701, symbian belle, syncml problem, invalid remote...

It seems a common problem without solution which I am having now as well, but I think I found the reason why it's not working.

Error displayed on 701 invalid remote database.
As you can see the 701 is not sending the database name as it should, hence the error.
Can we have a fix now ?
n701 coming from a n97mini, waiting for FP2+fixes or FP3 and its syncml fixes !
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Problem found, it is not a missing call or missed function call but a rather simple case.
When setting up syncml on a new phone you can not use 'sync from server only' as the local database is none existing, set it to normal bidirectional sync (local is empty anyway) and it started to work... anytime later you can use 'sync from server only' as the local database exists.
Or make 1 future appointment(event) and 1 contact, then run 'sync from server only' as this creation action also creates the local(phone) databases.
It is a simple matter of databases not existing on the phone, the error message is misleading as the database selection parameter is passed in the primary process but discarded when checked against a local database, hence nothing gets send to the syncml server which returns a invalid remote database.
It is suggested for the syncml server to add a better description when no database name is passed.
It is suggested for the syncml client to check for the existence of a local database and display either a warning or create them before running the session.

  • Nokia 701 Symbian Belle Widget problem

when i see previews of themes on nokia store, there are some widgets that i don't have on my Nokia 701 (latest software update)...for example the (3G On/Off) widget and some others too, is there any place where i can get these widgets ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

These widgets are in the latest symbian Belle firmware that comes to S^3 devices like N8, C7 ... in february.
I think newer devices like your 701 will also get a software update of Belle.

  • E7 Symbian Belle - MMS problems

I own an Nokia E7 with Symbian Belle installed.
The MMS are received very small 240x240... even when they are sent in larger formats.
The E7 resizes the MMS to that size.
I changed the MMS settings to free mode and large image, but the problem remains.
    Does anyone has this problem?
And does anyone knows how to take care of it?

Well I can send photo's fine on my E7 running Belle, so would still suggest you contact your service provider to ensure you have the correct settings ! It's NOT a Belle issue

  • E7 SYMBIAN BELLE UPGRADE PROBLEM

When upgrading my Nokia E7 from symbian anna to symbian belle, the phone switched off and on restarting, it dispay a text: '' phone startup failed, contact retailer.'' what can i do about this? your concern will be appreciated.

If the warning came during the update and the phone no longer works you may have to take to a Nokia Care Point to be reflashed, if you can start the phone with a Three finger reset, try to reinstall Belle. If the phone has started misbehaving after completing the update, then as mentioned before, do a reset and reinstall Belle.

  • All about Symbian Belle Problems.

