6310 / 7310 Scanned Page Count?

We're using the HP6310 and HP7310 All-In-Ones for some of our field personnel and in a couple of cases we're having problems with the ADF rollers and, sometimes, tray breaking down more quickly, we think, than it should.
I can't find any way to do a scanned page count on either of the machines.  Am I missing something?  And if not, if there is no built-in way to do a scanned page count, is there any sort of software solution that might make it possible (either through HP or some sort of independent software), or a higher-end All-in-One that does provide a scanned page count?

I am working on a parser that was written several years ago by someone else. The only information that is required is the page count. I am adding new conditions to the pattern searches which rely on regular expressions. I know a text search is not possible if there is no unencrypted page tree to search for. My hope is that there is some way to automate 1)passing the pdf from unix to a windows workstation, 2) opening the pdf and resaving it (thus converting it to a linearized document), and 3) restaging the pdf on unix to be reprocessed (which would successfully find the page count within the "Linearized" object entry/tag.

  • Why is my page count always 1 (regardless of number of pages)?

    I just created a new Numbers document. It has 3 pages.
    In the footer I display (page number) of (page count).
    I would expect to see "1 of 3", "2 of 3", "3 of 3".
    What I get is "1 of 1", "2 of 1", "3 of 1".
    What do I have to do to get the page count to count the number of pages?
    Thanks

    Hello. I was searching the boards today, because I was having this same issue.  I couldn't figure out why when I chose Insert, Page Count in the footer, it was always coming up "1" - Yet, Insert, Page Number would be correct.  This is what I would get in footer:
    Page 1 of 1, Page 2 of 1, Page 3 of 1, Page 4 of 1, etc.  Should have been: Page 1 of 5, etc.
    Not finding a "fix" here besides starting troubleshooting with creating a test User Account (which is okay), I decided to do some more troubleshooting first, and I discovered something.
    I found my fix.  I don't know if it's what was happening for you, but this fixed it for me.
    Insert the Page Count from the Menu in the footer.  Make sure the Inspector is open.  Go to the Sheet Section.  In the middle is a Page Options section.  For me, the "continue from previous sheet" was checked.  Instead, I checked the second option "Start at" and chose "1."  That worked for me.
    I started this spreadsheet from a csv document, but I tried starting one from a blank template and "continue..." was also selected.  Seems like it's the default?
    Hope this helps someone else who is having this issue.
    Have a great day!

  • How can I get a total page count of a PDF before placing every page in the PDF?

    Before the [long] spiel, I'm using javascript in InDesign CS3.
    I'd like to create a script that places a multiPage PDF in any number of different impositions. (saddle stitch, 4up signatures, 16up signatures etc.)
    I've easily created a script that iterates through a PDF and places it into a new document as (4,1|2,3), (8,5|6,7) etc, which works for printing in duplex, folding each page in half, and gluing the resulting spines to make a simple thick book (for PDFs with more than, say, 64 pages).
    However, the next step is to re-write the script to create a saddle stitch document (16,1|2,15), (14,3|4,13) ... (10,7|8,9). For this I need to know how many pages there are in the PDF before I start placing the PDF pages, and then making the new document [int((PDFpages+3)/4)] pages long.
    Is there a simple way to get the count of PDFpages without going through a loop and placing the next page from the PDF until the placed page number equals the first page number?
    This way seems wasteful:
    var totPDFPages = 1;
    app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = totPDFPages;
    myPDFPage = sheetFront.place(File(srcPDF), [0,0])[0];
    var pdfFirstPage = myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber;
    while (doneCounting == false) {
    totPDFPages += 1;app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = totPDFPages;
    myPDFPage = sheetFront.place(File(srcPDF), [0,0])[0];
    if (myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber == pdfFirstPage) {
    totPDFPages -=1;
    doneCounting = true;
    alert("PDF has " + totPDFPages + " pages!");exit();
    myPDFPage.remove();
    NB. Javascript above *hasn't* been run, but should look similar once debugged.
    The only thing I've though of to relieve the sheer duplication of placing the PDF twice (once for the count, and once for the imposition), is to create an array of impoPages[counter]=myPDFPage, and then shuffle the pages referenced by the array to the correct sheet and position.
    It'd be much easier to be able to assign pageCount = File(srcPDF).pageCount !!!
    Thanks for any help/tips or even a simple "What are you smoking, man!?"
    Cheers,
    Jezz

