A88XM-E35 dedicated GPU issue

The system runs fine when no dedicated video card is plugged into the PCIe x16 slot. When I plug the video card in there is no video and the system does not boot. After pulling the video card out, I need to clear CMOS in order to get video again.
I have tried two different video cards, one of which is known to work.

I Also have the same problem. When I put in the discreet video card (R7 260X) there is no video output but the video card fan is spinning. then I will remove the video card and reset the bios and go on-board video then the system will boot. I already checked the BIOS settings and PEG is my initial display which as I understand is the discreet graphics card. am I missing something here in the BIOS settings or the motherboard PCI-E slot is not functioning. any advice will do..
Thanks in advance!

  • A88XM-E35 and PC1866 memory issues

Hi, I’m having a problem with my MSI A88XM-E35 motherboard.
The system doesn’t boot at all when I install PC3-14900 (1866) memory.
    The memory kit in question:
    8GB KIT Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1866 CL10 1.5v
I’ve tried with two different 1866 sets just to be sure the kit isn’t broken.
Doesn’t boot either with only one module installed.
The system does boot and works with:
    8GB KIT Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1600 CL9 1.5v
I’m running the latest BIOS (v30.3) with an AMD A10-6800K.
    PSU: Corsair VS350
I've already emailed USReview and their answer is to check the memory support list.
But there's only three 1866 modules listed on that list, of which two are Micron.
Crucial being a subsidiary of Micron only uses Micron memory chips.
I would say that if you only claim to support such a narrow selection of 1866 modules then you can’t claim 1866 support at all.
I'm building computers for decades and I never had to check any memory support list as long as I used quality memory.
Has anyone had success with any 1866 modules on this board?
I think it's pretty obvious that this board needs a serious BIOS update.

    I have exactly the same issue, a78M-e35 with 2x4gb ballistix 1866 CL10 && AMD A8 6600K
Memtest86 5.01 gives lots of errors when RAM freq is at 1866 in BIOS
Lowering it to 1600 => no error at all
Passed that test in an asrock mb at 1866 with no errors
I reflashed bios (last one in MSI A78M-e35 d/l page) with no results
Any other thing I could try?
    thanks in advance

  • Photoshop CC 2014.2.1 not detecting my dedicated GPU

When I open Photoshop, I get the following error message:
"3D features require a minimum of 512MB of vRAM. Photoshop has detected less than that on your system.
Updating the driver of your graphics card may resolve the issue."
I am running a laptop PC with an integrated graphics card (Intel HD4600) and a dedicated Nvidia GTX 675M with 2 GB of vRAM.
I switch between the two adapters with the press of a single button, for power-saving purposes.
I always run at high-performance with the dedicated GPU active when running Photoshop.
I run the latest driver from Nvidia, and in the Nvidia control panel I manually set the preferences for Photoshop to utilize the dedicated GPU. But it still does not detect my main graphics adapter.
I checked the system information in Photoshop and cannot make sense of it. Why would it be unable to detect the GPU when every GPU demanding software I have run so far (a lot) have been able to..
I have checked google and the very forums and found the problem in various forms with no real solution for it so far. Hopefully someone on these forums can help, considering I am paying a monthly fee for the program and the support that comes with it

    Thanks for the quick response!
But as mentioned in my initial post, I deactivate the integrated graphics adapter when using Photoshop, or any software that demands decent graphical processing power.
I only have it activated when in power-saving mode. And of course I update to the newest display drivers via the GeForce Experience or through their website.
Point is, I have never had any problems with any software whatsoever in detecting the proper GPU and utilizing it's power. The only software unable to register my dedicated video card is Photoshop.

  • Confused Between Buying 15" rMBP with Dedicated GPU or Integrated ?

    Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy my first ever Retina Macbook Pro 15 Inch.  And I need some suggestions, It is my first ever Mac Book in my life so I am pretty excited and anxious about it. But I am in a dilemma should I go for the Dedicated Graphic Card Model or Should I go for the Integrated Graphic Model. No, It is not for the Extra Storage Space on the SSD that I am contemplating to buy the Dedicated Graphic Card Model but more for the Dedicated Graphic Card.
I am gonna be using this for my Personal Use Heavy Web Surfing, Lots of Flash Video watching, Movies, Music, Occasional Gaming (I am not a Gaming Freak) But I do occasionally like to play some most talked about, popular game so I don’t want my machine to restrain me for any reason. So this is my Requirement.
Now I have heard stories about the Dedicated GPU Model which is not good as in firstly I will tell you what my experience is I used to have a Sony Vaio till sometime back with a NVIDIA Dedicated 128 MB Graphic Card, after using it well for 5 and half years one fine day it failed, and subsequently it also corrupted the Display and wont let the OS Boot up. When I took it to the service guys they said, this is a very common phenomenon that we are coming across with Machine which Have NVIDIA Graphic Cards, apparently they seem to be running some problems NVIDIA doesn’t seem to making it well in terms of longevity. Steer Clear from Machines which use it. So what even if it is the Famous Macbook.
If I am spending this amount of money I am atleast looking for the MAC to be going for till about atleast 6-7 Years. And there is where my apprehension comes in the words of my service guys that Please stay away from NVIDIA Enabled Machine if you can.
I have heard some guys tell me that well, even though modern GPUs run much cooler than before. It's just that there's been a lot of failures with dedicated GPUs in the past and there have been seldom a failure with integrated graphics. If you want your machine to last a long time,  We would recommend the Iris Pro one over the 750M one. You don't need to spend the extra on the 750M model. It's not going to benefit you. For most things, the Iris Pro performs the same as the 750M.
As far as gaming is concerned, one can play any game the 750M can, but may have to lower a couple of settings for some of them. If the DGPU failed, it would do exactly what happened with the Vaio. No reason really to assume that's going to happen but it is very much possible with a DGPU Model. The Iris Pro model is far less likely to fail in that way.
Before Iris Pro, One would have been against Intel graphics as they were too slow. Iris Pro is the first Intel graphics chip to hold up against dedicated GPUs.
It's important to remember that some of the NVidia GPUs from 2008 were defective, mostly the 8600M but some 9600M too. If you have a Retina Macbook Pro with a dedicated GPU, that's more likely to be problematic than Intel's integrated graphics. There have been hardly any issues with integrated graphics chips dying
Dedicated GPUs tend to be more powerful but they've always been less reliable. That's not to say they all fail, they just happen to have a higher rate of failure.
    8600M, 9600M, 6970M, 6750M, 6490M, X1900XT, X1600, I think some old 7500 or 9200 too, all had issues.
I've never heard of an integrated graphics failure.
In the near future, Integrated graphics would be a better option for most people. Iris Pro is very close to the 650M/750M.
These are the comments that I have heard so far about the DGPU model Peter ? What do you guys think ? what would you guys advise me ?
    Thanks !

Graphically intensive applications such as games. Some applications will turn it on just to improve graphic performance such as iPhoto. Having a dedicated card will have a higher resale value just because it has more hardware and better specs because of the additional card.

  • MSI gs70 dedicated gpu

    Hello everyone,
I have some trouble issues with my gpu. My system is all the time running on the nVidia gpu, instead of integrated intel. Even if I do not use software requiring high performance. The problem is, it eats my battery very fast. I had no problem like a week ago. When  I turned on some game or something like that, nvidia just turned on. When I finished gaming, nVidia just went off and intel turned on. Today this does not seem to work. How did I detect the nvidia is on ? On my notebook the powerbutton glow white color while integrated gpu is on, and orange color while dedicated gpu is on. I tried everything. I set integrated intel as prefered gpu in nvidia control panel, but nothing happened. I tried to set intel as prefered in every single installed program, but it did not help. I do not know what to do. Please help.

