Migrating from Comcast PWP - redirection question

I've run my website hosted by Comcast PWP for 18 months, but it's time to move on as FileZilla stopped working and Comcast PWP support seems to have sunset.
Since I built my website by hand (HTML and Notepad) instead of using proprietary PWP tools, it's easy to move the pages to another web hosting provider.
My question is: what's the best way to redirect clicks on my Comcast PWP website to the new host?
I have a domain name (http://newbostonhistoricalsociety.com) at Register.com, and I've pointed that to the new host instead of Comcast.
Therefore anyone accessing my website from the homepage will get content from the new host.
However, many Google searches point to my individual web pages with the Comcast name embedded in the URL: http://home.comcast.net/~nbhs/cannon.html for example.
I've got a dozen or more pages like this one which got a lot of hits over the past year and a half.
I would like to preserve whatever "link juice" I've built up with the search engines while I steer traffic to the new URLs and host.
It appears that there are two popular ways to redirect traffic.
I can use a "Meta Refresh Tag" in my header or I can try to implement a 301 redirect. (I hope I'm using the correct terminology.)
The 301 redirect looks like it would globally redirect all traffic from my Comcast site to the new site.
However, I've got to create an .htaccess file in the root of my web server, and I'm not sure if I can do that with Comcast PWP or how.
I also don't understand if all clicks get redirected to the home page of the new site, which might confuse people.
Plan B is to put a "Meta Refresh Tag" into each of the separate pages' HTML files so that for example http://home.comcast.net/~nbhs/cannon.html would be redirected to the new site's URL http://newbostonhistoricalsociety.com/cannon.html .  Once there, any clicks would stay on the new site.
Does anyone have thoughts about what's best?
I've read mixed reviews on the "Meta Refresh Tag" as to whether or not it upsets Search Engine Optimization. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

  • Migrating from SonicWALL to RRAS - questions on functionality for business network setup & monitoring

At my organization we are planning to move away from using SonicWALL and using Microsoft Server 2012 RRAS to handle IPv4 NAT routing and VPN connections for remote employees.  I am trying to plan for all the functionality I currently have in our
SonicWALL router, and I'm not familiar with the Windows equivalent for some features and/or if the available features will have all the  functionality our organization needs.  Additionally wondering if there is something better that you would recommend
in terms of ease-of-use / management from an IT standpoint.
    Feature:  Firewall
I assume that Windows Advanced Firewall can handle all the firewall settings that I would normally find in an enterprise router.  Is this a correct assumption?
    Feature:  Content blocking
What Microsoft technology would I use for blocking certain content and websites from being viewed in the workplace network?  Can Windows Firewall handle these two types of content blocking?:
Blocking websites by general content - i.e. block porn sites.
    Blocking websites by specific URL
    Feature:  Network activity monitoring
In cases where the network is slow, what would I use to inspect what IP/MAC is hogging bandwidth?  Currently on SonicWALL we are able to see which computer is hogging bandwidth, see what website is, how much bandwidth it is consuming.  Can RRAS
handle this level of detail, or is SCOM / some other technology more well-suited?  Should we use a non-Microsoft application (something like Wireshark) instead?
Feature: Network prioritization (QoS / bandwidth management)
Can we set certain network groups to have priority over others?  For example, if we split our incoming network into two networks using RRAS, 192.168.50.x for data and 10.0.50.x for VOIP, I want the VOIP network to get priority in order to
ensure quality audio on all phone calls.  I assume this is available in RRAS.
Basically I'm just looking to see what systems I need set up to satisfy these business needs.  If anyone has any real-world experience let me know what your setup is like -- I'm curious to know!

"I assume that Windows Advanced Firewall can handle all the firewall settings that I would normally find in an enterprise router.  Is this a correct assumption?"
Your statement as it stands is correct.  In fact, Windows firewall will handle more firewall settings than those found in a
router.  However, SonicWall is not just a router - it's a firewall.  There is a big difference. Given that you are comparing Windows Firewall to a robust firewall, I agree with Dennis that you should either stay with SonicWall or
look at Microsoft's product.  But, given that on the link Dennis provided, you will find that Microsoft is discontinuing UAG, you might want to stick with what you know - SonicWall.  Or, you need to evaluate your needs more.  Yes, Microsoft
provides a number of built-in capabilities that may address your particular needs.  We can't answer that.  But, if there are features you need that are not available via Windows Server, then it is best to get a product that addresses those needs.

