4k footage in 1080p project for SmoothCam

Guys,
I have a 4k footage 2:1 (4096x2048) which I want to use SmoothCam to smooth out some bumps. The project setting is 1080p HD. The reason for using 4k in a 1080p project is that I have a big enough picture space for SmoothCam to do rotation and translation(my final product would be BlueRay). Now the problem I'm having is that the 4K image seems to rescale and fit to the monitor window. I was hoping to have full size 4K image in 1080p monitor with much area go over the border so I can see how much I can scale down after SmoothCam has been applied.
Does anyone know what's going on?
Thanks.
Shaun

I found that I can make Video Motion scale to 100% instead of default fit to screen 43%. Answered my own question. Thanks!

  • What is best workflow for interpret NTSC footage into PAL project?

Premier Pro CC cutting a film for HD broadcast TV. Majority of footage shot PAL at 1080p, so I made a 1920 x 1080 25p project. Is it okay to make a progressive project for broadcast? Or should I switch to interlaced?
I am supposed to deliver an NTSC tape to the network.
Some footage is 29.97 and 23.97.  Is it okay to Interpret footage in bin as 25p PAL and then cut it into my sequence.  It seems to play properly; I'm just concerned about problems in the final output. I've read that people duplicate the clip, then interpret to 25fps PAL, and leave the original NTSC alone.  This sounds like a good idea. Working on a MacBook Pro Mountain Lion.
When I output the final QT movie, what are the best settings and codec to use for the final
Hi-Res output which I will bring on a drive to a post house to do final CC and layback to tape?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Combining 1080i and 1080p HDV footage on single timeline, for SD output?

    Hi All
Help! I'm a cameraperson/director who was has just shot a largeish doccie project on a Sony HVR-V1E. My technical background is in stills, so I hope you'll forgive some ignorance here.
BACKGROUND: The vast majority of the footage was shot HDV using the 25fps prog scan mode on the camera. I really don't like interlace jaggies and I was advised that this was the obvious way of getting away from them, and made for very useable footage when output as standard def interlaced PAL. However, some footage for the project was also shot on a small Sony HDR-HC9 (PAL) camera. The HC9 has no progressive scan mode, i.e. this footage is 1080i50.
The primary broadcaster for this doccie requires delivery on Beta SP, standard def PAL. Because of the 16:9 aspect ratio of the HDV format, the film will be delivered letterboxed, black above and below.
THE MAIN QUESTION: We'll be editing in FCP 6.0 . My editor is more of an Avid person, and is concerned that without proper setup we'l end up with issues later on when we downsize to SD, especially because we'll be combining prog-scanned footage with interlace-scanned footage. We need to know whether to set the sequence presets as HDV 1080i50 or HDV 1080p25.
We're planning to edit as an HDV project and downscale to SD using Compressor. I know this downscaling is likely to take a long time, however we've been advised that editing in HDV is less intensive than going the ProRes route, and the quality of the Compressor downscale is better than that of the other 'within FCP' options.
I've been advised to set the sequence preset to i50, but I'm not sure if Compressor has a harder time resizing interlaced footage than progressive footage. Common sense tell me it'll be easier to resize a progressive frame and then split it into two interlaced fields without artifacts, than resizing and regenerating interlaced fields from 1080 down to PAL dimensions. However, if the sequence preset is p25, will FCP deal with the bits of i50 footage in the project OK?
Also, I've been told but cannot confirm that the Sony HVR-V1E camera scans progressively in 25fps prog scan mode, but encodes each progressively-scanned image as two interlaced fields on the tape, i.e. as 1080i50 images. Is this true? If so, it would surely mean that the sequence preset should be 1080i50 with progressive-scanned imagery emanating from this model of camera.
    I hope this makes sense!

    Hi,
FCP is open format timeline based, so it will transcode the footage according to the first clip on the timeline. so it will not be a problem for two different formats. i've used DVCAM, HDV formats together it has done for me nicely.
but check the result before proceding further ahed in edit in both preset format.
and using Compressor is not a good idea for broadcast I believe, it is ok if there is no other option is with you. It is better to do it with the hardware rather than software.
I use realtime Blackmagic hardware for down converting HD to SD with letterbox directly to tape.

