6500/SUP32 High CPU load & process switching troubles.

Hi!
At one of the nodes used catalyst 6500 with sup32 running software12.2(33)SXH5 , there are problems with high load CPU due to interrapts:

I installed the SPAN session on RP and found an ordinary network traffic clients (http, etc.), that must be harhware CEF switched.
It is obvious that the traffic enters the process switching:

The organization of this site is simple enough:
uplink (Vlan24, 2GB EtherChannel) and about 3500 SVI with IP Unnimbered feature and static routes with 32 bit mask for customers, for example:
interface Vlan101
  ip unnumbered Loopback0
  ip access-group 110 in
end
ip route 192.168.100.101 255.255.255.255 Vlan 101
interface Loopback0
ip address 192.168.100.1 255.255.255.0
ip address 192.168.101.1 255.255.255.0
etc...
Default route is obtained by the EIGRP
The essence of my question: How can I determine the reason the traffic hits the CPU?
I would be grateful for any ideas, ready to provide any diagnostic data.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
  Dmitry

L3Aging is related to NDE(Netflow Data Export). Check for any anomalies.
Also, on a side note, I could not help noticing that you are running 6.1(1b). You might want to go latest 6.4(x) which is general deployment to get various security vulnerability, diagnostic enhancement and other bug fixes.

  • High CPU load and com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2 crash after upgrade

After upgrading my Macbook Air from Lion to Mountain Lion, the system has a very high cpu load, and the crash reporter is the process that causes thee high load. In the error log I see this entry several times per second:

I investigated a bit more and recovered, that it has something to do with the printer drivers. When I remove all printers from setting, everything is fine. As soon as I add a printer (Brother MFC 9440CN printer/scanner, printer driver provided by Mountan Lion), the crash reporter starts it's work and the error log is full of those entries.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marcus

I did more exploration and found the cause of this, but I don't know how to fix it:
I removed all Brother and Lexmark printer drivers and rebooted (and also tested with a virtual machine using 10.8.0 as guest os that never had any printer installed). As soon as I enter the printer settings and press the "+", the crashes begin, so it looked like the bonjour one of the printers announcing themselves via Bonjour were causing this.
When watching a picture in the preview app the same happend. We have two multi function printers in our network, the already mentioned brother printer and a Lexmark X204N. Switching off the Lexmark (which wasn't installed on my Mac) solved the problem. Switching off the printer is no solution in our office (it's our fax device and main printer), but switching off mDNS on the Lexmark also solved it. But this can only be a workaround.
Is this a known problem with Lexmark devices and Mountain Lion (it works fine with machines using Lion)? Are there any fixes known? It's just the Lexmark device announing itself via Bonjour that causes trouble, even if the driver is not installed.

  • Kernel task over 100%. High CPU Load. High Temp. Problem Solved.

    Hi,
I thought i would make a post as i had been having trouble with my 13 inch mid 2009 MBP for sometime (6 months), with runaway kernel tasks causing high CPU loads. I had searched through forums and discussions for a long time trying to find the problem and isolate it. Initially i discovered some problems with finder preferances that were chewing up CPU which i solved by deleting the prefereance file, allowing the system to recreate a non corrupted version. This helped but still i had problems. I tried maintainance suites like onyx, reseting PRAM, booting into safe mode, hardware checks and diagnostics, and more little tricks than i can remember. Nothing i tried really seemed to make a differance. Through reading on this forum and others i found out the kernel tasks can be a direct result of hi CPU core temps as the system runs a lot of small kernel tasks to try and take some of the CPU load away from processor intensive processes that may be contributing to hi CPU load. The thing which solved my problem in the end was opening up my MBP, being careful not to touch the logic board and literally puting my vacuum cleaner over the fan, sucking dust and dirt and dust out of my latop. This computer has been through the dirt with me, literally its been dragged through rural south east asia for a year and accompianied me to warhouse parties to perform and run lighting and visuals. Its little wonder the fan was obviously clogged. I know people tend to be holier than though with their mac products and treat them with the upmost respect, but my love for the MBP has come from how sturdy and reliable it has been under less than desirable conditions.
Now im not telling people this is what they should do, i had just noticed alot of people with this problem in my attempts to solve mine, and in the end this is what helped. My MBP now runs at a temperature where i can touch the metal near the CPU without being worried about a 3rd degree burn and the CPU load is acceptable with no run away kernel tasks. Like i saw this might not be the cause of your porblem, as my laptop has lived a rough and fun life so far, but i thought i would share this with you all as i have had contstant help from this forum and others searches for solutions to problems with my apple products.

