9ir2 on Debian Woody installation hints (when dbca fails)

"Woody" is the soon-to-be-released Debian 3.0, and contains glibc 2.2.5. The current 'stable' Debian release, Potato, has glibc2.1, so that won't work. The installation went fairly smooth, until the configuration assistants were supposed to be fired up. A solution that worked for me was changing Oracle's installed JRE.
The j2sdk is not part of standard Debian. You have to add a mirror of the blackdown debian package to /etc/apt/sources.list. Add a line like this to your sources.list:
deb ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/java/jdk/debian woody non-free
Now use dselect, update and select the following packages:
locales
libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1
j2sdk1.3
Ofcourse the easiest way to do this is cut and paste the following commands:
apt-get update
apt-get install locales
apt-get install libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1
apt-get install j2sdk1.3
Changing kernel parameters; use sysctl.conf, I added this to mine:
kernel.sem = 250 32000 101 128
kernel.shmmax = 500000000
fs/file-max = 65536
Use sysctl -p, or reboot to activate the changes.
Start the installation, and do stuff UNTIL is asked for execution of root.sh
Now do the following:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/JRE/bin
rm jre javakey rmiregistry
ln -s /usr/bin/jre .
ln -s /usr/bin/javakey .
ln -s /usr/bin/rmiregistry .
After this, follow the root.sh instuctions and the rest of the installation should work fine.
Output of /usr/bin/java -version on my machine:
java version "1.3.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build Blackdown-1.3.1-FCS)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build Blackdown-1.3.1-FCS, mixed mode)

Hmm don't rm Oracla's java stuff, it's better to rename them and put the back after installation is complete. The above procedure works for installing and I assumed if the replaced jre would execute dbca and netca, oemapp would work as well.
But that's not the case :( Maybe the original would have worked but I cannot verify that at the moment.

  • CS6 Installer halts when installing Adobe Help

CS6 Creative Suite Design & Web Premium Trial downloads, extracts, but the installer halts when it hits "Currently Installing Adobe Help", and the install time keeps increasing indefinitely. I have tried over and over, re-downloading, using the direct download links, running the creative suite cleaner, the Adobe Support tool, restarting my computer, etc. etc. etc. It does this same thing when I have tried to install Dreamweaver CS6 on its own, but I was able to download & install Lightroom 4 with no problems whatsoever. What can I do at this point?

I too am having this problem, and killing InstallAdobeHelp.exe DOES seem to allow the installer to continue. Thank you for that tip, Dan!

    A couple notes:
I am installing CS6 Master Collection trial.
    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    I had CS4 & CS5 Master Collection installed (non-trial)
I tried removing both, with no luck.
I updated Download Manager and Adobe Air just previous to installing.
I have tried restarting, installing with and without internet access/activation (shouldn't really matter) - Attempted installation about 6 times.
Running InstallAdobeHelp from command line using the same call the installer does (InstallAdobeHelp.exe CommandLine: appVersion=4.0.244 appId=chc pubId=4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1 installerArg1=-silent installerArg2=-eulaAccepted installerArg3=-programMenu installerArg4=AdobeHelp.air) Gives the same result - an empty window appears and never goes away.
Canceling the installer doesn't kill InstallAdobeHelp.exe, it will keep running in the background until killed - even if the installer is forcefully stopped, and will even run 4 or 5 InstallAdobeHelp.exe processes at the same time, if you keep trying to install.
Big idea: I saw something in the log about already having AdobeHelp 1.0.0.0 installed (Probably from CS4/5?) I'm guessing this is causing the conflict:

    If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. • Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade issues..  I run the full install and my computer restarts to complete the installation, but when it restarts the software has not upgraded.  Any suggestions?

I've tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3.  I run the full install and my computer restarts to complete the installation, but when it restarts the software has not upgraded.  Any suggestions?

Are you booting from the retail disc to do the installation, or running it while booted from Macintosh HD?
It should work either way, but it doesn't always work when booted from Macintosh HD. The system files are supposed to be moved into place during the restart (while the HD is unmounted) making for a long restart time which sometimes causes people to think somethings wrong and abort it. Which is a bad move.
If you're booting from the retail disc it's less obvious what the problem may be; however if you've tried it from booted from the HD and it's failed, then tried booting from the disc, it will fail again because the system components are already on the HD in a disc image waiting to be moved into place.
Whichever way you were tryig, I'd try downloading OmnDiskSweeper (it's free)  and using it to see if there's a large package (around 7-10 GB) lurking somewhere that may contain the installer files. If you do, you'll need to trash that before the installer will see a 'clean' system again.
It's also worth asking how much free space you have on your HD - if there's not enough for the installer to use for the temporary package or dmg, it'll fail.
Was there no warning dialogue after the unsuccessful install?