  • I have never had this prompt before - " Unable to prepare your project for publishing - the project could not be prepared for publishing because of an error occurred (-108)

I have never had this problem before using iMovie
Unable to prepare project for publishing.
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (-108)

When I got the error, I realized it had nothing to do with RAM, I believe it was the camera footage I was using because changed the settings on my camcorder to something iMovie didn't like. So I have changed it back and its fine now.

  • Need change preset if adding HDV footage to SD project?

How  do you accomplish that and what are the results to the new HDV  and the old SD footage?

Though of no help in PrE, PrPro CS4 allows one to mix footage through different Presets for different Sequences (think mini-Projects in one major Project). Even earlier versions of PrPro could not do this, and one had to do separate Projects, as the Presets were Project-based, and not Sequence-based, though earlier versions did have Sequences.
    Good luck,

  • Using HD Footage in SD Project

I have an old SD project for a set of video instructions that needs to be updated. Most of the old SD footage is still good, but I do need to reshoot a few scenes at the moment. I'd like to shoot the new stuff in HD and mix it in with the old SD footage. Eventually the whole thing will need to be redone in HD, and I'd like to begin accumulating HD foootage now.
The SD footage was shot about 5 years ago with a cheap camcorder, but looks pretty good. I've experimented with a new JVC Everio 1080i camcorder that shoots crystal clear video to hard disk in AVHCD format. Whenever I view the AVHCD files the quality is great. I experimented bringing in those files into my SD project. I set the magnification so that I will keep all of the vertical resolution and lose a bit on the sides when the 16:9 video is reduced to 4:3. The video was shot so all of the action was in the middle of the frame, so I can afford to lose the sides. Since I'm reducing 1080 lines of vertical resolution to 480, I expected to have at least SD quality as a result.
When I rendered the video, I was very surprised to see that the new HD video looks *much worse* than the old SD video. It seems that CS4 cannot de-interlace video very well. The video from the HD source are incredibly bad in quality, and the video from the cheap, 5 year old SD camcorder look great.
I originally did these videos in Premiere Pro 1.5 and had a very easy time of it. Premiere CS4 has so far been a real disapointment. The resulting video is of very poor quality and the program crashes quite a bit, which was never a problem with 1.5.

I've got a couple of tutorials on my web site that deal with scaling HD footage down to SD resolution.  One is about an all-CS4 workflow.  Here's a link:

  • After not working on a project for a while, my renders disappear

I've been working on a project on and off for a couple months. And this is the 2nd time now that I've left the project for a few weeks. When I come back to it, all my rendered footage is gone.
I'm importing 720p HD footage (.mov) so I need to render everything in order for it to play smoothly in the project. A few small bits of render to remain, such as titles.
This is probably something simple. But could someone clarify what's going on, and if theres something I can do to prevent this.
    Thanks

Well I wanted to chalk this up to some kind of mistake on my part (which it probably is). But the renders are definitely disappearing, perhaps not on there own, but without my knowingly doing so.
Here's my guess: my project data gets stored in the default My Documents location of a Windows XP x64 installation. But I have a dualboot with GNU/Linux. While I don't normally use the NTFS partition where the premiere project data is stored, sometimes it does get mounted. After working on a project a couple weeks ago, I just came back to it, only to find that the entire render bar above the timeline is red instead of the green that I had left it when I last worked on the project.
Additionally the directories titled 'Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files' and 'Media Cache Files' both have a subdirectory with files specific to my project, and those subdirectories are still full of the render data.
So first off, regardless of what may be causing this problem, is there anyway to force Premiere to look at a certain location to re-find the render files?
Second, would my hypothesis of Linux mounting the parition where the Premiere data is saved make sense why the renders 'disappear'? Any other ideas what might be causing this?
    Thanks

  • Encore CS5 has started freezing on "Preparing project for build..." in disk burn attempt