Already tried SMC and PRAM-reset with no luck.
On my MacBook late 2008 it's the same effect.

  • DMVPN phase 3 - scalability - nhrp generates high cpu load

    Hey all.
Been running into a scalability issues with DMVPN. Mainly caused (as I see it) by NHRP.
    Scenario:
IOS-SLB-based DMVPN solution in a dual-cloud setup. Practically it's 2 separate solutions with spokes having 2 tunnels (one in each cloud). See attachment sketch. We're running a phase 3 hierarchy design (trying at least)
    Spoke routers:
    - 2500 routers in a mixture of c871, c881, c2800, c2900. Need to scale to at least twice that.
    - Spoke-to-spoke is heavily used
    Farm routers:
    - Cisco 7201 with VAM2+. Around 1 router per 350 spokes (+1 for secondary tunnel)
    Superhub:
    - ASR 1004 (one for primary and one for secondary dmvpn-cloud).
We're not running any IPSEC between the farms and the superhubs. Just regular unencrypted DMVPN (mGRE).
    Problem:
    - NHRP is causing high CPU load on the ASRs. With around 2000 spokes up and running on DMVPN the CPU is overloaded with NHRP traffic. We're talking like 60-70% load caused by the NHRP process alone!
We're using 'ip nhrp interest' on all the spokes - and farms. We're in need of the spoke-to-spoke functionality so we allowing LAN-segments of our customers but denying everything else.
    Solutions?
    1. Turning off all NHRP resolutions? Basically remove any directly spoke-spoke communications (denying everything on the interest list). We can't go there since a lot of our customers are in dire need for directly spoke-spoke connectivity (due to latency). Haven't tested that it will actually give the much needed scalable solution either (we're facing around 5000 spokes in the next 2-3 years).
    2. Chopping the DMVPN solution up in lesser VPN-blocks. This will administratively be a nightmare.
    3. ?
Will really appreciate if anyone have a input here. It's really hard finding anything about a LARGE scale phase3 design on the web. Everything I find seems to mix stuff from small-scale phase 2 and 3 - making it rather messy cooking reciept for a small breakfast while I need a 7 course perfect dinner
When will Cisco come with an updated design guide btw?
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your quick reply.
Our ASRs (rp1) are acting as BGP RR while the farm routers are setup as RR clients.
We haven't tried connecting spokes directly to the ASRs but we have seen the same symptoms on the 7613s (sup720) and the 7200-platform.
Earlier the 7600 had the same role the ASRs have today. We were expecting that the ASRs should be doing "a better job" in terms of CPU load but we were wrong (NHRP generated around 10% more cpu load on the ASRs in comparison).
We concluded that the ASRs have a less optimized OS (coding) being rather new and all. Further we're not all happy about the stability of the platform (clear ip nhrp or taking a shutdown on the tunnel in the current situation will crash the router. 15.1(2)S1 and 15.1(3)S0a adv ip services). Haven't made a TAC case of it yet but will (has to be a bug as I see it since the 7200/7600 is handling this just fine).
Due to what I mentioned above I don't dare to debug the problem in production time and have to wait until the next scheduled maintenance window for some decent debug output (24. Oct).
We've contacted Cisco AS for assistance since it's hard to find local consultants (Norway) with enough knowledge of such scenario.
I just hope it's a config-issue and not a design issue, but we're willing to to whatever for this to scale to the thousands.

