4 bit PNG display issue

Dear all,
I am using sun jvm pbp1.0.2-linux-x86.
I have written a test apps which will display a png image by reading the file. But when i executed the program White colour in the png is shown as blue colour. The point to be noted here is that the bit depth of the png is 4.
I there any display issues in the 4 bit PNG images.
I am also facing this problem in the jdk version 1.4 in linux and windows.
But the image is dispalyed correctly in jdk 1.5 version.
Is there any fix need to apply in my jvm to render the 4 bit PNG image correctly.
Waiting for your kind cooperation
Regards
Sivan

Dear all,
The error is fixed.
With reference to Bug ID: 4809676 of SUN bug database, applied one patch in the code
In the source code of sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder, please see 436 line.
Near the end of the line, ... &7 is present.
Actually 7 should have been 15. Otherwise, some PNG images
with bitdepth 4 won't be decoded correctly. Showing incorrect colors.
case 4:
bPixels[col+rowOffset] = (byte)((rowByteBuffer[spos>>1]>>
((1-(spos&1))*4))&7); // --> Replace &7 to &15
spos++;
break;

• PS saving blank PNG files, display issues

For the past few days, randomly, photoshop is saving PNGs as blank transparent files. A 640 x 1136px file is 60-70kb.
There are also some display issues that look like GPU issues but only happening with PS, no other programs.
New Document looks like this:
Pasted screenshot into the new doc and moved it around:

• Display issue: green, flashing pixels, low resolution on my new MBP 17"

I just bought my MacBook Pro 17" on December 2010 from Authorized Reseller in Dublin.
After couple of days for the first time and now every 2-3 days my MBP's display goes suddenly pixleated with green, shiny pixels and all display appears like low resolution. After closing the lid and opening it again the problem disappears. During that display problem my computer has no issue with performance like: video playing, opening and closing applications, rebooting, etc. Here are some screen shots made by my photo camera during this display issue: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/809/dsc03872j.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6670/dsc03879x.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/7914/dsc03885z.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3830/dsc03881g.jpg
I should mention that I also made a screen shot with Shiftcmd3 combination of keys during this display issue and it appears, as you can see http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8618/screenshot20110123at204.png as it should be - sharp and clear. One of my friend said that maybe I should reinstall operating system, but my guess is that it isn't software (Snow Leopard) issue. By the way, I have all the latest updates.
Please, can you tell me what is the problem, what is causing it and what should I do?
Thank you.

Ok, guys, I should update my main post about screen issues on my MacBook Pro 17" 2010 model, because it was quiet a big issue. It was actually problem not with display panel (which was completely replaced and which didn't resolved that screen issue at all) but with motherboard which has been replaced (by Mactivate).
After almost 3 months I can say that the computer had no issues since the repair: no screen issues, no noisy running vents.
I must say I am happy with repair made by Mactivate (actually one of few repair services authorized and recommended by Apple). They arranged the pick up with their own currier with no charge, great communication and most of all - they did everything to resolve this quiet unusual issue with my display.
I really and honestly can recommend Mactivate to anyone in Ireland.

• Weird OSX display issues after going to webpage, only thing that fixes is Perm repair

