PSE 5.0 Organizer malfunction

Today, out of the blue, PSE would not lauch at all. Eventually I was able to get the Editor to launch, but not the Organizer. I can now get the organizer to launch through the Editor, but only if I hold down the control key and create a new catalog. I can add pictures to the new catalog and that one opens fine, but when I try to open My Catalog (the one I really need) it hangs up and just sits there spinning its wheels! What the heck am I missing or doing wrong. I have spent hours on this and while I made some progress, have now hit a complete wall. Please help...arrrgggg!

Every time I use PSE 10 to organize my photos, it says it has encountered a problem and has to close.  How can I reinstall it without going to a newer version?

Generate another of those errors, and click the "Click here" link in the error message box.
What modname and modver do you see for the error? (Precise spelling, please.)
If the error is a BEX and you thus aren't seeing a modname or modver, let us know what P1 through P9 items are being listed for the error.

  • PSE 9.0 Organizer (+8.0) multi screen

My PC has a normal display connected as main-screen (screen 1) and a 50" TV as secondary screen (screen 2) (connected via HDMI).
Running PSEO on this computer I cannot display pictures on screen 2. I can drag the PSEO app to screen 2, but as soon as I press the display full screen function, it appears on the main screen. The app is stil running on screen 2, but full screen pictures appear on screen 1.
Other apps runs fine on setup like this. F.ex. Running the MS Media player on screen 2, and then starting a Movie, everything works fine. It stays on screen 2, and maximises on screen 2.
How do I (or Adobe?) fix this?

My main reason for testing PSE-O 9.0 was to find out if this "bug" was fixed. I can not use PSE-O to organize and show pictures the way I want to with this weaknes in place. Your answer is probably correct, bun not at all helpfull.
So thank you for trying, but my test of PSE O is over for now.
Does anybody out there know of other products that will do the trick?

  • PSE 8.0 : Organizer application was closed unexpectedly

    Hello,
I use PSE 4.0 on Windows XP SP3 to manage more than 64,000 photos
Since I have over 60000 pictures, I have many crashes of PSE 4.0.
    So I downloaded PSE 8.0.
    I have 3 environments photos:
1: All the photos (about 64,000 photos)
      2: Tests (approximately 1,300 photos)
      3: Archives (about 1,700 photos)
The conversion of the catalog "Tests" was conducted smoothly and response times are ok: open PSE 8.0 and display 1,300 thumbnails by 8 seconds, development or reduction of a category in less than a second, memory occupancy below 15% in searches.
The conversion of the catalog "Archives" was performed without problem, but PSE 8.0 was closed during the generation of thumbnails with the message: "Adobe has detected that the Elements Organizer application was closed unexpectedly" with a fault report that I sent to Adobe (no response to date after more than a week).
I restarted Organizer and it ended well.
But now the response times are extremely long: open PSE 8.0 and display of the 1700 thumbnails in 58 seconds, development or reduction of a category in 15 seconds, memory occupancy above 95% constantly.
By viewing the Windows Task Manager, I noticed that the Organizer has almost 100% of memory when it is open and it takes about 1 minute after closing the display PSE.
I deleted the catalog, uninstalled and reinstalled PSE 8.0, and make a new conversion with always the same crash.
I deleted all the photos of catalog, keeping only the tags (about 1,700), with always the same crash : do I have too many tags ?
Someone had already this problem ?
    Thank you for your responses.

Ok for the « normal » trial message, allthough …
    A couple of thoughts :
    - I waited 12 to 18 hours to finish generating the thumbnails.
    - All the auto-analyzer and automatic people recognition are disabled
    - I’ve discovered in “pse-conversion-log_Photos.txt” 4 messages : “logic_error, unable to reorder version set” with versions stacks. So, I’ve suppressed the 4 photos concerned (poison files ?) in the versions stacks of PSE 4.0 and I will convert my catalog another time.
    - With every crash, a file log is generated, that I send to Adobe, as asked. I attach to this message file "Adobe8 crash1.doc" which contains a copy of the message display Adobe and content of the file generated after 6 hours 30 of thumbnails generation.
Thank you again for your interest in my problem.

  • PSE 8.0 Organizer will not load

I have been using PSE 8.0 for a few months and now the Organizer will not load.....I just get a message that the program is not responding. In fact, the
only way to get to the Editor is to right click on a pictue file and open it in PSE Editor since the PSE Welcome screen is even grayed out and does not allow me to click on Organize or Edit.
I recently max'd out my online storage capacity but can not even delete files from the Catalog because the Organizer will not work.
I have tried de-installing and installing PSE but the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

It’s Adobe’s cunning way of getting you to purchase more storage.
Try logging in to Photoshop.com and see if you can delete photos on-line. That might do the trick!

