4 odd issues with Leopard Finder

Leopard is great, I just have a few things that seem off.
1) Every-time I restart, I lose the preference for what app opens .wav, .aif, .mp3, and all other audio files. I have to again, right-click, select open with, change-all. Every-time. Can anyone else confirm whether this is universal problem, or just me?
2) New files created by applications (such as Logic 8) don't automatically show-up in Finder folders. I have to close, and reopen the folder to see the new files. I use the list view.
3) After unlocking a file or folder's permissions, I cannot re-lock them. The little icon just doesn't lock. Although if I close the window, and reopen the lock is closed.
4) Automator rename items doesn't work if you set it to run live, so that you can input the text to change.
That's it! = ]

For problem #1 reset the LaunchServices as described in
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetlaunchservices.html and
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031215144430486
#2: Known problem. The Finder's slow to update. You could always relaunch it: OPTION-click its Dock icon and select relaunch. Either that or be patient.
#3: Known problem and I suspect many bug reports submitted. If you want to report this to Apple, send a bug report (or enhancement request) via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.
#4: you answered and I don't use automator, so here's your chance to file a bug report.

    Hi,
    I am facing an issue with implementing Find window. The find window everything is working fine, but when I am opening the form I am facing the following error
    'Error: To retrieve the Information in this block, use menu option view -> query by example -> Enter to invoke enter-query mode, then view -> Query by example > Run to run your query..'
    when I click 'Ok', it is navigating to the FInd window.
    How can I avoid the above error message?
    And also after searching, I navigate to the main window to display the records, but the 'Find' torch icon is not getting enabled, how do I that?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes, I have the QUERY_FIND trigger with the code as 'APP_STANDARD.EVENT('QUERY_FIND');'

  • Odd issue with WHERE clause

    Greetings All,
    I'm having an odd issue with a WHERE clause that I've been working on in a Record Set, $upperdate displays as 2011-02-28, $lowerdate as 2011-02-01, but,
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= $upperdate
    returns no values, and
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
    returns the appropriate values,
    Here is the code for $upperdate and $lowerdate:
    $datemonth = date ('m');
    $dateday = '01';
    $dateday1 = date ('t');
    $dateyear = date ('Y');
    $lowerdate = date("Y-m-d",mktime(0,0,0,$datemonth, $dateday, $dateyear));
    $upperdate = date("Y-m-d",mktime(0,0,0,$datemonth, $dateday1, $dateyear));
    I've also tried the following things to check functionality with no success:
    $upperdate = '2011-02-28';
    $dateday1 = '28';
    BETWEEN...AND... behaves the same as... >=  AND <=
    Thanks for the help in advance!

    Finally worked it out,
    I ended up putting single parentheses around '$lowerdate' and '$upperdate' and it works now.
    It still seems strange, because it worked when I used no parentheses with the variable in:
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
    Also, I had tried the parentheses a few other times without success, so maybe there was something else awry that I fixed inadvertantly while messing around.

  • Exchange 2010 - Issues with Room Finder not showing available rooms.

    Hi,
    We are having issues with room finder not populating the room resources that are available inside a meeting request within outlook 2010. It also appears that there is a drop down box that is present in a lot of the other forums and pages that I have referenced
    for troubleshooting:
    Single Exchange 2010 server version 14.03.0224.002 running all roles. Migrated from previous Exchange 2003 environment and old 2003 server has been decommissioned.
    Room mailbox created and all configured resource policies are working correctly for creating meeting requests. A distribution group was created and the room mailboxes added to this DG as per instructions here: hxxp://exchangeserverpro.com/find-meeting-rooms/
    . We have recreated the OAB and confirmed that the Room mailboxes are part of this list.
    Does anyone have any ideas why the rooms are not showing up in the Room Finder box?
    If I have missed any information please feel free to ask for more info.
    Thanks, all help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
    According to your description, I understand that room finder cannot show available room in Outlook 2010.
    If I misunderstand you concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
    I want to double confirm whether it works before, or it can’t work after decommission Exchange 2003? How about other Outlook version?
    The offline address book (OAB) is generated by Microsoft Exchange Server. In order for the Room Finder feature to work, the OAB must be generated by Exchange 2010 or a later version.
    Please run Get-OfflineAddressBook | FL Identity,Server to double check OAB generation server. Also, run Get-OabVirtualDirectory | FL to check URL for current OAB VD and force update OAB.
    Then open Test E-mail AutoConfiguration to double check whether Outlook get correct URL.
    After above complete, please try to switch to Send/Receive tab, click Send/Receive Groups, and then click Download Address Book.
    Thanks

  • Odd issue with transitions...Help!

