9.3.1 esscmd esslang error

Hello,
We have been running a report script on a PC. It worked great until a new user was given the PC. Then we started getting the following output in the esscmd file:

ESSLANG environment variable not set
Failed getting locale. Please set proper ESSLANG environment.
The ESSLANG is set correctly to English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary, and all other essbase related environment variables appear correct.
So first I thought, the previous user had local admin, and the new user does not, so maybe she needs local admin. But that did not resolve the problem.
We have traced the problem to the esscmd, which gives us the error when run at the command line. So I re-installed the Administration Services. We still get the error.
Can anyone advise us on why esscmd cannot read the esslang variable?

Check you environmental variables related to hyperion
Go to control panel->system->system properties->advance->environmental variables. or right clik on my computer >advanced>->environmental variables
You should have something like this C:\Hyperion............... in your classpath variable.
Also do check your Essbase installation logs

Essmsh and esscmd error in 11.1.2.2

After epm11.1.2.2 installation and configuration done, my eas, shared service and workspace are working fine. I am able to retrive my essbase outline from excel addin as well. However, I get error when I am trying run essmsh in command prompt to invoke my MaxL script.

When I run esscmd in command prompt, it get me this error: Failed getting locale. Please set proper ESSLANG environment.

However, when I run startEsscmd.bat in D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\bin, it is able to connect to essbase.
I have checked setEssbaseEnv.bat in D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\bin as well but I didn't see ARBORPATH and ESSBASEPATH in system variables as per listed below in setEssbaseEnv.bat

I am not sure whether startMaxL.bat still can be used in this situation.^^^Why would you think that essmsh.exe versus startmaxl.cmd would behave substantially (or even at all) differently? It isn't supposed to. StartMaxL.cmd has a bunch of pathing information -- that's what it's there for so you don't have to modify the path as per many of the above comments. Someone (so, like everyone) more infrastructurally (I just invented that word) proficient than I can likely explain why it has to be so. What I do know is that I use startmaxl.cmd in place of essmsh.exe and it seems to work. I've done this running MaxL code out of ODI 11.1.1.5 and it works like a champ, just like essmsh.exe did in ODI 10.1.3.6.
Do you know that you cannot use startmaxl.cmd from within a VB Script, uh, script?

ESSCMD error

I am trying to run Esscmd script from with a perl-cgi script as follows

Both give the following error:

Esscmd command runs fine from windows command promt. Env. ARBORPATH is set to "E:\Hyperion\Essbase" and PATH is set to "E:\HYperion\essbase\bin".
Esscmd.exe is present in "E:\Hyperion\Essbase\bin" and "E:\Hyperion\AnalyticAdministrationServices\server\bin".
I understand that perl-cgi script is unable to locate esscmd because it looks in it's default cgi-bin folder somewhere in C:\Program files\Apache Group\Apache\cgi-bin.
Will the problem be solved if I set ARBORPATH to "E:\HYperion\essbase\bin" along with "E:\Hyperion\Essbase". Will this have any other implications?
IS there any other way I can get rid of this issue.
Any pointers will be appreciated.

I have checked it and there are no restrictions involved with the item nor with the BP.
I can't exactly determine the cause of this error.

Embarrassing ESSCMD question (re: error logs)

Hi all you kind folks,This is one that is probably incredibly obvious, but I just can't find the answer. I use various ESSCMD scripts to load oodles of data into Essbase cubes. The data files are very large. My scripts are set up basically like this (simplified):OUTPUT 1 "dataload.log";IMPORT 3 "datafile1" 4 "Y" 3 "loadrules.rul" "N" "dataload.log";IMPORT 3 "datafile2" 4 "Y" 3 "loadrules.rul" "N" "dataload.log";...and so on. The problem is that after each data file loads to the cube, the error messages in 'dataload.log' are overwritten by the next data file's errors.When the script is finished, only the errors for the last data file are in theerror log. I need to be able to capture all the errors, for all the data files.My question: is there an Essbase setting somewhere that would let mespecify that the errors for successive data file loads be appended to theerror log, instead of overwriting it each time? Or do I just have to send theerrors for each individual data file to a separate log file? Thanks very much! gregp.s. ESSCMD in Perl Script - Error handling

Does anyone use Perl scripts to run Esscmd commands? I'm trying to incorporate error handling and I can't seem to get Perl to recognize and error that happened when the Esscmd statement runs. A sample would be much appreciated. The fact that I'm not too familiar with Perl doesn't help! Thanks much.

Essbase Applications Not Starting..........Error 1054001

Hi Experts,
Issue: Essbase 9.3.1 Applications are not starting.
Error: 1054001 Cannot load application "Inventory" with error number [4294967295] - see server log file.
Server: Windows 2003.
Till last friday all the applications were working fine. We have shutdown the Hyperion server on that day and rebooted it on Monday. Since then we are unable to start any of the applications.
We have refered few links for help but with no success,

Solution would be easy ...like if the Essbase Agent is stopped using the services.msc (services panal)on Windows while a process is currently running, or if there has been an abnormal termination of the Essbase Agent, orphaned ESSSVR processes can be left. Shuting down the Essbase server using ESSCMD or MaxL then Check Task Manager confirm the ESSBASE.exe process later by this ESSSVR.exe processes should end if still NO then Do an "End Process" on any ESSSVR.exe process that is still running. Start the Essbase service and start the application.
ESSSVR.exe is process which keep application Alive (bad thing is if u have many applications running similarlly u have same numbe of ESSSVr .exe will be running in task master ..but u cant find out which one belongs to which application :( )
Reasons
looking at your error i can say , First of all you need to know what is Lock in EAS ? and what locks exist
(right-click on Essbase Servername, EDIT->LOCK and EDIT->LOCKED OBJECTS, and if your database/outline appears in there, unlock it.)
Check any antivirus- and backup software that may be scanning / running on your Essbase folders as that can lock the files and any ESSSVR process stays when the Essbase Agent is stopped
More over another chance of getting error is when you have you page and index files in different location and rest otl, rep.csc script in another drive .. usually while taking back up in OTL,csc drive u do get created index file and page file even u have page and index file in diffrent drive so doe to this u get this error unable to load database