  • WIN/Vista, PSE 7.0:  Organizer problems with dates

Im working with our scanned photos now, so there is no EXIF data and the only dates are the scanned date and any later corrections in Photoshop CS3 before or after importing into PSE 7.0. I now have two date related problems that I didnt have with PE 5.0.
    1) In the Organizer view, when I right click on the date to bring up the Adjust Date and Time screen, then click on Change to a specified date and time and click OK the day automatically changes to a day earlier, which has caused much confusion since all I am wanting to do is set a time to sequence photos from multiple cameras. How do I keep it from automatically changing the date?
    2) Also, Ive had multiple times that Ive changed the date on a couple of photos and PSE 7 will place them incorrectly so that they are non-chronological. Specifically I now have two photos from a string of many on Dec 24 & 25, and some on Dec 26 and after. These two photos belong on Dec 26 chronologically, as well as where they fit in my file naming system. If I change the date on these to 12/26/1976, though, they are placed in my 12/25/1976 photos, not 12/26 where they should be. I have another photo dated 1/17/1977 that PSE has placed between 1/16 and 1/9/1977.
I thought these were quirky enough that I actually removed and reinstalled PSE 7.0, but these issues are unchanged.
    FYI: Settings in Edit>Preferences:
General/Display Options/Date (Newest First): Show Newest First within Each Day is selected
Files/File Options: Use Last Modified Date if EXIF . . . is unchecked.

    > In the Organizer view, when I right click on the date to bring up the "Adjust Date and Time" screen, then click on "Change to a specified date and time" and click "OK" the day automatically changes to a day earlier, which has caused much confusion since all I am wanting to do is set a time to sequence photos from multiple cameras. How do I keep it from automatically changing the date?
When a photo has a date but unknown time, PSE 6 and 7 (and perhaps 5 too) behave this way. Its a bug thats been reported to Adobe.
    > 2) Also, I've had multiple times that I've changed the date on a couple of photos and PSE 7 will place them incorrectly so that they are non-chronological. When this happens, which view are you in? Display > Thumbnail View or Display > Folder Location view? Is this using Smart Albums to search by date? If this is still happening, can you upload a screen shot, the incorrect 12/26/1976 photo, and the adjacent 12/25/1976 photo? You can post these for free at www.pixentral.com. Ill take a look at their metadata.
There are a number of problems with time unknown, so Ive stopped using it:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b6aaa0
    In particular:
    - Search with date ranges doesnt properly handle time unknown.
    - Other tools, such as Vista Explorer, dont correctly handle dates with time unknown in metadata written by PSE.
    - If you have a series of slides youve scanned, you know their relative time ordering (due to the slide numbering) but not their absolute time. Theres no convenient way of preserving that ordering within PSE thumbnail view if you use time unknown.
So instead of unknown, I assign the times 12:00 AM, 12:05 AM, 12:10 AM, etc. (leaving gaps in case I need to insert another scan later).

  • PSE 10 both Organizer and Editor crash on multi-core hardware; set affinity to single cpu mode fixes

As I have noted in thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/941128 I have found that both the editor and the organizer for PSE 10 crash in a multi core environment, I am running WIndows 64 bit, latest updates (includes sp1), I had the same problems with Windows 7 32 bit.
Solution is to set the affinity to a single cpu.  From the task manager, select the 'processes' tab, find the exe (eg PhotoshopElementsOrganizer), right-click, select 'Set affinity...' and reduce the number of CPUs selected (checked) to exactly one.  (Under different versions of Windows the exact means for doing this varies, but the essential steps are the same).  It doesn't matter which cpu you select, but if you do both the Editor and the Organizer, put them on different CPUs.
Given that pretty well all hardware these days is multi-core, my assumption is that Adobe test in a virtualized environment and so do not discover this type of unreliabillity.  Adobe really do need to test their software more thoroughly as the exact same problem existed in PSE 6, so it is hardly new to them.

The solution is in the above.
Should Adobe read this, they should take note that a virtualized environment does not provide a decent fidelity emulation of multi-core CPU systems.  The ONLY way to test the reliability of an application is on REAL hardware.