    OK, I have an odd issue with the transitions going on within Imovie.
    In this case I have the "Photo album" theme.
    About every three slides the "camera" pulls back from one picture (pic 1) and goes in to the other photo (pic 2).
    2/3 of the way into the video the (pic 2) photo is late, so you actually see the switch in the middle of the transition. Pic one is in its place until about half way through.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Just found this related thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1903498&start=0&tstart=0
    In there, they suggest a work around using Precision Editor on the transition. I will try this tonight.

  • File sharing issue with Leopard and Windows XP

    I had no problem with file sharing (see the Windows machine on Leopard) before I reinstall the XP and update to SP3.
    Now I cannot get the XP shared disk displayed on Leopard Finder. I looked through some guides and check these:
    Both the two laptops are in the same workgroup called "WORKGROUP";
    XP firewall disabled;
    XP Guest Account enabled.
    But I just cannot get the Windows icon back to the left column of my Finder. Have I missed something? Any body with any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Same problem but almost the reverse. 10.5.2 server, windows clients file browsing, opening and saving speed is great, but our 4 iMac clients (Leopard also) really, really slow to generate thumbnail views of files and open them. Happens across several shares, seems to be a problem with AFP, although now after disabling AFP on some of the shares, it is happening on SMB as well. I have read several other discussions on this forum that attempt to deal with AFP performance issues, but none provide a real solution. Now that it is also happening with the SMB protocol as well I am getting a bit concerned.
    Any advice or even a link to more info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Graphic Issues with Leopard - iMac 24" White GeForce 7300 GT

    Upon installing Leopard, I've noticed several graphics issues and general lag and delayed response with the interface. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.16ghz White early 2007, 3gb of RAM, with the GeForce 7300GT card. I have Time Machine disabled, and Spotlight has fully indexed.
    When installing Leopard, I did an "Erase and Install" and have manually installed my Applications after the Leopard install. I'm using only a few applications that are all "Leopard ready" and have a relatively clean system at this point. I have also cleaned the PRAM, per the recommendations in some of the threads ive read, which didn't seem to correct the issue in this case.
    It seems that any time I run any type of video or graphical application, such as Photo Booth, World of Warcraft, iChat, etc, I get a large amount of lag and slow response with the interface. Windows respond very slowly, and the applications freeze for 15-20 seconds. Even when not engaging any applications, opening folders in the finder as well as the dock appear to stall and respond very slowly.
    Aside from these issues, Leopard has performed very well and I have had no other issues. Quicklook and coverflow all seem to respond very quickly and smoothly. My guess is that it may be driver related as it seems to be centered around items that are engaging the video card, though it is strange how some graphical effects seem to work smoothly while others are rather choppy. I have been watching the Activity Monitor and there don't appear to be any processes that are sucking up CPU, and nothing obvious that may be reducing performance.
    I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar to this on similar hardware, or possibly may know what the culprit could be. My best guess, again, is that it could be the drivers or firmware with this specific hardware that I'm using.
    Thanks for your time

    I've had the same graphics issues with my white iMac 24 (serial no starts W8638), but with the GeForce 7600 card. AppleCare got me to do all the usual stuff (reset PRAM, clean Leopard install etc) but problems continued. The usual pattern is that after a while horizontal lines appear (usually in Safari) and things deteriorate form then on until there is so much pixellation that I have to turn off and back on.
    Yesterday I ran for several hours using SMCFanControl to set the fans to max and had no problems, so my suspicion is that the additional graphics requirements of Leopard are over-heating the graphics card or logic board.
    The Apple engineer took the machine away today and said they'll probably replace the logic board and graphics card (I think they can't change one without the other in the iMac?).
    Will be a few days but I'll report back on what repairs they make and whether they solve the problem. My fear is that any changes they make will have no effect if its a design problem and the card is just not up to the job without over-heating. Though it could be the card just needs a good clean
    Has anyone else tried increasing fan speed?

