Hi,
what is the error message reported on ACS?
Are you sure that you are using the same key on ACS and cat4k?
Can you configure "ip tacacs source-interface " with the vlan interface you are using as source?
You can also collect these debugs:
- deb aaa authentication
- deb tacacs

    hi all ,
I have some issue with supply power to cisco 2960-24TT-L switch. In my server farm rack is having DC current of -48V. But however cisco switch require 12V DC current.

How can I power on the switch using DC current ?  Is there any power converter which I can purchase ? your responses are very much.

  • VoIp settings for replacing a Cisco 3550 switch with a SF300-24P

I am adding the SF300-24P to an existing set of switches.  My backbone switch is a 3560.
The 3550 I am replacing has this config for each port that supports a Shoretel phone
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    mls qos trust dscp
    global settings include
    spaning-tree mode pvst
    spanning-tree extend system-id
    spanning-tree vlan 1,200 priority 28762
    vlan internal allocation policy ascending
all other settings are at default
Any ideas how to replicate this on this new switch?  I added the Shoretel mac address range (00-10-49) into the Telephone OUI.  The phone gets power, I think it gets a 192.168.6.x address (local subnet), but then it should get an IP 10.6.0.xx on its VLAN - but it doesn't.
Some configs from the backbone are attached.  I did not need to configure any of this in the 3550.
    Any ideas?
    Fred

    Hi fred,
The shoretel phone sounds like it is not attaching to tagged  vlan 200 on my switch, the shortel voice vlan as per your screen captures.
The Voice VLAN should be tagged on my switch so that phones attach to a Voice VLAN and PC's connected on the back of the VoIP phones attach to  the Data Vlan .
I scoped out, excuse the pun, the shoretel site and have attached a white paper on setting vlans and shoretel.
They mention setting option 156 on the DHCP server, so the phone can get vendor specific information etc...  But the phones are not attached to the voice vlan , but the untagged data vlan.  You gotta figure how to get the shortel phones to attach to vlan 200, or if you are not daisy chaining PC on the back of the phone, make vlan 200 untagged on these FastEthernet switch ports..
I have attached my SF300-48P version of my configuration and some configuration screen shots i took along the way.
Please review carefully that attached shortel document and my screen  shots and a real configuration done on my SF300-48P.  The configuration should be almost identical to your configuration.
I added vlan 200. and made sure that all ports were in trunk mode, even the Gigabit uplink ports.
All ports by default are in VLAN1  as you can see below
I then added all ports as tagged ports to vlan 200 as you can see below.
For the sake of Spanning tree, I then made all fast ethernet (phone or PC) ports  fastports except for the uplink Gigabit ports.
If you are not sure what portfast does , here's a little tutorial I grabbed from cisco.com
Spanning-tree PortFast causes a port to enter the spanning-tree forwarding state immediately, bypassing the listening and learning states. You can use PortFast on switch ports connected to a single workstation or server to allow those devices to connect to the network immediately, instead of waiting for the port to transition from the listening and learning states to the forwarding state.
Caution PortFast should be used only when connecting a single end station to a switch port. If you enable PortFast on a port connected to another networking device, such as a switch, you can create network loops.
When the switch powers up, or when a device is connected to a port, the port normally enters the spanning-tree listening state. When the forward delay timer expires, the port enters the learning state. When the forward delay timer expires a second time, the port is transitioned to the forwarding or blocking state.
When you enable PortFast on a port, the port is immediately and permanently transitioned to the spanning-tree forwarding state.
Your tasks I guess should be , making sure that vendor specific options for the shoretel phones are included in the DHCP configuration and that you somehow attach the shortel phones (even manually) to vlan 200.
For some reason this site adds a zip extension to the end of my running configuration.  I used wordpad to look at the file
I am using firmware version 1.0.0.27 on my unit and the userid=admin  password i used was admin
    I hope this helps.

  • Cisco IOS-XR with ACS

Hello, my question is if you have to configure the Cisco IOS-XR enabled router (it is a 12k series by-the-by) differently on the ACS side or is it added like any other normal router.

    hi raul,
the ios-xr router will act as a NAS for the ACS. so the configuration will the same as any other NAS on the ACS.

