A simple question?? Which OS X for Indigo iBook

Hi
I have two Indigo iBooks G3/366 Firewire and what I would like to know is 'What is the best version of OS X to put on these." One is running OSX 10.4.11 with 576K memory and the other is running OS9 with 320k memory.
Regards

Honestly, i recommend to install both (10.4 and 9.2) on one partition.
Tiger if you want to use the recent software versions, and OS 9 for historical purposes and fast running word processors, youtube videos, OS9 games....
If you like to play around you may install two additional products on your partition:
- try an older Virtual PC Version (Ver. 2.1 up to Ver. 5) that often were bundled with Windows 98
- or Virtual Game Station if you want to play Playstation 1 games

These are discontinued products which you will find from time to time on ebay.

  • Simple Question: How to search for a date value in SELECT

Probabily a simple question, but in a SELECT statement, how do you do a search for a date value in the WHERE clause?
    example:
    Select * From Example
    Where date = 01/01/2001
I know its not as simple as that, but what change has to occur to make it do what that example implies?
    Thanks In Advance.

If you want to avoid the conversion part(to_date) you will need to specify the date in the format as ur nls date format.so the same query might not work if you change ur nls date format.
so it is advisable to give it in general format.
    ie where date_col=to_date(01-01-2000,'dd-mm-yyyy')

Not necessarily. I have one (in the "Pro" line) without any such problem.
With many drives, if you completely erase and reformat it, without loading any of the software that comes with it, those problems are unlikely.
Some will respond to the +Put the hard disk(s) to sleep . . .+ option in System Preferences > Energy Saver, some don't.
Some WDs, however, come with "spin down" programming that's near-impossible to remove.
Well it was certainly the case on 3 FreeAgent drives that I know of, and it was a well known problem that Seagate did nothing about. The drives would spin-down after a short time and cause a fairly long delay anytime drive access was needed. This was a hardware issue and nothing to do with the disk format. seagate provided drive manager software for Windows but not Mac.
I suppose the issue has been resolved in later drives but the point is not to assume that any old external drive is suitable for use with OS X.

  • Simple Question: Which version of 9iAS to use for test deployment?

Being new to all this, I want to deploy a JAVA - BI Beans thin-client JSP application. Due to disk and memory limitations on my laptop, I want to install a much smaller version of 9iAS (instead of full EE version).
My question is, Can I just install 9iAS Java Edition on my laptop and then deploy the JAVA-BI Beans thin client JSP application to the installed 9iAS Java Edition?
    OR
Is there any version smaller than 9iAS Java Edition (with OC4J) where I can deploy the Java application that I can use to save disk and memory on my laptop?
    - Nasar

adding just a little to the excellent summary:
oc4j has a small http listener included as well, so in fact it can be seen as a http server as well.
webcache is a smart caching tool, including in oracles application servers with the goal to optimize and maximize web site through put, by caching whole or parts of webpages: this is usefull if the webpages generate a lot of traffic and load on the backend database/content managment/etc servers

  • Simple question; Mac Server Setup for Mail, iCal and Address Book Services.

    Hi Guys;
I'm new to the Mac Server world and need a few questions answered.
I have purchased a new Mac mini Server for hosting File, Web, Mail, iCal and Address Book Services.
I’m comfortable setting up File and Web Services however I’m a bit uneasy setting up Mail, iCal and Address Book services to be access locally and remotely(via the internet).
    My current setup is;
Internet connection (Dynamic IP) -> Router -> Mac mini Server.
I have purchased a domain name (Thornton-net.com) from DynDns.com + a custom DNS service as I can setup my router to update my domain’s IP address automatically.
I can access File and Web Services remotely (thortnon-net.com) perfectly without any issues via the Port Forwarding feature of the Router.
If I setup Mail, iCal and Address Book Services -> will Mail, iCal and Address Book clients be able to access these services hosted by the server via Thornton-net.com?

    Welcome to the forums.
For mail services (and specifically for your outbound mail to be accepted by other mail servers) your mail server needs to have a static IP address and matching forward and reverse and MX records, or a tunnel to a static IP (with matching DNS), or you need another mail server where you have an authorized relay. Without that, your mail will be considered a spam engine, and dropped.
Additionally, your particular tier of service with your ISP (with a static IP) will generally allow server-oriented access and server-oriented network traffic, where a residential or other tier of service (with a dynamic IP addresses) can be firewalled.
The ISP controls the "high ground" of the network connections here, so you pretty much get to play by their rules and requirements. If they don't offer static IP, then (presuming their T&Cs permit it) you get to tunnel (via IPv6, for instance) to a tunnel broker, and receive your network traffic via that (and with matching DNS) point of presence. That could well be a tunnel for your mail at whichever your DNS provider is here, because you'll have issues with your dynamic address. (You get to sort out if they offer that.)
Far and away the easiest approach (if you want to host this stuff yourself) is to work with the ISP. They're inherently involved in your network, and they and they alone have full control over your reverse DNS configuration.

  • Simple Question?? Hope for answer..

I was in another area within the Airport forum when I came across a very interesting question and thought.
"If 500GB HD hooked up via USB to a Airport Extreme has connection issues then what makes me believe the TimeCapsule will not have issues too?"
The problem here is that the Airport Extreme (N) is having some major issues with HD access through it's USB. Is it just a USB thing in the Airport Extreme? I have had issues with single and multiple users losing connections when accessing the HD drive on the Airport Extreme. The HD never sleeps and is always spinning. Apple has not fixed those issues as I, and others have seen.
Is the TimeCapsule different? I thought it was a N-draft with a built in hard drive? Does it have different hardware/software?
I am looking for answers because I received none at MacWorld '08 and will NOT buy the TC if it has the same problems as the Airport Extreme (N).
    Thanks.

