4hr30 battery life to 2hr30 after following power saving wiki

So I thought I might be able to squeeze a little more time out of my laptop. What an awful mistake :-(
I followed
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ma … management
Which led me to
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Powerdown
and
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Power_management
and apparently this is "considered by many to be the de facto utility for power saving"
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop_Mode_Tools
I installed powerdown-git, laptop-mode-tools, and edited /etc/modprobe.d/audio_powersave.conf, /etc/sysctl.d/laptop.conf and /etc/udev/rules.d/70-wifi-powersave.rules
And my battery life dropped by over 2 hours after editing . After reverting the changes and rebooting, my battery life is now at 3 hours from full charge. I've still lost 90~105 minutes after removing everything. Not sure what to do now other than a reinstall, which I would really rather not do.
No, my brightness setting isn't any different from before. It's been the same throughout and, a little off-topic, I've never been able to change it. I press the brightness buttons, the brightness bar goes up/down, but there's no difference. I tried pommed-light (a recommended by the wonderful wiki) and that failed to do anything, including swapping the fn key functions. So, if anyone can shed some light onto getting pommed-light to actually work or enabling the screen brightness buttons on a MacBookPro10,1 that would be fantastic.
Edit: Also, noticing a long time between entering login details in cinnamon and getting into the desktop. It used to blackscreen for about a second, now it takes about 5s, which is longer than booting takes.

Did you *uninstall* the programs you'd installed? Did you check what automatic setup they perform as part of the installation process, e.g. Arch's ".install" files?
Hard drives are fickle about which power-saving modes they support, so that's something to check, especially since you indicate a slowdown.

  • My battery life decreased dramatically after updating to ios 6.1.2.  How do I delete and go back to previous iso?

I have iphone 5; my battery life decreased dramatically after updating to ios 6.1.2.  How do I delete and go back to previous iso?

Downgrading the iOS isn't supported and wouldn't help even if you could.   There have been reports of decreased battery life after every update since iOS 1.0.1.
There are lots of things that can be done including reinstalling push email accounts. basic phone reset (pressing both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears), and restoring the phone with and without a backup.

  • Battery life greatly decreased after ios 5.0.1 update on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S

Really disappointing considering my iPad 2 battery life used to be great, lasting up to a week with no recharge necessary.  Now my iPad battery life drops 1% every few minutes of casual use.
My iPhone 4S battery life under ios 5.0 used to be decent and could hold the charge well when idle only losing 1% every few hours as long as it was just sleeping.  Now I am losing 10 - 15% every few hours when it is just sleeping.  When I surf the net, I lose 1% each minute! This is with pretty much every battery wasting feature turned off except Siri.
I'm not sure how Apple managed to exacerbate a problem affecting tens of millions of people around the world with a fix that they've had weeks to test.  I mean they could've just emailed me and asked me to test it before they released it to the public, I could've told you within a few minutes that it didn't work.
Apple consistenly have problems with each new iPhone release.  They just can't seem to get it 100% right.  The camera, antenna and speed have vastly improved over the iPhone 4, but arguably the most important feature has taken a nose dive in quality.  I can't believe they marketed this phone as having IMPROVED battery life?  I don't think one person will agree that that is an accurate statement.

Do you have wifi syncing turned on? Is your itunes always open?
There is a glitch with the iPad where, as long and anytime iTunes is open, it'll sync...like once an hour or some such rate.
Originally the wifi syncing was only supposed to take place if the device is plugged into power, but that's not the case. If I have my iTunes open my iPad will try to sync almost continuously.
So check your wifi sync and iTunes settings (my iTunes used to be set to open automatically when the device is connected, I had to change it to only open when I do it manually because in the course of an evening's surfing my iPad opened my iTunes and started to sync three different times until I turned it off)
If you have iCloud syncing enabled that may also be contributing to your battery issues. I don't sync over iCloud, I tried it but after it ate all my contacts, I stopped using it. However, if the same glitch is present, the device trying to continually sync even when not plugged into power, that could also be part of your drain.

  • Battery Life EVEN WORSE After 5.1 Update

I didn't think it was possible, but my battery life is even worse after upgrading to ios 5.1
I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, but it's an unlocked phone purchased in the US, and I'm now in Israel, so I don't know if Orange or any local carrier will exchange it with me unfortunately.
    Suggestions?
I'm going to call Apple but I also doubt they will fedex me a new one. They need to hurry up and build their Haifa store here already...

Tentatively seems to have worked.. I was trying to avoid it but I did it and I think it worked. Thanks!

