8.1.6 on RedHat 6.1, OUI can't run, no JRE

What would cause this error message when trying to invoke runInstaller?
The Java RunTime Environment was not found at p/bin/jre. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.8 or higher and try again.
: No such file or directory
I've tried both ways with and without the JRE in my path, and I get the same result. I'm sure my jre 1.1.8 works when it's enabled in my path. (I've used it in the past to install 8.1.5, but 8.1.5 has been 100% deleted from the system)
I don't use any environment variables for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, etc.
null

In the Oracle 8.1.5 for Intel-Linux, the JRE files should be in /usr/local/jre. The installer find /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.

  • RedHat 7.2 and Oracle 8.1.7 JRE Hangs

    I have just installed RedHat 7.2 (workstation - did up2date -u)
and am trying to get Oracle 8.1.7 installed as well. After
doing a 'startx' as the oracle user, I then goto the mounted
cdrom drive and issue ./runInstaller. I then get the message:
    "Initializing Java Virtual Machine
    from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expande
    d/linux/bin/jre. Please Wait....
However I am then dropped back to the shell and nothing further
happens. I do notice, however, that a 'jre' process remains
running, using 99% CPU resources, so it looks like something is
    broken.
I have also followed the helpful webpage at
    http://staff.in2.hr/denis/oracle/817install_rh72_en.html however
it made no difference. On a different box, I had done an
install of the same Oracle disk, but on a RedHat 6.2 box and
    didn't have any problems.
Any help would be highly appreciated. Please feel free to email
me directly or ask for more details.
    Thank you,

first download and install jdk 1.1.8 version 3
    from www.blackdown.org or ftp.redhat.com
    (exactly jdk1.1.8 version 3, i don't know if anything
    else would work or not)
then install the Red Hat Linux 6.2 compatibility packages
    compat-egcs (compat-egcs-c++, compat-egcs-g++ and all
    compat-egcs-XXX) , compat-glibc and compat-libs
(thses are found in the installation CDs 1 and 2 of redhat 7.2)
then beofre running the installer define the following
    environment variables.
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    export JAVA_HOME= <Path to jdk 1.1.8 v3)
    export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
then source the following shell script by typeing the below line
as it is. (incuding the ".")
    . /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386 glibc21-linux-env.sh
    then run the installer.
DON"T Create a Database or network setup during Installation.
    Just Install Oracle 8i.
    Once done.
check for any patches available from Oracle and apply them.
change the following two shell scripts.
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbassist
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/netasst
    change the lastline
    from :- $JRE -classpath ....
    to :- $JRE -nojit -classpath ....
then ur ready to create a Database with dbassist and configure
    ur network params with netasst.
also be sure to turn on the redo logs after u have configured
the DB, in linux they are disabled by default.
I have done this on RH7.1 and belive 7.2 would be no different.
just be sure of the jdk and other stuff .
mail me if u need more help at [email protected]
    all the best :)

  • Can't run schconfig on redhat

    Hello all,
I want to configure the scheduler but when I want to open the configurator it says:
./schconfig: error while loading shared libraries: libnqutilitygeneric.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I did the following (after I had installed the database scripts):
    [applmgr@oracle-fst1lx setup]$ pwd
    /u01/oracle/obiee/oraclebi/setup
    [applmgr@oracle-fst1lx setup]$ ./user.sh
    [applmgr@oracle-fst1lx setup]$ ./sa-init.sh

./schconfig: error while loading shared libraries: libnqutilitygeneric.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    [applmgr@oracle-fst1lx Bin]$
The strange thing is that libnqutilitygeneric.so is in my Bin directory.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Best Regards,

    Hi Remc0
    Have you tried this:
    navigate to; /u01/oracle/obiee/oraclebi/setup
    .common.sh
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/oracle/obiee/oraclebi/server/Bin
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    navigate to; /u01/oracle/obiee/oraclebi/server/Bin
    ./schconfig
    The following link helped me in the past;
    http://bidwcz.blogspot.com/2007/05/obi-ee-jak-rozchodit-slubu-oracle-bi.html
Unfortunately it's in Czech, but the screen shots explain a lot.
    This could work.