    Hi,
Here are my full list of problems, suggestion i would like to  keep infront of you.
I sent the problems via ''CONTACT US'' and to some Nokia employee via PM but they just can't....
No problem is solved in software update.
Of Course that's really tough though
    Here is the list,
Just copied from the sent items.
Please neglect if something is repeated.
    1.
1.Screen starts blinking when a new meassage arrives!
Screen starts blinking ( ON/OFF) continuosly sometimes after unlocking keypad when phone shows new message arrived. Screen blinks at the rate of  8-10 times per second. We need to press end key to stop it.
    2. Brightness:
In indoors or in low light conditions after Light time-out the screen brightness should be reduced, but brightness increases!!?
When we touch the screen brightness reduces back to normal. This repeats again and again. That is why i have to increased light timout to 60 seconds to avoid disturbance to eyes.
Sometimes light sensor doesnot work at all outdoors while using maps.
    3.Slowdown of phone.
Phone slows during and after installing or removal of sis packages.
I have lot of apps installed from Nokia Store.
    4. Menu scrolling and appearance of icons in menu after installation:
When we have more games and apps installed , the menu won't scroll smooth. It strucks in between and jumps to last item.
    5. Appearance of icons in menu after installing apps games takes half a minute! Ofcourse i have many apps and games installed.
    6.
Side unlock key vibrations. Unlock key vibrations sometime won't vibrate. We need to goto profile and reactivate the profile. Maybe this is third party app problem.
    7. Camera:
When shooting CRT TV, the screen is not stable. I can shoot without problem on my Nokia C3-00.
    8. Camera  hidden in background and runs continously:
Battery dries very fast sometimes, the day when i use camera, i use Best Taskman by Smartphoneware. You know what camera application will be still running  in background SOMETIMES though long pressing menu key shows no Open applications!!
So camera will be sometimes running hidden even after closing it.
    9. Touch screen answer key:
Touching answer key on screen won't work sometimes when there is a incoming call, apps, maps, or browsing.
Sometimes phone restarts when a call arrives at that time.
    10. Connecting phone in mass storage mode.
When i connect my phone to computer in mass storage mode, it is obvious that all apps games which are installed on mass and memory card becomes unavailable,
but wallpapers applied from mass and memeory card will not be re applied to homescreen back as wallpaers once mass storage mode is changed or even after removing cable connected to pc.
We need to apply them manually again or we need to apply wallpapers from internal memory!
    11.Widgets.
There is a problem with mail widget. We cannot scroll it continuously. When  we scroll it once it scrolls and while scrolling if we continue to scroll again it won't scroll but stops scrolling. So one scrolling attempt after another makes the scroll stop!!
These are some problems and bugs present on Symbian belle on NOKIA 701.
Please solve them and provide software update.
    Thank You.
    In Love With Nokia.
    2.
Here are some more bugs and problems of Symbian Belle-Nokia 701.
1.Widget arrangement in landscape mode gets changed on its own automatically when a widget in portrait mode successfully fits but it couldn't in landscape. We'll be not knowing what happens in landscape mode  widget arrangements!
It would be better to have auto arrangement of widgets when we move another widgets in the homescreen.
2.Brightness variation during video playback is bit annoying.
    3. Music files are not actually arranged according to album name, albums are again differentiated by contributing artists.
So to group the songs of an album, We have to delete all the contributing artists of all the songs of that album or change the contributing artists name to a common name.
4.I don't know what happens when i swipe the album art while playing a song using music player on 701.
When i swipe from left to right for the first song of an album, the song plays from the beginning or restarts. When i swipe from right to left it plays the next song, and when i again swipe from left to right it plays previous song. Well i just don't use swiping on album. Because it is confusing.
5.When i connect my 701 in Ovi suite mode and browse files using Computer-Portable devices-Nokia 701-Mass Memory-Music folder and while the music player is playing music, it starts showing 'media transfer in progress' and it won't go even after closing the folder in the computer.
'Media transfer in progress' message appears specially when i enter music folder of the mass memory!!
So these are some more bugs and problems which i found again.
    Thank you.
    3.
I have been taking photos of some pages.
What happens is that some images gets stored in landscape mode and some gets stored in portrait mode, though i kept the mobile in the same position while capturing. I think this is a problem with auto rotation. One more issue is with in-line editing, for example in opera mini. I we write something using prediction activated, we cannot move the cursor to previous word. To do this we need to deactivated prediction and we can move the cursor left or right towards desired words. I think this is maybe problem of 3rd party apps. This problem doesn't exists in other areas of phone like messaging. It's good. One more problem i have already sent to you is unlock or key vibration. When i remove the phone from charger the vibration doesn't work. We need to goto profiles and reactivate the profile again. Well these are some other problems i noticed in symbian belle of 701. Thank you. In love with Nokia.
    4.
Another issue is with editing contact. I cannot select the numbers easily to delete them or add some digits to theme. I cannot touch and scroll to move the editing page, i have use side scroller to scroll to bottom or top. Will post some more problems if found on Nokia 701. I hope that posting like this is not annoying to you. Thank you.
    5.
    Hello,
    1.
I was using wifi on my two phones today, C3-00 and 701. I have noticed that wifi was repeatedly disconnecting(There was less wifi signal) on my 701, C3-00 was accessing same wifi without any problems. Even if 701 connects for a while, speed was too slow, very less than my C3-00.
    2.
Task switcher which takes snapshots of apps sometimes takes wrong snapshots when we long press home key. Will post if any issue with my 701. Thank you
    6.
I was using nokia drop application to install apps from ovi store.
It have installed many apps but two apps were taking much time to install so i pressed end key and ended the Nokia Store client,.
Now my menu icons and their names are interchanged, but when i add them to homescreen as shortcut it looks okay.
    7.
    2. Game play slows down and there will be hanging effects in the game (Angry birds) during and after the email alert.
3.I don't know but i just couldn't find stereo video recording, i checked the with my earphones but couldn't find any stereo effect.
    4. Nokia account signin confirmation appears on the screen whenever i boot to Homescreen. Maybe because of new Nokia store installation! But interesting thing is that the same Nokia login confirmation appears even after turning off the phone and after connecting the charger!!! Switching the phone off and connecting the charger should only display battery meter at right top of the screen, but the login confirmation appears at that time.
    5. I had a YouTube icon in the menu. I just uninstalled it as u could play youtube via browsers itself. I later noticed that YouTube app was in Store. I downloaded it but i couldn't open it. On touching it just closes immediately. The interesting thing again is that you cannot open any Google mobile applications!!!! They just look like they are starting but gets closed immediately!! As youtube app in Nokia store!
    6. Applications screenshots. Screenshots which appear after long pressing menu are sometimes the screenshots of the Homescreen!
    7. File type icons in file manager are all look same for installation files like sis and java, office files etc.
    8. It would be better to have Homescreen sort option for easy arrangement and automatic movement of other widgets when we move desired widget on other widgets wherever there is a place for movement. Well these were some of problems, bugs and some suggestions i found. I will post some more if find any. Thank you.

