4.2 bug? - return link to app after error not working & another...

Don't ask me why, but its working now. I used another html tag:
   '<a href="#" onclick="showCusMD(''' || "CUST_FIRST_NAME" || ' ' || "CUST_LAST_NAME" || ''',' || CUSTOMER_ID
    || ')"><img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#e2.gif" alt=""></a>'  as "LINKER"
This is how its looking now, and its working. I have no Idea, why before it caused the apex error... One thing which might be significant is to include an identifier for that column ("as LINKER" or whatever)
I just wanted to include a link into a normal report column on the demo realm (see here 'test/test') to test something out.

Unable to change Interactive Report query.
ORA-12899: value too large for column "APEX_040200"."WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_COLUMNS"."DB_COLUMN_NAME" (actual: 87, maximum: 30)1: the link for returning to the app only brought me back to this page,
2: should't it be possible, to query and output a longer string with html tags, then display it as a standard report column? (I think I did similar bevore, and that was also longer than 30 chars.) Or is there a new "4.2"-way for doing such things in a different location?

Hi Patrick,
using an alias would look like this, I can imagine. So instead of the long literal in the above statement:
:P30_LINKCOL_ALIAS || CUST_FIRST_NAME || ',' || CUSTOMER_ID || ')">'{code}
where P30_LINKCOL_ALIAS is initialised with the image tag and the js-function. Its still too long!!! Only if I ONLY select the page item, it is accepted. On the other hand, when I run the entire query as above from an sql command line, its working. Shouldnt this be possible in apex also? Now I +could+ write a sql-function for that purpose but that seems to be a bit too much of an effort.
Or is there another solution you are refering to?

EDIT: btw. I have testet the same situation on my local apex 4.1. Same behavior. So its no 4.2 issue, but nevertheless... ;)
EDIT2: Maybe you can help me find a workaround for what I am trying to achieve: When the user clicks the link-column, I want a customized modal (boostrap) dialog to pop up for user confirmation or further input. Now I first tried using the link attributes for that column:
{code}<img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#e2.gif" alt="" onclick="cusMDlg(#CUST_NAME#+','+#CUSTOMER_ID#)" >{code}
The problem is that here the page gets submitted so the modal dialog never shows. I tried implementing an dynamic action to show the dialog on a certain page REQUEST but couldnt get that to work. Can you interupt the apex-page submission process somehow? I tried building a validation that always returns false on that request and opens the dialog via htp.p(.. jquery.. ), cound't get to work eigther, besides this solution would be really crappy. :)
I hope you can suggest of a way. I need a solution for this for our office which runs apex 4.0.1.
