4GB nano repeatedly killing Monster iCar, Griffin, now iFusion?

I bought a 4GB iPod nano in september with the Monster iCar am/fm stereo adapter off the apple website. I set everything up per the instructions and it worked fairly nice for roughly 3 weeks and then one day the iCar adapter stopped transmitting anything, the ipod continued to recieve a charge through it and the stereo went from static to silence when the ipod was plugged in, just no music, no matter any volume.. ok, return - replace. Also, tested friends iPod with it and got same behavior - he has had his own monster iCar for an ipod mini going on over a year now no problem.
While waiting for the Monster iCar stereo adapter to be replaced I ended up picking myself up a Griffin stereo adapter which I liked better with the telescoping arm.. again, 3-4 weeks of flawless playback and then suddenly one day exact same behavior - silence, no sound no matter volume. replaced the griffen easily at target and the new one worked.. now the second one stopped working one day. worked the next day and then hasnt worked since. its dead all over again.
At this point I'm beginning to believe I have extremely bad luck with my car stereo adapters. However, for Xmas I also recieved an iFusion portable speaker system to use while im at work. in the past several days it has become flakey, sometimes it will not work once the nano is plugged in and I have to wait awhile before trying again and its fine.
I've reset my ipod nano a few times during all this, yes i'm positive i've checked my volume settings, i've tried other ipods with the same devices and once the device is dead, its dead for everyone. I cannot see any damage to the connectors. in every case, the ipod continues to recieve a charge from the device, just no music. with the stereo transmitters(griffin/monster), the device is clearly transmitting since turning it on results in static to nothing and yes, i've tried changing the stations it transmits on.
has anyone else seen this? are all these accessory devices for ipod truly flakey? is the nano really killing things? perhaps a voltage problem? I realize the Griffin did not specify it was compatible with the Nano explicitly but the Monster was sold on Apples website as a nano accessory and the iFusion advertises compatibility... but still, any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

I got A 4GB nano for x-mas and bought a monster icar for it and it worked for one week. After that it does the same exact thing you are going through. If you find out anything please let me know. I also went and swapped mine out for a new one and it has never worked so I am screwed. Please HELP!!!!!

  • Skipping songs and only letting me put 300 songs onto my 4GB nano

On my 2nd generation nano ipod, it will play a couple songs and then skip a lot. Certain songs will skip and certain songs will play. any suggestions?
My other problem is it will only let me hold about 300 songs on my 4GB nano. Right now i have 326 songs and it says " 2.12 GB required, 47.58 MB remaining" I'v had his ipod for about 2 years.

While I think the first may be related to the second, I will pass on it.
The song count can vary widely depending on the format and quality of encoding. What are your songs encoded as, and what bitrate/quality are you using?
Are all your songs encoded the same? Easy way to check that is to enable the "kind" column (right click on the column headings) in your main iTunes display then sort by that column. Quality/bitrate can be seen using the "bit rate" one.

  • Resetting The Volume Limit On A 4GB Nano

The iPod history in my family goes like this: when my daughter was 12, I bought her a Shuffle for Christmas. She loved it, used it often and I saw her with it more than twice over that year, which to that point was a miracle for ANYthing I bought her for Christmas, birthday, etc...
So, the next year, I bought her this 4GB Nano for Christmas. As a side deal, I gave her $20 for her Shuffle and I became a subscriber to the iPod culture.
Last week, I won an iPod Touch, and looked at this prize not as mine but as my stepping stone to my Nano, planning to give the Touch to my now-14-year-old daughter.
This transaction happened and yesterday as I downloaded my tunes into my new Nano, I noticed that there is a volume lock. Being a fan of The Who (the band which I believe still holds the record for loudest rock concert), I had to reset that to the highest level possible. When doing so, I found there is a lock code, a four-digit security setting. Great, I thought . . .
So I asked my daughter for the combination and she said that that was something she had been trying for a long time to remember. She then said it is the combination to her seventh-grade locker. I asked what that is and she said she couldn't remember. I got a little miffed and complained to her about the bad deal I was getting in this (you know, this is the acting job part of parenting where the kid is supposed to learn).
Anyway, the big question is, is there a way to re-set that combination without knowing the combination? Thank you for any insight; you are my only hope!