    Symbian belle. Version 111.030.0609 Bugs.
    1.
I found a new problem with the scroller in the gallery. When we touch the scroller and move it completely to the bottom,
the scroller moves down inside the option button!
So we cannot scroll back again! We need to touch the gallery images and scroll so that scroller comes above the option menu!
    2.
Scrolling is pretty smooth compared to old software, but still seems some scrolling problem when there are more apps on the menu list!
    3.
There should have been a simple text editor! Please provide text editor software in Nokia store or full version Office.
    4.
Much of the productive softwares doesn't work in belle like Skype and even new updated joikuspot for example.
    5.
There should have been a record option in the options while calling and 4 columns option for menu icons.
    6.
Problem with the mailbox widget is not solved. Scolling continuously in the widget is not possible.
    7.
Brightness problem when we set display light timeout is still there. After 5 seconds after light timout display should become less bright but it becomes more bright -Works correct under bright light and works reverse in low light!!
Don't think that Nokia 701 has lots of problems.
I don't think that these are very big problems but are bearable though.
    Thank You.
    IN LOVE WITH NOKIA.

    @ khanjan_701
The menu ket blinking without any reason is caused by standby breathing light. This can be solved by going to settings>phone>notification lights>standby breathing light>breathing light>off. If not found under settings then try looking for it at profiles but I believe that in devices running Symbian Anna or Nokia Belle it is found at settings but with the E-Series like E71 and the other E-series except E7 and other E-Series running on Symbian Anna or Nokia Belle it is foound at settings.
Under settings>phone>notification lights>notification light>blink light for, you can set a specific amount of time you want the light to blink when a new message or missed call arrives. Under settings>phone>notification lights>notification light>events notified, you can choose whether the menu key blinks when either a new message or a missed call arrives.
Hope that this solution will help you. I currently have a Nokia N8-00 and by changing that setting the menu key only blinks when a new missed call or new message arrives.

  • E7 Symbian Belle Exchange ActiveSync Problem Greek...