  • Migration from 2003 to 2008R2 - Questions from a first-timer

    How is everybody doing.
I'm managing for the very first time a WSUS server.
Right now there's a WS2003x64 SP2 STD handling this role. The issue is that this server has gotten out of control: MMC crashes all the time due to different causes. For example: when I try to delete more or less 20 PCs it crashes, when I try to run the cleanup
utility it also happens, when this occurs all the actions that were started don't happen and WSUS stays the same.
This made me recommend the option of starting a new server (I've said to use a 2008R2 which I believe will have SP1 installed, don't know if it makes a difference here). Here's my thinking, I'd like to get any recommendation regarding these steps:
1- Install OS and role (with IIS, WID and Report Viewer 2008): do the role automatically install all neccesary tools for report creation and PCs reporting to the WSUS? After that update WSUS to SP2.
The server will use a different IP than the actual.
2- Create all the neccesary Computer Groups: will use a couple of groups for testing and then split all servers and user computers in
Critical (for servers), Download & Choose Install
(for servers), Automatic Install (for servers) and Workstations
(automatic install), Critical Workstations (DL & choose) and use client-side targeting to fill them.
3- Apply GPOs on the OUs hosting each type of computers: here I have a question; can I have the same computer apply to two different WSUS? On my mind the computer status should be the same on both so it shouldn't be a problem.
4- Choose the products and type of updates to syncronize.
5- Start synchronization with Windows Update to retrieve available updates.
And that should be it. Will this work? I guess I'm missing info here regarding implementation, let me know and I'll tell you what my plan is.
    Thanks.

When I start synchronizing the server: which updates for approval will show? All the available ones on Windows Update catalog or only the ones that are missing on the computers/servers on our environment?
The Windows Update Agent will flag any update that is Not Installed and could be installed as "Needed". That does not, however, mean that the update should be installed, or that it would be installed even if you approved it.
Rule #1: Do not approve updates that are superseded. That will solve 90% of the issues right off the top.
Rule #2: Do not approve updates that are not listed as "Needed". (You can approve them later if you want them available for future systems.)
Rule #3: Consider approving updates in small to medium quantity batches. I suggest focusing on only Security Updates to start with. As the WSUS server downloads the updates, the clients will start to see these updates as available for installation. If you
approve a large number of updates, the download may take several days. Invariably this results in a client installing small batches of updates over several days, which has a unique tendency to totally annoy the person trying to use the computer to do real
    work.
Regarding WSUS functionality: When I approve an update and it installs automatically due to GPO setting the 4th option. Now I have to uninstall it because it crashes an application being used in the company.
This can be a real problem -- which is why the most important part of patch management is TEST TEST TEST. Identify a PILOT group of highly-trusted and aware users for doing your initial deployment. If they don't encounter any issues in 48-72 hours, then
it's appropriate to unleash the updates on the rest of the organization.
When Automatic Updates searches again for new patches, will WSUS push and install the same update again?
Well, that depends. If you identify an update that is defective, the very first thing you should do is decline the update. This will prevent most future installations of the update. Clients that have already downloaded the update will still try to install
it until they discover it has been declined. If the update is declined, and you then uninstall the update, the client will not attempt to install the update again because it does not have an approval. If you don't remove the approval and remove the update,
the client will most definitely attempt to (re)install that update at the next opportunity.
When does it stop pushing updates? Can I configure that?
When you remove the approval for installation via the WSUS console.