I have a bizarre issue that i'd love some input on. Late 2009 iMac, Mountain Lion (then Mavericks).
I use Firefox to utilize a real estate website (Fusion MLS) for several months now. A couple of days ago, after i would log into the website and use it for a little bit, the rest of my tabs, apps, windows, would all start appearing as black boxes, or have glitched out (generally black) screen display issues. To be clear, other tabs inside the browser would be black, or partially black, and also the right half of my taskbar icons would be black silhouettes of the icon. BUT, the Fusion MLS website would still work fine. Closing the page, etc, would not fix the problem, it would be stuck like that no matter what i closed or opened, computer would function fine except for the display, but i couldnt see hardly any of the apps so I'd have to shutdown, but a simple reboot didnt fix it. After an hour of troubleshooting, I started off in Mountain Lion when the problem appeared, and in the process of troubleshooting I decided to upgrade to Mavericks to see if that would fix the problem, it didnt. Ultimately I discovered the only thing that fixes the problem is to boot into Safe Mode and Repair Permissions, then i can come back in as normal and everything is normal again (a standard reboot doesnt fix it, when logging back into OSX it would still have black silhouettes and all the app windows would be black).
So after the above I decided to just start using a different browser to go to this Fusion MLS website (Safari). Which worked fine for a day, but now when i go to the website, i have no problems, but when i put the computer to sleep, and bring it back, the windows are blacked out and icons silhouetted. So back to safe mode, repair perms, and then it works again. When i do the repair perms, there are usually no verbose things that it says it repairs, sometimes it says something about the PrinterList being 0 instead of 80, but thats it.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, I'm completely dumbfounded....

Now regular Repair Perms doesnt fix it, it has to be Diskwarriors Repair Perms. Also it happens anytime the computer is put to sleep for a length of time and brought back, regardless of whether the Fusion MLS website was gone to.

• Flash movie display issues in IE

Hi Everyone!
This message is a cross-post and I apologize, but there seems
to be more traffic in this forum and I really could use some input
on my question. Here goes:
I'm new to this forum, but have a little experience with
Flash. I'm building a site, mixing flash with css and html on a
webpage (obviously). When I test the pages in Internet Explorer,
the display jumps around quite a bit when I navigate between web
pages (looks fine when clicking through frames in the movies). This
is the first time I've ever seen this (in the few times I've built
flash-heavy sites) and this display issue doesn't happen in
Firefox, Opera or even old Netscape. Unfortunately - most of the
world is using IE, so I need a little help.
I thought perhaps the Flash Satay solution might be the
answer, but I'm not a handy programmer so before I go mucking
around with it, I thought I'd get some thoughts from other flash
users...
Here's the link: mustardseedwoodworking.com/testing The pages
in question (and the only ones that are working, really) are the
home page, the about page, and then galleries one and two.
(Oh finally, I'm viewing these pages both locally, on my
computer and online after being uploaded. I have cable internet
access. I realize Gallery 2 loads a bit more slowly than Gallery 1,
but the primary reason I'm using flash to display the tables is
because I want large, high rez photos. )
Thanks in advance!
Michelle

• 10.5.3 Update display issue. None of the already discussed...

I've calibrated my display at a colour management facility some weeks ago, and took a screen picture of the brightness setting in system preferences... so that i could recall it in case i changed the brightness by accident.
well, after updating couple days ago, i was asked to restart my computer. i did restart, but the computer acted weirdly, taking a lot of time installing extra stuff and eventually auto-restarting extra 2 times before showing my desktop again.
once it did, i noticed right away my screen was a little darker and maybe with lesss contrast. I checked Display preferences (Adjuts display brightness left Uncheked) and with the brightness slider at the same point as usual, it was significantly darker. Actually, i need almost full brightness to get the same white that was 70% brightness before the update.
I see a lot of people with display issues after that update, what is going on?
ps: i'm using 2008 LED 15" MBP

That extra stuff your computer was installing may have been things that Software Update downloaded automatically but didn't install at the time. Don't worry, restarting twice is normal. By chance did you notice a drop in brightness after the update when running on battery power? When you unplug a MacBook Pro, the screen automatically dims a bit to save energy.