  • How to start the page count from second page (first is title)

    Hi all,
    I have been using Livecycle for a little while now and think I have got to grips with quite a bit of it to make some fairly simple interactive forms, but I have started to make more complex forms now and although I am able to work a lot of things out, one thing has stumped me. There are lots of threads about page numbering, but none seem to address my problem: I wish to have a 'page number' on the master page (done that) but I have 2 master pages, one is used for the first page (then not at all) and the second master page is used after that, that is the one with the page count on, that way the page number appears at the bottom on every page, apart from the first one. I need a way for the count to 'skip' the first page (as this is a title page and I do not want that numbered) and start numbering from page two of the form, but have it numbered as page 1.
    So basically the document will be Title page (no numbering), then pages after that of the form, starting from '1' shown on the bottom- it is a dynamic form that may change length as the user adds to it. Is there a script that I need to use, and if so how should I implement it? Any help would be appreciated, apologies if this is not very clear!

    Use the Custom object "Master Page n of m" on the second master page.

  • Getting Page Count for a Multi-Page PDF file using Illustrator script?

    Does anyone know how to get the page count of a multi page PDF file?  I know you can then open each page using the PDFFileOptions (pagetoopen).  But I need to know up front how many pages there are to loop thru to open each page and process each page.
    Any Ideas?

    This script i did for photoshop:
    OK so lets do it working on WIN and MAC without any shell script.
    This solution is not the best but its working.
    I used Try catch to solve it.
    Only issue is that you should at least somehow know how many pages you expect in pdf.. this mean if you are working with books or flyers...
    Then set the maxPagesCount to that number.
    I am working with pdfs with max 20pages.. so i start open the 20 then 19 then 18 and when i am success i know the amount of pages.
    Its not the quicker way but its usable.
    var maxPagesCount = 20;
    var actPagesCount = maxPagesCount;

  • Pages 5.0 - Status bar current page & page count?

    How do I show the status bar showing current page and page count? I do not need to see the full thumbnail bar.
    In all prior versions of pages, I could look at the bottom of my window and see my current page and how many pages are in my document.  Now, I glance to the bottom, and I have no idea.  I cannot find any way to turn this on and turning on the thumbnails view does not show this to me at-a-glance because I have to scroll all the way down (through documents hundreds of pages long) to find out how many pages I currently have.
    Please, what am I missing here, how can I make this show up again?
    I mean a quick display here, not adding the page count and numbers to a documents footer.  Although, that would be one way for me to solve this issue, but I do not always want that.

    I wrote a short AppleScript solution that informs about the current document page as a pop-up dialog. This is for Pages v5+ only. I created and saved an Automator Application named CurrentPage to my Desktop. Providing that Pages is running, it will produce the dialog shown in subsequent Automator screen shot.
    Double-click /Applications/Automator and choose New Document, Application, and Choose. Follow the Utilities > Run AppleScript (not Shell Script as shown), and drag Run AppleScript over into the larger window and drop it. Select all of its contents and remove them -- this is just boilerplate.
    Copy and paste the following AppleScript into the now vacant Run AppleScript workflow window. Click the hammer, and File > Save... pick a name, and location to save the application where it is handy. Quit Automator.
    Code:
    -- P
    -- Produce formatted dialog of document name, current page, and page count
    -- Pages v5+ only. Works whether typing in document or scrolling pages.
    -- VikingOSX, June 2014, Apple Support Community - Pages for Mac.
    if not ApplicationIsRunning("Pages") then
      display dialog "Pages must be running to use this utility."
      return quit
    end if
    tell application "Pages"
      activate
      tell front document
      set diagTitle to "Current Document Page"
      set docName to (name as text)
      set thePage to current page
      set curPage to 0
      set pageCnt to page count
      set pnList to its page
      repeat with ndx from 1 to count of pnList
      if thePage is equal to item ndx of pnList then
      set curPage to ndx
      end if
      end repeat
      set vformat to "Document: " & tab & tab & docName & return ¬
      & "Current Page: " & tab & curPage & return ¬
      & "Total Pages: " & tab & tab & pageCnt
      end tell
    end tell
    display dialog (vformat as text) giving up after 15 with title diagTitle
    on ApplicationIsRunning(appName)
      tell application "System Events" to set appNameIsRunning to exists (processes where name is appName)
      return appNameIsRunning