  • Odd issue with SoundBlaster 24-bit: Scratchy voices(only)

    I bought a SoundBlaster 24-bit a while back, and oddly, I'm only really having one issue with the sound in most games: The voice. Anytime someone talks it's unbelievably scratchy, and overly loud. Does this in Halo, Sacred, Serious Sam 2, etc. Everything else is fine, all other sound effects and music come through clearly(and at the appropriate volume). Has anyone else experienced anything like this, and if so, did you find a way to fix it's
    I've updated the drivers, so all that it good. With it being just one piece of audio(across all these games) I'm just not sure what approach to attempt first. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    DM

    You might try a latency of 28. There are folks on the forum with much more experience with this issue than I have, so if you want additional advice, I recommend that you post a new thread on that question.
    DigitalMan wrote:
    Ok, I finally found something that looks low-end enough for me to understand(Double Dawg) and it's saying that the latency for the sound card is already at 64. Now, as I understand it I am go mess with this no. going by increments of 32? Do I need to go up, or down? I'd try it, but frankly I'm scared that it'll mess my system up, so I thought I'd ask first.

  • Colour Management issue With Leopard and PS CS3

    Hi Everyone,
    Since I have installed Leopard I am having colour management issues with Photoshop CS3 and my Canon i9950 printer.
    My screen is calibrated with a Spyder and I used to ask Photoshop (in 10.4.11) to manage colour when printing and used the Spyder profile. Everything came out as I saw it on screen.
    Now in leopard when I do the same thing everything comes out too yellow on the print. If I ask Photoshop to let the printer manage the colour it is too red. If I use the default colour management (photoshop managing the colour and it choosing the colour space it is better, but still too yellow).
    Photoshop gives the hint to turn off colour management in the printer but there is no option for this and it also said the same thing before of course (when it worked in 10.4.11).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    You need to use the correct printer profile for the paper you're using. If the printer didn't come with any pre-built profiles, check Canon's web site to see if they have any profiles available for your printer that you can download.
    Printer profiles are very specific. You can't take take a profile for glossy Epson paper and expect it to work very well for Canon glossy paper.

    I'm having exactly the same problem, only my printer is a Canon Pixma iX4000. The colour is all bleached out, it looks exactly like when you've accidentally printed an RGB file on a CMYK printer, and at first I thought that was what I had done, but it isn't. This is very frustrating, I've spent all day going through the manuals, recalibrating etc, but no luck. This is a brand new Mac Pro and printer, but if its not going to print what I see on screen it's just expensive junk.
    I wasn't sure if the problem was Leopard or the printer or CS3...

  • Big issues with Leopard and writing to NAS units or Windows servers

    Quick run down of the issues
    1st client has a number of G5's all running 10.5.2
    NAS units running embedded Windows SBS 2003 or Windows Storage .
    All shares have worked fine before the macs were upgraded to Leopard.
    Now the macs can see the shares, mount and write to the folders. But immediately afterwards all inherited permissions are stripped from the folders/files and only the owner of the file/folder can access them. All other mac users have no access. It seems that Leopard is ignoring the inherited permissions of the share and just applying its own.
    2nd Client
    Number of imacs running 10.5.2. Can see the mac shares on the server running Windows SBS 2003 fine. The minute any files are copied you get the progress of the items being copied, seems to appear on the server and then just hangs.
    In most circumstances the copying crashes the whole server.
    Have tried binding the imacs to AD, but no joy. SMB sharing (with Appletalk turned off) dosent help either.
    Somewhere there seems to be some gremlins with AFP and windows shares
    Anyone have similar issues or bright ideas ?

