A lil' OT - JS redirect question

I think I need to do a round trip back to the server, in
order to get the
screen.width and make it available to my server-side code.
I would like to make this an automatic, seamless,
unnoticeable process, as
far as the end user is concerned.
B/c JS and myself aren't the best of mates (in fact, we
hardly talk these
days :-), I'm not sure what is possible or how to do this.
But here's what
I'm thinking:
In a JS function, set a var like: width=screen.width;
and then redirect the page back to itself but with the width
var appended in
the query string.
Perhaps set this to the onload event of the body tag?
If that's going to make a url var available to that page, and
that's the
most seamless way to do this, great, can someone please flesh
out the (very)
broadstrokes I've got please? Tks.
If there's a better way, and there has to be, surely, please
can someone
dazzle me with their helpful brilliance because I'm clueless
Cheers,
Lossed
__when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks

I am NOT trying to ;-)
I just want to know how to make whatever setting they have,
available to
coldfusion so it can then serve the most appropriate page.
Any help with JS that will make that available, and in a
manner as seamless
as possible, will be fantastic.
Anyone?
Lossed.

  • Migrating from Comcast PWP - redirection question

    I've run my website hosted by Comcast PWP for 18 months, but it's time to move on as FileZilla stopped working and Comcast PWP support seems to have sunset.
    Since I built my website by hand (HTML and Notepad) instead of using proprietary PWP tools, it's easy to move the pages to another web hosting provider.
    My question is: what's the best way to redirect clicks on my Comcast PWP website to the new host?
    I have a domain name (http://newbostonhistoricalsociety.com) at Register.com, and I've pointed that to the new host instead of Comcast.
    Therefore anyone accessing my website from the homepage will get content from the new host.
    However, many Google searches point to my individual web pages with the Comcast name embedded in the URL: http://home.comcast.net/~nbhs/cannon.html for example.
    I've got a dozen or more pages like this one which got a lot of hits over the past year and a half.
    I would like to preserve whatever "link juice" I've built up with the search engines while I steer traffic to the new URLs and host.
    It appears that there are two popular ways to redirect traffic.
    I can use a "Meta Refresh Tag" in my header or I can try to implement a 301 redirect. (I hope I'm using the correct terminology.)
    The 301 redirect looks like it would globally redirect all traffic from my Comcast site to the new site.
    However, I've got to create an .htaccess file in the root of my web server, and I'm not sure if I can do that with Comcast PWP or how.
    I also don't understand if all clicks get redirected to the home page of the new site, which might confuse people.
    Plan B is to put a "Meta Refresh Tag" into each of the separate pages' HTML files so that for example http://home.comcast.net/~nbhs/cannon.html would be redirected to the new site's URL http://newbostonhistoricalsociety.com/cannon.html .  Once there, any clicks would stay on the new site.
    Does anyone have thoughts about what's best?
    I've read mixed reviews on the "Meta Refresh Tag" as to whether or not it upsets Search Engine Optimization.Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

  • Redirection question

    Hi,
    I want to use an ACE appliance as an ssl proxy with user certificate authentication  .
    everything is configured and working fine but I want to know if I could redirect users that dont have a certificate to a certain web page
    so that they would know why they cant access internal resources and know how to fix it. ?
    thanks

    so I upgraded to that version and sure enough the commands are available
    thanks
    the redirection works excellent !!
    I have a question : Is there a way to download crl manually ? I dont want to reconfigure the CRL under the ssl-proxy each time I need to download
    a new published CRL .
    basically what I am asking is there a way to make the ACE download CRL more frequently and not be dependent on the CA servers publish
    Interval ? It seems kind of strange that I have to delete my CRL configuration and paste it back in to "make" the ACE download a new CRL.
    secondly,
    I have attached a screenshoot from my configuration in order to ask for a clarification .
    In the picture you see that I have 3 certificates (besides the default)
    one that I downloaded from the CA server and thats its own certificate
    second is an identity certificate that the CA signed for a web site (10.2.2.20) (using a CSR with "my-key")
    third is another identity cert for 10.2.2.21 (using a CSR with "my-key")
    I dont understand why It says "False" under the CA certificate ? the key matches the certificate and evrything works fine.
    is it because this is the ACE identity certificate and not an actual CA certificate (self signed or delegated) ?