I recently updated my phone's SW to Symbian Belle and have the following problem.
When replying  to a mail received in Greek language and although during writing (in Greek) all seems ok, after sending the mail the text is not readable (some sort of ascii? characters appear) neither by the recipient nor in my phone (send folder)

  • MicroSD cashing problem with Symbian belle update

It’s only been 14 hours since I have updated to Symbian Belle, but after a short period of usage I noticed that my music would lag for 0.5 - 3 seconds, sometimes once, sometimes a couple of times a song.
My song library was located on my MicroSD 16GB class2 card that has worked in this N8-00 for the full 1.5 years that I have it. I now have formatted the internal and external drives and put in the same one folder of music. I listened to the songs and what I found out is that the songs on my MicroSD are acting up. The phone completely locks up for 0.5 - 3 seconds and continues. Its seems to happen moor to songs with an higher than 256kbps bitrate.
My problem with this BUG, is that it now happends with the update to Bella, and not to Anna or befor, therefor concluding that the software is not optimized as much for MicroSD card use.
Have you have the same problem since Belle, using an N8 or other device? Please post below.

Well, I can definitely confirm that the Belle update is available for your product code. Other users facing the same issue mentioned that they had to un-install Nokia suite and re-install a fresh copy. You may also need to disable any firewall active on your PC (try this first before re-installing Nokia Suite).

  • Problem updating N8 to Symbian Belle-Error code 20...

    Hello.
I tried to update my Nokia N8 from Symbian Anna to Symbian Belle using Nokia Suite as it became available. The update got downloaded but while it was preparing to install, there was an error and its code was 2000. I retried several times but no luck. Same error 2000.
How do I fix this problem please!?
    Solved!

    @TroubleGirl
At this point in update process N8 has to disconnect from Nokia Suite connectivity mode and load an additional driver Nokia USB ROM to flash software and this doen't seem to be happening.
You could try repairing Nokia Suite installation, remove and re-install or perhaps use standalone Nokia Software Updater application:http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/...erSetup_EN.exe

  • Nokia 701 - Symbian Deserve this?

    Please note
It seems a rather illogical and questionable step by Nokia not to grant the portion of their customers that completely appreciate the purity of the Symbian platform with a fundamental upgrade in aspect of the 'screen size' given.
    X700 released prior offers 4inch, while the 701 with a 1Gb equivalent Processor, 512 RAM gets a 3.5inch? It's a good question?

jimmyireland, I respect your prediction that a new line up of phones running belle will hopefully be released, I honestly hope so.
Your right though, not everybody wants a 'bigger' screen. Good and fair enough call. However, Nokia is releasing 3 phones, 600, 700 and 701. All have 1GHz processors, but why out of the 3 releases, is there no consideration given to those that would prefer a larger screen? We're talking about larger screen sizes but in all respect to NOKIA, we're not talking MASSIVE, we're only comparing it with most of the other smartness out there available, which most come equipped with at least a 4inch screen!
Fair enough again, they say the 700 is one of their most compact and 'eco-friendly' smartphones, so OK, they are concentrating rather hard on achieving a smaller package BUT, to date, why is there not a phone out there that offers most of the capabilities of the N8, C7, etc, with 1GHz processor with a 'fair' screen size?
Since the release of the N8, you would expect considerable progress. Yes, with the Belle and software enhancements, they have achieved an extraordinarily level of accuracy on their QWERTY keyboard, considering a 3.5inch does still allow a user to quite comfortably type using two fingers holding an N8 upright BUT, in comparison again with the IPhone and many other examples, a 4inch offers much more level of accuracy and usability in regards to to this aspect.
Also in regards to camera's, I have another question. Has there since, the release of the N8, been some form of formal agreement not to pursue smartphones dominating the market regarding digital cameras? I mean who wants to pay hundreds of dollars for a digital camera when a few more hundreds could land you a smartphone that can do ALL!
Is this the reason the 12megapixel hasn't been adopted on later releases or were there just mere issues regarding the 12? Rather, will we see Nokia specifically in this case, pursuing on improving the camera qualities of their smartphones or is 8megapixel the new foundation?
Again I want to make clear. X7 released after, has a larger screen, much nicer but same specifications. It was clear a more powerful processor would be required to give the user complete comfort, specifically with the quality of of FLASH and JAVA on the native browser, which apparently does consume and require a lot of RAM to operate properly. There were all types of 'freezing' issues, 'lag', or just complete malfunction, since then I should say has been more than rectified with optimal software improvements BUT the question is still there, WHY?
A phone with the capabilities of the new ' beautifully evolved' Symbian Belle platform, along with a 1GHz processor, 512 RAM AND A ****4INCH**** screen would put it right up there as surely 'dominant' competitor with the IPhone 4, AND without much hesitation in my words, most likely would surpass the capabilities of the upcoming Iphone 5, whatever that is!
So again why is Nokia creating this MASSIVE problem? Choices, where is the choice everybody should HAVE with a 4inch screen!?