    I'm creating a book format in Pages. I want the page count to be 1 on the first page of chapter one after the title page, table of contents, etc.. How do I do that?

    That is not the issue.
    Pages/OSX does not save files with crop marks and bleeds.
    It also by default saves transparency, which is involved in a lot of Pages' better features, at a rubbishy 72 dpi resolution.
    It also makes it extremely difficult to maintain mono-color like black only text, has no spot color and makes color management opaque.
    It really is only meant for amateur publishing and printing to your desktop printer.
    A commercial printer who is willing to use and print from Pages may have better results but at the cost of considerable micro-management which defeats the point of this "cheap" solution.

  • How to determine the page count of the front document (pdf-Preview) with applescript?

    Hello, I'm a beinnger apple scripter, and I have 2 questions. First, im trying to find the code to generate a page count for the front document of preview. I tried something like this:
    choose file with prompt "Count the number of pages in this PDF file:" without invisibles
    do shell script "/usr/bin/mdls -name kMDItemNumberOfPages " & quoted form of POSIX path of result & " | /usr/bin/grep -o '[0-9]\\+$'"
    But I dont want to have to choose a file with the prompt, and Im not sure how to get the path or POSIX path of an open pdf that is the front document in prievew to then use that directory to select the file to run the shell script on. This is one step in a much larger sequence of automator/apple script commands for large print jobs.
    The large scale view is:
    1. seleting a group .musx Finale 2014 files and creating pdfs of all the documents
         -Achieved with Automator stuff: [Get selected finder items] [open finder items with Finale 2014] [run applescript to convert to pdf all the open files] (which I have working but without a proper repeat condition)
    2. sorting those those exports into even/odd groups
    3. making the even pages 2 up with a create booklet plugin
    3. combinging even/odd group pdfs in their respective folders
    4. sending the 2 up evens to 1 printer, and the singes to another printer.
    but at this stage in the code/automator this is what i'll need to be doing:
    1. Several pdf documents will be open and I need to determine the page count of the front document.
    2. With that result I need to determine if the pagecount is even or odd.
    3. If its even, I need to save as pdf in a file folder /desktop/PDF Export/Doubles
         - if its odd, I need to save as pdf pages from 1 to (pageCount -1) to /desktop/PDF Export/Doubles, and pages (pageCount) to (pageCount) to desktop/PDF Export/Singles. (example: A 5 page pdf will send pages 1-4 to folder "Doubles", and pages from 5 to 5 to Singles, A 1 page pdf will only send a copy to the folder "Singles." A 2 page pdf will send both pages to "doubles"
    4. once the even/odd pages have had pdfs made in the either or both of the folders, Im going to close the document and repeat for all other open pdfs.
    Which also brings me to my 2nd repeat condition question: how can I repeat (print, save as pdf, close) commands for open files and end the script once all files are closed? This can help me both at this stage, as well the coding stage before in creating the pdfs from open Finale/sibelius .sib/.musx files
    would it be something like this?:
    If front document exists
    try
    tell application "preview"
    <bla bla>
    end try
    end tell
    At stage 1 of the large scale i've gotten the files to export pdfs and close multiple files, but if i say "repeat 4 times" and i have 3 files it can do those commands but it gets stuck trying to repeat the code one more time. I need the repeat amount x to be the # of items in selection from the the original finder window.
    Thanks for the help!

