60 fps in a 24 timeline

Hi. I've read some of these other posts but they're hurting my mind. Appreciate any help in advance.
Have footage in shot in 60 fps. Put it in it's own 60 timeline and copied the clip, dropped in the main 24 fps seq.
Looks terrible. I know why. How do I fix it please? Would rather avoid going through other aps if possible. Seems a real pain for something FCP should be able to do with a speed adjustment.
Please?  Thanks!

You don't give any info on the footage, the version of FCP, or what you think the reason is ("I know why".)
I've had good results inserting 60fps DVCPro HD footage into a 24p timeline as far back as FCS2, so this shouldn't be rocket science...

  • Use 60 fps footage in 24 fps timeline

I will apologize in advance because this is sort of a stupid question but I swear I have been told there is an easy way to do this...
I have a timeline that is in 24 fps. I also have a few shots that are shot at 60 fps. While I could just put the 60 fps clip into the timeline since frames get dropped it looks very intense and jittery. Now, I know I can conform these to 24 fps using cinema tools but that makes them slow motion.
Is there anyway or any programs that will allow me to conform the 60fps footage into 24 fps without turning them to slow motion?

    and set everything to BEST...
... then go have a nice dinner at a restaurant with linen table cloths, a good night's sleep, a leisurely breakfast, a late lunch and stop by to check on the process before you start the cycle again.
Best is VERY computationally intensive. I'd start with "Better" in frame controls and see if it gives you acceptable results. If not, then go the "best" - and living large - route.

  • Bug? FCP x cannot mix 24/25 fps correctly

Earlier this week, we had a 4 camera shooting, all in full HD but some in 24 fps and some in 25 fps.
According to Apples marketing copy, FCP X handles different fps with no problems at all.
    We experienced this:
When putting 24 fps and 25 fps on the same timeline, they run out of sync.
If we clap in start of recording and in end of recording and sync from the first clap, the later claps will be out of sync.
I called Apple and ended up talking to a guy called Andrew in Apple UK that told me, that it might be due to us not transcoding at IMPORT but later on, but this made no difference to us.
After this, I emailed Andrew / Apple directly several times, giving them a lot of tests and details and also showed, that mixing different fps doesn't give any problems in neither my Premiere Pro nor in my FCP 7.
After several emails to Apple this week, I haven't heard a single word back from them

    Hi,
I have the same problem as you Kenneth. I found a little work-around. I created new project in 25fps, imported to timeline all my 25fps clips, and then I placed few clips which are 24fps on timeline. Then I slowed down 24's to 96% manualy by retime, not by conform option. I hope it'll help you. Btw. I'm a fan of FCP, but X has got too many bugs... C'mon Apple...
Edit: It still doesn't work in longer clips. I have like 15sec clip and I need to put it to 91% of original speed to keep movement of mouth and voice together :O

  • A frame with time code could not be found error

    Hey all
So I just started using Speedgrade with my Premiere CS6 timeline exported as EDL, all RED (R3D) footage. When I input the EDL it only loads about 50% of the clips and pops up a red box like this:
So after a bit of Googling, the only solution I found was to ensure the time code base match, which I changed from 24fps to 23.976 which is exactly what is in my Premiere sequence. I then had to find the clips and drag them onto the gray box where it says "Reel not loaded". No big deal, took me all of 5 minutes.
I had also thought the above error was due to me having some high FPS clips in my timeline (120fps to be exact). However, even with no clips in the reels panel showing "Reel not loaded" when I stop at a couple of clips on the timeline I get this:
And as you can see in the reels panel the clip it is referring to has indeed timecode in that range.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I'm pretty sure it's related to the whole time base thing and it's dropping frames, but can't see how this can be true now that I've changed all instances of 24fps in the settings to 23.976 and that's what the Premiere sequence is showing, and also what is in the RED files.
And here's the metadata for the clip as shown in Red Cine X:
    Cheers.

Facing many of the same problems over the last four days. It's been a total nightmare. Working on Speedgrade CC with .R3D files and conformed the timeline to match the 23.976 footage, yet I'm still seeing clips get rejected, along with dropped frames which both carry over to output files and seem to cause the program to crash.
    Would love an explanation.

  • MP4 Import Bug?

