    Hello,
I have a MSI K7T266 Pro2(MS-6380). I recently upgraded my CPU from 1500+ to 2100+ and have bought an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro.
I have reset all default BIOS values except for:
    - Video card set to AGP,
    - disable internal sound card and game port,
    - disable parallel port,
    - disable Spread spectrum.
I have removed all other PCI cards. I was able to play to my 3D games: Mafia, Rise of Nations and Quake 3.
But the FSB was at 100 (old value from my 1500+) and if i set FSB to 133, the pc works fine except in games: after few seconds with high resolution (1280*1024 for example), the game freezes and i have to reboot.
The temperature of the CPU is ok: 55°C at full use with the case openned (usually it's near 62°C with the case closed).
I noticed that at FSB 133, the AGP is working at 68Mhz and 66Mhz with a FSB of 100.
I'm using windows XP with all updates, i have the last bios version and all the drivers up to date. I have installed the PCI latency patch and i have tested my RAM with memtest without any error. I have changed my PSU to an Enermax 460W. But the problem is still there: with a FSB of 133, i can not play games.
Do you have any idea ?
    Bye,

my  advice  buy  a  copper cylinder fan     adjustable  version  good to 3ghz  cpu
will take  temp  down to  30 degrees
this temp is far too  hot  man
     ?(   your processor  will fry
also  most of the better heatsinks
come  with  a  little  plastic  pouck  of  heatsink "gunk"
this type  of  silicone  greese  is  also  very  differeant  from the normal  trasistor  stuff  from  hobby  shops  and  catalogues
and has  far better thermal  properties  than the  types avalibel
so  using it  and  stashing the left  stuff is a good idea
    when buying a new  fan
be  sure it  fits in  the  space  first
incase  the psu is on top of the cpu space
    etc
also  buying  a  psu  with two  fans  in it  will  give much  better flow
    better  30 - 40  that  55 -  wow 62 degrees
    {very hot!!!!}
i think  you  also  need a  case fan   to  pull air  out the case  or into it via  another case fan
some people  use  a  cooler  unit  mounted to the case  to   cool it in hot  country
or  a snale  fan   and  a tube  froma   tumble  dryer  to mount the fan outside
under the house  etc ... or  the input the the  snale near to air  condition unit
i think your   agp  clocks  are out  of  sync
you  may  need to boot block  flash the bios  and   then set  the  fsb  to 133   or  166  for  barton/thouroubred  processors
if the palimino  runs  that  hot  its  out  of  normal  range
and you  need to amend  the heat

  • K7N420 and ATI 9500 Pro work???

I am thinking of purchasing a 9500 pro 128mb video card and would like to get opinions...
I am nervous about buying a $200 card and not having it work.
Anyone know if they would play nice together?
    Problems with this combo?

If no one posts with any experience, I can say I have had the AIW8500 I think that was the model w/64mb.
My  Asus GF3 Ti200 64mb blew it out of the water in my opinion.
It was ok and it worked without a hitch. I have seen users with the new 9700 and it works nicely.
The three systems I saw firsthand, in person were all running XPhomey.
If you can wait and see what develops you might be glad you did. :D

  • Kt4V L and Radeon 9500 pro= no overclock

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been able to overclock successfully with a KT4V L (VIA KT 400 chipset )and a Radeon 9500 pro. The system will overclock with my old Ge force 2 no problem. But moving the fsb even 1 or 2 Mhz over 166 with the Radeon installed and CRASH !! I've tried everything ,increased voltage on proc. vid card and ram, loosend ram timings , heat isn't an issue temps are ok. Pwr supply should be ok as I'm getting or slightly exceeding voltages across all rails.
Have  tried with one stick of ram (pc 3200) and with both sticks in( one 3200 and one 2700) All my drivers are the newest including chipset and vidcard. The Radeon does have the modded bios installed to enable overclocking and it overclocks like a champ !  I know the ATI cards have issues with the VIA KT 400 chipset but the system runs rock solid at 166 fsb. Anyway if anyone has had any luck please let me know or if anyone has any ideas on overclocking this thing. Thanks !
Specs: MSI KT4V L mobo, AMD Barton 2500 XP Superlocked processor (I tried unlocking ,no luck) one stick 512mb pc 3200 and one stick 512 mb 2700, Sapphire Radeon 9500 pro with unlocked bios, Enermax 350W psu, one WD 80gb 7200 hdd,one Maxtor 30gb 5400 hdd, cd burner,cd rom Antec Plusview 1000 AMG ,Thermaltake Volcano 9 heatsink and fan. AND 11,650 3dMark 2001se score.
    Wanna get it over 13000.