To reset the combo, you will need to select the iPod in iTunes and click Restore.
This will format the iPod and reinstall the iPod OS.
Then just sync the music back to it.

Ask Pete Townshend about that but you better speak *L O U D L Y* because he's pretty much deaf from that.

  • Song Capacity for 4gb Nano

I am currently thinking of purchasing the 4gb Nano. It states a 1000 song capacity, does anyone know, if you do not use it for photos, will it store more songs?

Try not to think in terms of song quantity. It's merely an estimate.
There is no limit on the number of songs it can hold. You are limited by the available space on the iPod Nano. Apple estimates the 1000 song capacity based on all of your tracks being 128kbps AAC files of about 4 minutes each.
If your tracks are encoded at a lower bitrate, or are typically shorter than 4 minutes each... then you'll fit more songs.
If they are encoded at a higher bitrate, and are typically longer than 4 minutes each... you'll fit less songs.
Photos and music share the same available space on the iPod. If you don't use photos, you'll have more space for songs. If you do use photos, you'll have less space for songs.

  • Just got new 4gb nano-where can I get dl for 7.4 version of itunes?

I just bought the 4gb nano, we already have the 30gb classic with 7.3 version of itunes but I need 7.4 or higher for the new nano. I checked the forums and I noticed all of the problems people are having with 7.5 so I want to dl the 7.4 version but I can't find the 7.4 version in the apple downloads. I have a Windows xp and I'm not sure if I have a service pack requires for 7.431 or whatever the one before 7.5 is. Can anyone give me a link to dl 7.4 and let me know if there were any problems with this version? I'm not even sure how it works after I dl 7.4. Will I have to remove the older version and re-install or will it automatically upgrade? I am nervous about losing all of my songs in my library or having problems since I am not that comp savvy. Can anyone help?

  • 4gb nano will only accept 285 songs

My daughter was helping me set up and download songs from my itunes library on my computer to my new 4gb nano. The screen says 285 songs from my computer are over 5 gigs. What's the scoop? New nano and just downloaded software. Should hold up to 1,000 +/-. Is there a way to scroll through the library to check the file size on each song? How do I solve this problem?
    thank you, new iPod user

it also depends what format you copy the songs into iTunes. If they're copied in Lossless format(specifically Apple Lossless) they take up like 15 to 35Mb per song!!. I had same problem with same iPod Nano 4G and tht was the problem. the best format is MPeg audio files.

  • 4GB Nano, cannot get 1000 songs

I have a 4gb nano, currently 73 songs are taking up 1.81GB of memory. Most of my songs are imported through iTunes from my personal CD's. What am I doing wrong?

Your songs might not be in a correct format, taking up more space on your iPod than usual.
    See this for details:
My song files are too big for my small iPod
If everything seem to be appering okay with how the file format and encoding is, etc., then try restoring your iPod.

  • 4GB Nano appears as 2GB !

My 4GB Nano works fine when connected to my old Windows 2000 Pro desktop. However, when connected to my new Windows XP Professional desktop, iTunes see it as having only 2GB! The Nano itself correctly shows 4GB. I have tried all the R's (including reformatting!) and have the latest updater and still have the problem. There must be a registry entry or something on my new desktop that is screwed. Any suggestions as to how to get this sorted please?
    Thanks,
    Cliff

OK, problem fixed. There was a network drive somehow mapped to the same drive letter as the iPod. I removed this drive mapping and the other 2GB appeared back on my iPod. It only took me 2 days!

  • IPod Nano repeat setting is off but playlist repeats

My iPod Nano repeat setting is "off" but playlist repeats.  How do I stop this?

If you select a playlist, even without the repeat turned on, when you get to the end of the playlist it automatically starts over (just like your car audio system will play track one again after it finishes the last song on a CD).

  • My iPod's OFF/On switch is not working and I have checked over internet that this problem is very common with iPod Nano 6th generation, my iPod is now out of warranty period. What shall i do now?? Please Suggest!!

You can do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store for a fee, get a 3rd party site to repair it, sell it for parts, or get a new one.