Are any users of this forum experiencing problems importing MP4 into Premiere Pro CC? I have had problems importing some MP4 files into PP, and on another thread (different subject), one of the responders said he's having similar problems.
Here's the problem: The MP4 imports without issue, but the resulting clip has a bad frame rate. In my case, a clip recorded at 29.97 FPS shows on the timeline as having a frame rate of 23.976 FPS, which makes the video 25% longer than it should be. So, a forty-second clip occupies fifty seconds on the timeline. But the audio for the same clip imports at its correct length--forty seconds. And that means the audio ends ten seconds before the same video.
Here's an example. The Current Time Indicator shows the correct ending point of the clip, and that's where the audio ends. But the video goes on, the result of the incorrect frame rate:
I thought I had a bad MP4, so I tried loading it into Windows Media Player, where it loaded correctly and played fine. Same result in QuickTime for Windows and VLC Media Player--frame rate was correct, and it played without a hitch. I sent the file to buddies who use Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro, and they said the file imported at the correct frame rate and played without a hitch.
The problem doesn't occur with all MP4 files, only certain ones. And it only happens in Adobe programs--Premiere Pro, Prelude, and After Effects.
Has anyone else run into similar problems? Thanks.

"I am testing AWPro to 'rewrap' 29.97 FPS AVCHD footage into MP4 files."
Was your posted file created using AWPro as in your other thread?
The exact origin of your video file is pertinent to this conversation.
    For previous version reference:
CS4 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
CS5 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
CS6 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
I don't have CC to test.
I guess you are still having your "MP4 picture lag" problem
    with files created with AWPro?

  • New issue with blank frame at end of coverted .avi

Here is the project (scenario details):
I have 2 .swf files. Both are 30 fps. Call them "chapter1" and "chapter2". Frame count is 3600 and 9600 respectfully. The last frame of "chapter1" contains the same image as the first frame of "chapter2" - basically I'm splitting up an overall animation so I can easier manage two Flash documents versus one large document. I used SoThink SWF Converter to create 2 .avi files. When I place these .avi files back to back on the same timeline in Encore, both .avi files have an extra blank frame at the end. This causes a black frame flicker between the end of "chapter1" and the beginning of "chapter2". Even if I drag the end of the .avi on the timeline to the left (as to trim the video track), I still see a black, empty frame at the end. I don't think the problem is with SoThink because I've even imported these .avi files into Sony Vegas and zoomed in all the way to the end of each video track and the very last frame of both files is as it should be. This leads me to believe the issue is with Encore somewhere. Also, initially the problem in Encore was the audio tracks were extending a few frames beyond the video track thus causing the back to back .avi files to align according to the audio track (which was leaving a few blank frames from the video track). I have included some screen shots of the last 3 frames of "chapter1" and the first frame of "chapter2". Hopefully the images below appear in progression as I attached them. Watch the timeline indicator. One frame before the end of "chapter1" is black. I've run out of troubleshooting ideas. I can't imagine this would have anything to do with the .swf being 30 fps and the Encore timeline being DV NTSC 29.97 fps.

Stan - thanks for the reply...
I don't recall what was covered when you posted the similar question earlier:
Not much more than me explaining the flicker between 2 .avi files, and the only response was someone telling me to just have one .swf file. I'm not sure why some people's response is to "just do it a different way" instead of trying to figure out what is causing the issue.
What does mediainfo or gspot show about the avis?
I'm not sure which information you need, but I will attach what I was able to get out of the problematic .avi. Let me know if you need different information. This was the first time I used MediaInfo.
Without knowing what to look for, I did notice a couple of lines that caught my eye. Line 25 mentions 30 fps frame rate (which I imagine is this .avi). Line 26 mentions 25 fps as the original fps (which makes me wonder if SoThink misread the .swf file as 25 fps instead of 30 fps) - not sure if I'm reading this right. Also, lines 45 & 52 mention a 26ms delay in audio (relative to video). Could that be why the audio track in Encore extends a couple of frames beyond the video track? Either way, Vegas is STILL showing the last frame as filled with the image. What does this report tell you? Maybe I should find a different way to export .swf to video. Is there anything else out there I might try (to see if the problem is SoThink)? Just looked at the .avi in PremierePro. The last frame looks fine. SoThink won't let me convert .avi to 29.97 fps.
Could the fact I have a 30 fps .avi placed into a 29.97 fps project timeline, could this be the issue? I tested another .avi (from a movie), and the last frame appears correctly in Encore. Now this looks as if the issue is back to SoThink's conversion to 30 fps. I really should find a different .swf to video converter and retest. Again, thanks for any help (from anyone) in this and suggesting alternative video converters.
*added - the .swf files contain tweened and frame by frame animation along with a streamed audio layer, but even when I completely remove the audio layer, the resulting .avi still shows up as a blank frame at the end. I thought at one point the fact I had a streaming layer of audio might have been forcing the frames in Flash to skip around, but this wasn't the case.

  • Encoding Speed with Media Encoder Issue?