Did you carefully go through all pre-req steps for install?
Oracle needs some "compatibility libraries" as well (compat-lib*). Here are packages for AS 10g, most or all of which apply to Database too.
    Checking operating system packages: gcc-3.2.3-20,compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.122,compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122,compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.122,compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122,setarch-1.3-1,pdksh-5.2.14,sysstat-4.0.7,gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-34.1,libstdc++-3.2.3,compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122,compat-glibc-7.x-2.2.4.32.5
When required packages are in place, there's another error lurking, related to __libc_wait symbol.
runInstaller "boots" OUI, which includes running a JRE from tmp. This JRE (build 02) is broken, but you can setup to run another one via oraparam.ini and JRE_LOCATION. Download build 10 from Sun (google "jre 1.3.1 download").

  • Can not install Oracle on Redhat 7.3

    I have installed Redhat 7.3 . I tried to install Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6).
But when I try to run runInstaller, nothing runs, Applet(JRE) does not open.
    what is the problem?
I have successfully installed this Oracle 8.1.6 on Redhat 6.2

    Hi there;
Here is what I have done to install Oracle8i 8.1.7 on Redhat7.3:
    Things you need to download:
    JAVA:
    Get the JDK - jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    Get the JRE - jre118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    use bzip2 OR tar:
    tar -xvjf jdk-1.1.8_v3.tar.bz2 -C /usr/local
    as well for jre118
    Symbolically link them:
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3/bin/java /bin/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3/bin/jre /bin/jre
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3 /usr/local/jre
    After you: tar -xvf /tmp/linux81701.tar
    chmod 777 Disk1
    cd Disk1
    chmod 777 runinstaller
Now you should be able to run the <runInstaller>
when you receive this error close to end just click on ignor:
Error in invoking target relink of makefile /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/precomp/lib/ins_ctx.mk" Or something similar
The below operations should be performed logged in as root.
changes must be done on the root.sh script:
    line 102 Read:
    RMF=/bin/rm -f
    changed it to: RMF=`/bin/rm -f`
    line 156
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}`
    change it to:
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}'`
    Execute the script root.sh.
Ignore the errors about not being able to delete the files.
After you finish with: Net8 Configuration Assistant:
The below operations should all be performed logged in as oracle.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME<In my machine is:cd product/8.1.7>
    tar -xvzf /tmp/glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    ./setup_stubs
    Then exit from: $ORACLE_HOME
and edit .bash_profile OR .bashrc whichever you modified in preinstall
add the following line: export ORACLE_SID=<whatever you named it during install>
My machine read as this: export ORACLE_SID=oral
At this point I strongly suggest you logg out from Oracle Account and re-log again
    Then edit this file: /etc/oratab
    and change: *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:N To *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:Y
Now you can use dbstart and dbshut scripts from the command mode to start and stop the database.
most likely when you try to start the database for the first time you will receive
the error: ORA-01081<you can't star database is already startet>
Then go to svrmgrl and connect internal and type: shutdown Abort
re-start your Database and you are ready to go!!!!!!
    Hope that is help

  • Installation OIM on redhat Linux really slow

    Hello,
I have a problem with the installation of OIM. When I try to install OIM on a linux server (redhat 5.0 64b) with the JRockit 64bits java 1.6.0 (jrmc 3.2.1-1.6.0) version the installer is just really slow. It takes ages for the command line installer to go to the next step.
has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
    greetings,
    Bas

The machine on which OIM is to be installed has enough memory, I believe it has 8GB..
The weird thing is that the first time we ran the installer, it was just normal (== fast) but the installation failed when deploying OIM into Weblogic and we can't run the weblogic deploy script, since this also fails.. (it throws a nameError: fail on the configoim.py script) That's when we decided to try to install OIM again from scratch.. so we moved the current installation directory to another location and started the installation again. This when the problems as decribed by Bas began.. The installer is really really slow.. we waited for more then 15 minutes for it to continue to the next step.. but it didn't. We checked the machine for spiking processes but the machine was totally idle..
Does anyone know what could be the problem? Are we doing anything wrong? or are we missing something?

