VoIp settings for replacing a Cisco 3550 switch with a SF300-24P

I am adding the SF300-24P to an existing set of switches.  My backbone switch is a 3560.
The 3550 I am replacing has this config for each port that supports a Shoretel phone
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
mls qos trust dscp
global settings include
spaning-tree mode pvst
spanning-tree extend system-id
spanning-tree vlan 1,200 priority 28762
vlan internal allocation policy ascending
all other settings are at default
Any ideas how to replicate this on this new switch?  I added the Shoretel mac address range (00-10-49) into the Telephone OUI.  The phone gets power, I think it gets a 192.168.6.x address (local subnet), but then it should get an IP 10.6.0.xx on its VLAN - but it doesn't.
Some configs from the backbone are attached.  I did not need to configure any of this in the 3550.
Any ideas?
Fred

Hi fred,
The shoretel phone sounds like it is not attaching to tagged  vlan 200 on my switch, the shortel voice vlan as per your screen captures.
The Voice VLAN should be tagged on my switch so that phones attach to a Voice VLAN and PC's connected on the back of the VoIP phones attach to  the Data Vlan .
I scoped out, excuse the pun, the shoretel site and have attached a white paper on setting vlans and shoretel.
They mention setting option 156 on the DHCP server, so the phone can get vendor specific information etc...  But the phones are not attached to the voice vlan , but the untagged data vlan.  You gotta figure how to get the shortel phones to attach to vlan 200, or if you are not daisy chaining PC on the back of the phone, make vlan 200 untagged on these FastEthernet switch ports..
I have attached my SF300-48P version of my configuration and some configuration screen shots i took along the way.
Please review carefully that attached shortel document and my screen  shots and a real configuration done on my SF300-48P.  The configuration should be almost identical to your configuration.
I added vlan 200. and made sure that all ports were in trunk mode, even the Gigabit uplink ports.
All ports by default are in VLAN1  as you can see below
I then added all ports as tagged ports to vlan 200 as you can see below.
For the sake of Spanning tree, I then made all fast ethernet (phone or PC) ports  fastports except for the uplink Gigabit ports.
If you are not sure what portfast does , here's a little tutorial I grabbed from cisco.com
Spanning-tree PortFast causes a port to enter the spanning-tree forwarding state immediately, bypassing the listening and learning states. You can use PortFast on switch ports connected to a single workstation or server to allow those devices to connect to the network immediately, instead of waiting for the port to transition from the listening and learning states to the forwarding state.
Caution PortFast should be used only when connecting a single end station to a switch port. If you enable PortFast on a port connected to another networking device, such as a switch, you can create network loops.
When the switch powers up, or when a device is connected to a port, the port normally enters the spanning-tree listening state. When the forward delay timer expires, the port enters the learning state. When the forward delay timer expires a second time, the port is transitioned to the forwarding or blocking state.
When you enable PortFast on a port, the port is immediately and permanently transitioned to the spanning-tree forwarding state.
Your tasks I guess should be , making sure that vendor specific options for the shoretel phones are included in the DHCP configuration and that you somehow attach the shortel phones (even manually) to vlan 200.
For some reason this site adds a zip extension to the end of my running configuration.  I used wordpad to look at the file
I am using firmware version 1.0.0.27 on my unit and the userid=admin  password i used was admin
I hope this helps.
regards Dave