After routinely burning DVDs with Encore CS5, the program has started freezing after I choose my settings and click "BUILD" on a window that reads, "Preparing project for build..."
I checked for solutions online and read about problems with Quicktime versions after 7.5.5.  So I uninstalled Quicktime and installed the 7.5.5 version.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled Encore.  Still had problem.
Further research suggested I install the Roxio patch
PX Engine 4.18.16a   I installed the patch.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled the latest version of Quicktime v 7.7.4  Still had problem
On my desktop computer, I'm running
    Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
    Intel i7 CPU  930 @ 2.80Ghz 2.80Ghz
    24 GB RAM
    nvidia Quadro GX 4800
Raid config on my data drives
Luckily, I also have Encore loaded as a part of the CS5 suite on a laptop computer, so I transfered the project files to the laptop, which burned the program without a problem.  This tells me the problem is with the program on my desktop and now with the project files.
    LAPTOP:
    Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit
    Intel i7 CPU  2620M  @  2.70 Ghz  2.70 Ghz
    4 GB RAM
    nvidia NVS 4200M
I'd appreciate any suggestions about how to get my desktop to again burn DVDs in encore.
Message was edited by: Dan 101 Just realized that when I reinstalled Encore, I got a message that instructed me to shut down two processes. One was related to Encore, the other was something like dynamiclink.exe. I couldn't find any such process running when I checked the Task Manager, so I couldn't shut it down before I continued with the installation.  Could this be related to the issue?

I am not using any quicktime files.  I started with 1920 x 1080p avi files to build a number of Permiere projects (one for each chapter of a 50 minute DVD, then converted these segments into H.264 files, (with an .mp4 extension) and built a master Premiere project.  I used H.264 files because it seemed the best option to keep the quality as high as possible before converting to m2v files.  Then I converted the master Premiere project into  m2v and wav files which are being used by Encore.  Should I convert the individual projects into another format (rather than H.264) to build the master project?  Does Encore look at the files converted to m2v from  mp4 as Quicktime files?  Could I avoid this by converting to Microsoft AVI or Uncompressed Microsoft AVI to buld my master project?  I didn't built the entire project into one master premiere project from the start because I was concerned it would be too complex with all the elements and tracks.
Now I can work with Encore and burn files, but the Encore program routinely freezes after I burn a disk.  The Quicktime thing is a puzzle, especially because I stopped getting the freeze when attempting to burn disks after I reinstalled Quicktime 7.6.5. I was trying a number of things and kept a log.  Now I'm trying to figure out why the program freezes after a disk has burned. I turned off Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player, rebooted and turned the features on again, but that didn't seem to have an impact.  Also, when I attempt to make changes to a subtitle track, I see the changes in the subtitle track, but they don't appear in the burned disk -- unless I delete a subtitle and recreate it.
Does the Roxio PX engine have any bearing on this?

  • Best Tools in AE to Resize 1920x1080 project for screening in theaters

I'm editing on Avid Symphony 6.0.3 with 1920x1080 footage. My project is to be screened in a movie theater. We shot mostly Cineform with a little bit of Red and 5D footage for B Roll. We are AMA linked so we will be using the full quality footage to online and export. We've tried not going past 130% with the "Resize" Effect but we have a couple that are around 150% While they look fine on a 42-inch television, I'm assuming this wouldn't fly in a theater. I have AE CS5.5...so I have a few questions...
Is there an optimum push-in / resize effect or tool for 1920x1080 footage with the least amount of quality loss?
Are there any AE plug-ins or resize effects in AE that are better than Resize in Avid?
Thank you for your time and your help.
    Best,
    Lucas

There are only a few theaters with better than HD projectors. Some 2K very few 4K. I've done several presentations that ran in theaters using standard HD square pixel projects and they look great. Even if the theater has a 4K projector it can and does run HD all the time because most digital films are delivered in that format.
If you're going for theatrical output then make your projects HD 1080 X 1920 and render a Production Master to a lossless codec. That way when the theater manager or distributor says to you we need the file in shazam's codec at 200 MB/sec with yahotti sound at 16bit you can dig up the proper codecs and render the delivery file from your production master.
BTW, shazam and yahotti are codecs that I've never heard of, but don't be surprised to find some format you've never heard of being used as the 'standard' for that theater. Fortunately most are using h.264 in one flavor or another.

  • Setting up a Premiere pro project for MXP import

I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on a Mac Pro 8 core Nehalem 2.93GHz with 6GB RAM. After importing the Adobe sample MXF file I cannot get it to playback realtime. Shouldn't a 1162x772 MXF file be able to playback realtime on my system?
I would like any help on how to setup the Premiere Pro 4.1 project for these files.

