A MacBook Pro as an e-book reader

I did it: http://www.geocities.com/coqui_mi/Immag020.jpg , after having rotated the pdf page 90 degrees clockwise.
Any contraindication or damage risk?

I'd be concerned about the stress you are probably putting on the hinge and the LCD. The stress on the LCD doesn't have to be terribly great for it to start showing up as odd colors and luminesces. Rather than take a risk with such an expensive piece of equipment, consider other options.

  • How do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?

how do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?
I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life"  i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???
    Help
    Karen

I had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud.  I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop.  I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud.  Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook.  The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself.  I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
    I feel empowered!!
    Have i missed anything??

  • In my macbook pro hdmi, usb & SD card reader not working

In my macbook pro hdmi, usb & sc card reader not working.
i have tried the SRM reset done, till not working started.
Could you please resolve this problem,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply take it to an Apple Store or reseller if it's in warranty. Your Mac will be repaired or replaced for free because it looks a hardware problem rather than a software issue.
If it's not in warranty, hold Command and R keys while your MacBook is starting up, and reinstall OS X. If it doesn't work, you can't do much more to solve the problem

  • My Macbook Pro can't detect or read my CDFS file system external HDD

My Macbook Pro can't detect or read my CDFS file system external HDD

Open Disk Utility and see if the USB drives show in there. If they don't then it is a USB port or bus problem. If they do show in disk utility are they formatted in either Mac extended or a Windows format?

  • I am thinking of being a new macbook pro with retina but after reading the problems with overheating would i be better of buying a dell ??

i am thinking of buying a macbook pro retina 15 but after reading reports of this overheating am i better of buying a dell ?? i already have a imac that has started to overheat when put to sleep unless i close safari down.

Good grief no. I've just done a consulting job that involved Dells, and if you think there are some issues with Apple, wait until you try to deal with Dell. The tech support is awful, they transfer you 4 times then hang up. The product is marginal at best. Google that if you want confirmation.
While Apple machines have had some issues on specific models, for the most part my experience has been very favorable. Especially if you have Applecare. Take the computer in if you have a problem and let the Genius Bar fix it for you.
Your "overheating" issues are probably due to something like Flash running in the background, which just continues to grow in size and suck up machine resources the longer it's on.

  • I in stalled Keynote 5.2 on MacBook Pro but it won't read older Keynote 2.0 files. Is this expected, meaning I have to use old software only to present these files?

I do not know, but it sure is expected- macs never back-compatible.

  • 2011 Macbook Pro 13" & WD My Book Essential 2TB USB 3.0.

    Hi
I have a Macbook pro 13" that I bought in Late 2011. I just bought a WD My Book Essential 2 TB USB 3.0 External Hard drive, but its not unmounting/reformatting? Have I made a huge mistake in buying the hard drive??!
    Thanks

Does this model externally enclosed USB 3.0 HDD require a power adapter, or does it run using port power from the computer?
For whatever reason, it would appear that this drive incorrectly 'unmounts' when the computer goes to sleep; so perhaps the lack of port power or connection to a live port, implies the same thing as an unplugged memory media.
Do you have a powered USB hub? Is the 'WD My Book' self-powered with its own mains power adapter?
I'd see about getting a FireWire or Thunderbolt external drive for a backup, with power adapter, and check into detail concerning brand and controller chipset in such a device. There are some fairly nice ones I've seen at OWC otherworldcomputing online, they have what appears to be good Mac compatible hardware; according to other user experiences. The OWC storage options have a variety of port compatibility.
    {Previous experience with WD in Macintosh, also Kingston RAM in Macintosh, keep me clear of them. No matter of how great others may find them now. I've fixed too many issues based on low-end parts.}
To get a better configuration of hard disk drive, enclosure, & connection-type is recommended. I've used self-powered FireWire400/800 externally enclosed HDDs with oxford-type chipsets as a preference. Now there are other options, though and a few faster ones entice to match up with newer expectation.
Not sure if this helps much...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT204347 I need to find out what is wrong with my Macbook Pro. I have Adobe Reader installed on it and Adobe Flashplayer installed on it. I am not able to do anything with either of these programs, no videos, printing certificates, etc.

I have adobe reader installed on my Macbook Pro and also Adobe flashplayer installed. I am not anble to see any video from the net, news feeds, or anything like that on my computer. I cannot print off certificates that I need all it does when I attempt to print the certificate is that it shows that it is loading and comes back and tells me there was an error in loading the information. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

  • I have connected an external hard drive to my new macbook pro.  I only have read access.  How do I copy folders to the external hard drive?

I have a new Macbook pro retina.  I have connected a WD external hard drive, but have only read access.  I want to back up my computer, and have the ability to archaive files.  Any suggestions?

I have connected a WD external hard drive, but have only read access.
As ds store already pointed out, if the drive is formatted as NTFS, you can't write to it. Fortunately, the fix is easy, just erase the hard drive using Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I want to back up my computer, and have the ability to archaive files.  Any suggestions?
Backups and archival backups are not necessarily the same thing. An archival backup is to be kept indefinitely far into the future, and should never be changed after it is created. That does not mesh well with being on the same drive as a backup maintained day-to-day. Ideally, archival backups should be written to one drive - possibly multiple backups, but each one should never be touched after it is written - and other backups should be maintained with greater frequency on one or more other drives.
You can get a bit of compromise with an incremental backup, like what Time Machine does. That will keep old data as long as there's still free space on the drive, then will start removing the oldest copies of files to make space for newer stuff when necessary. Another alternative is the way Carbon Copy Cloner does incremental backups, where the data keeps piling up until the drive is full and then the backups fail until you remedy the situation. (This could allow you to fill up a drive and then put it on a shelf as an archival backup and start a new backup on a new drive.)
If you can specify more what you want to do, we can advise you better.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro make every flash drive read only?

Anybody else having this problem? I can write to a flash drive once on my Macbook Pro. After I remove it, it becomes read-only, but only on my Macbook (I still have read/write access on other computers). Happens with every flash drive, regardless of brand or size. File systems are all FAT 32.

I'd make a sound too if i was put into a bag haha.
Only thing i could think of it it has a mind of its own or your putting your computer to sleep. Try shutting down your mac before placing in your bag and see if that changes things.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot up. read error 0x7  failes to load a number of drivers?

    Dear All,
Lately I am having quite a bit of trouble with my Late 2011 MacBook Pro. It seems to be stuck in a vicious circle of boot-ups.
Since a couple of days it is taking ages (like 5 min) to boot up, and today it just doesn't get to te "user-screen" anymore.
I have tried to boot it in safe-mode and tried to enter the repair utility, but those don't seem to work.
When I tried booting it in single-user mode, it told me it had "read error 0x7" and it fails to load a whole number of drives.
When I run a Fysical System Check, it tells me the Macintosh HD can not verified?
What can I possibly do to get back in there again? are all my documents lost?

This may work if the drive is OK. If it's accessible but corrupted try the second procedure.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
And, it neither work consider my original suggestion.