  • Using Catalyst 3550 Switch with Linksys Home Router and Cable Internet

I've about pulled what little hair I have out of my head on this one, and need some configuration help.
I have a Cisco Catalyst 3550 switch with five Windows 7 desktops, an Avaya PBX and five Avaya IP phones attached.  All of these devices are on a 192.168.0.0/24 subnet, and are communicating properly.  I will refer to this as network # 1. I also have SEPARATE network, we'll call network # 2, using AT&T ADSL service and a Netgear 4-port/wireless router/ADSL modem combo device, which is functioning properly with a couple of other Windows 7 desktops over its own wired Ethernet network, using DHCP, and also on a 192.168.0.0/24 subnet.  I thought it would be a simple integration, just plugging one of the 3550's ports to one of the DSL router's ports, in order to give the five Windows 7 desktop computers on network # 1 internet access via the DSL modem. Guess I was wrong.  When I connect the two switches together, although I get a good connectivity (green lights on both ports) and am able to ping the DSL router's gateway address (192.168.0.252) from network # 1's computers, the computers on network # 1 cannot access the internet. Also, the working computers on network # 2 lose their internet access as long as the two switches are connected together. I am not a Cisco guru, but there's got to be a way to make this scenario work.  Can someone provide me with a 3550 configuration that will allow me to extend my internet service from network # 2 on the DSL router to my 3550 switch and their computers?  Here's what I am looking for:
INTERNET ---> ADSL MODEM ---> NETGEAR ROUTER ---> CISCO 3550 SWITCH ---> NETWORK DEVICES WITH INTERNET ACCESS

The Netgear router is probably what's doing the natting. Is the 3550 configured for routing or is it straight L2? If you have the 3550 configured as L3, then it's going to be easy to do what you want. Just add a static route on the Netgear to point the subnet that it doesn't know about to the 3550. For example, if the Netgear is addressed at 192.168.1.1 and the Cisco 3550 is addressed at 192.168.1.2, but it also knows about the 192.168.0.0/24 (separate vlan), then you would put a static route on your Netgear for 192.168.0.0/24 to go to 192.168.1.2.
The way that I would do it is to create a separate vlan on the 3550 and assign an address to it. Once you do that, make the port that the other switch connects to an access port of that vlan. (It would need to be on the same subnet as the existing equipment.) All of your devices would use it as a default gateway and then you would do the rest as above. You could also use RIP between the Netgear and Cisco if you can't do static routing.

  • Eigrp support for Vrf-lite on 3550 switches

    Folks,
Cisco has added support for EIGRP for Vrf-lite on Sup 720's and Metro 3750 swithches. Just curious if anyone knows timeline when Cisco would be doing the same for 3550 series switches.
    Thanks

No current plans at this time for EIGRP for Vrf-lite on 3550 since 3750 platform supports it. Contact your account team for feature request who can contact the business unit with a business case.

  • XCM Settings for IPC 6.0 to work with B2B ERP 6.0 E-commerce application

    Hi All,
We are currently implementing B2B ERP (ECC 6.0) E-commerce using IPC 6.0 for the sales pricing and configuration needs.
To make IPC work with B2B E-commerce application I need to do the necessary XCM settings for IPC. I launched the following URL to do the XCM settings for IPC.  http://<hostname>:<portnumber>/ipc/admin/xcm/init.do    I created a JCO connection with ECC system using the menupath Components->Customer->JCO and adding values to required fields such as Base Configuration (value: server_connect) , Server, Client, Message Server, Userid and Password.  I saved the configuration to create the necessary JCO connection with the ECC system. I executed the "Run Test" option and found the test to be successful.
To complete the Application Specific settings in XCM, I followed the menupath  'Application Configurations->SAP->erp' to create a new customer configuration. In the field JCODATA of the new configuration I added the JCO component name that was created in the previous step. I made this as the default configuration and saved it. The new configuration shows up under the sub-node Application Configurations->Customer-> 'New Configuration Name'.
Please let me know do I need to do any other XCM settings for IPC? Is there anything missing or need to be rectified? How I can test and make sure that IPC is connected to ECC and ERP E-commerce application and the connection is working fine. Please answer in detail.
    Thanks in advance.
    --R D

    Hi,
    Go to B2B XCM application : http://host:port/zb2b/admin/index.jsp
select "Extended Configuration Management (XCM) Administration"
then select your application configuration from the "Customer" node.
    Click on the "Display" button.
then maintain "ipcdata" parameter as what you have maintained in the IPC application.
    Thanks,
    Dinesh.