  • Flash causes very high CPU load (including high Xorg load)

    Hello everybody,
this is my first message. I'm an Arch user since a few months, and I'm pretty sure this is the distribution I'll stick to - I pratically love everything about it, especially its simpleness. It's the first Linux that doesn't scare me away with tons of configuration files scattered around dozens of different locations. I've already gotten quite a number of things fixed by myself without even looking at the forum or wiki.
Well, it seems most of these statements can be found in most first forum posts, so I'll stop to bore you...
The problem: Playing flash videos or animations causes incredible processor load: Even youtube takes a whole CPU core (or even a little more), top shows around 80% for Xorg and around 20-30% for Firefox (a little less with Opera). I'm on Arch64 with XFCE, Athlon X2 4600+, NVidia 8200 chipset (which has severe driver problems anyway; I'm using the latest NVidia beta driver). I'd try the open source nvidia driver, but (it seems that) there's no support for my chipset yet.
Currently I'm using Adobe's Flash64 alpha, before that I used various versions fo the nspluginwrapper. 32-bit Flash also caused high CPU load, but it wasn't that much and it may have been related to nspluginwrapper rather than anything else; however I have got the impression that things became even worse with the switch to the x64 alpha (performance-wise; on the other hand, it at least loads faster and doesn't crash anymore). Like said before, youtube takes one core, but it mostly works ok then, but videos with higher resolutions that youtube's are practically impossible to watch (except when there is very little movement in the film). Neither Flash hardware acceleration on nor off makes any difference.
I've already read half of the web, searched in forums, wikis, etc., but didn't find anybody with the same problem. When Flash64 was released and people were reporting good improvements, I was hoping it would be the same for me...
What I'm looking for is suggestions of things to try... I'm out of ideas what to try and where to look. It just seems strange that I seem to have problems that others don't...
Thanks for reading and for any comments.

Really funny. The internet is a small place, obviously. Us meeting in a Linux forum also explains why nobody writes to the LSML anymore.

  • High CPU load

We use vSphere 5.5 with latest updates, Web Client and the VMware Remote Console 7.0.1. But we have problems on our Citrix Terminalserver (Windows 2012 R2): When we close a Remote Console, the prozess "vmrc.exe" didn´t disappear and causes a high CPU load (one complete core). This happens when we use the IE, Chrome or Firefox.
I don´t know why this happens, have anyone an idea? Thank you!

One thing to check is that there isn't some other process running in the background which is also using a lot of the CPU. Open Activity Monitor and select "All Processes" at the top and "CPU" on the bottom bar. If you find some process other than the BOINC that is using a lot of the CPU, highlight it and quit it and see if this helps.
If you haven't already, install iStatPro from the Apple site and keep an eye on your computer temperatures and on your fans. As long as your fans are working properly, they should keep your processor cool enough to not overheat.
It might also be worth investing in a chill mat, just to help keep your Mac cool overnight.
    Good luck!

  • Isa 2006 wspsrv.exe high cpu load

I have an ISA 2006 Server which run for 5 years without any problem. As the hardware is getting old now I have decided to change the Hardware to a new server but was unable due to the hardware to install Server 2003 which ISA runs only on this one as it
is 32-bit. I then decided to install server 2008 R2 and install isa 2006 on a vm. Installed all updates patches on server 2008 and the 2003 running on VM, SP1 for ISA.
Everything went fine, transferred the rules and Exchange and everything works fine.  However, every day, two days three days, very randomly and no systematically timeframe isa 2006 wspsrv.exe get a 99% high cpu load and then the service makes
the internet to stop.  No internet access anymore, no ping by name or IP.  Rebooting the server fixes that problem until it happens again.  It also happens during different time when people are working or even during the weekend when noone is
    working on the system.
I have no idea anymore what I could do next.  ISA is the only thing installed on the Server
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi,
The blog analyzed a scenario that the high CPU is caused by the third party driver. You could refer to the steps in the blog to troubleshoot this issue.
    Quote:
What we can conclude here is that we have a condition where wspsrv.exe was allocating more and more threads without releasing resources (releasing threads) because it was getting stuck waiting for an answer from kernel driver.
Some threads were working on I/O, mainly socket and LRPC call (almost socket) that run in Kernel mode. The third party driver is causing every AFD call to take more time and more CPU cycles, the fact that ISA is extremely using sockets amplify the problem.
The third party kernel driver was uninstalled from ISA Server and the issue was resolved.