The 9500pro is a great card. It does have the 9700pro bios in it. That was the first thing I did to it when I got it last year Got the core at 310Mhz but the memory maxes out around 281Mhz.
The amperages across the rails are as follows 3.3V is 32A, 5V is 32A and the 12 V is 26A. The -5V and -12V are both 1A and the =5Vsb is 2.2A .
I have already tried overclocking with one ram stick . Using both the 3200 and the 2700 seperately.
I've also set the vid card to stock settings and still no OC.

  • G4 Sawtooth and ATI 9800 Pro

I just acquired an ATI Radeon Pro Mac Edition video card. I have an Apple 15" flat screen monitor. The monitor cable connector won't fit the video card connector. Is there an adapter or is it that this is the wrong card? The Apple monitor connector snaps on and is a bit wider and the video card usines screws to attach and is just a bit shorter.

    Hi-
The monitor has an ADC connector? Confirm here.
The 9800 has DVI and VGA, and will require a DVI to ADC adapter to connect the 15" display.

  • These ATI cards 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro ok for MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and winchester cpu? Compatible?

Looking at grabbing a used ATI 9500 Pro or used 9700 Pro AGP card for my MSI Neo2 Plat since I can't use my Matrox G400.
Any problems using either of the above cards? I don't play a huge amount of 3D games so I'm not going to grab a 9800 Pro or XT or 6600GT. A 9500 or 9700 Pro would allow me to play the newer games at reasonable resolutions. Just want to make sure they are compatible.
    thanx

Ok guys, thanx for the feedback. I missed the 9500 Pro sale, so maybe its for the better. If I'm going to try a bit of 3D gaming, I may aswell get a little bit better card. So here is my question for you folks:
For my MSI K8N Neo2 and AMD64 3000+ system, I want a card that will have good 2D output and good DVD playback. I want to try some 3D games, but don't want to have the minimum. I was looking at used 9500 Pro's and the 9600 XT but I've come across a used 9700 Pro and a 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro with r360 core (almost a 9800XT). So if I get a 9700 Pro, what will I be able to play smoothly at what settings and what will I be unable to play. Ultimately, I may play mostly on my projector at 858 x 484, so maybe the cards don't matter too much. If I don't play 3D games much after a while, I'll probably downgrade, but I want to give it a try. I can't afford a new 9800 Pro/XT or 6600GT.
Used cards I'm deciding between. Have to act fast.
9700 Pro $170 CAD or 9800Pro $210 CAD or 9800 with r360 core $230. Price differences between the cards is as you see there.
thanx in advance for any feedback,

  • 9500 Pro compatibility with K7N2G-ILSR?

Anyone have this combo and if so, does the card work ok for you or are they not compatible? Mine does not seem to be working. My PC boots up with no picture while my ATI 9500 Pro is in the AGP slot. Anyon ehave any experiences or suggestions on this matter? Cheers! ?(

i am running original bios and latest catalyst, not one glitch so far. don't know how much you can see but if you can, have you:
    - clicked 'update drivers' to do it via windows instead of the installer - ATI installers are notoriously bad under XP, it has never worked once for me - use the catalyst control panel to check whether the catalyst drivers have been picked up properly
    - disabled the onboard graphics after installing the radeon?
    - used the extra power connector - many people recommend using a splitter to split a line off fropm the hdd, i don't know, seems this should be bad but it has resolved problems for people. i think sapphire advise it, but i didn't see it in their instructions (i have a sapphire) even though they included the splitter.
    - try changing init frist from PCI to AGP. should not make a difference but you never know.
finally you have the possibility of doing a clean install, or cleaning the registry etc.
if you can test your radeon in another pc, and test another card in the AGP - this will save you wasting a lot of time if it is just a case of hardware failure.
a also read running at AGP 4X can sort a lot of radeon problems with only a tiny decrease in performance (seeing as most of the work is done on the card itself instead of needing to go to main mem / cpu over the agp bus).
hope you get it working dude.