  • Apple wired Dot1X - on Cisco 2950 switches

Hi, I have an issue with Apple desktop computers running 10.7 and 10.8 MacOS.
The problem is that we have only 2950 switches and we are very limited with what we can do on them, so we wanted basic DOT1X user authentication and VLAN placement. Those two are working great, except when user logs off, Mac stops sending DOT1X and port becomes unauthenticated. We alleviated that issue by using guest-vlan for failed dot1x authentications, but now we have a problem that once user logs in, there is no session change on 2950 and it doesn’t even try to authenticate user until we bounce the port.
Is there any way to fix this, on Cisco switch or Mac computer? One of the things that crossed my mind is bouncing port on Mac PC using some kind of logon script?
Has anyone else had this issue and was able to solve it?
    Thanks.

    Hello Align,
Cisco 2950 switch with 12.1(9) supports 802.1 x authentications. As you are saying that you already configured 802.1x authentication and its working fine. I think there is problem with your MAC OS configuration. Please follow the below link to configure 802.1x on Apple.

  • Cisco 3548 Switch Failure

We have OpenVMS running on a Streams Environment OSI protocol connecting to a Cisco 3548 switch with fiber GBIC trunk ports. The ports display link lights, but network connection to a Windows NT 4.0 Server (Service Pack 6) with Allied Telesyn NICs (half-duplex) fails with LAN Connection Errors reported on DHCP Client Computers. However, when the Switch is bypassed, and directly connected to the Server, problem disappears. Do I have a duplex mismatch problem or IOS release issue?

You have to check to see how the switchports are configured , by default the speed is auto/auto , if the ports are hardcoded to a specific speed and duplex then you probably have a speed/duplex mismatch. Match both ends of the links , if nics are auto then the switchport should be auto . If the nics are hard set to a speed/duplex then you have to set the switchport the same.

  • LMS 3.2 - Problem with inventory of switches using AAA authentication

    Hi all,
we want to migrate our network equpiment from local authentication (telnet password, enable password) to AAA authentication (Cisco ACS server - username, password for priv level 15). The network devices are managed with CiscoWorks 3.2 and inventory works fine when device login credentials are telnet password, enable password.
I have configured a switch for testing the authentication to the ACS server, and tested the logon manually. After the successful test I reconfigured the device credentials in CiscoWorks and checked it by a device export with credentials. The credentials in CW were OK, but from this time CiscoWorks could't pull an inventory of the switch any more. Every inventory job failed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    fred

    Joe,
excuse me, I've made a mistake. It's the malfunction of the configuration *archiving* which depends on telnet services. I have included the trace file of the failed CW archiving job. I can see that CW receives the banner and the username prompt, but doesn't send back any telnet credentials. I have also checked the correctness of the device credentials by a DCR export.

  • AAA for Cisco MDS Switches

I have configured Cisco ACS 4.0 (TACACS) with Windows AD for all Cisco MDS switches and it is working fine. But local "admin" access to the Cisco MDS switches via telnet is not working. At the same time , if I create a user with "network-admin" role locally, that works but not the default admin user.
Could anyone help me in this regard.

    You have two options.
    1. Configure an "admin" user in AD. (note that you don't have to use the account named admin, you can just as easily assign a local user with the network-admin role). One thing to note, is that you normally use this local account in case the tacacs+ or radius authentication server goes down.
You can have users configured locally and AD at the same time. If you are running AAA the default config is to check your AAA servers first, if they are not available, then to default to a local account
    2. Configure your local network-admin role user and then specify that say console access is authenticated locally, while ssh and telnet is authenticated through tacacs. This will allow you to always get in with a local account through the console, while it will force SSH and Telnet connections to authenticate through the AAA servers.
You can find this option in Device Manager > Security > AAA > Applications