  • Deploying Settings for Creative Suite Products - network environment with redirected folders

Hi there.  We have some deployment questions regarding settings for the Adobe Master Collection.  Because we have redirected folders for my docs, etc., they are located on our file server for all of our users (school environment).  The problem is all Adobe programs default their save and caching locations to the my docs folder, which is on the server and causes slow downs and network traffic issues.  Is there a way to set these with a file or a deployment option, or what options do we have?

This stuff is stored in the prefs of the programs and unless you go in and change each of the prefs files there is no way to change this.

  • How to setup the trunk for private vlans across 2 switches (Both are SF300-24)

    Dear All,
    I have 2 switches which are SF300-24.
Switch 1 is connected to Internet Router for all clients on swith1 and switch 2.
The clients on switch 1 & switch 2 don’t communicate each other.
Port1~Port24 on switch 1 & switch 2 are isolated ports.
    Gigaport1 on switch1 is connected to gigaport1 on switch2.
Gigaport2 on switch2 is connected to Internet Router.
The VLAN 100 is for isolated ports.
    The native VLAN is 1.
Please help me how to configure the case. Thanks for your help.

I think he's just looking for PVE.  You can enabled 'protected port' on a port by port basis.
Here's the excerpt from the admin guide.
    Protected Port
—Select to make this a protected port. (A protected port is
also referred as a Private VLAN Edge (PVE).) The features of a protected port
    are as follows:
Protected Ports provide Layer 2 isolation between interfaces (Ethernet
ports and LAGs) that share the same VLAN.
Packets received from protected ports can be forwarded only to
unprotected egress ports. Protected port filtering rules are also applied
to packets that are forwarded by software, such as snooping
    applications.
Port protection is not subject to VLAN membership. Devices connected
to protected ports are not allowed to communicate with each other, even
if they are members of the same VLAN.

What is missing from the example is the fact that you need to create a Variable in the Manage Variable List for the $interfaceNameList object. Here is what I did:
    Template Detail:
    CLI Content:
    #foreach ($interfaceName in $interfaceNameList)
            interface $interfaceName
                 shutdown
            exit
    #end
Next hightlight the interfaceNameList name and then click on the Manage Variables icon (upper right corner of the dialog). This will create a new variable of type String called interfaceNameList. Edit this new variable and change it to:
    Type: DB
    Default Value: IntfName
Note: IntfName was retrieved from the list of predefined variables listed in /opt/CSCOlumos/conf/ifm/template/inventoryTagsInTemplate mentioned above.

  • Use WRP400 (VoIP Router) for Voice only, and the rest with WRT54GL

Hey there, I hope you are doing great!
The reason of this thread is because I recently moved to a cable ISP and unfortunately had to also change routers in order to take advantage of the VoIP feature (analog phone) they provided me with.
Now, the new router, the WRP400, is very limited feature-wise compared to the custom flashed WRT54GL I used to use with my DSL provider.
Now the WRT54GL does not have any FXS ports, so I obviously can't just plug my cable modem to the WRT54GL. Therefore, I was hoping to achieve a setup similar to this one:
Cable modem => VoIP Router w/ voice only (WRP400) => "Main" router (WRT54GL w/ Tomato)
Is there a way to bridge the WRP400 successfully with the WRT54GL keeping only the voice feature enabled on the VoIP router while the WRT54GL takes care of the rest? (Wireless, WAN, port forwarding, etc)
Thank you very much for your help, and have an awesome day!
    Lev

I am going to provide a few snapshots of the config pages as to make this easier:
    Basic setup page

Once more, thank you very much for the assistance!

