  • Question: 10gR2 database can not see the 11gR2 ASM diskgroup?

    Hi there,

    Single server(non-RAC)
    note: we don't want to upgrade 10gr2 database into 11gR2 yet. But we created the 11gR2 ASM, then a 11gr2 database on ASM, and plan to migrate datafile in 10gR2 database to 11gR2 ASM
    1. oracle 10gR2 installed first version: 10.2.0.3.0
    2. then install 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure, and created ASM (version 11gr2)

  • Upgrade 8.0.5 to 10gR2 & changing Characterset

    Can you please advise on the following,,
    I would like to upgrade 8.0.5 db(AR8iso8859p6) to 10g (AR8mswin1256) what is the best way to avoid character conversion ? O/s-Solaris
    (1)
    Exp from 8.0.5(ar8iso8859p6) and IMP in 9i (AR8MSWIN1256)
    then EXP 9i (AR8MSWIN1256) & IMP in 10g (AR8MSWIN1256)

    The only supported way is option (1) that you describe (using exp/imp). The intermediate version could be 8.1.7.4 instead of 9i - see the 10gR2 Upgrade Guide at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/preup.htm#i1007814

  • GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(DATASOURCE) = 'ORACLE'  DS 10gR1 vs. DS 10gR2

    I have a form that was compiled under 10gR1 DS and launches fine, but after compiling it under 10gR2 DS it is not responding in the same manner as 10gR1 to an if statement in the code checking to see if it is connected to an ORACLE database.
    In the 10gR1 version of the form
    The check to see if the form was connected to an oracle database would return false after EXIT_FORM(NO_VALIDATE);
    And this is what was expected to happen with the 10gR2 version of the form.
    But in the 10gR2 version of the form
    After the EXIT_FORM(NO_VALIDATE); statement
    the if GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(DATASOURCE) = 'ORACLE' statment returns a true and causes the form to break because its not connected to the database anymore but the code in this if statement contains sql against database tables
    How come only for DS 10gR2 after the EXIT_FORM(NO_VALIDATE); statement
    the get_application_property(DATASOURCE) = 'ORACLE' is true, Even though its not connected to the database anymore?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    HI...i have a similiar problem. we recently migration to 10g and still using oracle forms 6i. Problem is that i have a logon for which check the datasource to determine the status of the login user.
    If the user, currently is expired or logged out, it should remeber a message otherwise if the datasource is not oracle then show unable to connect on log out.
    On the form, there is a on_logon trigger..
    if i do a show message, i can see that if the user is expired it will not pickup the datasource, instead it is null, logging out the user.
    please have a look at the code below:
    logon(:login.user_name,:login.password||'@'||:login.instance_name,false);
    v_datasource := get_application_property(DATASOURCE);
    if v_datasource = 'ORACLE' then
    begin
    select account_status
    into v_status
    from dba_users
    where username = v_username;
    if v_status like 'LOCKED%' then
    v_message := 'This users account is locked - contact support';
    end if;
    if v_status like 'EXPIRED%' then
    :global.user_name := v_username;
    :global.new_password := 'N';
    :global.old_password := v_password;
    call_form('c_passmnt', hide, do_replace, no_query_only);
    if :global.new_password = 'N' then
    v_message := 'Password not changed - contact support';
    else
    :login.user_name := v_old_username;
    :login.password := :global.new_password_new;
    logout; SYNCHRONIZE;
    logon(:login.user_name,:login.password||'@'||:login.instance_name,true);
    end if;
    end if;

    =================================================================
    This detailed step-by-step guide was produced with the following article by Jason Price http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/price_10gws.html

    Success!!!
    I had to grant this permissions:
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'getClassLoader', '' );
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'accessClassInPackage.sun.util.calendar', '' );
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'setFactory', '' )
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.util.PropertyPermission', 'HTTPClient.socket.idleTimeout', 'write' );
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.net.SocketPermission', 'localhost', 'resolve' );
    call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'WS_TEST', 'SYS:java.net.SocketPermission', '127.0.0.1:8084', 'connect,resolve' );
    As I wrote earlier, WS_TEST is my user into which I load JAX-RPC client. Note that, if you load JAX-RPC client into user another than SYS, you have NOT to use -s -grant public option (wassam wrote about this too). Another thing is that I (finally) didn't load OC4J. To consume WebService I use utl_dbws.invoke(call_Handle CALL, request SYS.XMLTYPE) function.