\\Error Reading Rules File when dimbuild with DLR

I am using Essbase 11.1.2.1.
I create a DLR via the web console EAS (11.1.2.1 too) : a very simple one : dimbuild DLR, ";" as separator, 2 fields (parent and child)
when i try do do a "Update Ouline..." with a very simple file (1 line : accounts;test) I have this error message "\\Error Reading Rules File"
I don't know if it can help but if I create the same DLR on another 7.1 essbase serveur through this same wec eas console (11.1.2.1), I have no problem...
another information, too : my 11.1.2.1 server has a //ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary ESSLANG. My 7.1 server has a //ESS_LOCALE French_France.ISO-8859-15@Default ESSLANG. I really don't know if there is a link, or absolutely not.

unable to load essmsh.exe : the error message seems to indicate that it is a problem with a path in the environment variables.
So if you say that the "Error Reading Rules File" is typically a path issue, all is probably linked!
The admin will probably correct that tomorrow : I let you know if it solves the problem!

Data Load Error

Everytime i try to run data load i get the following error,
Object [7905367] is locked by user [user3k]
Unable to load database, locales [English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary] and [English_UnitedStates.US-ASCII@Binary] are not compatible

The rule file is validating successfully.

Not sure where the difference in ESSLANG is occuring. Is the ESSLANG variable on the EAS server different to the Essbase server?

Error happened when taking form offline

Hi,
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
In SmartView, I want to use the function - take forms offline.
The connecting user is provided with "Offline User" in HSS and the "Enable Offline Usage" property is checked on the form.
However, when forms and data are retrieved from the server, an error message shows:

an entry ESSLANG=raditionalChinese_Taiwan.MS950@Binary to those files.
But it's still not working, showing the same error message.

Loading Errors-Essbase

Hi all,
Please help me with this..
I got the following errors while load is running in essbase, I have seen this in log files..
All other cubes loaded successfully, except 1 cube.
ERROR 1054004 - Application is not loaded
ERROR - 1002097 - Unable to load database
The Oracle website shows
Possible solution for 1st error is Make sure that you created the filters correctly.
2nd error is not mentioned there.
Please help me solving this issue.

Hi,
First of all can you start this database from say EAS, does it say it cannot start?
It might be a hung esssvr.exe process, stop all the databases and if you still see an esssvr.exe process running you may need to end that process unless you can stop it with maxl or esscmd.
If you are unsure how to do it then it might be easier to give the box a reboot.

Error Message after data load (error is "1130610")

We load data using a data load rule. The data seems to load fine except we get the error message "ERROR - 1241101 - Unexpected Essbase error 1130610" on last line below? Any thoughts? Is there a guide somewhere that explains in details all the various error codes and what they refer to? We're using Essbase 6.5.1. The explanation of error 1130610 is the following:Possible Problems - Essbase cannot open a file. Possible Solutions - If you are using an error file, make sure that the error file is being created in a directory that already exists. Make sure you are using the ESSCMD IMPORT command correctly. Put all files the ESSCMD script needs in the $ARBORPATH\APP\applicationName\databaseName directory. Run the ESSCMD script from the $ARBORPATH\APP\applicationName\databaseName directory. Check the ESSCMD script for invalid paths. Make sure every folder that the script is pointing to exists. If you are using an error file, make sure that the error file is being created in a directory that already exists.

Error while creating database in classic appln

I am getting this error while creating database in classic application.
com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: Failed to create database, error code [%s] (1013221).
Can anyone please let me know why I am getting it?

Can you check for a more specific error code in the Application log? There can be various reasons for this:
1. For data storage and binary installation, Essbase supports the use of any disk array device mounted with a local file system interface (for example, NTFS, HPFS, JFS, VxFS, and UFS). A disk array mounted using NFS or CIFS is not supported.Use any disk array device mounted with a local file system interface (for example, NTFS, HPFS, JFS, VxFS, and UFS).
2. Error occurs when deploy Planning application with double byte enabled. When the plan name is changed to English, deploy will be successful. This issue can be fixed by setting Correct Essbase ESSLANG system value.
3. The Essbase User that creates the application and DB folders has default ACL rw-rw-rw which does not allow the essbase app to create files inside the folder.

Locale Error while migrating from One Server to another Server in Essbase

Hi Gurus,
Actually we are trying to migrate the Essbase Native users/groups from Windows 2003 Server to 2008.In windows 2003 the Version is 11.1.1 and in 2008 its 11.1.2.While Migrating i faced he below error.I was using the Migration Wizard to migrate.
Start of Application Migration.

Error: Source and target servers should be of same locale for migration. [Source Locale: English_UnitedStates.MS1252@Binary, Target Locale: English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary]

I even tried to change the target local to source local name in Environment Variables -->ESSLANG=English_UnitedStates.MS1252@Binary but of no use.
Can anyone please suggest me how to rectify this error.

Hi,
Review the section beginning at page 663 on unicode applications from the Essbase Database Admin Guide. On windows this is the ESSLANG environment variable on unix there is a file that you must modify.

I do suggest you read the whole section I referenced above. You would not be changing the source server. It is whatever format it is. You need to change in windows 2008.