  • Best Pactice for Connecting ASA to Catalyst Switch with Mulitple VLANs

    Hi all,
Have the following network topology that was in place when I started the job (See attached pdf).  Am thinking it might be better if I could eliminate the Cisco 2811 router and connect directly from the ASA to my 12 port fiber switch (192.168.7.1).  In my thinking this would eliminate an unnecessary piece of equipment and also give me a gig link to my ASA as opposed to the 100 meg link I have now with the old router.  The 12 port fiber has links to most of my IDFs and is acting as my VLAN gateway for all inter VLAN routing.
Is my current topology ideal or would I be better served to remove router and connect directly to the 3750G-12s Fiber switch or my Master Switch (192.168.7.4)?  Only thing I don’t like about direct connect to Master switch is that it takes scheduling a major outage for me to reboot it.  However, if that is best practice in this case, I can live with it.
It appears the 12 port fiber cannot have IP addresses  assigned directly to Ports, only to VLANs.  So would I have to create a separate vlan for my ASA and assign IPs to the vlan on each end of the connection?
I have read some suggestions that say it is better to terminate all VLANs on the ASA.  So as I understand that would require creating subinterfaces on my ASA LAN port and assigning each subinterface to its own VLAN  Inter VLAN routing would then be controlled by ASA.
Does not seem practical to me as I have about 15 VLANs total.  Not showing everything in the drawing.
Guess my main question is “What is best practice for topology and routing in my scenario?”

    Hi Mcreilly,
You should be able to assign an ip address on cat6k sup720 if you are running native ios on sup 720.
If you are running catos then you will not be able to do that and you can have it configured as trunk and connect to the router. Also I do not think that you need subinterfaces on router and trunk on switch because your cat6k with sup720 must be doing intervlan routing between vlans.
You can just connect it on some port on any vlan and same subnet ip address which you have it on msfc for that vlan you can assign on the router interface and anybody want to go out via t3 link will get routes on sup720 and move out via router vlan.
For suppose you do not want the router to be part of existing vlan you can create one vlan on cat6k sup720 and assign one port to that new vlan and connect the royter to that new vlan port and then create logical interface on msfc for that new vlan and assign an ip address range on that logical vlan and same subnet ip address range you can assign on router physical interface.
Any one from other vclan get routed on sup 720 msfc and will move out via the vlan on which you have connected the router.
because you have only one router you will not be able to maintain box level redundancy by which i mean if the router goes down t3 will be unreachable.

  • Best preference settings for MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor 16GB memory Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB processor

    (using latest AE CC2014)
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor 16GB memory Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB processor, doing some heavy AE renderings and just realized that this machine says it has 8 Cores? I'm had not yet turned on Multprocessing in Preferences Should I be?
Should I leave 1 or 2 cores for other applications?
RAM allocation per background CPU is defaulted set to 3GB
Also for Adobe Media Encoder: in preferences under Video Rendering /Rendere it is set at Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) is that the best config for this computer?

    How much ram?
The best settings depend on what you are working on. Here are mine for a nearly identical system:
It's usually best to keep memory blocks in 4GB blocks. If my workflow is more in other apps I'll switch out other apps to 8 gb if things start to slow down. Because of my usual project settings I keep MP turned off on this machine, but for some projects I'll turn it on. If you decide to experiment to MP then keep an eye on the Actual CPU's that will be used and make sure the numbers add up. Other applications and Actual Cores should add up the the total in your system.

  • Optimum Settings for Video Streaming (Netflix, Sling, etc) with E1500?

I recently started using an E1500, which, for the most part, has worked great. However, my Roku devices no longer connect at maximum speed/quality, according to the connection gauge. I no longer get the HD indication. The highest I get is 4 dots. With my Panasonic Netflix software, where there is no specific HD indicator, just a horizontal bar, it is always one notch shy of max. With previous routers (Dlink, Actiontec, 2Wire) I had no problem connecting at the maximum, even with "G" connections.
So, I was wondering if there were settings within the E1500 that would optimize video data transport. I do have WMM enabled. I also added the Roku boxes to QOS. But, I am still getting less-than-maximum connections with Roku and Panasonic Netflix apps.

Open the set up page of the router by typing the IP address of 192.168.1.1 or open Cisco connection go to router settings
Then go to advanced settings and  then click copy password and hit OK ..once you on the router page
Go to wireless and click manual after that create network name (SSID) Then set the wireless security as WPA2 personal
Which would give you stabilize connectivity then upgrade the latest firmware on  the router and reduced the MTU to 1462..
Unplug the power from  the modem and  the router
Wait for 1 minute and plug them back wait for 1 minute and then check the speed .

