AAaarargh, hep with javascript in Dreamweaver Please!!!

I am getting so frustrated - usually I can figure things out,
but I am tearing my hair out.
I have sliced a site up in Photoshop and now I am trying to
put some content in which uses a java script with the site I used
as a background.
First: I can;t overlay the code - I just get the IMG SRC and
no content.
Second: If I remove the IMG SRC then my site explodes as the
generated content pushes the slices all over the place.
Please does anyone have any ideas. I have included my code
below,

One way to do this is to create two identical pages - one with Javascript and another without.  So when somebody loads a page without the javascript, he can click on the button to load the page with the javascript and it should run automatically provided the browser has been configured to run scripts.  The button effectively is a link to the page with javascript - nothing special about this. Some people deliberately block all forms of scripts but there is no solution for this as users can do whatever they think fit for them.
Hope this gives you some ideas to think about.

  • I am unable to use the Live View function when working with JavaScript in Dreamweaver.

    I am currently trying to set up my own website with dreamweaver and am very familiar with Java and JavaScript. However, whenever I try to use the Live View function it never lets me. Additionally, I am unable to preview my work in a browser as the option to do so is greyed out.
    However, I have noticed that when using html in a project, all these functions are available. Any ideas how I can be able to use these functions?

    Is it possible you meant to say you were "very unfamiliar with Java and javascript" in your initial post?
    Javascript doesn't do anything without an html page to affect.
    Java and javascript are not the same thing, they're really not even related other than browsers can be made to render both. Java is its own programming language while javascript is basically html's helper monkey. I don't think it's even feasible to "understand javascript" without knowing html. My last post still stands, if you are coding javascript, you need an html based page to turn it into anything but plain code to a browser, so the option to view it will never come up. When you preview the page it's attached to, it will function correctly (as long as it has been attached to the page correctly).
    Java on the other hand can create programs that run without a browser at all and I've never gotten close to touching that monster.
    You may need to explain what you're trying to do and post the code here to get the help you need.

  • Help with Preferences in Dreamweaver Please

    Is there a setting that determines how Dreamweaver writes CSS
    code? Forenstence, I would like it to remove the white space that
    it creates by default. So instead of p { line-height: 1.2em; } it
    writes it like p { line-height:1.2em; }. Notice no space before the
    1.2em. This is how I would prefer it to write. Is there a setting
    for this? Thanks!

    FWIW, if you ever have a visitor using Netscape Navigator 4
    if there is not
    a space between the colon and value Netscape 4 would ignore
    the
    property/value pair. I don't know if there is another more
    modern browser
    with the same bug or not.

  • Problem with JavaScript snipet that DreamWeaver is writing

    I am having a problem with code that DreamWeaver (CS3) is
    writing. I'm fairly certain the problem is in a small piece of
    JavaScript that DreamWeaver is composing.
    This is a fairly complex problem, so bear with me.
    First - What I am trying to make happen: When on a page on my
    site (the-oilman.com) I want a link that opens a new window in the
    on-line store at a different site (AMSOIL.com). I need to leave
    both the page on my site open and have this 'store' page open.
    First of all this is working fine, using the 'Open Window'
    'behavior' in DreamWeaver. If someone wants to change windows (or
    tabs) and go back to my page, leaving the 'store' window open also
    - the problem is set up to happen. If from back at my site, you
    click on the same or a different link that goes back to the 'store'
    either on the same page or a different page at AMSOIL.com - the
    'store' window goes to the correct page, but the 'store' window
    does NOT come on top. When they click on a link to go back to the
    'store' I need the 'store' window to come to the top. If they have
    previously put something in the cart, and come back and add
    something else to the cart in the 'store' by coming in from
    different links on my site the 'store' is working correctly because
    I leave it open the whole time.
    snipets of code that DreamWeaver is writing for my site
    (the-oilman.com):
    from the head:
    <script>
    <!--
    CSAct[/*CMP*/ '129AABC1'] = new Array(CSOpenWindow,/*URL*/ '
    http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&page=store','store',0,0,true,true,true,true,tr ue,true,true);
    CSAct[/*CMP*/ '129AAC63'] = new Array(CSOpenWindow,/*URL*/ '
    http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&page=store','store',0,0,true,true,true,true,tr ue,true,true);
    CSAct[/*CMP*/ '10D39F40'] = new Array(CSOpenWindow,/*URL*/ '
    http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&page=storefront/sso','store',0,0,true,true,tru e,true,true,true,true);
    function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0
    window.open(theURL,winName,features);
    //-->
    </script>
    code from 2 different links that is using this script:
    <a href="
    http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&page=storefront/sso"
    target="store" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('#','store','')"
    csclick="10D39F40">Buy Now</a>
    <a href="
    http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&page=store"
    title="AMSOIL Store at AMSOIL.com" target="store"
    onClick="MM_openBrWindow('http:www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=52257&amp;page=store','stor e','')">On
    Line Store</a>
    I believe what I need is a longer javascript. Instead of just
    "window.open" I need an "if" but my javascript knowledge is very,
    very limited.
    I need it to first check that if the window named 'store' is
    open then 'focus' it, or if it is not open to open the window named
    'store'.
    Will this fix my problem? If so, please help me write the
    lines of code to do it.
    If this isn't the solution, what is the problem and the
    solution?
    A separate question but related: if you look in the two
    different links codes, in the function call one of them uses a
    'null' page reference and the other repeats the full link reference
    from the href= . Both seem to work, but which is the correct or the
    preferred syntax. My guess is there are some browsers that this
    will give a problem, but which way is preferred.