  • Symbian Belle Music Player

    hello people,
this is my first post here, so i start with a quick introduction:
i´ve been using a lot of different nokia-phones over the last 10 years, but had never used the phones as a music-player.
Until i bought a 5230 last year. This phone was used a music player. the s60v5-music player software was good, everything fine (well... "gapless playback" is still something i missed, but i come back to this later).
now i would like to upgrade to a faster device like the nokia 701, but...
i had sorting/tagging issues with the music player in symbian anna, when trying out the nokia c7, so i gave the phone back.
    and now my questions:
    1. does the music-player in symbian belle allow the old sorting used in s60v5? or at least any correct sorting of albums even if they are compilations?
    2. does the music-player in symbian belle alllow the creation of your own equalizer presets?
    3. i nearly dont dare to ask... could it be that nokia managed it, to get the player play the songs of an album gapless?
    some remarks:
to 1: if not, the solution would be to retag all my music??
to 2: why did they remove the option? is there a plan to get it back, maybe with a belle-update?
to 3: does really nobody at nokia listen to albums that need continuous play? live albums, classical music, electronic music, dj-mixes?
thank you for reading, and for possible answers!
    have a nice day
    p

Running my new N8 on Belle. (haven't treid it on Anna by the way ... )
1 conclussion : Very Disapointed (with capital V & A). what a piece of **bleep** it is !!
I really don't know where to put my disagree with this sh*t. It seems like there are several topics about it.
I've had a couple of Nokia's in the last years, but this is really... ( I don't have any words for it) after the upgrade to Belle.
You CAN'T properlily play a music album which is on a memory-card or on the phone itself !!!!
I can only play songs from an alphabatical list with singers. Not from an album !!! Making a playlist from a list of albums is also not possible ...  Made changes on the laptop with putting albumnames, changing artistnames, made m3u of playlists. Nothing works !!!
Why have they made it like this ??
I had a N86 8MP : perfect. You can choose what you want to play ; album or song. You could change the picture of the album. It had a little equalizer. Even my older 6500C had it !!! And therefore my 6300 had it !!!!!
Why made a change of something that was good ???
I really hope that the upgrade to Belle 112 (which is STILL NOT available for N8, but only for 700) whill resolve this kind of problems .... but I got a glitch that it won't ....
Bought an expensive N8 cause of the 16Gb inside and addional 32GB & 12MP camera, but iI can't used it like any other MP3-device ......  I really think it wil be my last Nokia ....
And this is not the last issue with Belle ...  Navigation is navigation. In the N86 you got some extra's with compass & searching sattelites & tripmeter... Non in the N8 ...
Looking pictures like dia from map to map is still not possible ... Only the complete list ...
Sorry Nokia, but you missed it completly with this "High End" phone....

  • Symbian Belle Release Rumour

According to various reports, the much awaited Symbian Belle update will not be available untill early 2012. This comes as a surprise as there are already leaked versions for N8 and C7, with Belle Shipped with the newer symbian smartphones.
So all those people who have S^3 phones like me, will have to wait it out.