  • Question regarding Exchange ActiveSync migration from Exchange 2003

    Hello,
I am a bit confused about info about requirements when migrating Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) from 2003 to 2010. Now this question is related to EAS only, forget about other services, such as OWA or Outlook Anywhere, for a while.
Basically, all migration guides state that you have to configure and setup a legacy url for legacy services for co-existence. Based on that, I have had an understanding that Exchange 2010 CAS cannot proxy EAS users that are still on Exchange 2003, but issues
a redirect command to EAS client.
However, this article shows information that, based on my understanding, states that Exchange 2010 CAS DOES proxy EAS clients that are still on 2003: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/12/08/3408985.aspx
For migration from 2007 EAS to 2010 EAS the article shows redirecting, but not with 2003.
So my question is: While talking about only EAS, do I need to configure legacy external url/namespace/name resolution or not?
    Thanks for answering!

    Hello,
    I agree with Rajith's suggestion.

  • Migrate from G4 to new Macbook.. Not your typical question

    Good morning.
My wife was using an iBook G4 for some time. Our 13 month old grandson one day made a quick move and pulled on the display, pulling it towards him. The machine now only shows a grey/white screen when booting. It sounds like it is starting (chime, you can hear the drives, etc.) but nothing on the display. I haven't tried connecting it to an external display as I haven't been able to find the mini connector.
In any event, I think it's time to get my wife a new MacBook. My question is, if she decides she wants to migrate from the old iBook and not start from scratch, is that possible without being able to "see" the activity on the old iBook? If so, what would I need to do?
    Thanks.

I would actually recommend attaching an external monitor to your iBook and just transfer the data over. Unfortunately you might have to spend extra if you don't have the adapter. You can then use any ethernet cable, attach one end on the Mac and another end to your new one and then enable the transfer.

  • Migrating from other Application Server - security questions

    Hello guys,
I am newbie with BEA Weblogic, migrating from JBoss/Tomcat.
I am interested in security techniques used in Weblogic.
For example, how can I configure web auth./protected area with authorisation from SQL (MySQL in my case) database? In JBoss/Tomcat I've used to configure JDBC security realm for Tomcat, but in Weblogic 8.1 I can hardly find such ability to configure such realm. I need to say that I see only one default realm.
I am using Weblogic Server 8.1.
Looking forward any your help, thanks!
If you can share some usefull links/articles - this would be great!

  • Migration from 2007 and Archive Mailbox PST import question

Our enterprise will be migrating from Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2013 CU3 very shortly. Exchange 2013 is set up and I am in coexistance mode currently. Everything is working fine with the legacy redirection, I have tested some mailbox migrations and they
work fine. We currently use Mimosa Nearpoint as a third party email archive product.
As part of this migration from 2007 to 2013, we plan on moving away from Mimosa Nearpoint and utilizing the Exchange 2013 Archive Mailbox feature. We will give each user an Archive Mailbox. We have the ability to export the users existing archive out of
NearPoint to .PST files and then migrating them directly into the users Archive Mailbox using the "New-MailboxImportRequest -IsArchive" powershell commandlet. This has been tested and works fine with one very important exception.
When I export from Nearpoint, I have to export the entire contents of the archive, I cannot set date ranges. So when I do an export, it also contains the contents of the user's mailbox. I have managed folder policies in place in the Exchange 2007 environment
which delete all contents of the mailbox older than 60 days, but when I import the .PST to the archive, it imports ALL items into the Archive Mailbox. So I have 60 days worth duplication of items.
It is my understanding that if I imported the Archive .PST directly into the users production mailbox in the 2013 side, that it would not import duplicate items. I am trying to find out if there is any process which will do the same thing with me importing
directly into the users Archive Mailbox.
    Thanks you,

    Hi,
We used a third patry email archive product to export to .pst files, so it is too hard to say that whether it cause this issue.
However, I found a method to delete the duplicate items from our mailbox via MFCMAPI Tool.
Please make sure that the Exchange Server mailbox has been backed up first.
    Details in the following KB:
How to remove duplicate folders in Outlook when connected to an Exchange Server mailbox
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509983
I also found a script to remove duplicate items.
This script will scan each folder of a given mailbox and removes duplicate items from those folders. You can specify how the items should be deleted and what items to process, e.g. mail items or appointments. Sample usage is after a misbehaving synchronization
tool creates duplicate items or (accidental) import of PST file with duplicate items.