  • NLS settings for a database link between DBs with different character sets

I am using a database link to move data from one database to another and I am seeing some strange data problems. The databases have different character sets and different NLS settings. I wonder if this could be causing my problem.
Here are the NLS parameters for the database where the database link exists. (the SOURCE database)
    1     NLS_CALENDAR     GREGORIAN
    2     NLS_CHARACTERSET     WE8MSWIN1252
    3     NLS_COMP     BINARY
    4     NLS_CURRENCY     $
    5     NLS_DATE_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR
    6     NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    7     NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY     $
    8     NLS_ISO_CURRENCY     AMERICA
    9     NLS_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    10     NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS     BYTE
    11     NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     AL16UTF16
    12     NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP     FALSE
    13     NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS     .,
    14     NLS_SORT     BINARY
    15     NLS_TERRITORY     AMERICA
    16     NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    17     NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    18     NLS_TIME_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    19     NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
Here are the NLS parameters for the database that the database link connects to. (the TARGET database)
    1     NLS_CALENDAR     GREGORIAN
    2     NLS_CHARACTERSET     AL32UTF8
    3     NLS_COMP     BINARY
    4     NLS_CURRENCY     $
    5     NLS_DATE_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR
    6     NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    7     NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY     $
    8     NLS_ISO_CURRENCY     AMERICA
    9     NLS_LANGUAGE     AMERICAN
    10     NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS     BYTE
    11     NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     AL16UTF16
    12     NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP     FALSE
    13     NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS     .,
    14     NLS_SORT     BINARY
    15     NLS_TERRITORY     AMERICA
    16     NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    17     NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT     DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
    18     NLS_TIME_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM
    19     NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT     HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
The SOURCE database version is 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
The TARGET database version is 11g Release 11.1.0.6.0 - 64bit Production
Do I need to modify the NLS settings in the SOURCE database before executing a script to insert data into the TARGET database?
    Thanks, Jack

The difference in settings is not a problem by itself, especially that only the NLS_CHARACTERSET matters. Of course, this difference may lead to certain issues if not taken into consideration.
Please, describe symptoms of your problems.

  • What are the settings for using an ATT mail account with iPad mail?

    Dear Folks,
I just switched from earthlink to att, and I can't seem to get Mail configured quite right. I can send email just fine, via stmp.att.yahoo.com. But when I try to receive email it tells me it can't connect to pop.att.yahoo.com.
Since I can send OK, I figure my email address and password have to be good, so most likely I'm using the wrong POP server address.
Would someone like to give me a clue?
    Thanks!
    pax / Ctein

Am having similar problems. Outgoing settings work on our iBook, using home wireless net, but the same settings do not work on our iPad. Why is this, and can anything be done to fix this?
I am connected to our AT&T DSL modem via Ethernet cable. the modem is the wireless type, also.
    INCOMING: pop.att.yahoo.com
    USERNAME: [name]@sbcglobal.net
    PASSWORD:*************
    PORT: 995 w/Use SSL checked.
    OUTGOING: smtp.att.yahoo.com
    USERNAME: [name]@sbcglobal.net
    PASSWORD:*************
    PORT: 465 w/Use SSL checked
I entered this info into the iPad before syncing it and have tried many permutations to no avail. Talking to AT&T did no good as they suggested coming out and changing settings in the DSL modem, which would have precluded using it normally, and would have made it impossible to connect elsewhere with the iPad. D'oh!
Apple doesn't have an answer as we spent a couple of hours with one of their "GENIUSES" and after asking his supervisor about it we left with only the mobileme capability. We can access the internet tho, just not use our own email address.
All I can say is HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP--HELP-!!
P.S. A family member who just left Apple told me that the next OS is going to be called "LION, OS7!"