If you right-click on the footage and select "Interpret Footage" in the context menu, you can set a FPS number to override the file's value. Start small, say 4 fps, and see how playback looks. On the system you specified, I think you may be able to get ~6 fps on footage that size.
Alternatively, if you have After Effects, it will play back as fast as it can, and display the actual fps. This will give you an idea what performance the importer can achieve on a particular system with a given file.

So you can ping and nslookup from your ms to these agents and vice versa right?  I wouldn't do a manual install, I would push the agent from the management server.  You can uninstall the agent manually, or use cleanmom to get rid of them.  Then
do an install from the console.  When you initiate the install from the console (management server), should it run into any issues it will dump out an error which will give you an idea of where the problem may be.

  • How to convert 32 fps footage to 24 fps for slowmotion effect in premiere pro cs3?

    Hi there,
Can somebody give me any advice on this?
Is there something specific i need to adjust in the preset? or can i just richt-click on the footage in the timeline and convert it to 24fps?
Is it best to always shoot at a higher frame rate then 24fps..lets say for this particular clip and subject 32fps?
i'm doing this for a videoclip and we thought that such an effect would be nice during the choris of the song.
I hope somebody can give me some advice on this. Thanks in advance for the effort. much appreciated.
    grts. Tristan

    @Dan Isaacs
tnx for your reply: reason why shooting at 32fps is because the audio on the set has been speeded up with 133%. I thought it's best to stay in the same ratio in order to have the lips sync on the audio (this is in realtime)cuz when slowing down the footage to realtime speed the lips must be sync with the audio which is also in realtime speed
If I make sure that when slowingdown the footage in the project,it matches the realtime speed of the audio...,
does it matter at which frame rate I shoot?
    @Craig Howard
Well..I just got word of the rental company and there is a big chance that they have the panasonic HVX200 ready for me when i need it, SO i think that will be the one
So it will be as follow: shooting on a hvx200 at 32fps or if it doesnt really matter at 60fps for a better slowmo effect
of course i will shoot on High Def ;) and will need the p2 cards, after shooting I will capture/import the footage from the cards as you guys adviced me to do...
my main issue was thinkin I needed extra software for downconverting the framerate in order to get the slowmo effect, e.g.: cineform aspecthd
I think that i'm full circle now..or am i missing something?
    hehe..tnx again guys!

I badly need someone that is an extreme expert on Mac Pro and imovie11 and very good at troubleshooting. I have a critical project to get out and have serious problem. Mac store solutions did not work. Need a Pro that I can hire to come to my office in Raleigh NC.
Cleared the memory space on the drive, cleared the preferences.. critical problem. Love to find someone good to hire in the Raleigh NC area that come over and work on it.

Apple Store advice did not work.

Rocker-65 is correct, large, long and complex projects can have problems resulting in a Error-108. Sometimes cutting a Project up into pieces or just cutting into 2 can help. Easiest way to accomplish the cutting is to create a Duplicate Project. Then just cut Project 1 in half, saving the first part. Duplicate Project gets cut in half and contains the second part.
Then if you want to stitch them back together, export each project individually at 720p. Import each one BACK into a new Event Folder in iMovie and combine then in a new Project, export that.

  • Income Tax Projection for Retiring Employees

    Hi Folks,
One of our Employee is getting retired in the month of August, As per SAP,In April-2009 his IT projection happens for the entire financial Year April to March 2010.
That is his IT projection for APril to March is 5Lakhs, but his actual earnings from April to date of Separation (till august) is 3.5 Lakhs, because of this his Tax liablity from APril to July goes high and in the month of August there is a refund.
Now for retiring Employees how can we make the IT projection happen only till the month of Retirement.  Is their any standard process available or through custom development.
    Experts Plz advice.
    Rgds,
    Sekar.

I have personally checked this,  as facing the same problem. AND THIS IS WORKING,  THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION.
HOWEVER THERE IS ANOTHER SOLUTION ALSO.
One can create an retirement action,  which has to be executed for all the employees going to retire during the year.
system will calculate the gross and project the tax only upto the retirement date.
if exttn is required you can also config the retirement-exten action in case of extension is carried out.
Rather than touching the standard scheme this is the best way I know?  you can also fetch the reports in the future with the help of standard reports.
However, if anyone is having any PCR idea, that is also welcome.  Do give me a helping hand by share the same.
