A question to SessionCreationInfo produced by perfdump in Sun Web Proxy 406

I have enabled perfdump function in Sun Web Proxy 406, and it's real helpful to me. But I find the "Total Sessions Created" in SessionCreationInfo table always increases, see below info:
SessionCreationInfo:
Active Sessions 29
Keep-Alive Sessions 0
Total Sessions Created 188/256
Is this right? or what's wrong with my perfdump? I think it should show the current sessions created, in above situation, it should be 48/256. Or the "total sessions created" is actually 188, if it's true, I think it is not good to create the "historical maximum" sessions since the load is low.

Hi,
When you say "the remote server is receiving the client ip" where is this being recorded?
As you stated from an IP point of view the proxy connects using it's own IP address. It can forward the client IP
address.
See "http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21692_01/821-1882/adylz/index.html
Maybe that option is turned on. The proxy forwards the client IP as a HTTP header, (Client-ip is the default name) .

Russell

  • Newbie Question--EJB 3.0/JPA deployment to Sun AS 9.0 not working

    I am new to EJB 3.0 and JPA technologies, so please excuse me for asking such a rudimentary question.
    I am developing a simple Java EE application running on Sun Application Server version 9.0.01, buuild b02-p01. I used the windows installer to set everything up for the server. I am using JDK 1.6.0.02
    I am using Eclipse Europa to develop the application. I have an Enteripse application that includes a EJB project and a Web project. I am using ANT to build the application. In the Web project I have placed an index.html file to ensure I can hit the web application berfore I go any farther. The web project has two servlets. In one servlet, I called the Remote Interface for the EJB and performed some operation. This reference is made using annotations. The EJB project has developed several persistence classes and one EJB with a Remote interface. Everything seems to be building correctly. I have used annotations to handle the EJB and Entity portion of the EJB project.
    When I deploy the application to the application server, I see no errors in the server log. As a matter of fact, the log file states the ear deployed correctly. When I go look at the admin console, I am not seeing any errors either.
    In my my-ejb-jar file I do not include a sun-ejb-jar.xml and the war file does not include a sun-web.xml. The sun-application.xml is not in the ear file. The ear file has the application.xml, The sever is generating the ejb-jar.xml from the annotations and creating the JNDI tree. The war file has the web.xml file.
    When trying http://localhost:7182/MyWebContext/index.html for hitting the Web container using my IE 6.0 browser I receive this:
    I am not geeting any errors from this URL.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

    Check the property names for configuring TopLink's internal connection pool. All of the JDBC property names should be prefixed with toplink.
    Refer to the TopLink JPA extensions guide for more information.

  • Best Practices Question: How to send error message to SSHR web page.

    Best Practices Question: How to send error message to SSHR web page from custom PL\SQL procedure called by SSHR workflow.
    For the Manager Self-Service application we’ve copied various workflows which were modified to meet business needs. Part of this exercise was creating custom PL\SQL Package Procedures that would gather details on the WF using them on custom notification sent by the WF.
    What I’m looking for is if/when the PL\SQL procedure errors, how does one send an failure message back and display it on the SS Page?
    Writing information into a log or table at the database level works for trouble-shooting, but we’re looking for something that will provide the end-user with an intelligent message that the workflow has failed.
    Thanks ahead of time for your responses.
    Rich

    We have implemented the same kind of requirement long back.
    We have defined our PL/SQL procedures with two OUT parameters
    1) Result Type (S:Success, E:Error)
    2) Result Message
    In the PL/SQL procedure we always use below construct when we want to raise any message
    hr_utility.set_message(APPL_NO, 'FND_MESSAGE_NAME');
    hr_utility.raise_error;
    In Exception block we write below( in successful case we just set the p_result_flag := 'S';)
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN APP_EXCEPTION.APPLICATION_EXCEPTION THEN
    p_result_flag := 'E';
    p_result_message := hr_utility.get_message;
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    p_result_flag := 'E';
    p_result_message := hr_utility.get_message;
    fnd_message.set_name('PER','FFU10_GENERAL_ORACLE_ERROR');
    fnd_message.set_token('2',substr(sqlerrm,1,200));
    fnd_msg_pub.add;
    p_result_message := fnd_msg_pub.get_detail;
    After executing the PL/SQL in java
    We have written some thing similar to
    orclStmt.execute();
    OAExceptionUtils.checkErrors (txn);
    String resultFlag = orclStmt.getString(provide the resultflag bind no);
    if ("E".equalsIgnoreCase(resultFlag)){
    String resultMessage = orclStmt.getString(provide the resultMessage bind no);
    orclStmt.close();
    throw new OAException(resultMessage, OAException.ERROR);
    It safely shows the message to the user with all the data in the page.
    We have been using this construct for a long time for all our projects. They are all working as expected.
    Regards,
    Peddi.