  • Using hint when creating index

    Hi,
is it possible to use a hint when creating an index.
for example normally when creating an index, optimizer does full table scan, but i want it to use a different index to walk through the table.
    any ideas?
    technically impossible?

If the new index is a subset of an existing index, Oracle should be able to read the existing index to create the new index.
However, if the index consists of such a combination of columns that one or more is not in the subset then it has to read all the rows of the table.

How do I find installer? When I try to install downloads, the box says that I do not have the Installer I need.

If it's updates through the Office auto-updater that are having problems, that's probably an issue you'll need to take up on Microsoft's support site. If you're having problems installing Office from scratch and it's saying it can't find Installer, you may need to repair your hard drive. More help will probably be obtained if you post in the Mac OS X 10.6 forum; this forum, where you originally posted, is for help with the Communities themselves.

I can't do that since I do nothing with Windows.
It sounds like it was hacked to run XP and then makes it not run OS X now.
Only thing I can suggest is to repartition the hard drive to a single HFS+, GUID partition and see if that allows you to install OS X.

It is Solaris 10 (Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC) machine with patch level 125100-05 . Please help.
    Regards
    Vijoy

In both cases, there it is shown a block corrupt for database file 1, that means the install media was originally corrupt and the corruption was at the seed database files.
Check the media consistency to discover if corruption was originally there. In case it was redownload the zip file for solaris and unzip it somewhere else. Look for the seed database files at the ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates and replace them.
When you created by scripts, ensure the option where the scripts only is selected, do not try to create the database by means of the dbca, run scripts from the OS.

  • How do I deactivate online (needed when computer fails)?

Problem: When a computer fails with Adobe products installed, it is always a problem to do deactivation of license keys.
When I login to my account at adobe.com, I can see my licenses.  I would have expected that I could manage my activations there.  How can we get Adobe to provide license key activation management online?  When computers fail, right now, there is no way to re-install Adobe software on the replacement computers because Adobe think I've used up my total activations.
Without an solution within my adobe.com account, I always wind up spending HOURS talking with Adobe people.  It is a very frustrating process.  Please see below the 1 hour communication I had today that got me nowhere.
    Steve Amerige
Mohammed: Hello! Welcome to Adobe Customer Service.
Steve: The serial number in my account is xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
    Mohammed: Hi Steve
Steve: Began my day with a hard-disk failure.
Mohammed: May I please have your email address registered with Adobe while I review your request?
    Steve: [email protected]
    Steve: It's also my AdobeID
Mohammed: thank you for your emailaddress.
Steve: I had both CS 5 Master Collection as well as Acrobat Professional (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) installed on the computer whose hard drive failed.
Mohammed: Than you for the information.
Steve: It is possible that I installed Acrobat Pro Extended on that computer instead... I have license for that: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
Steve: Since the computer has crashed, I'm not sure which version of Acrobat I installed on it.
Steve: Anyway, I don't want to have any problems once I start reinstalling the Acrobat and CS 5 Master Collection software.
Mohammed: According to the End User License Agreement (EULA) law, it is recommended to install the Adobe Software on only two computers and that is mentioned on the End User License Agreement when installing the Software provided the Software is not used simultaneously.
Mohammed: However, you can install the Software on the third Computer by de-activating the Software from one of the older one and then install it on the new one so that you can avoid any error message while activating the Software.
Steve: I cannot de-activate the software... the hard drive has failed.
Mohammed: Thank you for the information. Please allow me 1-2 minutes while I check with the information.
Mohammed: I check the information. Still you have the activations left. You can activate the software.
Steve: I had the software already installed on 2 computers: my home computer and my work computer.
Mohammed: May I know what kind of errors your getting?
Steve: My work computer is the one that had the hard-disk failure.  Did you verify license availability for both of the serial numbers: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (CS5 Master Collection) and Acrobat Pro (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) and Acrobat Pro Extended (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx)?
Steve: I have not yet begun the installation... I have to finish loading the operating system first.  I just remembered the last time this happened that I had problems with activation.  I don't want problems this time.
Steve: Adobe should provide a website to manage activations.  When computers fail, it is not possible to deactivate.
Mohammed: This seems to be more of technical issue and Since I from Customer Support, In this case I will suggest you to contact our Specialized technical support team so that they would be able to resolve the issue better. I will provide you with the contact details for technical support team, Is that okay with you?
    Steve: Sure
Mohammed: You can directly contact our technical team at 800-833-6687.
Mohammed: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Steve: You can put in a suggestion that customers can manage their activations by logging into their online account.  When computers fail, this would be the only way they can manage activations.
Mohammed: Thank you for waiting. One moment please.
    Mohammed: Thank you.
Mohammed: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Steve: Yes, how do I submit a feature request to have online activation management?
Mohammed: In this case you can contact us back.
Steve: ???  Okay... why not now?
Mohammed: Okay in this case please contact technical  team.
Steve: And, how do I do that?  I just want to put in a feature request that activations should be managed online in my adobe.com account.
Mohammed: I'll be right with you.
Mohammed: Please follow the below steps to de-activate the product:
Mohammed: *Ensure that the computer on which you have the software installed is connected to the Internet.
Mohammed: *Select Deactivate from the Help menu in the product you want to deactivate.
    Mohammed: *Select Deactivate Permanently.
Mohammed: Once you de-activate the product from the old system, you will not have any issue while activating the product on the new system.
Steve: You've got to be kidding me!  Did you forget that my hard-drive failed?  Are you a real person or some software that is trying to answer my questions?
Mohammed: I am sorry that is for future reference.
Steve: As I said before, my hard-drive failed.  I cannot deactivate the license.  I called the phone number you gave me.  Adobe is not yet open, so at the moment I have no solution.
Steve: I will call them and see if they are able to help me.  But, I want to know how I make an official request that Adobe allow for online license key management from within my adobe.com account.
Mohammed: I am sorry, please stay online while I check with the activation seat for the serial number you have provided above.
Mohammed: Steve, in case of hard drive crash or any unavoidable situations, you can contact us while activating the product so that we can make necessary changes to the license and allow you to activate the product again with out any issues.
Steve: Okay... I'll proceed.  But, you still haven't answered my last question: how can I make an official request that Adobe allow for online license key management from within my adobe.com account?
Mohammed: Steve, you can leave your feedback here on chat so that I can escalate the same to higher level of support to check with this.
    Mohammed: Is that fine?
Steve: Yes... please do escalate this so that the feedback can be used.
    Mohammed: Thank you.
Mohammed: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Steve: No.  I will call the number you gave me when they open.  Until then, there is nothing for me to do except to begin the installation again, wait for the problem, and then re-start a new support session.  I wish Adobe could manage activations online, but I do understand that you can't at this moment do anything about it.  Have a nice day.
Mohammed: Sorry for the wait. Please do stay online.
    Mohammed: Thank you.
Mohammed: May I please have your email address registered with Adobe while I review your request?
Mohammed: Thank you for contacting Adobe.  We are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Goodbye!