  • High CPU load kills ethernet connection

Short spikes in CPU load (MenuMeters installed) are constantly killing my internet connection.
I use an ethernet connection with a cable modem (Motorola SB 4200 E) and have a MB 2 CD, 2 GB of RAM and OS X 10.4.9.
After the ethernet connection is killed, only a complete re-start can fix the problem (and today alone I had to do something like 15 of them already).
These sudden spikes in CPU load can be caused by all different kinds of activity, e.g.
1.) playing back video files which my machine has problems dealing with (like .mkv files),
2.) playing back 'regular' .avi files,
3.) browsing the net (Camino, Safari, Opera, Firefox) and displaying flash content (just watching something on youtube creates a CPU load which kills the connection regularly),
4.) any kind of activity which asks a high CPU load in general.
It seems that the problem is caused by the CPU load in general, not by any particular application which causes the high workload.
    What I have tried:
    1.) PRAM reset
2.) Apple Hardware Test (extended, loop)
    3.) de-installed Flash player
4.) created a new user (admin)
5.) made a clean 10.4.11 install on an external USB drive and booted from there
6.) used Airport instead of the ethernet/cable modem
7.) checked system temperatures (which are ok)
    8.) changed/exchanged/checked the RAM
9.) made enough free disk space on my HD (15 GB)
    10.) repaired disk permissions
    but to no avail.
Any help would be very much appreciated (since I'm ready to get a MS machine and wave my Mac good bye).
    Kind regards

  • Osx 10.9 Mail & Safari High cpu load

    Hello,
A few weeks ago I updated to OSX 10.9. After working a few days with it, I run into several high CPU load issues.
    2 processes: mail-webmateriaal and safari-webmateriaal (dutch).
Now I use Chrome instead of Safari which solves 50% of my problem, but it is not so easy to change to another mail-client...
Does anyone have a clue about the possible cause, but even more important, a solution?
    Best regards,
    Johan

    jvdstoel,
Ditto.  I have the exact same OS 10.9 issue on a Late 2008 iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo that is maxed out at 4 GB RAM (seemed like a lot of RAM at the time).
Mail, Safari, and Firefox--but not Chrome--whether running any 1, 2, or all 3 programs together keeps the CPU running hard at and often above 100%.  This occurs even when the programs a sitting idle from the user's perspective.  Disabling all extensions on Safari and Firefox did not help.  Nor did running Onyx to clear all catches system wide.
Calling on anyone with a virtual PhD in Maverics (or real Apple OS 10.9 street-smarts) for suggestions.
    Best,
    Pete

  • Enabling NSX on cluster cause high CPU load

I'm testing NSX in my nested vSphere lab, when enable NSX on cluster each nested esxi starts to use 100% of 1 pCore assigned to nested ESXi.
esxtop shows that netcpa process use 100% of resource of 1 pcore.
Also I try to reproduce that situation on physical hardware, and the result was the same, netcpa uses 100% of one pcore.
Is it normal situation? Why NSX uses so much resource.

You'll have to give more details:
-is hardware on vSphere and NSX HCL?
    -physical hardware specifications
    -NSX version
-vSphere components installed, versions and baseline functionality (is environment falling apart or functional and super fast)
-How far have you gotten with the NSX deployment...did you fully deploy solution or stop at the host preparation step when you noticed high CPU load
-are there any other problems in environment or with host/s
    -is the solution licensed properly
-have you checked the netcpa log file on the ESXi host?
-have you checked the hostd log file on the ESXi host?

  • Flashplayer 11.3 high cpu load + stutters

Hey all, I recently updated my Flash Player Plugin for Firefox to version 11.3.300.268. This results in a high CPU load for the Flash Player process like 30 to 40 percent with a 480p YouTube video and some higher percentages when watching flash video on other websites. The highest percentage must have been like 70% while watching a simple flash video on another website. This high CPU load is not the only problem. The video/audio stutters from time to time and especially when you open a new website, even light ones like Google.com. This problem occurred before but at that time I downgraded my version to flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_32bit.exe which is the latest version of Flash that is working correctly on my system.
    Some specs:
    Windows Vista Home 32-bit
    Intel Celeron M530
Intel 965 Express Chipset with latest installable drivers via HP website (7.15.10.1839)
    Firefox 14.0.1.
Possible solutions that had no effect:
Turning off HW acceleration in Flash settings.
Turning off HW acceleration in Firefox settings.