  • Error: OUI.exe Stopped Working 11g R2 32-bit Client on Win 7 64-bit

I am receiving an error "oui.exe stopped working" when running setup.exe to install Oracle 11g R2 (win32_11gR2_client.zip for Win 32-bit) client on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I never even get as far as the Oracle installation dialog box. I am trying to install 11g R2 32-bit because it is my understanding the 64-bit version of Oracle client is not compatible with Toad for Oracle.
I have read numerous posts on the subject and have tried just about everything I can think of to get around the error. When I run the setup.exe -debug I can see that teh files are unzipped and the installer seems to fail when it hit the section where it tries executing java.exe. Once the dialog box appears with the error message, I am not able to get back to the command window to extract the debug results. I can only see it partially in the background behind the dialog box. When I hit cancel to close the error dialog, the debug window also closes, so no way to get the details of the debug results
I am logged into Win 7 as a member of the Adminstrators group and have verified that the Windows User Access Control (UAC) is turned off. I get the erorr message whether I run as Administrator or not. I have unzipped all the files and folders under the \client directory from the zip file to a folder c:\temp\. So the setup.exe and all folders below it are in the c:\temp directory. I did this because one post suggested an issue with long path names or path names with spaces when executing setup.exe.
Seems like it should not be this difficult. I never had issues in the past installing Oracle client on Windows XP Pro. This is my first attempt at installing under Win 7.
Any help or direction would be much appreciated.
    Edited by: user10421280 on Nov 21, 2011 1:27 PM

    orafad and PavanG,
First let me thank you both for your multiple attempts to help me. I finally figured out what was causing the issue with the Oracle Installer, oui.exe not running properly. Last night I was looking around into the Windows Event Viewer and found an Error entry for oui.exe that pointed to a program directory and .dll in the \\program files\appsense\ directory path. It seems that in addition to the McAfee virus scan, host intrusion, unwanted programs, group policy manager, etc., there is another application installed on the machine that governs what programs can and cannot run. I don't know much about it other than when the program was temporarily suspended, the setup.exe and oui.exe install kicked off fine without the "oui.exe stopped working" error message. It proceeded happily to the Oracle Client installation dialog. All along our IT desktop support was trying to help me with the install and they repeatedly disabled the McAfee programs to no avail, but not the other utilities. It was almost like even they were unaware of this other application running in the background since they never suggested disabling it.
Either way, I'm happy to say that I am now able to successfully launch the Oracle Client installer without issue. I've also learned a little about getting the Oracle 11g Instant client to work with Toad while I worked through the issue with the installer. I could almost get by completely with just using the Instant Client if I didn't have to use SQL*Loader (sqlldr.exe) and tnsping.exe. Any suggestions for getting these two functions to work with the Instant Client would be appreciated. I tried copying the binaries and the message files into the appropriate instant client directories, but windows kept complaining about missing .dll's when I tried executing the commands.
If there is no workaround for getting these functions to work with the Instant Client, and I have to do an Oracle Client install, at least now I can. Do you know if I would need to do the full "Administrator" install to get these functions, or can I do just the "Run Time" install to get sqlldr and tnsping?
    Thanks again for your help

  • Installing 8.1.5 on Redhat 6.1

    Hello all-
I am having trouble installing Oracle 8.1.5 on Redhat 6.1, The runins.sh script returns "class not found: oracle.sysman.oii.oiic.OiicInstaller"
I have tried various loads of Redhat ( server, workstation, custom) and re-downloaded the jre from blackdown, checked my environment (using the one Oracle recommends in their User Friendly Install for RedHat 6.1) and am about to take up drinking. Any and all help appreciated!! Thanks in advance.
PS- It's a long story, but I have to stay with Redhat 6.1 and Oracle 8.1.5. Other releases of either are not feasable at this time.