Orange light is not bugged. Last time I have running integrated gpu, battery lastet for 4 to 5 hours. Now, it can last max for 2 hours. I know integrated gpu is on for sure. I bought this laptop without OS, so I did installation of windows on my own. Everything seem to work like for one week. Then I turned some game on, and when I turned game off, the dedicated gpu was still active. The problem is, it was active even after restarting of computer. It seemed to be set to activate at the startup. About mounth later I was forced to reinstall OS because of some other reason. I reinstalled windows and everything was working again, until I turned some game. Since then dedicated gpu is on all the time. I want to know if there exist some possible fix. Reinstalling system is not a solution since I cannot start any game, unless this problem occur. I really do not know how to fix this. Reinstalling everything is just temporary solution.

  • A88XM-E35 and error 99 at boot

I’ve built a couple dozen of computers with the A88XM-E35 motherboard and I’ve noticed a recurring problem happening to all of them.
Something when you start (or restart) the computer, it gets stuck at boot with error 99.
There’s no rule in when it happens and it happens to all of them. Pressing the reset button fixes the problem.
Most of them use 8GB KIT Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1600 CL9 1.5v memory (but some also Value Crucial 1600 memory).
Some A8-6500 and some A10-6800K. Stock cooling.
All use a Corsair VS350 PSU.
Pretty annoying. Any idea what it might be?
It must be BIOS related considering a reset fixes the problem.

Okay Svet, this week I'll try it on my next build and see how it goes.
I need to add some information though.
The thing is that all these machines (20+) have this issue on my work bench but not a single client has called me back about this issue (maybe they are ignoring it).
Considering it's a Super IO Initialization problem, could it be related to my KVM switch or USB to PS2 converter?
Anyway, If it happens with the beta BIOS too, I'll take out the KVM switch and try without it.
I'll report back on how it goes.

  • Gx70 is not using its dedicated gpu

    Hello everyone,
A week ago i bought a msi gx70, it al works perfect except for one thing. When i start a game, the laptop is not using its dedicated gpu (amd hd 8970) but the gpu integrated in the processor ( amd 89650 )
I've tried a lot of stuff to fix this, like disabling the onboard gpu. When i disable the onboard gpu, the pc start using a microsoft basic render drive. I also tried to uninstalll both cards and reinstall them, not working. tried going into the bios, but there is now option for me to disable the onboard gpu there.
So please, i need help because it's getting pretty frustrating.
    Thanks in advance!

OP, please let us know if those worked or not. So that we can eiher continue to help, or if it worked reply with what you did to fix the matter. So that any other users experiencing the same issue, reading this, will know what to do.
    I will, but for the moment i can't :p
I gave it back to the shop to see if they can fix it and my laptop suddenly black screened after i updated the drivers. So i hope they can find some drivers where i can just manually disable the integrated gpu.
Also, when i was playing games the power button was orange if i remember correctly, but the game was still very laggy (about 40fps on smite, which is too low for this card) and in black ops ll the fps was really unstable (immense drops from 120 to 30) i think this also shouldn't be happening with this card right? And in games where you CAN manually pick the gpu, the dedicated one was just not given as an option. Also in benchmarks the dedicated card was noticed by the benchmark, but not used for some reason (having 20fps in a benchmark with this card at medium settings).
All this concludes for me that the dedicated gpu was not processing when ingame.
This is all the information i've gathered, if you have any other thoughts of what it could be, feel free to give them.

  • Making dedicated GPU primary

I was dissapointed with the performance of my laptop in San Andreas, an old game using directx9. After doing some searching, according to this article (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=c03048333), for some reason the laptop will use the APU instead of the dedicated GPU to run DX9 games. Is there any way for this to be changed? Could I use my R7 M260 to run DX9 programmes? I have already tried disabling the R5 graphics adaper from device manager and that prevents me from running the game. The BIOS settings for this laptop is very dissapointing with next to no configuration options. On a side note why is the BIOS very simple? Is there a way to get it to have more advanced options?

    Hi @Jersh
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand your concerns with the available BIOS settings, but unfortunately, this is a very common issue with a notebook BIOS, because of the nature and intent of most notebook designs. Most notebook manufacturers lock down the video and several other options in the BIOS to prevent the unit from being "bricked", due to the effects of excessive heat and overclocking. For normal operation and to preserve the battery, a multi GPU device will default to the integrated GPU, both for reduced heat and power consumption.