I'm sorry, here i was thinking we were all buying cool phones like the N8 and the E7 (in my case), because we wanted a cool phone to make phone calls on, that happened to be able to run some cool apps, and play music, receive emails etc.
I was obviously so mistaken, it never occured to me that you all buy your cool phone JUST so that you can update the firmware. How silly of me.
Whoever believes you have a right to an update, think again, you dont. Nokia kindly give us updates because they want to, not because someone demands one, not because they have to, but because they want to. Yes there are financial reasons for them to do it, like brand loyalty etc but no law says they have to.
Other phones quite often get 1 update a year, the makers support the phone for a few years and then they stop. no more updates. Nokia already support their phones longer than most other manufacturers, they have more models than any other manufacturer. But even so one day there will come a time when your phone will no longer be eligible for updates. but I guess some of you will complain then as well.
I've said this before if your phone doesnt work for some reason take it to Nokia to have fixed, dont expect that an update will fix your issue. I read threads before Anna was released saying how certain peoples phone werent working and they demanded Anna "because that would fix the problem" These same people are now complaining saying they demand Belle to be released because they need it to fix their problems. You know i bet it doesnt.
Belle is just a firmware, it will look better, perhaps, it may run faster, perhaps, it may even do something that Anna cant do. But honestly its not gone change anything for you in your life. Demanding Belle to be released is not going to make Nokia release it any faster, trying to compare it to something that is not an official release is not even reasonable, not to mention that its not even legal in many countries under local communications laws to use such firmware on networks, that it hasnt been approved on.
Some of you have said that updates took to long to be released and that it was over 12 months before you got an update for your N8. This may be the case in your country, but this also may not have been Nokia fault, If a carrier doesnt approve an update then the carrier is at fault, Nokia has to obey the laws of that country no matter what.
Belle will be released when it is ready and not before. There are very good reasons why Nokia do not give dates for releases. One of the most important reasons is Carriers, Nokia has no idea of whether or not a carrier will approve a release or even how long they will take to give the go ahead on a release.
The next of course is getting the firmware ready for all the different handset that it is design for. Some carriers wont allow certain functions , so they have to be removed or blocked. This can then case a flow on effect to some other piece of firmware which is totally unintended, meaning that it no longer works properly, so then they have to redeign it.
These are only just a couple of things that can go wrong, and is part of a normal day in the world of code writing. Be glad that Nokia want to continue support for your phones. But also understand that the decision to allow a piece of firmware to be released is not Nokia's alone.
Whether its released this year or early next, it really is not going to change you much. So dont waste your time whinging and complaining about the fact that it hasnt been released and start looking forward to the day that it will be released. Trust me you will all feel better.
I can say 1 thing here whther or not this paulip person works for Nokia or not. I can afford to buy a new phone every year outright, E7 cost for than that here is Australia and I have bought 2 of them this year outright. when the E90 was released I paid over $1400 AUD for it. But even though these phones are costing more than many other phones here is OZ, I still wouldnt buy a different brand of phone, not at this point in time anyway, and certainly not for such a silly reason as an update.
I also find it a bit hard to accept that Belle has only just left alpha, mainly due to what we have seen to date. If he had said it had left Beta and is an RC then I agree. Unfortunately I didnt get to read his comments, only what has been commented on here.

  • Symbian Bell Security Help

    Hi,
I have been tinkering with the security settings on Symbian Belle and wonder if anyone can help with the following settings:
    Security Code
As the new 701 does not come with F-Secure's remote locking/wiping tool (I know you can download and install this from the F-Secure website) I thought I would try Nokia's own remote locking function but when I enabled it the phone now asks for the security code at all power ups? I really only want to enter this code if the phone is remote locked or the SIM is changed. I tried enablng the "Lock if SIM card changed" setting but this has not sorted the normal start up code request. The only way to stop this forced lock is to disable the remote locking function.....grrrrr. I assume this is working as designed rather than being a bug?
In addition to the above I wondered what the following security functions do?
Closed user group - Currently set to Default but has the option of On / Off. If you set to On it asks for a group number and defaults with a five digit code that I have not previously entered?
Confirm operator services - Currently set to No but can be set to Yes.....although have no idea what this does?
If anyone can help with these queries I would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I did find this but it only really confirmed how to set up remote locking, which is fairly straight forward to set up. Unfortunately the stock phone has now security code set up and as such when you set up the remote locking it forces you to set up a new code. I  did this but it now forces me to enter this code every time I switch on the phone. If I disable remote locking, this no longer happens. Ideally I would like remote locking and security code entry on SIM change.
Having played with it further it seems that this is just how it works so I might go down the F-Secure route as at least I can get the location of the phone.
Any clues on the other options?