You simply call support by phone and have them reset activations. At this point there is no way to manage that yourself.

the device has encountered an unexpected error. Installation error: application verification failed
I have been receiving this message over and over again when trying to publish my iOS app for the app store (I use Flash cc AIR 3.9.1.1080 for iOS and my settings are: "device testing in interpreter mode", as my app uses several swfs).
I have done everything from scratch, as recommended on other sections of the forums: new app ID from my apple developer account, new Distribution Certificates, new Distribution Provisioning Profiles and nothing works.
I can install my app on my iPad if I use the development Certificate and Provisioning Profile and everything seems OK. But as soon as I use the Distribution Certificate and Provisioning Profile get the same message:
the device has encountered an unexpected error. Installation error: application verification failed
I have done everything from the beggining over and over and nothing works. Am I the only one having this issue on Flash cc???

    Hi Daniel:
I´m far from being an expert on Xcode (or any code) but this is what I did and it worked:
    - On Xcode go to Preferences > Accounts > select your App Developer Account, then click "view details" on the lower right corner.
    - There you can see which of your "Signing Identities" (Certificates) are "Valid". You should have at least one for Development and one for Distribution.
    - Below that window there are two icons which you can use to add, export or revoke a "Signing Identitie" (Certificate).
    - Choose the one you want to use (Develop. or Distrib.), export it to the folder of the app you are working on and name it in such a way you can relate it to your app. Before knowing this I was exporting them using Keychain Access and I wasn´t naming them to differentiate each one properly.
    - On your Apple Developer account create the Provisioning Profile for your app. I deleted any App IDs or Prov. Profs. which were useless.
    - Then on my Apple Developer account I generated a Development Prov. Prof. to install and test my app on my iPad. All went fine.
    - Then an Ad Hoc Prov. Prof. again to install and test my app on my iPad. All went fine.
    - Then I generated the App Store Prov. Prof. and I was able to install the app on my device without the upsetting error.
    - Then I uploaded the app to iTunes Connect with no problem.

    Good luck!
