: "mac mini 2012 video blinking out".

  • Why is my WiFi connection dropping as soon as I walk out of the room where my router is located? Running OSX 10.6.8

Why is my WiFi connection dropping as soon as I walk out of the room where my router is located? Running OSX 10.6.8
Had ISP provider here multiple times. They switched out the router/modem on 4 occasions. They ran new fiber optic cables to my house. They sent a PC tech here with a Mac, and he was able to get a strong wireless connection, but mine, he said, was "weak."
I called Apple support. They had me remove the battery and clear the PRAM. It didn't help.
There's no point in having a wireless connection if I cannot walk 20 feet away from the router without losing the connection.
Do I need a new Airport Extreme card?
How much would it cost to get one, and what is the process of getting it installed? (no longer under warranty)
    Deb Goonan

My ISP replaced my router FOUR times. I don't think that's the problem.
We already tried chanign the channel multiple times, channels 1, 6, 11 and even 9 and 4
    No luck

  • Keynote video signal drops out

Keynote 4 video signal drops out during presentations where we are switching between two different Apple Computers (one G4 and one Intel). Both machines had previous versions of Keynote on them and over a period of time never had a signal drop out condition. Sounds like new version problem.
    Any input appreciated.

I have two laptops each with their video out adapter connected and then cabled to a switch box where the big monitors project the signal of the laptop that the swtich box is set to. Like channel selection. Previous versions of Keynote were never a problem and I mean never. The signal came right through but now with Keynote 4 the signal drops out even tho the laptop is still active and apparently sending a signal through its video out connection. I have to hit escape and get out of keynote and then go back to PLAY for keynote to once again send that signal.

  • Ipad 2 signal dropping after visit to genius bar??

How is that possible.  I was concerned about the bleeding that I never addressed and now my wifi signal drops.  I've tried to restore, turn off wifi, change to airplane mode and

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Then restart your iPad>    Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
BTW, Airplane Mode disables Wi-Fi >  iOS: Understanding airplane mode
If nothing above helped try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Wi-Fi

  • Bell TV receptor signal drop every 4 min caused by TimeCapsule

I just got my Fibe 50 installed here in Quebec, Canada, and every 4 minutes there is a signal drop. I had 2 technicians coming home and finally we discovered that there is a DHCP conflit between both of them. When I turn off the TimeCapsule and uses only bell router, the problem disappears. Does anybody had the same problem or know if there is any configuration to solve the problem? In the TimeCapsule settings I have already changed to allow 5Hz bandwidth but did not work. Thanks a lot.

If you are supplied a router then the TC has to be in bridge mode.. that is router bridge..
Open the airport utility and make sure in the dhcp and NAT section you have it set to bridge.
Then you can set fixed channels to the wireless that are different to the bell router.. or turn off wireless altogether.. you can still access the TC via the bell router.
