9300i or E61

I have a HP ipod 3715 pocket pc and a nokia 7610. I use them a lot for sms and e mails via wifi but a bit frustrated because of the lack of keyboard. Shall I opt for the 9300i or wait for the E61? It seeems that there is a lot of problem in getting connected to the internet via wifi with the 9300i. Comments will be very much appreciated.

Hmm, I have the 9300i and think that the wifi kind of sucks. You have to set up a wifi profile for each location you will use and give each connection a priority (e.g. 1 wifi home, 2 wifi office, 3 gprs, etc.). Whenever you need a data connection the phone will then laboriously cycle through those options in that order. I.e. say you are out and about away from wifi, it will say "connecting to wifi home", then "connecting to wifi office" then only will it try to connect to gprs. The point is that it's fairly slow and frustrating if you connected 10 minutes ago to your priority 3 connection and want to do so again... Also the setup is unfriendly (hint to nokia -- calling it WLAN marks you out) and it seems to need to be configured even for wide-open wifi hotspots. (There are settings called Easy WLAN but I can't see what, if anything, they do.) The 9300i is a series 80 phone running an old version of symbian. I have no idea what the E61 is like, but it runs series 60 which has a lot more software available and is based on a much more current version of symbian (despite the lower series number). The 9300i has a brilliant form factor, but slow processor and flawed software. Shame there isn't a phone with E61 software in a 9300i box.

  • PC Sync 6.7 and E61 not syncing mail

    Hi,
When I setup my e61 with nokia pc sync v 6.7, the email option is disabled within the list of things I want to sync.
Is there a reason for this ? I assume that I should be able to sync email from my outlook on my desktop to the nokia e61 using bluetooth ?
    Olly

the only phones that support this are the 9300, 9300i and 9500. It is clearly mentioned on the info pages of those phones, as well as the info pages for pc suite.
maybe you could have read that prior to getting one of these rather useful phones.
also, if you find info about them syncing emails, that will be OTA sync. most people who get one of these have blackberry or exchange. you can sync emails ota with this, so you dont need to sync with a cable etc...

  • Did Nokia pull E61 and E60 firmware 2.0.x as they ...

    Hello Guys,
I just bought new E61 a while ago, and I went ahead to update it's firmware.
Then the NSU says no new software for your phone, while currently it has version 1.0.x not 2.0.x
    So anyone could confirm this?
Maybe they pulled the E61 as they did for E70, I even couldn't update my father E60 device.

  • USB Mass Storage Q and 9300i

    Hi,
I am planning on purchasomg either a e61 or 9300i. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the 9300i could connect to my computer without the need to install the pc suite program. I am using an Apple Mac g4. Thanks

9300i does not have mass storage, but you can get it to work over bluetooth with isync (just check apple isync pages). e61 has in addition the mass storage class.

  • Unable to Play E61 Video

    Hi,
My E61 cant play video with resolution 640×480 which is recorded with Nokia 6280. Also it cant play the streaming video from internet, like BBC and liputan6 (indonesian tv)
    Anybody can help?
    Thank you in advance

I upgraded to the latest firmware available (3.0633.09.04) and the same thing still exist.
It's a shame that this high end business phone can't play the file recorded by such a low end S40 phone like 6280. You can try those website (www.bbc.com & www.liputan6.com) to play the streaming video (just to make u sure about this fact)
It seems the wifi ability was almost useless to me as I cant enjoy the news on my phone, actually this is one of the big reason for me to buy this e61.
Again, I hope nokia will have a positive response to solve this problem, as I believe it's not a big deal for nokia to make it happen.
    Thanks

  • 9300i Alarm doesn't stop

Am I the only person not to carry this phone around with me at all times, day or night? That's the only explanation I can think of for not seeing this problem on the forum.
If a calendar alarm goes off when I'm not there - in bed asleep, in the lavatory, in a meeting, on a plane etc - it carries on for an entire minute, then even more helpfully repeats for another minute, 5 minutes later. There's no way I can find of stopping this behaviour, other than setting the alarm to Silent, which renders the calendar pretty pointless.
Colleagues next to my desk will have to learn to switch the alarm off themselves if it goes off when I'm in a meeting - usually to remind me of the meeting I've just gone to.
Other devices used by colleagues at work - like Palms and Blackberries - don't do this, so what is it about Symbian/EPOC users that makes us different?
Before the 9300i I had a Psion 5mx with exactly the same problem, and after years of looking found an application called Watchdog. This could be set to abort the alarm after 4 seconds, and listed all past aborted alarms. After a lot of searching I've not found anything similar for the 9300i.

    Hi
Actually I prefer it this way! Mine is always with me and I change the profile to silent if in a meeting etc.

  • Two programs open on E61?