  • Questions on LDAP Realm on different versions of Web Logic

    Kaia,
    I need you to ask JOS / BEA Systems some questions on LDAP
    Integration. I have CC'd Randy and Todd in case they have any
    feedback on this area. I have read the documentation and have
    a
    couple of simple questions. The questions differ depending on
    the version (because the documentation is different):
    4.5 SP7
    Users and groups are cached in the WebLogic Server as Enterprise
    Java Beans. This reduces the frequency of LDAP lookups
    Exactly what is cached? Is authentication carried out against
    the Directory each time, or against the cached credentials? Is
    this configurable such that an authentication attempt is sent to
    the LDAP server each time? Just a suggestion - LDAP lookups are
    very "light" and caching them in this fashion is not a good
    idea. Let the LDAP Directory do the caching.
    The "system" user must be defined in the weblogic.properties
    file and in your LDAP server. The LDAP "system" user must be a
    member of the LDAP group that has administrative privileges in
    the LDAP server
    Does this really mean that the user ID in the LDAP server
    called "system" needs to have full control over the entire
    directory??
    In the WebLogic property file realm, the "everyone" group
    automatically includes all users. You must create an "everyone"
    group and add every WebLogic Server user to its membership list,
    including the "guest" and "system" users.
    Does this really mean that I need to create a group in the LDAP
    directory called "Everyone" and keep it updated with every user
    object in the Directory that we want to authorize using weblogic
    ACL's?
    5.1 Pre SP7
    The property:
    weblogic.security.ldaprealm.userAuthentication
    The description for this in the docs is:
    This property determines the method for authenticating users. If
    you set the property to local (appropriate for Netscape and
    Microsoft servers), LDAPRealm retrieves user data, including
    password, from the LDAP server and checks the password in
    WebLogic Server. If you set the value to external (appropriate
    for Novell NDS), LDAPRealm authenticates a user by attempting to
    bind to the LDAP server with the username and password supplied
    by the WebLogic client. If you use external authentication, you
    must also use SSL
    The way I read this is that if you have local set, the Weblogic
    Server retrieves the entire user credentials from the LDAP
    Directory, and compares the password with what the user passes
    in. If you have external set, weblogic does a bind on your
    behalf - however, you need to have SSL configured for this
    option to be implemented.
    However, in the example for an NDS server, the following is
    listed:
    weblogic.security.ldaprealm.userAuthentication=bind
    What is the bind option referring to?
    5.1 SP 7
    This version makes no reference whatsoever to the
    userAuthentication property above. Has it disappeared? What is
    the authentication method used now?
    6.0
    The documentation below:
    Table 12-10 LDAP Security Realm Fields on the Users Tab
    Field
    Description
    User Authentication
    Determines the method for authenticating Users. Set this field
    to one of the following values:
    Local specifies that the LDAP Security realm retrieves user
    data, including the password from the LDAP Directory server, and
    checks the password in WebLogic Server. The Local setting is
    appropriate for Netscape Directory Server and Microsoft Site
    Server.
    External specifies that the LDAP Security realm authenticates a
    User by attempting to bind to the LDAP Directory server with the
    username and password supplied by the WebLogic Server client. If
    you choose the External setting, you must also use the SSL
    protocol. The External setting is appropriate for Novell NDS.
    Bind
    Note that there is a reference to Bind, but no description for
    what it is supposed to do. So, what is it supposed to do. Also
    a follow up question - This field is not referenced in
    documentation for 5.1 SP7, so I was curious as to whether this
    will also be dropped in future service packs under 6.0, and if
    so, what the authentication process will then be.
    regards,
    Craig Gilmour

    CC 2014 should be the latest version.  You can uninstall any others if you choose to.

  • Question about file size when using "Export for Web"

    Hi!
    I created a .mov file and worked to get a great balance between file size and quality so that I could deliver it via the web and make it easier for end users to see the video on a slower connection.
    My question: When I use "Export for Web," my .mov file is converted into a very large .m4v file--more than double the size of the original file. I know that this export option is to optimize the file for a wide variety of users/internet speeds. Am I correct in guessing that the end size is not an issue? I would post the .mov file instead, but I really like the option of embedding into a html page along with the "click to play" option.
    Bottom line--is it better to post the smaller .mov file that i originally started with or to go ahead and link to the bigger .m4v file that was created with the "Export for Web" option?