  • 10gR2 installation problem on HP-UX 11.31 on Itanium

    Oracle 10gR2 installation on a HP-UX 11.31 Itanium just hangs at the "./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs &". OraInstall log shows "-ignoreSysPrereqs" as the last line & the installation doesn't move at all. Any ideas, why ?

    Hello,
    I didn't had this problem with the same binaries last year on hp-ux 11iv3 but i have it now.
    The things that changed is the OS (last HP-UX version, always 11iv3 but patched) and the hardware but i am not in charge of them and have no time to investigate.
    The solution provided (use of the JVM from the OS) is OK for me.
    UPDATE : after consulting the Doc 780102.1 on Metalink, we can see that the bug is due to the installation of the September 2008 update of HPUX 11iv3, the solution given is to set jvmloc option.
    Regards.

  • 10gR2 RAC and XA transactions

    We have a 3 node 10gR2 cluster. The middle tier is using XA drivers. They are connecting to the database via a load balanced service where all nodes are preferred. DTP for the service is also set to No.
    Does anyone know if this setup could be problematic?
    We recently had some very odd behavior occur where we could we could not connect to one of the nodes and had to forcefully reboot the entire server to get it back. We found out after the fact that the middle tier was configured for XA.
    Any insight/experience is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jarred

    Any specific error message when the application can't connect to any of the nodes?

  • Slow performance Designer 10g (on 10gR2 database)

    We are busy testing Designer 10g version 10.1.2.5 (windows XP) on 10gR2 64 bit database (Sun solaris) . The repository was migrated from Designer 6.0.
    But the performance/response is rather slow. Example: At first, opening a server model diagram took 2 minutes or more. By searching the forum we found the tip for the "alter system set OPTIMIZER_SECURE_VIEW_MERGING = false;". That made a big difference.
    But now we still have response problems: Expanding the treeview for the list of tables, views or snapshots takes much longer then in Designer 6.0.
    Also opening for example Design Editor takes longer then one normally expects, allthough some delay can be expected because we have a lot of applications (100) in the repository.
    Is it because it is now written in Java, or are more database optimizations possible?
    Paul.

    Have you computed statistics using the Repository Administration Utility (RAU)? The default percentage of 20% is usually good enough, but you could go higher.
    Do a View Objects in RAU and check for missing, disabled or invalid objects. If you find any, there are ways to correct the situation, mostly under the Recreate button.
    Make sure that no-one else is using the repository, then press the Recreate button in RAU and use the selection labeled: Truncate Temporary Tables. Sometimes these tables get too full and can impact performance.
    Under the Options menu in RAU, there is an item labeled: Enable Performance Enhancements. To be honest with you, I've never noticed this item before, and I don't know for sure what it does. Then again, I've never had any serious performance problems in Designer. It might be worth your while to back up your repository, then turn this on.

  • 10gR2 OUI failure on Windows XP Pro SP3

    I had 10g Express edition running successfully but wanted to move up to 10g Standard / Enterprise.
    I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and my computer has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor.
    I have downloaded the windows 32bit version of 10gR2 (10201_database_win32.zip).
    When I run the setup.exe it runs a cmd shell for 15 seconds or so but then has a fatal error and closes.
    By then it has displayed the following:
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    No pre-requiste checks found in oraparam.ini, no system pre-requiste checks will be executed.
    Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2008-05-15_10-05-35AM. Please wait ...Then I get:
    oui.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    We are sorry for the inconvenience.and get the option to send a report to Microsoft.
    I have checked that the file size and cksum values match those on the download page. They do.
    I have now uninstalled the Express version in case that was getting in the way somehow. It made no difference.
    I have checked the certification details and it seems to be OK.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi,
    I'm experiencing I believe exactly the same thing. I start oui from a directory with no spaces, and with a temp directory path that also contains no spaces (set TEMP=c:\temp before running setup). The following appears in a new console window, and after a few seconds, the console window closes with no additional information. I do have XP/SP3 -- has anyone seen this situation and solved it and/or can anyone confirm that SP3 is the issue? Thanks.

  • JRE Error : while Install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003

    Hello,
    I am trying to install a Oracle 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
    I have unziped the files and when I run the oui.exe it gives the below error:
    cannot find any matches for wildcard specification "../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.5.0.0./1/DataFiles/*.jar
    Error : JRE missing in Scratch Path
    I tried changing the oraparmaini file but it did not allow to make any changes.
    Not sure if its looking for any particular java files.
    What should i edit ,to specify the java location.
    Thanks

    What exactly did you unzip? This error occurs if there are several zip-files extracted to different target locations. But - if I remember correctly - 10gR2 database is only one zip-file, so you should not face this issue. JRE for OUI is part of the downloaded software,so you don't need to specify a location for JRE, OUI knows where to find this.