    Hi,
this sounds like - well, it is a very trivial question: It is obviously possible on the E61 to open more than one application at the same time. But I don´t seem to be able to do it: I want to open an Excel file that shows on which days I am here. Parallel to that, I want to open the calendar and enter the cultural events that take place in my city on those days.
Of course, the whole thing would be much easier to accomplish on the PC in Outlook from where I could synchronize all into my mobile, but that´s not the point - how to I open the calendar while keeping open the Excel sheet?
When I open that one first and then press the left-bottom button to return at once to the standby screen, the Excel sheet is closed.
    Thank you very much!

  • How to sync Nokia 9300i & Address Book without loosing contacts data/labels

    Hi,
I have a Nokia comunicator 9300i and would like to backup the contacts in it (over 700) using a Mac. I can do that on the PC using Nokia's own backup suite.
Yes, Nokia Comunicator 9300i is on the supported devices list and yes it does sync nicely and it does transfer data. It is only that the diferent labels asigned by me in the telephone are just wiped away and replaced with either "business" or "private" depending of what iSync or Address Book "thinks" is apropriate. And in my case these are not apropriate labels.
For example many contacts bear the name of the company under which there are listed contact persons and their mobile phone numbers (each with a label, ex: John, Mary etc) their faxes and emails and so on. All these names are replaced at random by Address Book by "private" or "business" or just simply wiped completely away. The problem is that it does the same on the telephone, in other words, it wipes away the labels from the telephone also. The result is that following syncing, the telephone contact list would diplay under the contact " Company X" for example just a list of phone numbers listed as "private" or "business" or simply, without label whatsoever.
    Allow me to exemplify:
    Contact 1 (business X)
    * John: phone number 1
    *Mary: phone number 2
    Contact 2 (business Y)
    *Max: phone number 1
    *Vicky: phone number 2
    *Todd: phone number 3
After syncing, the Adress Book as well as the telephone contact database will look like this:
    Contact 1 (business X)
    *"private": phone number 1
    *"no label": phone number 2
    Contact 2 (business Y)
    *"no label": phone number 1
    *"business": phone number 2
    *"no label": phone number 3
The idea would be to preserve those "labels" that I assigned in the telephone.
I have tried few times already (when I had a smaler contact database) and it messed up the telephone in the sens that it wiped the labels away and I had to reassign them manually on the phone. Now that I have over 700 clients in the database I cannot afford to mess it up. Yes, I have been using a PC to backup this but I would rather move everything to the Mac, that is why this problem in the first place.
Therefore, does anybody know how I can adjust the settings of AddressBook or iSync so that the above mentioned situation would no longer occur?
Alternatively, if you know of a plug that would increase the manipulation possibilities of iSync or AddressBook or even a software that will help with this problem, would you please share that knowledge?
I know that these forums are not to promote other products than Apple's but in this case, unless there is possible to adjust the setings of the above mentioned Apple programs, any 3th party solution that would help do my work within Mac OS X environment is in my opinion welcome. The alternative is to just use Windows and I am trying hard to avoid that.
Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi
I have the same problem. I'm on a Nokia E51 and it synchronizes the individual contacts fine.
Starting point: None of my contacts where parted in groups.
2: I made a group in my adressbook called "FIR" wich is my studygroup.
3: I can still synchronize the contacts. But the group ("FIR") i've created does not show up on my phone!?
Do I have to make the "FIR" group on the phone myself? I figured it would be easier to make the group in AdressBoook and then Synch it.

  • Error message when trying to recover HD: PXE-E61 Media test failure

Hi all, new to forums, lots of good info and support here.
Got the BSOD last week.  Have been trying all of the various fixes mentioned on the board, to no avail. I went back multiple pages looking for alternatives to try.   After stepping away for a few days, I got farther today than I did when I was frustrated.  F12, chose to boot HDD, and got the following LOOPING error message:
PXE-E61 Media test failure check cable
    PXR-MDF exiting PXE rom
Which gives me hope that I may not have to replace my hard drive.
I have a satellite L455-5975, and have ordered recovery disc from acclaim ('0' option didn't work for me, which makes me wonder if Toshiba time limits that support, but that's off topic)
So it looks to me like my RealTek Ethernet Controller might be the problem?  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Anything I can do or should I wait for recovery disk to arrive? I worry that the recovery disk isn't going to do what I need.   Do I need to replace the ethernet controller, or is this a sign of a hard drive issue?  I consider myself 'fairly' tech savvy, but I've never taken a computer apart/put one together myself.  It would definitely cost less for me to replace HD myself than putting it in the shop.  So I'm willing to try that option if need be.
I appreciate any help/support!  Reading some of the previous posts make me wonder if rather than investing more money in the satellite, if I shouldn't instead be saving up to buy a new(er) model.

    Creedym...
I have a very similar problem with my mini-notebook model NB305.
I'm getting the same message and can't get past F2 or F12.
Bottom line; I ordered the recovery data from Toshiba on-line by model number ---not by type. They sent two DVDs. My unit doesn't have an optical drive.
First call to "John"---yes, you can copy the data to a thumb drive and use that.
Almost two hours of transferring --- the NB305 did not respond to the thumb drive.
Second call to "Paul". After some consultation on his part with someone else he told me that they don't make a thumbdrive (USB) recovery disk for my model, that's why I received two DVDs. ! I would have take it to a shop where they etc...
I haven't decided what to do next. Maybe purchase an external drive rather than take it to a repair shop where it will probably cost more than buying an inexpensive external drive.