    "Export for Web" is a feature of QuickTime Pro and it makes 4 files and the html page code for easy copy/paste Web page editing.
    The very first file is called a "reference movie" and it links to the other 3 files (56kbps, 900kbps and 1.5Mbps). It, and the page code, "read" the connection speed of the viewing hardware and "serve up" the correct file based on that connection speed.
    In nearly all cases the "Desktop" version would still be smaller in file size than the original source. The times the file would "increase" in file size would be when an already compressed was used as the source file. You can find out more about your source file by opening it in QuickTime Player and viewing the Movie Inspector window information.
    There are dozens of other html "tricks" that could be used if your source file is already compressed but you want a different display size:
    Page code to show "aspect" or scale="tofit". This code allows values "outside" of those found in the actual QuickTime file be used for the Web page display. A 320X240 QuickTime .mov file looks pretty good at double size (640X480) but the file size would still be that of the source file.
    "Poster Movie" is another html trick that loads the Web based file directly in the QuickTime Player application (bypassing Web page layout restrictions). These files are also known as "Presentation Movies".
    Another method is the QuickTime Media Link file (.qtl). These are simple text based files that are used as a "direct link". These use simple XML (Extensible Markup Language) and are easily created in any text editing application. The simple syntax has amazing control over a simple QuickTime .mov file. You can launch (and quit) the QuickTime Player, display at other dimensions and even embed "links" inside the display.
    Some of my files as examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/ a "Poster Movie" style.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.qtl
    A QuickTime Media Link file. A tiny file should download to the viewing machine, launch QuickTime Player, present the movie and it even includes a "link" to my Web page.
    Edit: It appears you must now double click the .qtl download to launch QuickTime.

  • Follow up to web services question:  How do I expose java components as web services on iPlanet 6.0 app server?

    My task - my company has several legacy PowerBuilder applications that access a variety of Sybase and MS SQL databases. Rather than re-inventing the wheel by re-writing these applications in Java, we would like to enable these applications to call java components (EJBs) that will provide new functionality. I would need a piece of software called CSXtend (from www.cynergysystems.com) to allow PowerBuilder to call a web service. However, I am not sure how to expose my business functions (EJBs) as web services on the iPlanet 6.0 App server. Thanks for all previous responses! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! Mike

    I have used Glue (http://www.themindelectric.com/products/glue/glue.html) to expose some of our stuff as Web Services. I recently found this on serverside. It's pretty good.
    http://www.theserverside.com/resources/article.jsp?l=Systinet-web-services-part-1
    I believe that the middleware they use can be plugged into IPlanet. There is also an article in the knowledge base on the IPlanet site.

  • Sun Web Server 6 to 7 Command Line Migration - Syntax Question

    I have used the GUI-based migration tool in a development environment and it works flawlessly. However, in prod environments I cannot use the GUI as a matter of policy. In reading the 6x to 7x migration guide, the following example is included for command-line based migrations:
    wadm> migrate-server [--user=admin-user] [--passwordfile=*admin-pswd-file*][--host=admin-host][--port=admin-port][--no-ssl][--rcfile=*rcfile*][--echo][--no-prompt][--verbose][--search-collection-copy-path=directory][--log-dir=directory]([--all|[--config=newconfigname[--instance=instancename]) --server-root=path
    In looking at my 6 and 7 web server instances, I cannot locate a password file or the rcfile. Is the password file optional? Do you have to create one or does the server generate this for you? Also, what is the rcfile and where would I find it?
    Thanks!

    As a rule, any option mentioned b/w [ and ] is optional.
    Both password-file and rcfile are provided to avoid any prompts by the CLI.
    For example if the password-file is provided (with the passwords) then the CLI will not prompt for the passwords. If not, the CLI will prompt for passwords.
    In the rcfile you may set variables for path to the password file, user name, standard option values like config name, vs name, etc.
    Find more details in http://blogs.sun.com/yamini/entry/starting_off_with_web_server.

  • Stupid question but how do I get my mac web page to extend the first page?

    sorry about the ignorance... i'm sure it will be simple. but I want to have a long page rather than many seperate ones on my opening web page, and I don't seem to be able to extend one.... it just goes to the end of the first page and stops. and I want to be able to just navigate down for a 'longer page' if you see what I mean. is there a trick?

    Hi,
    The length of the page adjusts itself to the length of the main textbox on that page. Thus while you write the page the length will adjust itself.
    However it's not recommended to make such a long page due to loading times especially if there is a big amount of graphics.