  • PSE Elements 9 organizer problen

I have just installed PSE 9 on a Vista machine, and am having a lot of trouble getting the organizer to run. The welcome screen also does not run. I can get the editor to run by going into the x86 folder and executing the editor directly. From there if I try to get to the organizer, the programm crashes with the message " PSE Elements has stopped working" The same error occurs if I try to execute the welcoe screen from the editor. The first time I installed PSE (9 it worked fine and contonued for about a week. Then the error occurred.I have even gone so far as to reinstall Vista, and itran for about a week again, and then crashed with the same message Details on the crash list APPCRASH, with the faulting module AMTSERVICES.DLL I have installed PSE9 about 10 times under various configurations, but no success. I have seen many references regarding this problem, but none seem to offer a real solution.
I would like to thank anyony in advance for any help they may offer.

    Hello,
AMTServices.dll has to do with product licensing. It would be very strange if licensing causing an issue with the Organizer or the Welcome Screen. However, I would suggest that system security is the most likely culprit here, whether anti-virus, disk permissions, or some other form of system protection that is limiting what the application can do when attempting to launch. You may want to try things like disabling all background processes and/or running in a new user account (you may find with this second step that you again can use the application for a short time before the problem returns). The question remains "What is changing that is causing the application to stop working?"

  • PSE 9 (Win7) Organizer won't "copy" when adding images from network

First, bringing images into PSE 9 Organizer works as expected from cameras, memory cards, etc. The file is copied from the original source onto the drive with the catalog.
But, I simply cannot get a file "copied" from its original location when bringing it into the PSE 9 catalog under Windows 7 (64-bit) if the source location is on another computer "seen" via Windows Homegroup network.
I do the following from the Organizer:
    1) File-Get Photos and Videos-From Files and Folders
    2) I browse to the Homegroup folder that has the file, and highlight it. (By the way, it takes several attempts of moving the mouse over the file name before the preview appears and the file is actually selected.)
    3) At this point I would expect the "Copy Files on Import" option to be available, but it is greyed-out and not checkable.
    4) If I select Open or Get Media, the file does go into the Organizer, but the file location is still the Homegroup network drive. As soon as the source computer is off-line, the Organizer link is lost, and I can't use the file.
Why is the "Copy Files on Import" option never available??
    Here's what it looks like:

What I am trying to do is to use Organizer to centralize, on one hard drive, images from various other computers in my Windows 7 Homegroup that may or may not be on when I need the images. A thumbnail in the Organizer that points to an offline source is not terribly useful.
My problem could be fixed, as well as the overall usefulness of Organizer improved, by the simple enabling of the copy option even when another harddrive or network drive is the source. In this way, both the "always-on" and "never-on" situations could be accommodated.
My solution was to copy the files in question to an SD card, walk the card over to my main computer, and then bring them into the catalog (which actually copies the files to the hard drive, which was my objective in the first place).

  • PSE 9.0 Organizer does not recognize iPhoto

I purchased PSE 9.0 the other day and after I loaded it on my iMac (running OSX 10.6.5) I tried to use Organizer to import photo's into it. WHen I select "Get Files/From iPhoto" from the menu bar I get an error message that says  "There is no media to import from your iPhoto"  But the problem is there is. I have 100's of pics in iPhoto. iPhoto works and the folder for iPhoto is there.  So what am I doing wrong?

The easiest thing is to use the iphoto export command to send the photos to the desktop, then put them where you want to keep them, then use File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders.
As an aside, you don't want to use both iphoto and organizer to manage your photos, since that causes much confusion and duplication of efforts, since the two programs essentially serve the same basic function. If you're thinking about switching to organizer, I would make a small test catalog first and try that a while to see how it works for you.
EDIT Just checking: You do know you can still use iphoto as your photo management program with PSE? Just set up the PSE  editor as your  external editor in the iphoto prefs and send your photos from iphoto.

  • PSE 3.0 Organizer Not Responding

Have been using Photoshop Elements 3.0 for several years. Suddenly the organizer won't open to display photos. I have at least 2,000 photos but thought the organizer would handle unlimited number. This is the first time I've had a problem and only use PSE to organize my photos and do some minor editing. This old lady would greatly appreciate any ideas!!

Does clicking Conrtol+1 help you? Let me know if it helps. Please make sure that your catalog is same as the one where you imported your media.

  • PSE 8.0 Organizer wont start

When the PES 8.0 "Organizer" button is selected from teh start menu, the program ends. It can open from the 'Edit' screen, but many photo thumnails will not show.
I have uninstalled / reinstalled with no improvement
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks for the respone - when I click on the 'organizer button' from the initial menu, the organizer app begins to start up but quickly will shut down the entire program.
On thumbnails, there are some that never render - it could be a matter of very large files as you mention. This a signifigant issue though as I rarely get that far into the program without the shutdown mentioned above!! I sometimes can access organizer from inside of the edit portion of the PSE application.
PSE has been working for several months as it should. I did load "AVG Tune Up" (part of the AVG anti-virus software family), but wouldn't think that the functions of that application would have any impact on PSE.
    Thoughts appreciated!!!!

