5.0.2 - Still Can't Import JVC QuickTime Files

I was absolutely thrilled about the announcement that the 5.0.2 update would allow importing the JVC Pro HD QuickTime MOV files... until I actually tried it. Unfortunately, I'm still getting the import error complaining that the codec can't be found, and I've tried several of these files without success. Am I still missing something?
System: Dell Alienware Area 51, Intel i7 980X CPU, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB SATA HD (C:), 2 TB SATA HD (D:), BD/DVD/CD Burner Drive (E:), DVD/CD Burner Drive (F:), 4 TB RAID-0 eSATA HD (G:), NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 card, 2 Dell U2410 monitors, Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.
Major Software: Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Office 2007, QuickTime 7 Pro w/iTunes 10, Nero 10, SnagIt 9, Camtasia Studio 7.
Camera: JVC ProHD GY-HD200CB17PS with Focus Enhancements DR-HD100 Portable DTE Recorder. (Usually copy video files from the drive via Firewire.)
This is a brand-new computer and everything purrs like a kitten - no other issues at all with this system; LOVE the performance of the 4800 video card with Premiere CS5! And yes, I'm quite sure the 5.0.2 version was downloaded and updated - I had to update the NVIDIA drivers afterward to regain CUDA support, but all is well after the driver update.
On the JVC camera, we normally record to DV (AVI-2) or HDV M2T formats, but there is another guy in the building who has a Final Cut system with the exact same camera/drive and he uses the HDV MOV mode. When we used his clips, I have to take them home, convert them on my iMac using Calibrated Software's "Calibrated{Q} XD Decode" plug-in (I only have Final Cut Express) and bring the converted files back to use in Premiere. The M2T format we normally record with ourselves works just fine without any conversion.
Would love to bypass buying the Callibrated plug-in for CS5 if possible. Anyone have any thoughts? (Adobe?) -- Thanks!

I was hoping this might be it, but unfortunately, it's not. All of the sequence presets were there. I tried importing MP2, MP4, AVCHD and M2T formats - all came in clean and beautiful without any hesitation. Even took the JVC camera and shot some short test footage in both the M2T and MOV formats. The M2T imported without a hitch, while the MOV files complained of a missing codec (same as before). And I also have the menu option to Deactivate Premiere - I'm assuming you would see the "Activate" command instead if it were in trial mode.
The only difference I noticed in the info graphic from your JVC clip is that your clip was shot in 720p24 whereas our stuff is usually 720p60 - do you suppose that p60 isn't supported? I haven't tried anything at p24 but just might give that a shot this morning to see if it makes any difference. (It probably shouldn't - the QuickTime wrapper shouldn't be that different for these formats.)
The only other difference I've noticed in my system since the 5.0.2 update followed by the NVIDIA driver update is that at some point after I launch Premier Pro, the monitors will "blink" for a moment (i.e. go to black and then restore the correct images). When this happens, the Windows 7 Aero transparency apparently becomes disabled (e.g. the transparent task bar goes to an opaque light blue) - anything that was transparent on the Windows 7 desktop becomes opaque. I think this happened after I installed the NVIDIA update. But since this is so minor and the reverse "blink" occurs when you quit Premiere Pro (i.e. the Windows 7 transparency is completely restored), I'm assuming that the NVIDIA card is just yielding to Premiere's requirements at that point. Other than this, though, everything else (including Windows 7) seems to be behaving quite well.
Thanks for the suggestion - I'm willing to look at just about anything to find the solution.

  • Can't import uncompressed quicktime file into FCE 3.5.1

I've imported other files of this type before and feel a little stymied.
It's an uncompressed quicktime, 507 megabytes, 720 x 486, codecs are Integer (Big Endian), Animation. When I try to import it I keep getting an error message. I've gotten the message before but could figure out the problem - for example, one movie had AAC audio and FCE wouldn't take it. Don't know what the problem is here and it's driving me nuts.
I tried converting it using quicktime pro (with the DV/DVCPRO NTSC) but FCE still ends up reconverting the file again and the resulting file looks fairly crappy as a result.
Anybody know why the file won't import? Or can someone suggest what codec to use with Quicktime Pro to convert the file so FCE what re-compress it?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE is a fixed format application. It can handles natively (without rendering)standard def DV, HDV and AVCHD.
The timeline(sequence) format can just be either standard or hight definition one. Not quicktime animation. So the non native material has to be rendered before playing the timeline. The rendered material will have the same resolution (or format) than your timeline, thus the poor quality as you display DV material (an interlaced format designed to be monitored on TV sets).(Quicktime animation format is an uncompressed format).
Converting your non-native material with QT Pro and importing into FCE is the way to go as this process allows editing in native format.
Did you monitor your timeline content on a TV monitor?

  • Can't import some Quicktime files into FCP X 10.0.5

I'm new to FCP X.  Trying to import Qiicktime files from hard drive and keep getting "no supported files" dialog box.  Or sometimes it imports audio only.
Only once was I successfully able to import video files.  All of the files were originally created on a Power PC G5 from old 8mm movie footage transferred to VHS
tape.  All worked fine on older versions of FCP.  And all files play ok with QT Player on my new iMac running OS 10.9.  Baffled.