  • SRA Redirection Question

    Let me start with the scenario:
    I have 2 sites A and B. Each site has 1 directory server (DS-A and DS-B). The 2 DS are configured for MMR. Layered on top is an instance of Access Manager at each site (AM-A and AM-B). Also, each site has a Portal Server configured for SRA and a Gateway Server. Each Portal and Gateway instance are also named accordingly, PS-A/PS-B and GW-A/GW-B.
    When both server are up everything works as it should, logging in through GW-A or B you are re-directed to a custom site. The problem is when logging in to GW-B, I am re-directed to AM-A for authentication. This causes problem if AM-A is not available.
    How can I tell GW-B to redirect to only AM-B? I used example10.xml to configure the the GW. Please let me know if more information is needed.
    Thanks,
    J

  • Web.xml servlet redirection question

    Hi everyone;
    As you know web.xml file allows you to enter something like this
         <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>application1</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>/application1</url-pattern>
         </servlet-mapping>
    so you can find your application.
    As you know it is case sensitive so if a user enters /Application1 it wouldn't be found. I was wondering if i could put a node in there that would redirect requests from Application1 to application.
    Any ideas ?
    Stev

    oh i wasn't aware that i could put multiple nodes in there like this
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>application1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/application1</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>application1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/Application1</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>application1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/APplication1</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    is there a way to simply make this case insensitive and all requests get translated to the lowercase versioN?

  • Redirection question - best practice

    I have a managed session scoped bean, named UserBean, which as it's name implies stores user information. Now, if the session has expired (or was never created), a lot of it's methods will return null values and will result in an error. What I'd like to know is the best way to redirect to a login page if the UserBean is null. My first idea was the following:
    <navigation-rule>
            <from-view-id>*</from-view-id>
            <navigation-case>
                <from-outcome>#{UserBean == null}</from-outcome>
                <to-view-id>/login.xhtml</to-view-id>
                <redirect/>
            </navigation-case>
        </navigation-rule>However it didn't work. Am I onto something? If not -- whats the best solution?
    I appreciate your help.

    ServletRequest is an interface [1]. In a HTTP servlet environment the ServletRequest instance in the Filter is an implementation of HttpServletRequest [2]. So cast it back.

  • Process and Redirect Question

    Hello -
    Thinking back to some ASP and JSP practices, sometimes you might have a page that was purely for processing a form and then the page just redirects. I am wondering what the best way to do this in HTMLDB is.
    For instance, if I have a report and I configure one of the columns of the report to be a hyperlink that reads "Process" or something. The desired functionality would be to run a process associated with this row in the report, then redirect back to the same report page. Like I said, in ASP or JSP my link might call another page which does the processing and then redirects back.
    I tried to create a page with an "On Load" process and then an "On Load Redirect" following it, but it does not seem to work. Is there a cleaner way to do this in HTMLDB?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Dave,
    We have a branch type 'Branch to Page Accept'. When you branch to a page using this type of branch, the page is not shown: only the after-submit processing is performed. Then that page's branching is performed and you end up on yet another page.
    What you need is a way to do this type of branch in a URL redirect from your report link. You can do this. Such a link to page 10 would look like:
        f?p=&APP_ID.:10:&SESSION.:BRANCH_TO_PAGE_ACCEPT:NO::ITEM1,ITEM2:VALUE1,VALUE2Page 10 would be 'submitted' and would do after-submit computations, validations, processes, and branching. For the case you described, you'd redirect (or directly branch) back to the report page, but you can implement n-way branching logic as well.
    And there's more: because pages often use the value of the request (the button used to submit the page) to direct after-submit logic, you can pass in a request in the URL described above. To set the request to 'PROCESS', for example, the URL would be:
        f?p=&APP_ID.:10:&SESSION.:BRANCH_TO_PAGE_ACCEPT|PROCESS:NO::ITEM1,ITEM2:VALUE1,VALUE2The engine sees the request as 'BRANCH_TO_PAGE_ACCEPT' and skips the 'show' processing, going directly to 'accept' processing. Then the request that your page is interested in ('PROCESS') is parsed out and passed to your page as the real request value.
    -Scott
    P.S. If you like, you can show your name in this forum instead of a numeric ID by clicking on 'Forum Settings' and setting 'Name visible to others' to Yes.