I am struggling with almost the exact
    same setup, RH6.2 & 8.1.5.0 patched
to 8.1.5.0.2. (Have been unable to
    successfully start an instance).
    What I found:
    Make sure you're using jre1.1.6_v5
and it is linked to /usr/local/jre.
    Also the /mnt/cdrom/runInstaller
never worked for me, but this did:
    $cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    $sh runInst.sh
    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

  • Problem with RMAN on Oracle8.1.7 on Redhat Linux 6.2

Hi, does anyone who is using Oracle with the configuration listed below having problems running RMAN?
    - Redhat 6.2 with kernel upgraded to 2.2.16-3
    - Oracle 8.1.7 EE for Linux
I don't seem to be able to start RMAN even though I have enable LARGE_POOL_SIZE in the parameter file.
Whenever I type rman at the prompt, it just hangs!
If I issue rman catalog rman/rmancatdb, it will return with an error saying can't connect to catalog.
I got these messages when creating the recovery catalog for the 1st time.
I suspect its the rman executable that is playing pranks with me. I even issue "relink all" and still can't run rman.
If anyone know a solution to this please reply. Thanks.

    Hi there,
Its funny...I found a solution to my problem from oracle metalink.
if anyone face the same problem you can see the solution here.
The solution is....check your PATH in .bash_profile
Make sure the $ORACLE_HOME/bin is specified before the $PATH so that it can call the right Oracle rman executable. This is becoz Linux has a command by the same name rman.
The Oracle metalink explanation is below.
On typing rman at the command prompt, the process goes for a hang. The rman utility
is not invoked nor there is any error message displayed at the prompt.
If the user types rman -h , then the following error message appears on the
    screen:
    rman
    [-f <ASCII|roff|TkMan|Tk|Sections|HTML|SGML|MIME|LaTeX|LaTeX2e|RTF|pod>]
[-S(ource of man page passed in)] [-F(ormatted man page passed in)]
    [-r <man reference printf string>] [-l <title printf string>]
    [-V(olume) <colon-separated list>] [-U(RLs as hyperlinks)]
    [-b (show subsections)] [-k(eep head/foot)]
    [-n(ame of man page) <string>] [-s(ection) <string>]
    [-p(aragraph mode toggle)] [-t(abstops spacing) <number>]
[-N(ormalize spacing, changebars)] [-y (zap hyphens toggle)]
[-K (declare that page has no breaks)]
[-d(iff) <file> (old version of page source to incorporate)]
[-M(essage) <text> (included verbatim at end of Name section)]
[-R(ebus words for TkMan)] [-C (enable Tcl/Tk formatting)]
[-o (no op)] [-O <arg> (no op with arg)]
    [-q(uiet--don't report warnings)] [-h(elp)] [-v(ersion)]
    [<filename>]
    Solution Description
Find out which rman utility is invoked by typing ,
'which rman' at the command prompt.
Ensure that the correct utility is invoked from $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.
    Explanation
In linux, there is a OS utility called rman. This utility is used for formatting
purposes. This resides in the /usr/bin directory.
If the ORACLE_HOME is not set properly or the PATH variable contains ORACLE_HOME/bin
at the end instead of beginning, then the rman utility provided by oracle is
not invoked. Also, no error message is thrown out, since there is another utility
    by the same name.
When the environment variables are properly set, then the correct utility is
    invoked from the $ORACLE_HOME/bin
Good Luck to whoever needs this solution.

Looks like you guys are talking about installation of PROD environment. Did anyone tried Apps 11i10 with VIS ?
I am running into problem here. In step 4 of 5, the system hangs at "Completed unzip 1229 of 1236". On investigaqtion, I found that the unzipping of file "_pages40.zip" is causing problem. When I tried to manually unzip it, I found that many of the files within this zip is still password protected and hence the file is unable to unzip and system just hangs there.
Does any of you know the passwords here. Any help in this regard will be really appreciated.
And hey, the jsdk 1.4 is now coming along with the Apps installation files and you do not have to install it seperately for 11i10 ver. The apps intallation do that itself.