Keep in mind that this is not a shipping product, so no one outside of Apple has had an opportunity to test it and answer your question "does it have the same problems as the Airport Extreme N".
Speculative answer - Apple has managed to solve the issues through a combination of (a) improved firmware, (b) using a direct interface to the drive rather than going through USB, (c) standardizing the hard drive make/model, and (d) standardizing the drive formatting. I suspect many users problems with use of their own hard drives and the Airport Extreme N stem from "issues" involving (b), (c), and (d).

  • Simple Question - Cisco Unified CallConnector for Microsoft Windows

Can anyone tell me if Unified Call Connector works with UCM or just Express? This is something we would be interested in if it could work with our current setup.
    Will rate Post.

    Hi!
No, it does not work with CUCM, it works with express only. Please refer to the data sheet below:

  • Manual For Indigo iBook

Does anyone know how I might obtain a manual (online or physical) for an Indigo 366/iBook? The only original iBook manual I can find here is the one for the original blueberry and tangerine iBooks.

    Rick,
For technical details online see this site.
Here is the upgrade guide for the 'Paris' clamshells.
If you want the full technical manual; click here.
I can't find an electronic copy of the consumer-level manual though. Personally I don't thing you're missing anything. These manuals assist you in connecting the power supply and switching the Mac on and little more.
(I have the sales spec sheet in PDF form - I downloaded this just before I ordered my iBook 466 back in 2000 - if you want I'll email it to you.)

  • Which DVD writer for 12" iBook?

    Hi,
I'm after a DVD writer to use with my iBook G4 1.33Ghz 12". Can anyone recommend any brands that work particuarly well with an iBook?
At the moment I am leaning towards either a LaCie external writer or a Pioneer or NEC internal unit, placed inside a Firewire enclosure. Are these good choices?
Also, I've noticed that newer DVD writers have a SATA rather than ATAPI interface - will either work with my iBook?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Fungolo, Welcome to the discussion area!
A SATA drive will not work internally on the iBook.
If you get an external FireWire enclosure for a SATA drive, it will work with your iBook.
ATAPI is just another termo for ATA.

    Hi Eric !
If I understand your question correctly, you are trying to
create a table and then trying to access it in some form or in
some report. Right ? If yes then below is the answer...
You can create the table in the database using your login id and
password and then use the same login id and password in the
forms/report and you will see that table in the data block
wizard. (you can see other users tables also if you check the
option of other users also in the data block wizard.)

  • Need a simple answer for simple question???

simple question... what is the best way to export my fce movie and burn it on idvd for the best quality for genaral use ... sd..4x3 ratio tv.. lots of ken burn effects on photos... lots of sd video... ???
not so simple answer... i have read manuals.. apple discussions.. etc etc my eyes are blurry.. i have been exporting out of fce to qk time movie, then import to idvd and burn..
i get lots of wavy or jitter when doing kens burn effects on photos.. i have been told that 1 field must be missing.. and its better to take the qk time movie convert it again making sure hi quality is checked(movie properties 720 x 480) and self contained movie, then import to imovie ver 5.02 which has better codecs then to idvd ... an apple store tech said..
then another apple store tech said...dv pro or dv stream or interlaced or on and on and on
its not 16x9, or for the web or anything but simply burn it and give it to my grandma to play in a standard dvd player.. best quality.. period.. i know it won't any better than my source video but the wavy photos bother me..
    help

The Apple store tech told you garbage. The quality will be the same. It's using the same QuickTime engine. There may be a difference because going through iMovie will go through a file conversion and the picture might be softened a little, which will mitigated this flicker you see.
The wavy photos can be a lot of things, most likely due to the nature of the images themselves and the movements you've done on them. What often works on still images is to apply a one pixel vertical motion blur in an application like Photoshop or Elements. This helps to reduce interlace flicker on motion when the material is brought into a video editing application.

  • Simple question .... how to add photos to the body of my EMAILS -Found 1000 results for How do I add photos to my emails for Thunderbird

Simple question - How do I add photos to the body of my emails . But instead of the answer - Found 1000 results for How do I add photos to my emails for Thunderbird. There are answers that don't apply at all to the question in anyway. Why does it have to be so hard to get a simple answer to a simple question?
Thunderbird is acting much like Microsoft, the every reason I dumping MS Live Mail.

First of all, much help for Thunderbird refers to menus which may not be visible. It would help you and us if you have your menus and toolbars visible.
    http://chrisramsden.vfast.co.uk/13_Menus_in_Thunderbird.html
So, open a write window. Enable its menu and toolbar(s).
Now do you see an "Insert" option?
If not, you may be set to compose in plain text, which does not support embedded images.
'''[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac Tools|Account Settings]|{select account}|Composition & Addressing''' and ensure "Compose messages in HTML format" is ticked. If it wasn't already ticked, go back to composing a message. Any better now?
Once you have HTML composition mode going, you can use '''Insert|Image''' or various permutations of copy-and-paste and drag-and-drop into your message body.
    A manual, of sorts: http://en.flossmanuals.net/thunderbird/composing-messages/

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
    good luck