  • Going to take a Plunge And Get 9700 Pro

As much as it hurts my wallet. I want to get it.  Why bother upgrading your system if not going to get one of the best Video cards to go with it.
Read a few problems with these. But looks like things are fine now.
OH the inhumanity of it all.  ;(

Yes. There is some sort of a bios issue when using and ATI 9700 Pro AGP Card with the K7N2 (MSI 6570) Motherboard. It is fine if you use bios ver 3.3. If you upgrade your bios to 3.4 that is when you will have problems. The reason that I say this is that i built 2 Computer systems exactly the same. Except the only diffrence was the bios ver. When the system would POST some times i could get the video to work. When i would reboot the computer or turn it on then some times no video would come up. (this was before downgrading to 3.3) I thought it was memory so i had tryied swaping out DDR chips and that didn't work. Both systems are using AMD XP 2600+ cpu's. 512 MB DDR 333mhz 2.5 cas (generic). and of course ATI 9700 PRO 128 MB AGP card. When MSI updated the bios from 3.3 to 3.4 they messed somthing up in the process.  MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR BIOS. After updating the bios i have not had any video issues since.
    Enjoy
    Nick

The problems may lie with your card or the E7205.  I have not seen any issues with the Radeon and the E7205 before though so maybe just the specific card that you have???
MSI is the best board option - no question!!
If you haven't heard about the problems with E7205 and Radeon 9500/9700 go to this page: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/index.php?threadid=15673&boardid=10&styleid=1&sid=c2048d78c60db623b046a7f81fbb3830
That's only one link and I'm sure that you can find a lot of issues about this in other sites too. The 845, 875, 865 boards don't have the this compatibilityproblem.

  • How to Setup LCD Monitor and ATI Rage LT Pro ? Thanks

The system is ok, color-mapping is right ,I can see the right color (256 colors) ,but something wrong with the right block of Login Screen that was redundant on the center of normal screen. 1152x900 resolution ,which is the default resolution in Solaris. My LCD limitation is 1024x768,I don't know that might be a problem or not, could it be a problem?

  • ATI 9800 Pro Mac SE - Screen Artifacts and Anomalies

    Hello All,
I was lucky enough to be given a new video card this Christmas (ATI 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition). Unfortunatly I am having some serious issues.
When I frst installed the card in my G5 all seemed well, both my displays appeared to be working properly and I did not notice any problems. The next day I decided to update the ROM on the card to the latest offered by ATI; after doing this I began to notice some horrible screen artifacts and tearing.
    Examples:
    http://static.flickr.com/39/77612780675feadba0o.jpg
    http://static.flickr.com/42/7761277964b07c6811o.jpg
As you can tell from the screenshots above this is not normal.
Here are some details of my Powermac:
    Dual 2.0G5 w/ 3.5 GB of RAM
    Running 10.4.3
    Displays:
23" Apple (plastic) Cinema Display connected via ADC
    17" Sony connected via DVI
    And the ATI card:
    Chipset Model: ATY,R350
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4e48
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-A14402-126
I have attempted to downgrade the firmware on the card to the previous ROM offered by ATI; no luck.
I have taken the normal troubleshooting procedures:
    - Repair permissions
    - Clean caches
    - Repair Disk
    - Reseat video card
    - Install a fresh copy of Tiger on a seperate drive
    - Install different versions of ATI's software (currently using the most up to date)
    - Remove ATI's software
    - Boot into safemode
    - Run one display at a time (first ADC then DVI)
It seems ATI support is out till 12/30; does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks for all your help....
    -Chris