  • Migrate from XI 3.0 to PI 7.11 software component version question

    Hi,
We are migrating from XI 3.0 to PI 7.11. there are about 2000 receiver determination, etc.
We have to assign for every receiver determination, interface determination etc a new software component version.
does anyone know how to do this automaticly.
    regards meinhart

The SWVC in receiver determination is not relevant for service interfaces of type "XI 3.0 compatible".
So you can leave the fields emtpy.
The technical background for this SWVC in receiver determination is finding the correct operation for a message.
But XI 3.0 compatible service interfaces have only one operation with same name as the interface.

I want to make sure I am not going to lose anything that we have customized in our existing configuration.
I may end up waiting for the next minor release of 6.x but I would like to find out ahead of time.
    Thanks!

Yes reports should be part of it.

  • Concept questions (editing jpegs, migrating from Album/Elements)

    Hi Lightroom experts,
I have a collection of jpegs which I have been organizing in Adobe Album, and now Elements 5.0. I was pleased to see that Elements 5 could write the metadata (keywords) to the jpegs rather than relying upon a proprietary database. It was clear to me that in Elements the keywords were in a separate database and one had to expressly write the tags to the files.
In Lightroom there is also a separate database (which requires management - like backing it up on a regular basis). What is not clear to me is how to write the metadata/tags to the original jpeg files. Does that happen automatically or must I instruct Lightroom to do so?
Must I export the files in order to write the adjusted metadata? If so, that means I have two copies (original and exported).
Secondly, I have both Photoshop CS2 and Elements 5.0. Lightroom only has an option to Edit In Elements but I want that option to be Edit in Photoshop. It is unclear how to change that configuration.
Finally, does anyone have any comments regarding migrating from Album/Elements to Lightroom for an amateur photographer like myself? Would you advise that? (I do like what I've seen in Lightroom but need to understand much more).
    Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

    Fielding,
I switched from Elements 5 after only a few weeks with it when I saw the great improvements in Lightroom from beta 4 to version 1. Several reasons for my switch. One, Elements only supports a few metadata tags, mostly keywords. I needed more to do what I wanted to do. Many people use collections in Elements for things that aren't in my opinion suitable, like for keeping trip or event pictures together. You can have that information in metadata by choosing an appropriate metadata field and using it. I'm using Job Identifier in Workflow myself. So I find the metadata support far superior in Lightroom. I was also concerned that Elements, being a product for hobbyists, would not be able to handle the large number of images I intend to put into the database. I already had trouble with the elements database ballooning so I was very concerned. I also think it has about the ugliest interface I've seen in a long time. I suppose the latter doesn't matter, but LR is SO beautiful!
I can't help you with how to get photoshop to show up. Did you try Edit/Preferences? If Elements is the first one there, the second one allows you to choose. Which Photoshop do you have? Before I got CS2 I think I did have PS find it for Lightroom.
You can ask Lightroom to write out the metadata but it does not do it in such a way that you can see it in some other applications. When it says it writes it out as XMP it means it. It's in there, but you can only see it with applications that can read XMP as opposed to IPTC etc. When you export, it does write the metadata in the way most products expect it. I've decided not to worry about this though because a) I back up my lightroom database, and b) if I do decide to abandon Lightroom, or it abandons me, I will in any case have to export everything because without exporting you don't have the Develop adjustments either. Then I back up my LR backups and my image repository, usually nightly.
My migration from Elements did not go very well but I was lucky because I'd just started entering stuff in Elements when I abandoned it -- so I didn't lose much. You can do a search of this forum, maybe on the word elements, to see several threads about the problems people have had. If you have everything in Album you might try a transfer from that first and see if it works. You can always toss your LR database if you want to try a different way of loading it. You do not have to move your files to import them into LR.
If you want a catalog, you will need a database so you get reasonable response on queries, which is presumably the reason for wanting a catalog. Both the Elements database and the LR database are standard databases that you can manipulate yourself, should you choose to do so. Elements is Access, LR is SQLite. I did look at the Elements db but haven't done anything with the LR database. I hope I don't have to because LR can export the metadata. Collections are not in metadata so I'm using collections only for things I don't need to keep.