  • Battery life for iPhone4 after ios5 update

I updated my iPhone 4 to ios5 this week and the change in battery life is shocking. I've used my phone for an hour and 13 minutes straight since taking it off charge and it's burnt through 32% of my battery.
This week I've been reading all the tips to improve my battery but nothing has helped so far. I'm fed up, my phone is only 10 months old and the ios5 update is obviously a poor quality release (I'm a software project manager).
What can I do?  Are Apple looking into this issue? Has the cause been identified or is there a massive software vs hardware conflict with this release.
While typing this I e lost another 3% in 7 minutes.
    Any hope appreciated.
    Thanks

I totallly agree. Am iPhone 4 user and have been since its launch. Have had all previous versions and every iOS so pretty familiar with what constitues normal battery life on these things. I have a daily routine that sees an almost identical amount of email use, some wifi, some 3g, some location services every day. Since updrading to iOS5 last week I haven't been able to get through the day without flattening the battery. Have resorted to turning off everything I can think of - location services, bluetooth, wifi etc. Under my old regime these were always on. The phone is still not getting through the day. Based on hours usage I would estimate that the battery life has dropped by about 30%. Thats being generous. Looking at whats going on I suspect this is a sloppy release of iOS5 and I'll bet there'll be a quick update. One thing I would be interested to know is if you are syncing to Exchange because I have a sneaking suspicion this is wasting loads of cycles as I seem to now be seeing loads of minor changes to my calendar notifications that didn't used to hapen under the old iOS. Trouble is, if I turn that off I might as well go back to a pager!
    All ideas gratefully received.

  • Battery life is pathetic after installing iOS 5

The battery life for my iPod Touch 3rd gen. has been incredibly bad ever since I installed iOS 5, when it was first released a few months ago. The 5.0.1 update didn't help, either. I used to be able to comfortably charge my iPod "just" once a day, but now it's often more than two full charges that are required per day. My usage patterns, of course, have not changed over the past few months compared to when I first got the iPod Touch.
Is there anything I can do to improve battery life, or check its capacity, since I've had it for a while and perhaps its capacity has gone down?
Also, the device's performance has gotten much slower since installing iOS 5, too. I heard that the Notification Center is a primary cause for those problems, so I disabled most things in it, except for Mail and Weather since those are important to me.

I haven't done any scientific testing, but I'd say that I can get maybe two to four hours if I'm just browsing the web, when it used to be perhaps upwards of six to eight hours a day. I do indeed do some gaming, but most of my time is spent on todo items and web browsing. I have definitely not changed how I use the device since I first bought it, which was about two or three years ago, so if there is a noticeable difference then I will perceive it. Also, nearly every day I use the device from a full charge (charged overnight) to automatic shutoff (0% battery), because it hits the "red zone" for the battery quite quickly (about an hour of usage) then the remaining time is spent in the red zone.
For some reason, the battery also leaks quite significantly when I'm not even using it, which from what I understand is also a fairly common occurrence with iOS 5, as well. I think that this is actually where most of the battery life goes to, rather than from me actually using the device.

  • Battery Life / Recharging issues after latest Update

I bought the Xperia Z2 beginning of April and it was fine. The battery lasted for about 2 days with Active Hotspot continuously running for approx. 18 hours. After updating to the latest software version, the phone runs pretty hot and with Active Hotspot on, while hardly using other programs, the battery is empty after 8 hours, despite having the phone always on the charger. Several times an error message pops up, telling that the phone consumes more power, then the (original) charger is providing! Is that update rather a downgrade? Or is it the intention to get the Hotspot literally hot?

Hi there!! I've been using my Xperia z for the past one year. Till last week I didn't had any problem but now I'm not sure what happened to my mobile.. I have listed all the issues below. I really need your help and support to solve this issue and please get me a permanent fix..
    1. Battery is draining too fast(very fast)
    2. Mobile is always hot even if I don't use. When start using apps like game, browsing or watch any video, I feel that I'm holding an induction stove in my hand.
    3. "Throw" option is not working
    4. When I make a call I don't hear anything through earpiece rather I'm using loudspeaker speaker.
Plzzz help me and get me a solution.. I'm afraid to take my mobile to service center.. Please advise what needs to be done..