I purchased this card on ebay as a new, unused Apple factory unit, which doesn't require the molex power drop from the superdrive. I've got a 20" aluminum cinema display and a 17" clear CRT studio display connected. My main problem is that I get random app freezing (mostly Safari, sometimes Preview, and occasionally Mail). I can browse with Firefox all day and not have a problem. Console shows nothing unusual, either.
Symptoms: cursor present and movable, but unable to click on anything, Dock icons don't display their names upon rollover, perpetual beachball in frontmost app, high-pitched screech coming from machine somewhere (unless 'Napping' is turned off in CHUD processor pref pane, then normal).
Until this evening, I was under the impression that these were freezes that required a hard restart - I had waited several hours for the symptoms to clear to no avail. Tonight I decided to try something: I pressed the power button on the 20" display, and then pressed the 'S' key to sleep the system (even though I got no feedback on screen). I waited a few seconds and then left the room for a minute or two, and when I came back, the machine was sleeping. I woke it up and found horrible corruption, which corrected itself after another sleep cycle.
I was actually preparing for an archive & install to see if maybe different drivers would be installed that alleviate the issue, but wasn't too hopeful.
    Bizarre...
Now I'm not sure what to do. I haven't been able to use Safari for several weeks due to this. I had thought that since it only seems to happen with Apple apps, that maybe it was a core OS thing that 3rd party apps weren't affected by.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 and ATI Radeon 3870 running Snow Leopard

    Hi.
Anybody who can give me a straight answer here.
    I have a Mac Pro3.1 8 Core 2.8Ghz with Radeon 3870 card. (Standard 2600 HD)
Right now it runs 10.5.8 with no problems but i want to update to 10.6.3 Snow.
But someone told me the 3870 card isn't working with Snow Leopard.
    Is that right ?

Someone? not working? I think they mean that some features won't be supported, like perhaps OpenCL.
Use GT120 cheap and works or shell out for ATI 4870 (or wait and see if anything comes out this year).
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC002ZM/A
Most of what is written seems like it wasn't a tech writer, but then Apple doesn't get into telling customers what UEFI/EFI64 is the over-riding requirement.
Take Apple hardware specs with grain of salt.
The 4870 works in ALL Mac Pro models (and look at the threads, or the comments on the product page why not). No mystery there either.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB999ZM/A
Even the GTX 285 works, if interested.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW387ZM/A
And one person has both ATI 4870 + GTX 285, using a couple break out power cables and adapters.

(via Aux power Y adapters) And yes, he knows that apple lists 300W Max for the PCIe cards in the manual.
I've got the dual high-power graphics cards running without a hitch. It's rendering with the GTX 285 and CUDA now while I use the computer with the Radeon 4870 (no GUI lag, which is a nice change from using the GTX 285) http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/

  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT  and early Mac Pro

I have been following the debate regarding the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and old Mac Pro with interest, however my problem is not quite the same. As all the correspondents are located in the USA. I would guess they are referring to Apple part no MB198Z/A. But ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT is sold in the UK by Apple as part no MB198, and I cannot be sure that it has an identical spec. Does one Know the Answer? Please respond if you know
    Thank You
For info Below is the response given by ATI
(The specifications are the same. The HD 2000 series cards runs on PCIE 1.1. You will need to confirm this with www.apple.com since the cards are specifically flashed by Apple. These cards may contain different video bios versions.)

    M.O.K.,
Based on the ATI information regarding PCIE 1.1, the card is the same and should work. I would call Apple when ordering to confirm.
I have the 2600 XT in my 2.66Ghz Mac Pro and it works very well. Much better than the OEM card.

  • K8T Neo and AGP ATI 9700 Pro...Video Problems!

This computer has been out of service for almost 6 months as I have replaced it with a new one. I grabed it today and loaded XP Pro on it without any problems. I have 2 monitors attached to the ATI 9700 Pro both running at 1600x1200. After configuring the new OS with updates and drivers I rebooted. This is where the problem surfaced.
    PROBLEM:
I get to the XP PRO Loading screen with the progress bar. After a few seconds, 2 revolutions from the progress bar, the screens go black and a few seconds after that the monitors go into standby due to the lack of a video signal.
    MORE INFO:
Several times when I tried to reboot, the PC would not display video at all and beep (the video error), 7 times (I think). Now this problem is not happening. Although I did get random characters all over the screen once.
I can boot into Safe Mode without any problems.

This computer has always had problems, 99% of which were playing video games. The problems I experienced in video games were that the computer would lock-up or automatically reboot after random time intervals when playing games. The games I noticed it having the most problems with were Everquest II and World of Warcraft. I replaced this machine with a Dell and have had no problems with either application. Therefore I can rule out faulty software. At the time before replacing this machine I tested everything, Memory, Hard Drives, etc...
