3G ipod Touch and 4G touch on same iTunes account

I've got a 3rd generation iPod touch and have been syncing with iTunes 9.1, and have just gotten a new 4th generation touch.
I guess I'll have to update iTunes to 10.1 to make the new touch work with iTunes.... however the question I have
1) I've read messages that two ipod touch units can sync with the same iTunes software, but does iTunes insure that the two units are kept separate and that apps stay separate on the two units?
2) Is there any risk of the of the old operating system on the 3G unit getting screwed up with the new OS or does iTunes keep things nicely in separate directories?
3) How does one transfer a paid app from one device to another? I assume if both devices are synced on the same iTunes there must be a way to move an app from one to the other.......
can an app be moved from one unit to another IF you're syncing the two devices on separate computers?
Thanks....

You can sync as many iphones/ipods as you like to one itunes library. Each device is different and can be set to sync whatever you like.
1) Yes.
2) They are different devices. Each has their own settings. You can upgrade the 3g or not.
3) You don't transfer from device to device. If it is in itunes, then you can sync it to a device. The apps should be on your computer in itunes anyway, just sync it to the other device.
Iphone will sync to one computer only. If you sync to another, it will erase the content and replace with content from the new computer.

  • Can I sync both my ipod Touch and iphone to the same itunes account.

I have an ipod touch and ipod classic that both sync to the same itunes account, and I'm thinking of getting an iphone. Will I be able to use the same apps on the iphone and ipod touch?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It won't be a problem. You can use an 'unlimited' number of devices (iPods, iPhones etc) on a single iTunes account.
I rushed off to O2 on Friday after work and got myself an iPhone.
I backed up the iPod touch first (which was running 3.0 by that time) and then activated the iPhone using the iPod touch backup. Pretty much everything synced across exactly as it was on the touch (i.e. all Apps and paid apps), notes etc. One app I had never got to run on the iPod (iOSMaps) suddenly appeared on the iPhone too. Much like when you get a new Mac you find that all your settings and windows are preserved. When I opened Safari on the iPhone the last two pages I'd been looking at on the iPod were open. The only things that didn't sync were my emails - which of course downloaded shortly after the account details were synced (this is as expected), the iPhone suddenly being named 'iPod touch', my home WiFi password didn't sync and my email signature (not surprisingly still read - Sent from my iPod touch'.)

Transfer the iTunes folder from your old computer to your new computer. It's in your My Music >> iTunes folder. You'll probably need an external hard drive to do this. Make sure you upgrade the old and the new computers to the latest iTunes before transferring your music to the new machines.

Yes. Use the option to sync with selected playlists on the music tab when your devices are connected.

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

My nephew and I use the same iTunes account and when I add an app it is loaded on to his iPhone and vice versa... How do I make that stop? I have already unchecked the "Auto Update Apps" button. It happens with all purchases in the app store and on iTunes. HELP!

I also think separate accounts is the way to go....if he is over 13yrs also remember if you do make an account for him and use your bank card all purchases will be charged to your card.

My daughter and I share the same ITunes account.  How can we separate the accounts?

I shared my iTunes account with my 2 daughters for years.  A few months ago, switched to iOS 8 and Yosemite and upgraded to Family Sharing.  We can still share music/apps/etc, BUT now everyone in the family has their own playlists, document, etc.  Works great.

    Hi tomgoggs,
iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud memory space. See this article for what iCloud is used to store -

How do i make icloud work if my husband and I share the same itunes account but we dont want to get each others contacts, messages, apps etc?

Each of you should set up your separate iCloud account on your own computer using your Apple ID. This gives you two independent iCloud accounts.
Note that an iPad is not a multi-user device. It can only be synced with one account.

You might have a little "problem" if your payment were by Credit Card, everytime you try to buy something (I mean, try to download something on your iphone, not from your computer) , your going to need to verify your payment... but if u use iTunes Gift Card, you wont have any problem with that

  • Can my wife and i share the same itunes account on different iphones?

    Hello everyone,
My wife has had an iTunes account, Iphone, and Ipod for a while.  I just bought an Iphone and Ipod and would like to utilize her music library without messing up her phone or itunes account.  We'd like to maintain separate apps and stuff on our devices...so when I download music and apps, she doesn't want that showing up on her phone when she pairs it to her itunes account.  Can this be done?
I have heard that I need to create my own Apple ID, which I have...so I can download my own apps...but will I have access to her itunes music if I do that?
    Thanks!