  • Different battery life on x61 with different power manager software

hi, i recently noticed a bunch of new drivers for my x61 (xp pro sp3) so i installed the power manager 1.52. i immediately noticed the battery usage dropping visibly faster than before (about 1% each 2 min on a 6 cell). i remembered when i had win 2k on this thing and it did the same thing after a bios upgrade.  back then i reverted to the prior bios and the problem persisted. this was one of the reasons i finally went to xp (this was last year).
so this timei tried the prior version of power manager and went back to version 1.48 until my battery usage was normal.
during each driver change i restarted the system upon uninstalling and rebooted upon installation of new power manager software. i also tried different acpi drivers and bios. every other driver change i shut down the machine and pulled the battery out and cycled the battery to make sure. i also tried different usage profiles, including my custom ones and they had no effect on battery consumption - which was alarmingly high: 2:30 at 90% when i usually get more than double of real usage time
nothing i did would give me my normal battery consumption back except rolling back to version 1.48 of the power manager.
has anybody else experienced this? any ideas as to what the problem could be? thanks in advance

ok, i can confirm its a software issue. the problem was high battery consumption  (-1% every two minutes on max batt and dimmest screen) after updates to power manager driver on an x61 running xp pro sp3. reverting to prior drivers would not solve the issue.
the only solution was restoring the system using acronis and problem solved. my battery consumption is normal now.
i think its a combination of drivers and windows updates that breaks the power manager. ive encountered this problem several times under win2k and xp.
the only solution i found is reverting to a prior install or a clean install

  • Battery Life Worse Now After iOS 6.1 Update on iPhone 5

Bought & using a new iPhone 5 since late December. Updated last night on the phone itself to 6.1 iOS. Now I am finding that the battery is draining considerably faster than before. I have seen the battery meter actually go down 1% at a time from when I unlock the screen to even swipe a couple of pages of apps and send one or two texts.
I did the expected battery-saving techniques of lowering the brightness, turning off the LTE and iCloud and Location Services. Manually push data for email was set always for me. But still battery dropping like a hot potato.
Any tips and/or ideas? I read on another thread about resetting the phone. Would that work? Needless to say I am aggravated and disappointed as this is my first new and current smartphone in over 5 years. And now this is all happening. Ugh!

The problem is more than likely being cause by corruption that occured during the iOS install or in the backup that was used to restore the phone after the update.
    Standard troubleshooting is:
    Re-boot the phone
Restore the phone from your backup
Restore the phone as a new device.
One of the 3 should fix the problem.

  • Battery life seems diminished after 10.6.3 update

My battery power seems to be diminished quite a bit since the 10.6.3 update. I used to get between 3 and 4 hours when just web surfing and email (nothing else active) and the screen brightness turned down to about 60%. Since the update I'm getting closer to 2.
I did a battery recalibration but still only getting around 2 hours on a fully charged battery.
    Istat says:
    Health: 95%
    Cycles:488
I've had the MBP for about a year and 5 months. Is it natural to get this sort of diminished performance?
    Thanks
    M.

My system does not require that "fix". It does not show up in my software update.
If you read down on that site you will see this:
    Here's what's changed
"In order to receive all the improvements listed above, some systems require the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update, which is available via Software Update.
_Tip: If you don't see the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update in Software Update, you don't need to install it._
Note: The Supplemental Update is for any system that was updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, build 10D573. It is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6.1 or 10.6.2, and it is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, v1.1."

  • Battery life is decreased after upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion.

I have upgraded my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 to OS X Mountain Lion from Lion 10.7.4.
It has great new features, but my battery perfomance seems to be degraded after I have installed it.
Any suggestion for getting around it?

Hi, I posted earlier that my battery had been reduced by 50%. It is approximately one week since I installed the Mountain Lion. My battery is actually back to normal now! I got almost 11 hours on my macbook Air 13" i7 yesterday (minimal use). Which is about the same as before the upgrade. So it seems that the system needs a couple of days to adjust/index/whatever..
The system is working perfectly now, including my battery

  • Battery life still poor after replacement with brand new internal battery!

The geniuses at the A-store can't find any hardware issues. The battery still only lasts 2-3 hours whereas before I could watch 2 full-lenth movies and still have 20% power left.
Fresh install of Snow Leopard makes no difference nor does booting from an external drive.
Reset PRAM, SMC, etc. but makes no difference. Does anybody knows what causes this sudden drain?
Also, will I be able to get my money back for the battery replacement since it made no difference (the old one was fine at 324 cycles and probably tossed.

    Have you calibrated the battery?

  • My iphone 4s not turnong on...pluged the charger display shows red battery sts bar but after holding power and home button it doesnt reboot:(

    Hi,,
Read post on this but tried holding power and home button the screen balckens out and then when pressed power button the display show red battery sts bar...need help as not used my gadget for the past two days and i m feeling lonely...pls pls reply to my mail id [email protected]
    pls  pls

What on earth do you mean by shattered? Can you post a picture?
It's always possible that the connector was damaged but not to the point that chargers wouldn't work. With continued use, the damage got worse until the connector could no longer feed electricity into the phone.
It sounds to me like you need to get your phone replaced but only the folks at an Apple store can say for sure.