I have a 5 hour and 36 minute timeline in Premiere Pro CS5 which is composed of mixed assets- some at 29.97, some at 30 FPS, etc.  The timeline is exported to Media Encoder and set for Match Source Attributes Highest Quality  (Quality 5.0, VBR 2 pass, min 3.00, target 6.00, Max 7.00 MBPS).  NTSC 720 X 480 (0.9091), 29.97 FPS, PCM 48hz, 16 BIT stereo.  Format is MPEG2 DVD.
Estimated file size is 18138 MB.  The file takes approximately 36 hours to encode.  Is this normal?
    Premiere Pro CS5
    Media Encoder CS5
    Windows 7 64 BIT
    2.4 GHZ
    Intel Quad 4
700 GB free space on hard drive
    6 GB RAM

    Is this normal?
Probably yes. Aside from the normal conversion with 2 pass VBR, which even under ideal conditions could require up to 3 times the duration of the footage (in your case this makes about 15 hours), you are causing additional operations to conform the frame rates on the Premiere level of things. Also, since this is handled as a Dynamic Link process, you may be a bit short on RAM, which may slow down things further. And then of course the usual with disk speed and file I/O etc.. So it more or less sounds normal, but you should not let the initial rough guesstimates discourage you. Many times these values will get much lower after a while of transcoding when the encoder has a much clearer picture and statistical data about how long it actualyl takes to encode so and so many frames...

  • Issues with Flash player in CC

    Hi,
I am facing this issue with Flash in CC. We have recently upgraded our Adobe suite from CS6 Master Collection to Adobe Creative Cloud ENT.
The video playback in the software(Flash in CC) is incredibly slow and choppy, which makes it difficult for students to work on their animation.
This is happening with all PCs using Flash CC, there are few students who have Flash CS6 on their PCs and they aren’t having this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hi Mohan,
Thanx for the response. below are my specs:
    Specs:
Windows 7 Pro, Service pack 1, build 7601
    Intel Core i5 760 2.8Ghz
    5 GB RAM
    Nivdia Gefore GT 220
    Just tried your recommendations.
The performance issue exists for both the stage/timeline playback as well as test movie. I tried the suggestion to close the timeline and it doesn’t seem to make any difference.
When playing back footage, the FPS display on the timeline can be seen to fluctuate.
I’ve also tried another thing: Closing Flash CC and opening the test movie SWF file, which opens in Flash Player 11 and it plays perfectly fine.
    Tanx.. Ram

  • Only part of your film in slow-motion

Hi all... first timer here (I seem to be saying that a lot lately)....
I have seen a lot of tutorials on how to make a slow-motion clip (I will be using Premiere Pro 6) but I have not seen anything on how to make only a portion of your project in slow-motion. I assume it can be done fairly easily using my software.... just would like simple, clear steps in order to understand it.
I also do not want to shoot my whole documentary/promo projects in 60fps.... just the parts I want in slow-mo. In other words I want to be able to combine my regular 7-d 24 fps grabs and my slow-mo 60 fps footage in the timeline and work with them that way.... if indeed that's how it is done...
    That's it...
Thanks for reading and I hope we can start a nice discussion on this topic.

You can only really say you're a first-timer once.
    Look into "time remapping."  Or...
You can also split a clip, and put a time scale on the split portion, while enabling rippling.

  • PAL to HD- Updated

Okay, I posted yesterday and got some great suggestions for converting Pal footage to work in my 29.97 project. However, while I'm not getting weird looking footage, I have an issue that I'm hoping to figure out.
So I captured the clip as DV PAL from DVD, and then took it into Compressor. I exported two clips, the first I exported as Pro Res 422 and left the frame rate alone. The second clip I exported as Pro Res 422 but modified it to change the frame rate from 25 to 29.97. When I pulled these clips into FCP, the one that didn't have the frame rate changed played fine, the one that had the frame rate changed played faster and the audio was out of sync. My concern is that just because the 25 fps footage plays "normally" in my timeline, when exporting at 29.97 I'm expecting the footage to be changed somehow, disrupting the flow of the movie.
Is there a way to handle this with FC Studio? I'm tempted to keep editing with the 25 fps stuff in the timeline because it looks okay, and we'll be changing it later when we get full resolution footage, so it would work for the time, but the frame rate is my concern, as I've never worked with PAL I'm worried that ignoring it will cause problems later. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Austin

    Another Idea I'm having:
down convert all footage to 23.97? I know that'd take forever, but I've been told by someone that its easier to go down than up, because it removes redundant frames rather than add frames to fit the fps. Would anyone recommend this strategy? Taking all my PAL and all my 29.97 footage and dropping it all to 23.97 so its consistent that way, as opposed to taking the PAL to 29.97?

  • Clip frame rate wrong in imovie 11

Ever since I upgraded to imovie 11 all of my video clips show a 60 in a yellow frame - both in events and projects - with the message "indicates clip frame rate (60fps) is not a multiple of the current project (25 fps)". What does this mean? As I said shows in events and projects. To stop audio jumping I detached all audio from clip but how do I fix the clip frame rate? Assume this causes "jumpy replay" problems. How do I fix and where??? Please help. Could not find solutions anywhere.

