3rd party video players stopped working

I have the Universal version of VLC and MPlayer on my MacBook Pro. They used to work fine until about a week ago, so I correlate that with the latest quicktime update somehow. Now what happens is: VLC shows a black screen and plays some audio, then crashes. MPlayer hangs when I drag a movie into its playlist, I have to restart my computer.
This happens with all kinds of movies (avi, mpg, mov). Quicktime Player and 3rd party PPC players work fine.

This is exactly what happened to me. Quicktime Logo "Q" with a question mark on some web pages. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way of fixing this? I've tried the usual: triple checked all vga cables & devices through trial & error. Bought a new DVI-VGA adapter. Reset PRAM, PMU, etc. Nothing works. Something is probably damaged, because my KVM switch was not working unless I hot-reseated the vga cable into it, leading to this DVI port, and that is pretty rough stuff.
Question 2 (related):
This dovetails into this: Can I drive a VGA monitor with the s-video output port on this computer. It would take an s-video (male)-to-15-pin-VGA adapter. Has anyone does this? So far, I haven't even found the adapter mentioned anywhere.

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.

I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Here is something interesting that i have noticed though. my main pc (which is the one i have always managed my itunes account with for years) is a 32 bit system running windows 7. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

Are there 3rd party web cams that work with Mac?

I bounght an iMac G5 just before iSight was built in. Recently I went to but the iSight camera, but it is no longer sold seperately. Tried an off-the-shelf Logitech cam but to no avail. Is there a 3rd party cam that will work????

Was working yesterday and before. Now, it's stopped. Crashes with a window saying it stopped working. What is going on? I bought this program because it had that function.

1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
2. If you say that "Video Share" stopped working, what specific export route and settings were you using when the crash occurred and at what stage of the export?
3. How did you set up your project
a. What are the properties of the source media...video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio? What is the duration of the Timeline content?
b. What project preset did you or the project set to match the properties of the source media. If you do not know, please see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio, even if they appear to be grayed out?
4. Basics
a. Are you running the program Run As Administrator and from User Account with Administrative Privileges?
b. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements?
c. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card? How many video/graphic cards does your computer use, 1 or 2?
c. What is the description for your computer and its resources?

You don't, none of the Roland sounds are ever transferred to Logic.
MIDI has nothing to with sound, it's only a trigger that activates the sounds in the Roland.
I have a couple of 1080's in a rack, their audio outputs run into a mixing desk, from there they can be routed to my audio card inputs.

When I was playing call of duty 4 in 5 minutes my video card stops working and screen restart.
Then it says Your video card stopped working, and problem solved.
My video card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600.

Possibly the graphic driver hung and therefore you received this message.
Its also possible that the GPU temperature was too high and therefore the message appeared.
The COC 4 needs a lot of hardware resources and everything must run with full performance! Therefore there is higher heat dissipation and this can lead to graphic card issues.

3rd party earbuds/phones not working with new Nano

So, I've got a new Nano ( a couple months old at this point ), and the earbuds that came with it got accidently trashed.
No worries, because I've got several other sets of earbuds / headphones kicking around.
The problem is that with all of them, the sound keeps cutting out / playback stops. I'm fairly certain that this is the iPod detecting "no headphones" and stopping playback.
It happens whenever the plug flexes; it's as if the jack briefly loses contact with the internal connectors.
Since I usually keep my iPod in my pocket, this happens quite often.
I don't know whether the new Apple earbuds (with volume control/mic) would react the same way; I won't buy them, because I can't have them at work (anything with a microphone is banned).
Anyone have thoughts / help?

Ok, more follow-up.
Roommate had a pair of iPod buds that he'd never used, and let me have them.
There are marked differences between the iPod 3.5 mm jack and a "standard" 3.5 mm jack.
The standard 3.5 mm jack has three sections, tip, middle, and call it 'core'.
The iPod jack has 4 sections, tip, middle, core 1 and core 2.
The seperator for each of the common sections (tip to middle/middle to core(core1)) are at the same place.
I suspect that the "core 2" is how the the iPod/iPad/iPhone uses the microphone.
No big deal, except I can't have a microphone, at all, period, at work. Absolutely forbidden (if I want to keep my job).
Breaking out the micrometer (yes, I own a micrometer), it looks as though the iPod jack is a lot closer to the 3.5mm tolerance, than the standard one, which may be the issue. That is, the core1/core2 sections are 3.5mm exactly, whereas the 3rd party jack is 3.46mm. I wouldn't think that would make enough of a difference, but apparently it does.
So, I'm back to my starting point:
Is there an "approved for iPod" set of headphones that doesn't have a microphone built in?

Adobe Muse form with 3rd party host is not working

I have uploaded a form with Adobe Muse to a 3rd party host. Upon testing the link scripts/form_check.php, I see 3 green checkmarks. Upon testing the form, the form appears to submit successfully, however I never receive the email.
I checked with the hosting company and this is what they said:
...this form is using localhost smtp of webserver which was stopped due to spamming issues...actually, localhost doesn't have proper rDNS record and the return path for all mails is the server itself, so whenever a client uses its domain for spamming the server's mail queue gets choked and creates issues for others. So we generally do not open localhost smtp and recommend users to use proper SMTP Authentication so that each mail will be delivered and won't create issues for server even if someone does spamming because in that case all mails will bounce back to the mailbox. So, we recommend you to use smtp authentication in the form and use proper smtp details to send mail.
Please provide a recommendation on what I should do to resolve this? Is there a way to modify the form so that it uses proper SMTP Authentication instead of Localhost?

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.