  • Spatial and MV - migrating from one server to another question

If we want to migrate from one MV server + database to another one - is it possible to automatically export/import map cache definitions (MDSYS.SDO_CACHED_MAPS_TABLE)? and MDSYS.SDO_GEOM_METADATA_TABLE ? - this metadata table imports only references to tables using imp/exp.exe tools but not references to views
    thanks,
    Branislav

You are correct that the migration tool will copy security where manually won't as for fariables, that should not be a problem either way.
The unicode file utility is supposed to convert lots of things including outlines and load rules. It can be used to convert locale. Below are the options and an example of changing the locale
    Options:
-a List all the supported locales
-b Create a backup file (.bak) for each modified file
-c Convert each specified text file without a UTF-8 signature to UTF-8, stripping off any
existing locale indicator and adding a UTF-8 signature
-d Delete any locale indicator from each specified text, rule, or outline file
    (Does not delete UTF-8 signatures)
-e Display the encoding of each specifed text, rule or outline file
    -h Display this text
-i Add a locale indicator to any specified non-Unicode text, rules, or outline file
-l Use the specified locale for any conversion or labeling (ESSLANG is the default)
    -q Operate quietly
-s Add a UTF-8 signature to any specifed text file that does not have a UTF-8 signature or a locale indicator
The -c, -d, -i, and -s options may not be used in combination. The remaining
options may be used in combination with these options or in combination with
    each other.
    First delete the existing locale
    essutf8 -d myfile1.txt myfile2.rul
Delete any locale indicator from myfile1.tst      and myfile2.rul. Does not delete UTF-8      signatures.
    then add the new one
    essutf8 -i myrule.rul
Add the ESSLANG locale indicator to      myrule.rul if myrule.rul      does not have a      locale indicator or a UTF-8 signature.

  • Bulk Project Site option isn't working in project server 2010 migrated from PS 2007.

    Hi,
I am doing a test migration from epm 2007 to epm 2013.
So first, i need to migrate the project server 2007 to project server 2010. i have 2 separate environments for EPM 2007 and EPM 2010).
there is no problem in migration process and i successfully migrate entire PWA 2007 to 2010, except Workspaces (Project sites).
Bulk project site option is not helping. I have tried 4-5 times with different PWA 2007 databases (PWA1, PWA2...) but this option did not work. and errors in queue are WSSWebDoesNotExist(16405) and GeneralQueueJobFailed(26000).
Then next time while migrating all over again i kept the same port and same PWA name then bulk project site option worked.
Question is, Do i need to keep the same PWA name and same port for the new upgraded PWA??,  one more issue regarding this is that if don't keep the same PWA name and i open the project site and click on the "Project web app" back link, it
redirects me to old PWA site which doesn't exist and give me page not found error (Obviously).
Below, you can see the both scenarios.
my previous PWA 2007 site, say  - http://epm2007:2222/PWA
When  -  migrated PWA 2010 site, say  - http://epm2010:3000/NewPWA    (Bulk project site update just doesn't work)
When -  migrated PWA 2010 site, say  - http://epm2010:2222/PWA    (Bulk project site update worked)
Whats the solution of this problem. is there any utility or query to link all project sites correctly?
Will i face the same problem while migrating PS 2010 to PS 2013??
    Thank you.
    sandeep

    Hi,
I would say it is easier to keep the same PWA name between 2007 and 2010 (no need to have the same port).
If you want to move to a new PWA URL maybe you can use stsadm backup/restore as detailed in this article?

    Hope this helps

  • SPAM rules on Inbox after migration from Exchange 2003 - GFI Mail Essentials

    Hello,
Few times ago, we had an Exchange 2003 server with mailboxes which were configured with "rulemgmt.exe" tool (from Microsoft ?) to manage users mailboxes and SPAM redirection in these mailboxes.
GFI MailEssentials (antispam) was installed on a mail relay and once a SPAM was detected, it was redirected in Inbox/SPAM folder on user mailbox thanks to the rule defined by "rulemgmt.exe".
Recently, we did a migration from Exchange 2003 to 2010. Unfortunately, "rulemgmt.exe" doesn't work anymore on Exchange 2010 and it's replaced by a "Transport Rule" which works fine but only to redirect SPAMs in Junk e-mail folder. However,
if I don't set up this transport rule, SPAM redirection still works from mailboxes which were created on Exchange 2003 and e-mails go to Inbox/SPAM as before... For new mailboxes on Exchange 2010, it doesn't work which is normal.
My question is: for old mailboxes from Exchange 2003, where are the SPAM redirection (Inbox/SPAM) information stored? I don't understand how SPAM can be redirected if the information is not stored in Exchange...
The aim is to use Junk E-mail folder with the Transport Rule at the end everywhere and to clean old rules used for Inbox/SPAM.
I contact GFI support but they couldn't help me.
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    DeltaSM