  • How do you check your dedicated GPU is working?

How do you check your dedicated GPU is working?
Some strange things have been happening since my MBP (2009, SSD, 8GB, 17") was updated to Lion:
    1. Icon images load slower than usual, e.g when opening the applications folder the images take a fraction longer than would be normal
    2. If re-naming a folder, you see the new title, then the old one, then it switched back to the new one.
    3. When playing HD video, or rapid desktop switching the picture looks split in two.
I checked that my GPU was on dedicated, but it had changed back to Intel integrated? Then a re-start and I checked it was on dedicated GPU, which it was BUT the above problems still remain.
Plugged in a 24" LED Display via display port and it does not come on - only the USB ports work. Does a display need a dedicated GPU to work?
Zapped Parameter Ram, rebuild permissions, and reset SMC all to no avail. Techtools pro 6.0 finds both cards but can't check them. I assume its not Lion compatible yet?
MBP is still under Apple Care, but I want to know if I can identify the problem is the NVIDA GPU. But how?

  • Photoshop CC(2014) is having "redraw" or video driver/GPU issues

Since upgrading my Mac to OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), after a working on a file or two, my photoshop image window looks like this:
This is a JPG, after I have opened a RAW file, with Camera Raw 8.7 beta (happened before the Camera Raw
update), and make my adjustments, and save.  Everything seems fine, the jpg preview looks fine, but after working
on about 3 images, EVERY jpg opens and looks something like this.  I can see parts of other recent images
in the garbage as well, and the image changes drastically when I zoom in and out.
I already posted to the Adobe forums, and someone suggested it might be a video driver/GPU issue with the new OS X.
    Any suggestion?

An Adobe employee in the online community had me turn off "Use Graphics Processor" in the photoshop/prefs/performance,
and that worked.  Not a total fix, since I can't use that now, and something is clearly not compatible, but at lease I can use
    Photoshop.

  • How to make a Mac use dedicated GPU in Windows

So I have this problem: when I launch games through Boot Camp on my late 2013 15 rmbp, I occasionally run into lags and frame drops in various games. The thing is, sometimes the same games run perfectly smooth with a decent frame rate, and sometimes the lags are so bad that it's almost impossible to play.
This makes me think that my Macbook is using the integrated Iris Pro gpu instead of dedicated 750m. So my question is, how can I force Windows to use dedicated graphics in games? In NVidia control panel, there's no option like Dynamic swithing.
P.S. I just reinstalled Boot Camp drivers using the WININSTALL drive, and checked NVidia website for updates

Furthermore, Boot Camp only uses the dedicated GPU because of problems related to GPU switching, so this is not the problem. Anyway, you can check which GPU Windows is using > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/video-cards-faq#1TC=windows-7
Have you checked if there is any app open while you are playing games and they do not run as smooth as you want to?

  • A8 5600K on A88XM-E35: high temperatures

Hi, I'm setting up a desktop pc with A8 5600K on A88XM-E35. On first run I entered BIOS and I found CPU temp. on 65 degrees (celsius).
The cooler is the original one (I'm going to buy a CoolerMaster TX3 or similar), but it's too high. I tried to set as off thermal control and I reached 57 / 58 degrees with 3100~ rpm (very noise). I tried also a 3 pin old cooler for amd2 and reached 53 degrees with 4700 ~ rpm (noisy like a jet plane).
I update the bios with 30.3 release.
I ask if, in your opinion, it's normal to have 65 degrees with standard cooler.
Thanx a lot for any answer.
    Paolo

It's normal for temp in BIOS to be higher while in BIOS and during POST especially with the rather small cooler like that. A CM 212 would be better than the TX3 and a Zalman 9900 would be even better but at a bit higher price. I've used all 3 and settled on the Zalman 9900 in the end. So far my CPU has never gone over 62C even under stress testing loads.
If you're in US or Canada I see it at newegg with a rebate so price would be very good at this time.