  • Unable to install Database 10gR2 on Windows 2003

    Hi,
    I have Windows 2003 EE with Sp2 installed. I am trying to install Oracle Database 10gR2 but i get error when i click setup.exe.
    The error is
    *Error in Writing to directory C:\TEMP. Oracle Universial Installer needs you to have permission in this area to install. Installation cannot continue. Please make sure TEMP is set to a valid writable directory.*
    Kindly please help me on this.

    I am logged in as admin user and c:\temp is writable. However, i would also like to present one observation that i have made.
    My Windows 2003 environment variable is as below
    TEMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
    TMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
    When i use this parameter setting the error shows different path.
    Error in Writing to directory E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCAL~1\TEMP. Oracle Universial Installer needs you to have permission in this area to install. Installation cannot continue. Please make sure TEMP is set to a valid writable directory.
    But when i change the TEMP paramaters to (i.e i add ";" at the end) then error show different path.
    TEMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp *;*
    TMP = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp *;*
    Error in Writing to directory C:\TEMP. Oracle Universial Installer needs you to have permission in this area to install. Installation cannot continue. Please make sure TEMP is set to a valid writable directory.
    Not sure why this is happening and i believe Windows 2003 SP2 new security policy is restricting me to access the TEMP directory on E:\ drive

  • Installation of oracle 10gR2 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS

    can we install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS ???
    While doing sqlplus from command prompt,
    it's giving error like
    'SP2-1503 Unable to initialise Oracle Call interface'
    'SP2-0152 Oracle may not be functioning Properly'
    How to troubleshoot the above errors,
    Has anybody tried it ???
    Plz assist.

    No Oracle product is certified against any Windows Home OS.
    As Vista was released after Oracle 10gR2, 10gR2 is not certified against any edition of Vista.
    You need to downgrade to XP, or install Linux.

  • XQuery performance in Oracle 10gR2

    Hello
    I'm actually trying to measure the performances of XQuery FLOWR queries on Oracle 10gR2. For that, I've created a simple table with one integer field (ID) and one XMLType field. This XMLType field contains 10000 documents. The size of these documents varies between 2Kb and 14Kb approximately.
    A simple XQuery like below (without "WHERE" or complexe "RETURN" clause) runs quite well and I get the query results in a resonable time.
    SELECT xtab.COLUMN_VALUE
    FROM contractXDraft, XMLTABLE(
         'declare namespace ctxCD="contractX/contractXDraft";for $x in /ctxCD:contractXDraft
         return
         <response>
              Hello
         </response>'
    PASSING OBJECT_VALUE) xtab;
    On the other hand, if a add a "WHERE" clause to filter the results, the query execute time become very long (~hours...) and I must always abort the query execution by killing the "oracle" process because the page file memory used by this process increase linearly ! Here below is represented a such query :
    SELECT xtab.COLUMN_VALUE
    FROM contractXDraft, XMLTABLE(
         'declare namespace ctxCD="contractX/contractXDraft";for $x in /ctxCD:contractXDraft
    where $x/ctxCD:ReferenceDetails/ctxCD:ContractHeaderDetails/ctxCD:ContractNumber = "19163-contract657-2.xml"
         return
         <response>
              Hello
         </response>'
    PASSING OBJECT_VALUE) xtab;
    These above queries are executed on a server dedicated for these tests. This server is a Pentium IV 3.2 GHz with 1GB of RAM and Windows 2003 Server Enterprise SP1 is installed on it.
    I want to know if someone can give me an explanation about this huge difference of execution time between the two queries above ?? Is it a syntax mistake ? Is it an hardware problem ?
    Thank you very much for your help !!
    Regards
    MD

    MD,
    Sounds like your XMLType field is using unstructured storage (i.e., LOB-based) instead of the structured storage (i.e., O-R based). You can check out the XML DB online doc (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14259/xdb01int.htm#BABECDCF) to learn more about the differences between the two. Essentially, without any associated indexes, using XQuery over unstructured storage will result in a full table scan, which can be very slow when there are large number of rows.
    Regards,
    Geoff