  • Command output redirect question

    Hi guys,
    I am putting in a kron function to transfer the command output from all the switches and routers on our network to a tftp server.
    I have the kron occurence and policy lists set up the way I want them and have tested the redirection of the command line output to the server.
    The problem I have is that I want to back up the switches 3 or 4 times once a week to compare the configs to make sure that no unwanted changes are being made over the course of the month.
    Is there a way to use a variable to change the file name when it redirects? Currently when the occurence runs the file modified time on the tftp server changes but the output doesnt append as I had hoped it would, i.e one file having the config copy in to the file over and over.
    Thanks for your help

    You might want to consider the built-in Config Archive feature instead of kron.  With Config Archive, you can periodically take backups of your config (even to a network server), and you can adjust the filenames using either date or hostname (or both).  Check out the documentation at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/12_3t7/feature/guide/gtrollbk.html#wp1100253 for more details.
    In addition to Config Archive, you also have the option of going with the Embedded Event Manager.  EEM also has a cron feature which will allow you to run CLI commands periodically.  Depending on your IOS version, it may be possible to do what you want using a simple EEM applet, or you might have to use a Tcl script policy.  More on EEM can be found at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/netmgmt/configuration/guide/nm_eem_overview_ps10592_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html .
    All that said, most TFTP servers have a security requirement that a file must exist on the server before one can write to it.  Therefore, if you try and create new files (i.e. a new file each day), the TFTP server may reject the WRITE REQUEST unless a file with that name already exists.  In light of that, you may need to use something like SCP or FTP instead.

  • Page Redirect Question

    I have a page that I have created where you enter your email
    address and check off yes you want to sign up for a newsletter.
    When you submit that it takes you to the action page which inputs
    the datainto the access database. After this it is supposed to
    redirect you to a pdf. So you click submit and it takes you to the
    newpages flashes a brief thank you and opens the pdf. At least...
    that is what it is supposed to do. Instead - after it inputs data
    into the database, it tries to do it againa nd then prompts an
    error rather then looking and seeing that it has been done and
    opening up the pdf.
    Any tips?

    Is there are reason you aren't using CFLOCATION to take the
    user to the PDF after the insert? I think it would be less
    problematic.

  • ACE Redirection question

    We are migrating a large application to a new serverfarm one folder at a time. the exiting applicaiton server is not loadbalanced via the ACE.
    We want to set a vip on the ACE as the primary DNS entry for host ans.company.com. When users requrest ans.company.com/dfr they will get L7 loadbalanced (via url matching) to a new local serverfarm.
    When the users request ans.company.com/cms we want to redirect them to the old application server that wull be renamed via dns as classic.ans.company.com.
    As each folder is migrated to the new servers the L7 rules will be modified to keep that traffic local
    example
    user requests ans.company.com/bfr or ans.company.com/cms they will be sent to the local new serverfarm.
    user requests ans.company.com/dma1 or ans.company.com/dma2 they will be redirected to classic.ans.company.com/dma1 or classic.ans.comapny.com/dma2 (depending on the original request).
    Does anyone have an sample script for this type of senario? I have the loadbalancing working fine. It's the redirection that is not working. I am trying to use a L7 url match to send the requrest to a redirect rserver
    Any help would be appreciated.

    It should be some thing like
    rserver redirect REDIRECT-TO-OLD
    webhost-redirection http://classic.ans.company.com/%p 302
    inservice
    serverfarm redirect REDIRECT-SERVERFARM
    rserver REDIRECT-TO-OLD
    inservice
    class-map type http loadbalance match-any local-new
    match http url /bfr
    match http url /cms
    class-map type http loadbalance match-any remote-old
    match http url /dma1
    match http url /dma2
    policy-map type loadbalance first-match L7_LOGIC

  • 301 redirect question

    I have a website with a couple thousand pageloads a week and
    a google rank of 5.
    I have set up a blog on the same server in a directory and
    now want to move the blog to the domain name and have the traffic
    and the rank go to the blog rather than the website.
    Some say do 301 redirect.
    Some say just move your blog index.php.
    Some say erase the WWW.domain redirect, leave THAT as the
    website and use the NO-WWW.domain for the blog?
    Any advice on this please?
    RJ