  • Cisco AAA authentication with windows radius server

    Cisco - Windows Radius problems
I need to created a limited access group through radius that I can have new network analysts log into
and not be able to commit changes or get into global config.
Here are my current radius settings
    aaa new-model
    aaa group server radius IAS
     server name something.corp
aaa authentication login USERS local group IAS
aaa authorization exec USERS local group IAS
    radius server something.corp
     address ipv4 1.1.1.1 auth-port 1812 acct-port 1813
     key mypassword
    line vty 0 4
     access-class 1 in
     exec-timeout 0 0
     authorization exec USERS
     logging synchronous
     login authentication USERS
     transport input ssh
When I log in to the switch, the radius server is passing the corrrect attriubute
    ***Jan 21 13:59:51.897: RADIUS:   Cisco AVpair       [1]   18  "shell:priv-lvl=7"
The switch is accepting it and putting you in the correct priv level.
    ***Radius-Test#sh priv
       Current privilege level is 7
I am not sure why it logs you in with the prompt for  privileged EXEC mode when
you are in priv level 7. This shows that even though it looks like your in priv exec
    mode, you are not.
    ***Radius-Test#sh run
                    ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
       Radius-Test#
Now this is where I am very lost.
I am in priv level 7, but as soon as I use the enable command It moves me up to 15, and that gives me access to
    global config mode.
    ***Radius-Test#enable
       Radius-Test#

Now it doesnt matter that I was given priv level 7 by radius because 'enable' put me into priv 15
    ***Radius-Test#sh priv
       Current privilege level is 15
       Radius-Test#
    I have tried to set
    ***privilege exec level 15 enable
It works and I am no longer able to use 'enable' when I am at prv level 7, but I also cannot get the commands they will need to work.
Even if I try to do
***privilege exec level 7 show running-config (or other variations)
It will allow you to type sh run without errors, but it doest actually run the command.
    What am I doing wrong?
I also want to get PKI working with radius.

I can run a test on my radius system, will report back accordingly, as it's a different server than where I am currently located.
Troubleshooting, have you deleted the certificate/network profile on the devices and started from scratch?

  • Cisco Nexus to use Radius AAA authentication using Microsoft 2008 NPS

    I have a Nexus 7010 running
Just wondering if you can help me with something. I'm having an issue with command authorization thru our aaa config. We don't have a problem authenticating its command authorization that is not working. From what I have seen and read Nexus NX-OS 6.x does not have any commands for aaa authorization unless you are configuring TACACS+. My basic config is below if you can help it would be much appreciated.
    >>ip radius source-interface mgmt 0
    >>radius-server key XXXXX
    >>radius-server host X.X.X.X key XXXXX authentication accounting
    >>radius-server host X.X.X.X key XXXXX authentication accounting aaa
    >>authentication login default group Radius_Group aaa authentication
    >>login console local aaa group server radius Radius_Group
    >>    server X.X.X.X
    >>    server X.X.X.X
    >>    source-interface mgmt0
Also does anyone know how to configure Microsoft 2008 NPS as a Raduis server to work with Nexus? I have read a few post that suggest changing the
shell:roles="vdc-admin" in the  Attribute Value field in the RADIUS server
Does anyone know if this works????
    Thanks

I have never done this before with ACS but not with NPS. However, you are in the right path. Nexus uses NX-OS which is different in some regards to regular IOS. One of those differences is the AAA setup. In NX-OS you assign users to roles. So for full access you will need to return the following attributes from your Radius server:
    Attribute: cisco-av-pair
    Requirement: Mandatory
    Value: shell:roles*"network-admin vdc-admin"
For more information take a look at this link:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/secure-access-control-system/115925-nexus-integration-acs-00.html
    Hope this helps

  • NAS configure with 2 ip address failed on AAA authentication

I have routers configured with 2 bvi interfaces for dlsw.
When I configure NAS setting with 2 ip address, sometime the AAA authentication failed to prompt for user authentication.
Should I used ip tacacs source-interface?
If I configure only one, if that interface is down, then I will not be authentication using AAA even the second bvi interface is up.

    Chee
The AAA server identifies the client by a single IP address and the client always needs to use that address as the source address. If you have 2 BVI interfaces it may be that sometimes the source address is one and sometimes the source address may be the other. That would account for the fact that sometimes it promts for user authentication and sometimes it does not prompt.
If using 1 BVI as the source address creates the potential that sometimes it might not work because that interface was down but the other BVI was up, then perhaps you should consider configuring a loopback address and using the loopback address as the source address. If the loopback was the source address then it would not matter which BVI might be up and which might be down.

    Hi experts,
I'm trying to stop the authentication retry for the guests. They won't have the credential to be authorzied and will be put in the guest VLAN. Soon I will have a Windows laptop plugged in. Then I will be able to run the wireshark. Now I have to run the "debug dot1x packets" since the attached device is a phone.

(Weird... why it's showing "success"? Anyway when the authentication restarts again after several minutes there won't be any "sucess" any more, as shown in my previous text file. They are)