• Select list and hidden display issue

Hi all,
I am using a dynamic value select list, which when a button is pressed sets the value of a hidden display item. The next page then uses the hidden display item as part of an SQL query.
It strangely sometimes works and sometimes doesn't - it often struggles with the values in the select list which are over 30 characters.
Does anybody have any idea what's going on?
Many thanks,
Tom

Hi
I just re-ran the debug feature and have found an issue which could be the cause of the problem:
Som of the data items in the dynamic select list have and ampersand (&) symbol. If I run the page once the hidden item displays the value properly:
0.22: binding: ":HIDDENREGION"="HIDDENREGION" value="Tech Comms Media Utilities & Hi-tech" if I re-run the page after navigating around the application for a bit is displays this value:
0.22: binding: ":HIDDENREGION"="HIDDENREGION" value="Tech Comms Media Utilities & Hi-tech"Please notice the "& amp;" bit which has been added... Is there any way of getting rid of this? as it is interfering with the query on the next page.
Many thanks,
Tom

• EMac Still Humming Along - Display Issues Though ... Any Help?

I have a strange display issue to run by the forum here:
Obviously my 2002 eMac is going to be suffering some display issues
with the age the Mac is and all ... but besides the slightly "softer" screen focus
(due to aging tube), I only have one other constant issue with the display.
I know the brightness and contrast are not what they used to be when the eMac
was newer, but here is the issue I am having. At least once a day now (after a few hours
of use), I seem to be constantly adjusting the "brightness" and "contrast" setting to get the
screen to a very usable brighter white field color. Normally now, the screen will get kind
of "dim gray" and less "contrast white" ... without any brightness or contrast range left for
me to adjust (the brightness and contrast settings in the system preferences/display pane
are usually maxed out).
To kind of fix this, what I've noticed lately, is that if I open the system preferences pane
and go to the "display" settings, lower both brightness and contrast down to the lowest settings,
then close out of system preferences .... then open system preferences again, and adjust the brightness and contrast up to slightly higher than the normal middle settings .... the screen brightness and contast are better and I have more "adjustment range.
Here's my question: What would be making the "brightness" and "contrast" settings come back to
a more "normal state" by performing the above sequence? I once thought the screen display was
getting older and as a result, dimming normally. But now I am thinking that it may be more of a "software" issue that isn't keeping the brightness or contrast settings in hold.
I pretty much perform all the basic maintenance procedures on a regular basis (ie: Permissions,
repair, disc repair/check, DiscWarrior directory repair/check, etc.), so am I missing anything
important here?
Any thoughts or ideas what is happening here, or how to make the "brightness" and "contrast"
hold their settings longer?
Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

One other thing to look at is the setting in System Preferences, Universal Access, *Enhance Contrast* slider to make sure it is set to normal before you make the adjustment in Display.
Have you ever tried calibrating your screen? It can also be done under Display?
Generally an increasingly darker display is hardware related caused by heat, as well as the aging of the tube as you have indicated.
I used to like cleaning out the dust from the interior of the eMac periodically using a large soft artist's brush to dust and a running vacuum cleaner to suck up the dust as it flew. Most dust accumulates on the fan blades and it always seemed to run quieter afterwards, though 'quieter' is a relative term on an eMac.
The only tricky bit to this operation is the micro plug that connects to the power button. It is very small and fiddly to reattach.
Only consider the above course of action if your are naturally happy with opening electrical equipment and realize it must be completely disconnected from any power outlet before you even start. Otherwise don't do it if you feel unsure.
Your problem is unusual in your saying that it appears to be software related, from opening and closing your Sys. Prefs dialogue. It makes me wonder if anything is corrupting that file, and the settings it contains? It is peculiar.
I wonder if deleting that particular file would help. With System Preferences closed, in Finder locate,
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
and drag it to the trash.
It will be recreated next time your open Sys. Prefs.
I doubt if that will be the fix, but you might as well try it. As an experiment, instead of doing your described technique, instead try trashing that .plist and see if it achieves the same.
Lastly when was the last time you replaced your PRAM battery? It is a cheap thing to do, and I mention it only because the PRAM chip does control some video settings and removing a possible aberrant voltage from the equation is a one more thing you can do.

• How to open 32 bit PNG with unpremultiplied alpha?