Those old mailboxes probably have old rules still set.  You can use the Outlook.exe /cleanrules switch to purge those old rules.  This would require that you create an outlook profile for each of those impacted mailboxes.
You can also look at using MFCMapi -
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2860406/en-us
When that is done, you might want to perform a Clean-MailboxDatabase and then look at the mailbox rules (get-inboxrule).  If that does not work for you, could be something else within the mailbox and as such, I would recommend working with MS to get
    more info.

  • Migrating from Exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 ( special case )

    Hello ,
what is the BEST scenario ( fastest , most efficient , most secure in terms of data loss )  , to migrate from exchange 2007 ( one server , all exchange roles installed on this server , 1200 mailbox ) , to exchange 2013 ?
knowing my environment needs to be connected to their mailboxes , 24/7 !
    it's very frustrating .
and i have no clue even if this is the right place to post about this , if not please refer me as to where to post .
Also , All my domain controllers are 2008 .

It's fine to post your question here, and you are fine with Server 2008 Domain Controllers - that is a supported scenario.
If you haven't performed such an upgrade and you need to have 24/7 mailbox availability, I would seriously recommend you to duplicate the production environment on a test network and run through the upgrade at least once.
Most people neglect the Outlook clients requirements - they need to be updated and include several specific updates, which allow the automatic reconfiguration of internal clients. If you are preparing for this upgrade, you should be aware that all internal
Outlook clients switch to Outlook Anywhere. Clients that miss these updates will get connectivity problems.
Another common problem is the configuration of the Exchange URL - I mean the Exchange 2013 URL and the modified Exchange 2007 URL that will allow the co-existence. In your case, you definitely need to plan for co-existence - that includes requesting and
installing a new Exchange UCC (Multiple Domain Certificate) on both Exchange servers, configuring Split DNS (or preferably PinPoint DNS zones), and correct timing when replacing the existing Certificate on the Exchange 2007 server. Failure to configure the
correct URL (and it's quite easy to miss one, so triple check them) will get you in trouble.
Once you get through the switchover (switching the mail flow and Client Access through the Exchange 2013 server), move just a couple of test mailboxes and check the result.
Finally, if you are moving the Public Folders, make sure that the lock is really applied before you complete the process. Most people proceed right away and that get's the process stuck. If you can afford it (the mailboxes are already on the Exchange 2013
server at that point), just restart the Exchange 2007 server (after locking the Public Folders) and then complete the Public Folder migration.
    Good Luck with the project!

  • How to migrate from exchange 2007 to 2013 step by step tutorials please

    Hi
I am running Windows Server 2008 standard, with exchange 2007 SP2 on it.
We have 800 mailbox in total
    Our domain controllers are
Win2012 R2 and I would like to upgrade to Exchange 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2.
I am running a VM, on VMware environment, so my Windows 2012 R2 is a VM.
Is there a website or document that explains in detail, step by step how to upgrade from 2007 to 2013.
I currently only have 1 exchange server 2007, with all the roles on the one server.  I would like to keep that same as
    well with exchange 2013.
    Thanks

Exchange server deployment assistant is always a good service provider to achieve this task as it simply ask few questions about your current environment and proceed further accordingly.
You can refer to this blog explained by technet team that will assist you further to gather more information in depth : http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/07/25/part-1-step-by-step-exchange-2007-to-2013-migration.aspx
Moreover, to avoid the interruptions and proceed a hassle-free migration from exchange 2007 to 2013, this application (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) could also be a good approach to accomplish
migration task in more secure way.