  • OSB question : passing a user defined transport header to a proxy service

    Hi All,
    I have a proxy service that calls another proxy service. The protocol for the "called proxy service" is set to local. The calling proxy service has a "transport header" action to add a user defined header to the outbound request.
    I log the outbound request in the calling proxy service before publishing/calling the other proxy service. It does have header set as expected. But the called proxy service does not get this header.

  • Upgrade question (iPlanet Web Proxy Server)

    Hello List,
    What is the procedure for upgrading iPlanet Web Proxy Server 3.6 (beta)
    to iPlanet Web Proxy Server 3.6 on Solaris 2.8?
    Thank you in advance.
    - Andrew Petrov.

    Hi
    This as per the HTTP/1.1 RFC (RFC2616)
    The Connection general-header field allows the sender to specify options that are desired for that particular connection and MUST NOT be communicated by proxies over further connections.
    The Connection header has the following grammar:
    Connection = "Connection" ":" 1#(connection-token)
    connection-token = token
    HTTP/1.1 proxies MUST parse the Connection header field before a message is forwarded and, for each connection-token in this field, remove any header field(s) from the message with the same name as the connection-token. Connection options are signaled by the presence of a connection-token in the Connection header field, not by any corresponding additional header field(s), since the additional header field may not be sent if there are no parameters associated with that connection option.

  • Dumb newbie question - where do I download com.sun.web.me.*?

    Hi,
    I am new to j2me programming & have just started developing apps for mobile phones. So far so good, I have Netbeans 5.5.1 with the mobility pack and have created a couple of Midlets already. To braoden my knowledge, I have downloaded a coupe of samples from https://meapplicationdevelopers.dev.java.net/ but when I try and build them, I get errors regarding the import of classes com.sun.me.web.*
    Where/how can I download & install these libraries for use in Netbeans 5.5.1?
    Many thanks
    Chris

    Thanks for the response,
    I have serached my computer for anything that looks like it might contain the required libraries, but top no avail
    My code has the following lines which the compiler objects to:
    import com.sun.me.web.path.Result;
    import com.sun.me.web.path.ResultException;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.Arg;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.ProgressInputStream;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.ProgressListener;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.Request;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.RequestListener;
    import com.sun.me.web.request.Response;
    so any help on where I might find them would be appreciated

  • Question about the java files which created by Web Dynpro

    After I create a new project under Web Dynpro, there is no any java file is generated.
    Now I create a new application in the project with the following names:
    application name: QuizApp
    package name: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.tutorials.quiz
    component name: QuizComp
    window name: Quiz
    view name: WelcomeView.
    Now, 5 java files are generated under the package:
    QuizComp.java,
    WelcomeView.java,
    QuizCompInterface.java,
    QuizInterfaceView.java
    QuizCompInterfaceCfg.java
    Can someone tell me what do these file mean? For what purpose?

    1)QuizComp.java -
      this is the source file for whatever you code inside the Component Controller ,
    2)WelcomeView.java -
    you get one java file for each view you create,
    3)QuizCompInterface.java -
    represents the public "face" of your component. If this webdynpro DC is used by another DC, the other DC can only "see" the methods present in this java class
    4)QuizInterfaceView.java    -
    this is to represent your view assembly (window and any views as part of it) when you want to embed UI of this DC in another DC
    5)QuizCompInterfaceCfg.java -
    (advanced concept)
    P.S: A java file is created for each Custom controller you create also. And many other classes get created too (which probably you dont need to bother about) but they require for WebDynpro concept to function properly i.e a framework
    Hope that clears things.
    Regards,
    Rajit

  • Question on Sun Directory Proxy Server 5.2.4

    Hello Guys,
    Is it a good idea to have DPS and DS on the same server? Did anyone run into any issues? We have four Sun DS servers four-way master replicated on Windows 2003 std. We are in the process of evaluating Sun Directory Proxy server to resolve single point of failure between our custom apps and LDAP servers. I would appreciate any insights on Sun DPS implementation on Windows 2003 Std.
    Thanks

    While it might not be too good an idea (you essentially want the DPS for load balancing AND failover, right? So why risk putting it on the same machine ;) ), it does work.
    I recently implemented DPS on Solaris, and things generally work fine. (The command line interface isn't too reliable though). If you are thinking of routing all your traffic over SSL (ie, Client---ssl--->DPS---ssl--->DS), make sure you apply the latest patch available for the DPS. The dps524.jar that comes with the default installer isn't what it used to be (JES 2005Q4), and will give you issues when configuring SSL for DPS. Apart from that, things are more or less a breeze.