Sorry I get it now. Here is a screen shot of one of the clips that won't import.

  • Help! Still can't import with Leopard and LR 1.3

I still can't import off my CF card since upgrading to Leopard. I still get the same message I got with LR 1.2:
"Could not copy a file to the requested location. (2)
    _DLL6859.NEF
    _DLL6860.NEF"
does anyone know why this might be? The import dialogue still opens automatically when I insert the card, and I can see the images in the preview pane of the import dialogue, so I don't think it's the card reader. I've double-checked all my paths and they are the same as they were with Tiger. I've got plenty of free space on my storage drive. I tried copying the files off the card onto my desktop and it won't import from there either. please help, I've been without LR for weeks and waited patiently for the upgrade but it's still not importing. Any and all assistance accepted!
    Thanks!

well guess what folks. after several conversations with adobe, and one with apple, we figured out that it is a permissions problem on the second, internal storage drive that I use to store my photos. the LR folks say it's an apple issue and....you guessed it....the apple folks say it's an adobe issue. I suspect it's an apple issue. It was never a problem until I upgraded to leopard. And, I found the solution in the apple forums, with the help of a user there. I just had to go into the storage drive and click "ignore permissions" and presto, LR is working again (or at least import is. I haven't put it through it's full paces yet.)
wish I didn't wait until 1.3 came out to figure this out! but i figured it was a compatibility problem and I should give adobe a chance to update for leopard. Now, of course, I have a 500GB internal storage drive that nobody needs permission to mess with, but at least I have my main photo app back.....
Here's another lesson from this: hours on the phone with adobe and apple tech support, three separate techies, serial numbers verified someplace in India.......and the answer came from a user forum. Bravo!

  • I downloaded the newest version of camera raw for LR. I have LR4 and can not import photos from my new Nikon D750. The download  said it was sucessful but I still can not import photos.

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. So downloading the latest Camera Raw didn't do anything at all for you. The only way to update or upgrade Lightroom is to obtain the latest version. If you have Lightroom 4 then the last version of Lightroom you can have at no additional cost is Lightroom 4.4.1. If the camera you are using requires anything newer than what is supported and that version of Lightroom then it will require an upgrade to Lightroom 5.

I'm creating an epk and I need to add a bio to the menu.  Can I import the text file or do I need to retype the bio somewhere?  What is the best way to proceed?

    Electronic Press Kit.
Usually in the form of video outtakes, movie trailers, cast and crew interviews. Basically, the stuff that gets bunged onto commercial DVDs as extras or ends up on late night TV "Making Of..." shows.
To answer the OP, you want a button on the menu that leads to a still image, or series of them, set up as a slide show. You can copy/paste the text in DVD Studio and then add formatting via the Text menu. (Highlight the text and right click to access formatting controls). Or do it in a graphics application using the appropriate video image preset.

  • Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

    Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
    For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
    I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
    I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?
    Totally confused
    Cheers,
    Gary.

    Hi Arie,
    Thanks for your response.
It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.
Thanks for taking the time to respond

  • How can I import an ibook file back into iBook Author?

I exported an ebook from iBook Author thinking it is the equivalent of saving the file.
I did not save the file, I only exported it and than exited the program.
    My active file is vannished.
I need to make some adjustments to the ebook, but can not bring it back up.
Is there a way that I can re-import the iBook file back into iBook Author?
When I open iBook Author and try to open the exported file the program does not recognise the ibook file...
    Thanks for your help!

Check for previous versions of that book in iBA....even if not saved.
You can dig into the .ibooks file by changing the suffix to zip, but you'll have to manually extract what you can from assets you find. Please only do this with your own books.

  • How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?

    Hi,
How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?
    Thanks.

you can use file/import but that would be a mistake.
you should "load" your swf, not import it.
if you want to load it and need help, are you using as2 or as3?

    Are you looking for iPodService.exe?
Might be better to run services.msc from the run dialog and shut down the service polietly.

  • How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband?

How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband? I've found lots of threads about this but no direct answers/how to.
    Thanks

With the latest build of GarageBand on the device, move to the My Songs view, tap the Edit button at top right, select the shaking song you want to export, then tap the sharing arrow symbol at top left, tap iTunes, then GarageBand.
Connect the device to iTunes, select it in the left-hand column, then select the Apps tab. You should find the exported file in the File Sharing area of the GarageBand app and from there you can copy it to your computer, then open it with the GarageBand application.

  • Can't import .mxf video files in Premiere CS5

    Hi all!
I've just installed Premiere CS5 and imported some .mxf files to a project. But premiere just recognizes the audio tracks, it don't recognizes the video one.. it's like it was a simple audio file.. and i can see the video outside premiere.. anyone knows why is this happening?
With cs4 i never had this problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    André Inácio

Assuming you're not using the trial version :
if you can't import XDCAM EX files using the Media Browser, which will only import what Premiere needs, then there is something wrong with your installation.
PPro CS5.02 woks with all flavors of XDCAM EX files including those from the 350/320 cameras.