    The following AppleScript will get the POSIX path and filename of the current PDF file. It will just return the integer value for page count. Note: The path retrieved is the actual path to the PDF file, unless it is on the Desktop. In the latter case, the path will be ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data/Desktop/filename.pdf.
    The script assumes that the following folders exist, otherwise you will need a try block to test for their presence.
    The AppleScript dictionary for Preview does not provide a page dictionary entry, that would make a repeat loop and page range possible for saving individual page ranges.
    set pdfDoubles to POSIX path of ((path to desktop) & "PDF Export" & Doubles)
    set pdfSingles to POSIX path of ((path to desktop) & "PDF Export" & Singles)
    tell application "Preview"
      -- gets quoted POSIX path and filename
              set pdfFile to (get path of front document)
              set pdfName to (get name of front document)
      log pdfName
              set cmdArg to "/usr/bin/mdls -name kMDItemNumberOfPages " & pdfFile ¬
                        & " | egrep -o \"(\\d+)\""
              set pageCnt to do shell script cmdArg
      display dialog pageCnt
              if pageCnt mod 2 is 0 then
      -- even
      -- save pdfName in pdfDoubles
              else
      -- save pdfName in pdfDoubles
      -- save individual pages in pdfSingles
              end if
    end tell

  • How to exclude last page from the total number of pages counter

    Hi,
    I am customizing the payables remittance RTF template, our requirement is to reset page number to 1 for each payment, i am able to achieve this using "@section"
    also we have a requirement to have a summary page at the end, i am able to get this using "start@last-page:body".
    issue is last page is also considered in the page counter of the last payment.
    i.e. suppose if i am generating remittance for 2 payments which are printing details in two pages and one page respectively, my output will have total 4 pages and it's showing
    Payment1 page-1 footer -> 1 of 2
    Payment1 page-2 footer -> 2 of 3
    Payment2 page-3 footer -> 1 of 2
    Summary page-4 footer -> 2 of 2
    but i wanted to see
    Payment1 page-1 footer -> 1 of 2
    Payment1 page-2 footer -> 2 of 3
    Payment2 page-3 footer -> 1 of 1
    Summary page-4 footer -> 1 of 1
    Any idea how to remove the summary page from the page counter.
    Rgds,
    -Kamal

    I'm not sure how it was in Acrobat 9, but in XI you add a Header/Footer and
    one of the options it "Page Number and Date Format", where you can select
    the format of the page number to add, some of them contain the total number
    of pages (such as "1 of n").

  • I can't select a portion of a scanned page

    I often have documents scanned into PDF format at two different copy shops. Sometimes I want to use the Acrobat 8 or Adobe Reader 7 selection tool to select a portion of a scanned page and then edit that selection in Photoshop.
    When I open scan from one of the shops (which uses Acrobat 4 for scannng) and choose the selection tool, the cursor turns into a crosshair and I am able to then marquee-select a portion of the scanned image, copy the selection and then edit the selected image in Photoshop.
    When I open a scanned image from the other copy shop (which uses Acrobat 7 for scanning) and choose the selection tool, the cursor remains an arrowhead and I cannot select any portion of the scanned image.
    Can you please tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks

    You can only edit an entire graphic, not parts. In addition, you can not do the edit in Reader. In both of the cases you describe, you should be able to select the image to edit. The process you are using sounds like a graphic copy (at the screen resolution) which is far from an optimal process for getting the graphics. You can save all graphics to the hard drive and edit those, retaining all of the resolution of the original.
    In terms of the two cases, it sounds like the second shop may have set security to not allow copying of the graphic screen.

  • How do I convert a document to a PDF file? I have four scanned pages I have to attach to an email.