  • Nokia 500 Review on Symbian Belle

After the update screen went through, I had my fingers crossed, and despite the screen saying “15 minutes remaining,” the update was finished in about 5 minutes.
Upon startup, there was a line of dots (….) which lighted up on after the other sort of like a loading bar and it was. After the loading came the usual language selection and Ovi suite options (“Create an Ovi Account” “I have an account” and of course “Later.”) after going through the Ovi suite options (literally took 10 seconds) my carrier had charged me about 0.45cents (USD cents) for the tips I had signed up on while I still had Symbian Anna on the device. Nokia suite was installing support software after the phone booted up and after 5 more minutes, I set the date, time and location and I was presented with the home screen. The standard home screen as on other Belle devices with the Flip clock, Ovi Social widget and 4 icons (Camera, contacts, Angry birds [oh yea!] and Maps) at the last widget’s position; at the bottom edge of the screen are menu, call and home screen options. The widgets take a few seconds to load but once they load they don’t lag. The second home screen has “Favorite contacts” widgets and 4 more icons (Messaging, Store, Calendar and Web), the third home screen has a Music player widget and the 4th home screen is blank for the user to customize. Unlike other Nokia/Symbian Belle devices, the Nokia 500 only has 4 home screens as opposed to 6.
The lock screen is similar to the Anna screen and is only redesigned. The Belle home screen allows usage of a background unlike Symbian Anna’s.
Now the menu: unlike Symbian Anna, the menu does not have an applications folder so everything is spread out on the home screen creating a mini mess. Luckily, there is an option to create a new folder in which to put your apps in.
In Symbian Anna, the keypad for ‘Call’ was not very user friendly as the ‘*’ and ‘#’ where not where they would be on a physical alphanumerical keypad, but on Belle, the keypad is identical to the physical one and very responsive.
    Apps:
While Symbian Anna lagged on the Nokia 500, Nokia Belle is very smooth. I don’t see any major changes with the camera on the 500 and the quality remains the same. There have been some rumors going around about the Nokia 500 getting HD video with the Belle update but these rumors are not true and the Nokia 500 remains with the usual 640p*313p video. While on Symbian Anna, there was no ‘Gallery’ icon but there is one on Symbian Belle and a separate ‘Videos’ icon is there too for easy access to downloaded videos (yes downloaded videos or those NOT taken with the phone’s camera). The angry birds app is a hugely wanted app for the Nokia 500 and is very identical to the computer version. Actually, it IS the computer version in smaller scale. Symbian Belle still allows the user to kill unwanted applications running in the background by holding down the menu key and clicking the ‘X’ icon. Ovi maps on the device is version 3.06 as predicted and even if not version 3.08, it still gets the job done.
The settings menu is the same and nothing major there too. On Symbian Anna, the Nokia 500 has many themes for different colors but on Symbian/Nokia Belle, the 500 only has one “Nokia Evolve” theme which means the users have to download their own themes for personalization.
Overall, the icons seem a bit smaller especially on the home screen and this makes the phone look abit tiny which it is. The size was not brought out in Symbian Anna but in Belle we can see how small the screen on the phone is compared to devices like the E7, N8 and Nokia 701.
With Symbian Belle, the Nokia 500 is able to really show its 1Ghz processor at work and even if it might not be able to play (fancy) 3D games due to the lack of a OpenGL compatible GPU, it can still allow us to play OpenVG games such as “Asphalt 6: Adrenaline” and “Nuke Defender 3D” available from Ovi store.

Great to see you are a happy user. I have just bought two Nokia 500 phones (another for my wife), upgraded to Belle, and both have the same infuriating problems:
    - system crashes half a dozen times a day without any warning (during calls, browsing, text messaging)
    - if I change the language for text messages, I cannot type anything (SMS) any more
    - when phone goes to sleep, it often won't wake up and I need to remove the battery (after doing this 4-5 times a day one starts to get very frustrated).
I am very disappointed and cannot recommend the phone to anyone. First Nokia that I feel this way with.