    Alright I'm running into the same issue with my iMac 10.5.2 connecting to windows server 2003 r2. I'm about to go nuts, I can log on to the server, open files manipulate them and sometimes I'm able to save that file back to server but I'm unable to transfer almost anything new to the server, (I can create new folders though). When you try to transfer something to the server I get "progress of the items being copied, seems to appear on the server"... then it hangs, a corrupt file is left on the server. If you try and open that file I get an error message on my mac, "OS X is currently using this file" on a pc it will say the file is corrupt. I'm forced to carry my psd files on a flash drive and walk to coworkers machines to upload it to the server... (haven't had time to set up parallels). I'm the only mac in the office and I'm seeing why I've been so spoiled at past jobs where its 100% macs.

  • HELP: Mail issues with Leopard

    I have been having an issue with Mail since I upgraded to Leopard. I am getting the following message when I wake my Mac from sleep:
    There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “[email protected]” or try again. The server error encountered was: The server “mail.mac.com” cannot be contacted on port 143.
    Does anyone know why this might be happening? Mail seems to work fine otherwise...

    I had update problems with my PowerBook G4 as well. In my case the update stalled at Writing Package Receipt-it was installing 4 packages so I am not sure which one failed-but about this Mac showed 10.5.2 version-however the receipts were not anywhere -either in Software Updates/Installed Updates or in Library/Receipts/boms or in Console Logs-therefore, I concluded that the Update was only partial. I was unable to update it to completion using the independently downloaded Combo updates. So........., I restarted with the install DVD and did an Archive and Install (it reverted back to 10.5), then ran Software Update. It installed 7 items some of them relating to iTunes, iWork, iLife, QuickTime etc, including the combo 10.5.2 updater. It took an hour or two but everything finally installed. After that I ran Software Update again and it installed the Graphic Update. Now everything is fine except Permissions Verify/Repair takes quite long.

  • G5 fan issues with Leopard

    I've had my G5 for many years, and despite the many complaints by others about unusual fan activity, I've not had one issue until I installed Leopard. Now, for the first time, the fan is changing speed frequently (every few minutes). It is not like a jet taking off, but it gasps every once in a while. Is this an improvement with Leopard, something I can adjust, or is there a problem with Leopard?

    Hi Jack
    Have you tried [resetting the SMU|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1436]?
    Not sure if resetting the PRAM/NVRAM is relevant. I have seen posts that that can help when the fans are problematic but from what I've read at Apple Support there seems to be little stored in there which controls the fans (for instance [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US] and [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1242]). But I guess it never hurts to try.
    You can also try one of several fan control utilities out there, such as [smcFanControl2|http://homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eidac/software/smcfancontrol2/ index.html].

  • Disk Utilities/Permissions Issues with Leopard

    What is wrong with Leopard's permissions? I have had numerous permissions issues, and had to reformat my two disk drives and Archive & Install Leopard on my startup disk after a Tiger to Leopard Upgrade.
    Now when I run Disk Utilities and Repair Permissions (which I do routinely), what used to take a minute or two in Tiger now takes a half hour (or longer) in Leopard?
    I ran Disk Utilities on my MacPro and it has taken nearly 25 minutes and is still going. My MacBook Pro is estimating the time at 1-minute remaining (where it started), and it has also been going for 25 minutes plus. I would like to go to bed, and don't want to leave my MBP running over night if I don't have to.
    This is a major issue and one which Apple needs to address immediately. I trust I am not the only User having this issue, is this the case?

    No your not the only one. It's been reported throughout the discussions. Appears that some of the errors reported in disk utility will not effect performance. Still, I expect that something is being observed and worked on as an update..

  • My visit to the Genius Bar regarding video issues with Leopard

    Having video hang up issues with imove 08 and viewing videos on my webgallery. We opened a video on my web gallery on 3 computers with Leopard and two computers with Tiger at the Genius Bar. The Tiger machines allowed immediate playback where the Leopards took 3-5 minutes to view. Crazy!
    Also noticing fickering with my footage in imovie 08 which I never had with Tiger. Plus when I delete a clip in my project, my workspace goes completely black and I must go into another project open it, then back to the first project and it reappears....Very frustrating.

    DVD Drive is dead. Hopefully was the issue.