    How do I email four scanned pages of text, no pictures, as an attachment, I scanned the pages to my documents, attached them to the email but my server rejected the email.

    When you scan, it chooses the highest image quality which results in large files, when you tried to send those large files via email, you were rejected by your mail server for exceeding the file attachment size limit.
    If you want to send original high quality scans, you need to use a service like DropBox or something to upload your files too, your ISP restricts upload speed to a fraction of your download speed on purpose, so it will be slower uploading large files.
    However if the other party is just going to view them, then a lower quality universal format like PDF will do nicely.
    You can import your present images into the free LibreOffice suite (drawing) and create PDF's from that, add test or marks etc.
    However to clean up scanned graphic files you need a program for that specifically, perhaps the free GIMP will get you by enough without having purchase a graphics editor program

  • [Acrobat X Pro] File locks and page counts when printing

    Hi,
    We have two users on Acrobat X Pro Win 7 X32.
    On both systems they have the following issues.
    1) If they were to print only page 1 for example, they can set a page count of 5 copies and it would be fine. If later on they were to print page 10 and they would also like 5 copies, the page count has reverted to the default 1 copy. It doesn't remember the selection of 5 copies from the previous print.
    Is this a bug?
    2) File locks occur on all files even if they are specifically closed. The file lock is only removed once they close Acrobat down entirely. This has cause alot of problems. Has Adobe acknowledged this as a fault yet?
    Thanks.

    Make sure the Preview panel in Windows Explorer is disabled.

  • Page Count Missing From Print Job Status Window

    When I print a multi-page document from TextEdit or AppleWorks, the Print Status window does not show the page count. Instead it always shows "Sheet 1 of 1".
    Both TextEdit and AppleWorks show the document as having four pages. A print preview from AppleWorks confirms the document does have four pages. Yet when the document is printed the Print Status window continues to show only "Sheet 1 of 1" with no indication that the document actually has a total of four pages. Nor does it show which pages is currently printing.
    I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8. If I recall correctly, previous versions of Mac OS X showed both the total page count and the currently printing page number, which incremented as the job printed. As it is, there is no way to know the progress of a large print job.
    Any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks.

    Could some check their print status window while a job is printing? Does it always show "Sheet 1 of 1" or does it show the page count that increments as the job prints?
    Thanks.

  • Text Replacement in scanned page question

    I must be doing something incredibly wrong because I cannot get text to be replaced in a scanned OCR document. I am using Acrobat Pro 9.
    Before getting to that, let me ask this question: If I am scanning a document created using a readily available font like Times New Roman, why does Acrobat even bother using the scanned page for displaying text? It knows the text, the OCR was 100% accurate. Why not replace the 300 dpi scanned bitmap image with real, vector-based text? I don't understand that.
    OK, now to just trying to replace what amounts to fuzzy looking text with vector text. I've read how to replace text using Tools-> Advanced Editing-> TouchUp Text Tool where I select text, right click on it, go to properties and change the text. Here's what happens when I do that:
    First off, the defaults in the properties dialog are set to no fill and no stroke. Why is that? If you're changing your font, wouldn't you want it to show?
    After making a selection and closing the dialog, the text indeed changes, but the original, fuzzy text is there as well. And, as there are slight differences in font size, the page is virtually unreadable as it has the appearance of being printed twice with different alignments each time.
    This is, of course, quite useless. I MUST be doing something wrong.
    Of course, taking even this course of action is pretty frustrating, as the document I'm working on has many statements in bold, so doing a global font change isn't even practical. I really just wish acrobat would know that it can display vector text from the get-go, and forego the bitmapped text altogether.
    Thanks, I hope my frustration isn't too evident!

    Subject: Text Replacement in scanned page question
    1. First off, the defaults in the properties dialog are set to no fill and no stroke. Why is that? If you're changing your font, wouldn't you want it to show?
    2. After making a selection and closing the dialog, the text indeed changes, but the original, fuzzy text is there as well. It is as if there is a bitmapped image sitting behind my new, pristine text.
