6hr old T400 and Windows has been corrupted twice already !

I've now owned this T400 for 6 hours and in that time Windows has become completely unusable twice !! I'm now looking at doing a factory restore again.
All I'm doing is running the Lenovo update utility, downloading the recommend patches, and then when I reboot the machine, Windows just sits either at the 'Welcome' screen or the desktop (but without any icons loaded). After 20 minutes or so I have to reboot the machine because nothings happening, and then on the next reboot the same happens, only worse because I get errors like 'explorer.exe cannot initialise'.
Is this machine just bad, or am I not supposed to installing the updates recommended by Lenovo ??!?

Welcome the the Lenovo forums!
With symptoms like you describe, it would be good to check your T400 for a hardware problem. I suggest booting your machine from the PC Doctor boot CD and running all tests.
If PC Doctor doesn't find any problems, I'd still run a couple more tests:
Boot Memtest86+ to check your RAM. Let it run for at least one complete pass, or even overnight.
Boot the hard drive diagnostic CD from the manufacturer of your hard drive. Each manufacturer has their own. (They'll usually work even on other manufacturers' hard drives too.) You can download them from the manufacturers' websites. Or, Ultimate Boot CD is a handy boot CD that contains hard drive tests from several manufacturers. Run the extended tests on your hard drive.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".

Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:

I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

There seems to be an issue w/ Windows 7 + CS4 FLA files where
some don't open with the error "The docfile has been corrupted".
The same FLA opens fine in Vista or OSX on the same machine &

I've received these errors as well, and yes, of course Adobe
won't offer solutions to the problem yet since Windows 7 is in
BETA. Here's a simple explanation of a beta release:
"The beta version of a software release is considered to be a
preview. It sometimes has all the standard features, but is not yet
ready for wide release or sale. During this point, the company will
collect feedback from users about the product's usability —
what they like and what should be changed — before the
product's wide release."
So, it would be in all of our best interests to send feedback
about this issue directly to Microsoft through their "send
feedback" link that appears on every window in the beta OS. When
the OS releases, that's a whole new story if the error still
occurs.

You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

Based on the description, you got warnings when you tried to click the mailbox delegation option of mailbox properties in EAC. Is it right?
Did this issue affected only one user mailbox or all of them?
From the error message, it seems that this issue is related to the corrupt permissions. Please use the
Get-MailboxPermission cmdlet to retrieve permissions on a mailbox to check result.

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

Maybe it's set as a login item:
- System Preferences: Users and Groups:
- Highlight your user account in the left pane/list
- Click "Login" tab at the top.
See if you have an Automater action on the list
- Note, you can select it, then right-click, and can then select "Reveal in Finder". That way you might have an idea what installed it.

I guess you could try but I don't believe Apple can help with activation lock issues. They may, however, be able to determine if the Apple ID belongs to one of you and reset the password for you if you can prove your identity.
You might want to try calling Apple by going to https://expresslane.apple.com; click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. Perhaps they can help determine if it's your ID and reset the password for you (and they probably have more expertise in doing this than the Apple store).