  • If removing PSE-9 will Organizer actions stay in old version?

I want to give the trial version of PSE-9 a try to see if printer issues I have with PSE-8s orginizer have been fixed.  If I use the organizer to inport and tag photos then decided to remove PSE-9 a month later and go back to using version 8 will the actions (and photos imported) taken in version 9 still be there in 8?

    Thank you,
That is exactly what I wanted to know.  I just got PSE-8 about 3 weeks ago with a new printer so wasn't too keen on upgrading so soon.  I had a little trouble with PSE-8s print dialoge boxes so wanted to see if PSE-9 had the same problem and wanted to be able to go back if I decided to.

  • PSE 3.0 Organizer

    Hi Forum

  • Sort by name view in PSE 9 Mac Organizer?

Is there an option or workaround for the Organizer to sort and display by the file name in the Organizer included in Photoshop Elements for Mac version 9? I would appreciate any tips!

Thanks for voicing your displeasure with Adobe over Mac (and I assume Windows) version 9 organizer not being able to sort by file name.  I agree that it is an unacceptable omission, especially since almost every editor and organizer has this feature including Adobe's Bridge that came with PhotoShop Elements 6 for Mac.
I'm still trying to find the "make a suggestion" form to voice the same displeasure. Windows, and to a lesser extent the Mac OS, has a serious issue in my opinion in that almost any editing, copying, etc. changes at least the file modification date if not the creation date. The EXIF date might stay the same but I've not yet found how to copy that to the creation date in edited PSE9 files. Of course, the movies don't have an EXIF code to use.
My solution to this shortcoming is to first do a simple import from the camera into a computer folder and then immediately rename the photos and videos to a file name that includes the date and time from the creation date.  The format I use is --YYMMDD HHMM ### Text-- where the time is 24 hour clock, the ### is the last three digits of the file name the camera created (useful for matching with the original camera file and also differentiates rapid snap photos with the same creation time), and short event text tacked on the end (examples: 101125 1548 642 Oak Ridge.mov & 101125 2035 656 Oak Ridge.jpg). I can now sort the photos and video together in preferred true chronological order regardless of how much the file dates change due to editing. I typically want to combine items from multiple cameras that may have been modified by different editors on different dates into a single slideshow or movie that is sorted automatically by file name into chronological order (but nice to have manual reordering override on selected items when desired). I use and recommend "A Better Finder Rename 8" software to rename the files quickly after import. This software has simple multi-step actions that can be set up once to do the renaming.
Of course all this scheming is null and void if you CAN'T SORT BY FILE NAME!!
I think my goals are simple and typical, but my decades long search for photo and video editors that do what I want has not ended yet. I was hoping that PSE9/PRE9 might be that solution but maybe not if they won't let me sort by file name. The program that comes the closest is Picasa but it has too many bugs and limitations to be the final solution.
Mac's iPhoto/iMovie are nice and I've used them extensively but their integration of photos and video requires too many manual steps.
So what is it I want? I'm shooting intermixed photos and video mostly on cameras that have HD video capability. I want to import them, do some simple editing, add some titles or captions and occasionally voice annotations, and throw in a little background music at low levels (need good ducking for the video). I'd like to do this all in one editor (or organizer?) that can output (keeping them in chronological order by file name) to movies, DVDs, web posting, prints, and export edited photos for archive.  PIcasa can do this and despite its current issues and limitations should be a model of photo/video/production integration for all editors in my opinion.
What I don't want--or need--is the fancy organizers that seem to be the rage these days. There may be a few people that must be able to instantly find and pull up uncle Charlie with a toothache from 30 years ago.  I am not that person. I don't want to build and maintain a cross-indexed library of every video and photo I ever took. I don't need to apply automatic face recognition to every photo I ever took just because I can. For me, the organizer and editors are temporary holding places until I can generate the output products (edited movies, slideshows, edited photos, web posting, prints).  Once these products are created and archived to off-line storage, the photos and videos will be deleted from the computer and the organizer database. I rarely have time or inclination to use old archived material. My off-line archives are stored as simple folders by year with subfolders by date with a short subject in the folder and file name. Modern photo browsers allow me to quickly enough find what I want with that stored information to meet my occasional needs.