I meant to say it only (if I may generalize here) makes a difference when you edit. Don't try to edit 30 fps material in a timeline meant for 25 fps. Very few applications can accomplish this with a good end result.
Are you speaking about this particular change of frame rates or any?
Having transfered Super 8 film that was shot at 18 fps, I have little choice but to change the rate. So far everything seems to be working out fine. For 24 fps iMovie does a pull-down of 1 1 2; for 30, 2 2 1. I'm a little confused as to whether I should use 24 or 30 fps. I'll be asking about this in a new thread.
The easiest way to change a projects framerate is to edit the project xml file.
Right click on your iMovie project file and choose "Show package contents..." (or something similar)
Edit the "Project" file (no extension) using the free Textwrangler editor or a plist capable editor.
Find the node "frameRate" and update to 30.
Really? That's a cool trick! But it sounds like it could easily mess things up. Have you tried this and with what scenarios?
or easier just create a new project

The only way is to use the "Edit Multiple Frames" option and
    manually re adjust all the
content after you change the stage size. There is no way to
    automated it.
The EMF button is next to the FPS indicator under your

  • Video frame rate issue

I downloaded some clips from Gettyimages to put together a mock clip. Once I finished the clip I bought the clips from them and replaced the media in my timeline. My problem is that I can't afford to buy the 30fps videos and I'm stuck with the 15fps clips. Is there a way I can make footage look less choppy? Is there anyway I can adjust the FPS in the FCP timeline?

What? They sell 15fps clips for cheaper? I didn't think they sold anything other than full res. And they are an EXPENSIVE place to go. Is this a web clip deal of some sort?
Adjusting the frame rate won't make up frame information that isn't there. 15fps turned into 30fps will just show each frame twice. Frame Blending might help, but it also might make it look odd.

  • CS6 - Base is 30 - Auto - problem

When dragging multiple stills onto the Create Sequence icon, a project emerges with "base is 30".
This used to be adjustable in CS5.5 under File / Project Settings / Timecode to Auto or 25 or whatever.
Not anymore this menu item is gone.
Don't tell me to put the project at 25 fps, because it is 25 fps, only when scrubbing you clearly see the 30 fps mismatch on the timeline. (the playback head and frame ends don't line up)
Don't tell me to put the footage at 30fps because it are all seperate stills that can't be set at any frame rate.
Don't tell me to put the import still fps at 25: it is on 25 and it doesn't help.
I need After Effects to start with base is 25, as default, to correct this problem. Where can I adjust it?

Yes, I have contact with some of the Adobe developers and my contact told me this is going to be fixed.
And I think we have the right to complain here; life can become VERY filled with frustrations due to the sum of all bugs encountered every day.
My system crashes several times each day, so I know how it feels.
In my opinion, Adobe should be hunting actively on forums like this to find and fix things like this.
The bug report feels like a bottomless pit sometimes. If only there was some response or news on a site about found bugs that are solved or under investigation.
Mere updates are welcome but knowing your issue has been noted, helps a lot in dealing with day to day bug stress.
Even in this topic you can read that people don't really read what has been written by the original poster.
For years, I get unwanted answers, even when I told people not to give the unwanted answers I listed.
The worst category are the answers by people who say I'm doing it all wrong or that they never encounter the same bug on their system: How does that help me?

  • I DON'T want to fade audio

Dropped an audio track into iMovie, and a fade out was added automatically at the end.
Clicked the "manual fade out" checkbox in the inxpector, and it brought most of it back. Instead of a regular fade out, now it's just an extremely short fade.
Why is iMovie doing this? Is it possible to simply drop an audio track into a sequence and have it left alone?

    inte_moto wrote:

After checking the Fade Out checkbox, did you try dragging the slider to the zero position? The slider normally defaults to half a second (13 frames in my case as I'm on PAL 25 fps).
In the timeline viewer, you can also drag the fader handle to the far right of the clip. Hover over the end of the clip to reveal the handle icon. When the grab hand appears, click and drag the handle to the desired fade out position (in your case, the far right or clip end). A similar handle appears at the start of the clip for fade in purposes.
When doing all this, it's best to zoom in on the clip. Do this by dragging the clip slider to the far left position, labelled 1/2 second. The slider is located under the clip thumbnails viewer for both the Events and Projects windows. It allows you to show the number of frames per thumbnail, ranging from 1/2 second to All (the latter showing one thumbnail per clip). So, for example, the 5s position will show 5 seconds of video for each thumbnail. Very useful when doing finely tuned edits. It also helps to check the box labelled "Show Advanced Tools" in iMovie>Preferences (General tab). Also check the box labelled "Display time as HH:MM:SS:Frames".