I've got the latest Photoshop CC (2014) and I've been trying to figure out how to import a 32 bit PNG file with an embedded but unpremultiplied alpha channel in it. So this is a PNG image with four channels: Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha. Unfortunately, when I open it in PS, I get a three channel (R, G, B) image where PS has cheerfully premultiplied the alpha into the other channels, as you can see here:
The "glow" is the Alpha channel's unwanted effect.
I know the Alpha channel is still there because if choose Channel-->Split, I get four grayscale images: myimage_red, myimage_green, myimage_blue, and myimage_transparency. So the Alpha information is being kept separate, but PS is being "helpful" and premultiplying it on the open.
Is there a setting or anything else that can overcome this behavior?
Note: The reason for this is that I'm using the "alpha" channel for something else (ambient occlusion) in a CG program and it should not be being used for transparency at this point. (Long story.)

Thank you for your prompt response! I apologize if I misused the term "premultiplied." Here's what I am familiar with the term from: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/compositing-alpha-channels-adjusting-clip.html
With straight (or unmatted) channels, transparency information is stored only in the alpha channel, not in any of the visible color channels. With straight channels, the effects of transparency aren’t visible until the image is displayed in an application that supports straight channels.
With premultiplied (or matted) channels, transparency information is stored in the alpha channel and also in the visible RGB channels, which are multiplied with a background color. The colors of semitransparent areas, such as feathered edges, are shifted toward the background color in proportion to their degree of transparency.
So, here is what I see on my Photoshop screen when I open this image. Note that there are only THREE channels displayed, Red, Green and Blue (and the composite RGB channel). All three of them display transparency, allowing the (in this case checkered) background to show through:
Now, if I select Channels-->Split Channels I get these FOUR images. Note that there is a "Transparency" channel which has my separate information that I want, and there are three color channels, none of which display transparency. This is what I meant by "premultiplied". In the default mode above, Photoshop has "multiplied" each color channel by the "Transparency" channel. This is the behavior I was seeking to avoid. Can you offer any further advice on how to prevent this automatic use of the "Transparency" layers, or is this something that Photoshop does not support at this time?
"Transparency"
"Blue"
"Green"
"Red"

• Screen display issue with InDesign CS4 (Windows)

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4. I can open and use InDesign with no problems, until I try to switch to another application. Then, when I try to go back to InDesign, all I can see is the portion of the bar at the top of the screen that shows the link to Bridge, the view options and a bit of the outline of a palette or two. I have a two monitor setup. Most of the palettes are on the auxillary monitor and they show up just fine. The main display is where I'm having the issue. I can toggle in and out of Photoshop with no display issues. I haven't tried working with anything else from the CS4 package besides InD and Photoshop. This was not an issue with any CS2 product (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash). Nor has it been an issue with any of the other software I am running (so far).
When the display vanishes, I can see the "data" from the program I was trying to toggle out of. For example, if I try to toggle between this page and InD right now, I can see most of this page except for the part of the page obscured by the outline of the control palette (that one reminiscent of pagemaker) and the little bits at the top. I can't see the project I'm working on. I can't see the File/Edit/etc. bar at the top of the page. A Control/Shift/Save will lock up the program completely. Then, I see the "save as" menu box (in addition to the browser screen around it) but the program is locked up. I can close everything on the computer and reboot and open InDesign to resume work--that is until I need to do something like edit a photo to drop into a layout. Then the issue occurs all over again.
Windows machine; XP Pro, service pack 3 build 2600; NVidea GeForce 9600 GT graphics card.

Bob, thanks for the info about the 6.0.2 patch. I'll try grabbing that today. This morning, on the first boot, I can't even see the program when I open it--just the snip of the command palette and part of the very top bar. Very irritating.
Peter, I have tried maximizing, closing, reopening, etc. everything else I can think of. Same issue. I finally just bit the bullet and went back to CS2, rebuilding the current project so I can get the work done by deadline. I'll look for new video drivers this afternoon after I get back on track timewise on this newsletter. Weird that this display issue should just affect the one Adobe program though, and not the others if it is a video driver problem. I didn't do a lot of work in Dreamweaver--just enough to see if it displayed the same weird behaviour. Nope. Nor does Photoshop. Nor does Bridge. Nor does Acrobat. nor does any other software on the machine.