    Thanx Sonjay!
    The website is not going under, it is important, but the blog
    is more important regards bringing in search results. I want the
    arrival to the blog and then go to the website if they want.
    I tested the 301 htaccess and it worked fine, page rank
    carried over and worked instantly. But I had not figured that about
    1000 links and graphic pointers are now wrong! :) Not quite sure
    what to do about that.
    I have most everything for the website in the root and quite
    a bit of the blog there too, I suppose I could move most everything
    in the root to domain/blog/?
    rackjite.com is my domain, and serendipity is the director
    the blog is in.
    So I though I would try the PHP redirect in the index.htm
    file.
    <?php
    header( 'Location: http:/rackjite.com/serendipity/' ) ;
    ?>
    I tried that with the index.php and no slash and so forth
    with no luck. I put it at tippity top as required and it doesnt do
    anything at all. I do not know if this is a good way of doing it
    but I did want to see what actually happened. If the page rank went
    with it?
    I also wonder about putting the blog index.php into the root
    and what would happen. Does it still default to index.htm? if there
    is a index.php.
    My firend with the WWW suggestion has always been a bit weird
    about WWW. He is a WWW advocate of sorts and I dont really know
    what the point is, but it is colored by his prejudice for using
    WWW.
    Im confused on how best to do this.
    One other thing to ponder, the webpage has a grank of 5 and
    the blog even now has google rank of 4, how important is that
    difference?
    I have quite a few links out there to the domain, perhpas I
    could just ask for new links under the blog name and hope they will
    add that too? Been around long enough to know that wont work very
    well though... :)
    thanx again

  • Group Policy Folder Redirection Question

    Hello
    We have a group Policy Redirection setup, to redirect the Desktop and the documents folder to the users a private Drive.
    This works fine.
    Its currently setup as a UNC path in the group Policy. The user has their private drive setup by a unc path in the users Active Directory/properties/profile/Home Folder.
    I have seen when i chnage the unc path of the users Active Directory/properties/profile/Home Folder to a dfs path and then restart the users computer the user is logged into all the documents in the documents folder disappear.
    Any ideas as to why this is?
    Will are using windows 7 sp1.

    The DFS path points to the same target as the UNC path? Then enable

  • Address redirection questions

    So I have two issues that are causing a pain in my bottom side.
    1. I cannot get the Http to Https redirect to work for my site. I fiddled with URL Rewrite but cant get it to work with my 2013 site. It seems to work fine with wss3.0 though. My aam's are internal http to public default https. I just get a 404 when I try
    the http address.
    2. I have to type the /sites/main at the end of my url to get to my main site collection. If I try just https://sp.companyname.com it will give this error:
    HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5
    Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2014 16:29:58 GMT
    Connection: closeI have very limited experience with IIS and basic with sharepoint. Do you guys know what I am missing?

    in regards to number 2, it looks like there is no root site collection. No site collection means no HTTP response. This is also poor usability. You should ALWAYS assume that the root site collection is the entry point for your SharePoint web application.

  • Optional URL Redirect Question

    I just created a button and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section I am redirecting to the same page. Then I set the "Set these items/With These values" properties with a particular item that I want to remain populated with the same value that it had before the redirect.
    Problem: When I run the app and enter a value in that item and then click the button, the value in that item disappears. Why is this happening if I set the "Set these items/With These values" properties, as described above? Thanks.

    Patrick,
    ...there is a "Request" property that had to be set to the name of the button, in order for it to work correctly, i.e., in order for the region that needs to be displayed when I click this button to actually display.
    Okay, that implies that whoever built the page uses the request value during page rendering to conditionally show/not show certain elements. If that's the requirement then setting the request value in URLs produced by certain branches might be appropriate.
    If I choose to clear the cache for the branch, as soon as I click the button and am redirected to the same page, the permit number disappears once again.
    This would be a case where you wouldn't clear cache in such a URL. But when you navigate to that page from other pages in the application, say from a menu, list, tab, etc., you might want to in order to prevent stale values from displaying in the form items that use "Only, ..." for Source Used.

  • 301 Redirections - Proper way to set up?

    Hi - I have an quick and hopefully easy 301 redirect question.
    Here is the duplicate title Notice from Webmaster Tools (and this is also showing duplicate content in SEOMoz).
    So obviously I need to do a 301 redirect.
    The top level menus on the site point to the /about version and not the index.html
    the /index.html is NOT the one I want to use for the 301 if possible - does anyone have a suggestion for how to accomplish this?
    Thanks!

    Have you just tried doing the basic issue there and changed title tags?
    Had someone ask this on the forums before and over complicating looking at 301's when they just changed names of items and page titles and fixed it
    Not sure what you mean about /about etc.
    If you have an about page you got several pages related to it? You have a dropdown menu? So you made a folder /about and the landing page index.html?
    If not and it is just one page and you did that you do not need to. /about as a page is all you need.
    You got to remeber that when  you post on the forums you see all your information and sites, we do not so you need to be detailed or exact in your posts so we can get to the same pooint as you in our heads