Same issue here. I'm going to downgrade as well, as it's making watching embedded videos very frustrating.

This does not happed outside working hours. The router is used only for VPN's (No NATing). It terminates around 25 tunnels but there is not a lot of traffic through the tunnels.
The extremly high load started mondat morning and continues this morning. During the weekend it was fine. Earlier we would have situations when the CPU would spike but it would soon be down to normal values.
From what I read the above output means that the CPU load is caused by interrupts. What is the best way to troubleshoot this?
    Regards.

Sorry I wasn't clear, but when I was asking about "not a lot of traffic", I was wondering about actual  volume passing through the 2811.
When I asked about "kind of tunnels", I was wondering about how they are configured.  E.g. GRE or IPSec/GRE or VTI, encryption options, other tunnel interface options.
Perhaps the easiest way to check for fragmentation, is packet analyze the traffic passing through the 2811.

  • High CPU load on SAP DB and App server

    Hi ,
I'm running SAP v4.6C on Oracle. Hardware is an IBM SAN. I am getting high CPU load on both production servers and cannot trace the source. Even when I shut down SAP and Oracle the CPU runs at approx 50%. I run process explorer to get more detail and it shows Hardware Interrupts as chewing up the CPU. A reboot gives temporary relief, but start SAP and it goes back up. There is a lot of paging, but that drops down low when SAP is stopped, and CPU stays high. Are there any hardware/OS gurus who could assist with where to start next.
    Thanks
    Gerg

What is the kernel time? Can you make a screenshot and post it somewhere?
    Something is strange here:
as far I as know the System Idle Process (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_idle_process">see also here</a>) is not the problem, it indicates that the system has 97% of CPU free.
However, if SAP/DB are stopped and you have 97% idle, it contradicts to your information before.

  • High CPU load with nfs4

Has anyone noticed a high cpu load when transferring over nfs4.
My arch box has a dual core amd with 4 gig of ram.  It has a rocketraid 2320 card being used for a 8 1TB mdadm raid 6.
I am transferring from ubuntu -> arch box.  I am noticing high cpu on both sides.  I dont know if its an nfs issue or what.
On the arch side I am seeing high usage from nfsd , flush-9:0, and an mdadm process.  Both cores are sitting around 50%.
Anyone run into this or know if its an issue with nfs4? or maybe different nfs versions of ubuntu and arch.
    Thanks.

Adobe need to realize that once their great product with a lot of penetration into the web ad + ria market is starting loose its ground as they simply can't address ongoing issue on their poor flash plug-in performance other than on windows platform. There are a lot of flash enthusiast out there but this poor support from the Adobe doesn't help this much further. One of the reasons why other software vendors pushing for more open standard RIA platforms other than Flash based...
Only suggestion that I have with Adobe is that if you can not get it right then, it may help to open up flash player source to the community. I am pretty sure that there are a lot of developers out there who can help out to drive better code base for the player and in turn make flash more adopted by non non ms windows user base. At the moment, I have installed "Click2Flash" and "FlashBlock" to save majority of CPU cycle on my MacBook Pro. Imagine the impact on this for future Adobe product. All online ad will slowly move away from flash based and in turn loosing entire market share it has successfully built over the years... Well must note that MS isn't much better either... MS RDP client is permanently turned off from my system, now I'm using CoRD instead..
I sincerely hope to see some major performance improvements in near future.

  • TouchPad driver: relatively high CPU load and loads of registry accesses

Under Vista 32 SP1 with the current UltraNav drivers (v 9.1.3.7) the process "SynTPEnh.exe" is creating a relatively high CPU load (2%) and is constantly accessing the registry. See here for a typical pattern creating by Process Monitor:

    Can this driver be optimized?
Also, when I use the TrackPoint to scroll in Firefox or in other applications, scrolling is not as smooth as when I use a simple external mouse with a wheel. Moreover, while scrolling with the TrackPoint, the "scrolling cursor" flickers.