• Snow Leopard 10.6.3 display issues with Autodesk Combustion 2008

Hi!!
Recently i do a update to 10.6.3 and my combustion got some glitches and display issues trying to browse thumbnail folders... even frozing combustion (I know, the software its old, and I know about the incompatibility since 10.6, footage issue, and others, but my boss doesnt care about it)
(Autodesk Maya '10 too, but theres a post for that)
So, in 10.6.2 I can browse previews of folders, but with 10.6.3 combustion comes unstable (yea.. more, hahaha). Apple has posted a new 10.6.3 v1.1 revision today 14th april...
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017
and they said: *"address compatibility issues with OpenGL-based applications"*
Anyone has yet combustion and tested with the new 10.6.3 revision 1.1??? I cant loose a day of job updating, and if its the case, downgrading and resintalling all again... with my boss eyes over me..
Thanks!

Nutshell is to download and install the 64-bit version of MySQL, then try again. If you're still stuck try force re-installing the DBD modules, e.g. cpan -fi DBD::mysql (The perl installed in 10.6.x is 64-bit and doesn't like playing with the 32-bit database.)

• Display issue with vertical windows start menu and dual screen

Hello everyone
I never reported it and I didn't find any information on google or mozilla support about this so here it is :
I am on windows 7 and I set up my windows start menu vertically. I also have 2 screens. These both points are important. If I put the start menu horizontally I do not have the issue anymore, and If I turn off one screen to have the display only on one screen, I do not have the issue anymore, which is a rare setup I guess so it could explain why this bug has never been detected.
HERE IS THE ISSUE
I have display issues on website with a big width, even the default add-ons Manager firefox page doesn't display correctly. Here is a screen shot:
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/368172bugFirefoxDisplay.png
So as you can see the disable and remove button on the right are not displayed, and at the bottom there isn't any scroll bar to scroll ! So I have no way to display the information on the right of the page, and it happens on a lot of other website (gmail, etc)
It is not such a big issue because my start menu is on my left screen and I can move firefox on the right screen to have a correct display.
I still think this is worth reporting this bug. I hope it is clear, feel free to ask questions if you didn't understand.

• IE 7 and Firefox 3 display issues - neither work as expected

hi,
I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out how to solve the 2 display issues I have on IE and Firefox. I can't get either one to work like it's supposed to.
I'm using RH8, Webhelp and it doesn't matter what skin I use (nothing custom, just what is available in RH).
On IE 7.0.5730.13, Webhelp only displays information in the information frame (text) when I attempt to resize the panes. If I just click and move my mouse just a little bit to expand the TOC text magically appears for THAT selected TOC topic only. If I move to another topic in the TOC, I have to do the same thing. And by resize, I mean, I click and move a millimeter and the stuff displays. Otherwise, if I do nothing, the TOC displays as expected but the text frame (contents) is blank.
On Firefox 3.5.6, the TOC pane does not display 100% vertically........it's cut off at the end of the TOC and contains scrollbars to move vertically and horizontally.
So, neither browser really works for me. Am I the only one?
I'm using RH 8.0.0.203
Any advice or suggestions are very much welcome.......

Ahhh, okay.
That actually seems to be providing a bit of a clue to the overall picture I might think. The icon should be kicking off a Dynamic HTML drop-down area.
Since the icon isn't seemingly doing anything in FF, it's logical to me that you somehow have JavaScripting turned off in FF. This can be done using an Add on product, which is why I asked.
It's also likely the reason for the super short TOC display. Typically the TOC depends on JavaScript to work its magick.
My thought here is that if you and Peter can determine where JavaScript is being turned off, you will solve the issues.
Cheers... Rick