  • Basic features missing in E61 (and other Nokias) v...

I've been using Nokia Smartphone since quite a number of years now, and I'm still estonished about all the excitement that any release of a new models is generating, because basically : nothing is changing. OK, better integrated cameras. OK, integrated Wifi... But come on, let's be honnest, it's time for a revolution. I'm getting really tired of Symbian S60's interface...
Anyhow, I had lately a Nokia E61, and finally sold it away. Why ?
    1) Mail application is not able to correctly format a HTML mail. And let's face it, we receive less and less "pure ascii text" messages. Time for an evolution. Some might say : go for Profimail on S60. OK, fine, but then how to I use BlackBerry Connect or Mail for Exchange ???
    2) Basic calendar : after so many years, the calendar application also did not evolve. For a phone that claims to be a business phone (E61), the notion of meeting is still ignored by Nokia. And yes, I want and need to know when looking at my agenda who invited me for a meeting and who are the other invitees, and this is not possible with Nokia. And still on the agenda topic, whether using Blakberry connect or Mail for Exchange, it is not possible to receive meeting invitations and accept/decline them, nor is it possible to create new meetings and invite people. For this I need to go back to my PC = E61 will never be *my* business phone.
Come on, wake up Nokia : time for innovation !!!

  • Sync-client of E61 does not react anymore

    Hello,
the connection to my E61 is fine: SMS, Contacts and all other data can be exchanged between my Windows XP via BT very well.
Only when I try to triger the sync the 7.0.9.2 PC-Suite  from the XP-side my phone seems not to realize, that the PC wants to sync.
To duplicate the syn profile on the E61and then syncing from the E61 to the PC works!
I remember that the first time I synced, a little application (the pc-suite-client?) has been installed on the phone.
I think when this step can be repeated I can solve the problem.
But how can I do this? The  pc-suite-client is not a normal symbian program, therefore I can not deinstall it.
    Regards,

  • I have a nokia E61 on an orange monthly contract caller ID is not working

Hello all, Yes my trusty old Nokia E61 no longer shows caller ID. When I call a number in my contacts I get the name of the person I am callingText messages have the sender ID attachedIf I put the sim in another phone I get caller IDIf I put the sim from another phone in the E61 I get caller ID SO, today I went and did a sim swapI waited till my current sim lost signal (about 2 hours)I inserted the new simWhen I got home I called my Nokia E61 from my wifes EE iphone and our land line, both gave caller IDI then read and deleted the sms that orange sent me to update the sim and restarted the phone Guess what, no caller ID I called Orange support, they told me everyone on orange has this problem (yeah right I believe that) I am going to do another sim swap tomorrow and I will put the new sim in another phone till I get the message then I will put the new sim in my nokia which should sort it out. Anyone got any amazing ideads about this or can anyone verify Oranges cheesy explanation for the fault??

Hello Karen, Thank you for checking it for me. I did a sim swap on Sunday and it worked fine. I turned off my phone overnight and when I turned it back on in the morning, no caller ID.This fault is obviously something to do with the SIM update texts received after a new SIM is inserted. I put out a question on twitter asking for other orange users to contact me who are suffering this (as I have been told 95% of estate affected) problem. No-one else has it! I have talked to customer services about transferring my contract to an EE sim (contract expires in December) but was told no, I have to pay £170 to get out of the contract. My issue is this; I work in the property business, I have several properties I own and manage. When I miss a call now I get no ID from the caller or call back number. This is costing me money and stress as I keep getting upset tenants having a go at me for 'ignoring' them. I have aslo missed important calls from my financier! I am in a contract witnh Orange where I pay a fee for a service. That service is not being provided to an adequate standard and I will need compensation from Orange for my loss if I cannot transfer to an EE account. I do not want another contract, I do not want a new handset, I just want my basic service so I can conduct my business in a proper manner. Can you send me a link to the orange service contract please. Regards M Butler

    Hi all,
My Nokia 9300i doesn't iSync anymore with 10.4.10 Mac OS. With the previous version, it worked fine and smoothly.

Reset any connection (Bluetooth) on both Mac and Phone
Symptom: begin to sync but fails when reaching the 100% contacts communication and when beginning with transferring information.
Any idea what changed with this PS version that may affect iSync?

  • How to restore a backup from 9300 to a 9300i?

    Hi,
I have made a backup of my 9300 to my PC. Then it broke and I have bought a 9300i. The issue is, PCSuite does not recognize the old .nfb file as a valid backup file for 9300i. I have saved the backup using an older version of PCSuite. Now I have installed 6.84.10.4 but that did not help much.
Is there a way to go round this? Say, convert the .nfb file or so.
    Thanks a lot in advance,