    Create a new page. Try to apply this same behavior to a link
    on that new
    page. Look at the code. Can you reproduce the problem there?
    The code you
    show below has oodles of GL stuff in it. Do you need that GL
    markup?
    What operational sequence did you go through to get this
    behavior call?
    onClick="MM_openBrWindow('#','store','')"

  • Please help with Javascript obejcts hierarchy

    Hi!
    Is following Javascript obejcts hierarchy is right?
    1. App > 2. Doc > 3. Page >
    (from Page) > 3.1 Annotation3D
    (from Page) > 3.2 Field (link)
    thank u )

    You have to have Acrobat/Reader open to open a PDF and use some or all of the Acrobat JS features.
    When Acrobat/Reader is started various folders are accessed and files within those folders read and processed to create the application. This includes dictionaries, certain global variables, various functions provided by Adobe, and user defined functions or variables. The Adobe provided functions or user provided functions or variables are accessed by their assigned name. So if you created an application folder level function in a file called 'hello.js' containing the following code:
    function HelloWorld()
    app.alert('Hello World!');
    return;
    HelloWorld();
    Each time you open Acrobat an alert box with "Hello World!" will appear.  So even without any PDF open one can perform or have a task done. With application level scripts, you can add menu item, tool bar buttons, or modify menu items, etc. So when you open Acrobat you could have a menu item to create a new blank PDF or add the JS API Reference to the "Help" menu item. And if you selected "Help => JavaScript API', the JS API Reference file would open, whether there is an open PDF or not.
    PDF files are opened at the application level, as the application needs to interpret the code of the PDF file and provide the necessary resources for displaying, calculating, linking, etc for the open PDFs. If you open a PDF pragmatically, you need to provide an object name to that PDF. Especially if you are going to reference that file with JavaScript.
    Within an open PDF there are various actions. The first is the document level scripts that are used to establish the environment in which that PDF will function. This could include special functions to sum values, compute date differences, perform special key stroke and formatting. There can even be test to see if there are any necessary application level functions available for use the the document.
    Within PDF document you can can fields, links, comments, etc. And these items only exist in the PDF document and rely on the PDF document for performing the various task or communicating those task the the application.
    By the way with the "HelloWorld" function defined in the application JavaScirpt folder, and PDF opened on that computer can have a button with the 'mouse up' action JavaScript of "HelloWorld();" for the code and any time that button is pressed the alert box that appeared when Acrobat was started will appear. But if you take that PDF to another computer that does not have that file nothing will happen or an error box will appear.
    See Getting Started - Developing for PDF by Dave Wright and look around the Planet PDF site.
    You also need to realize that Acrobat JavaScript does not run synchronously, so you do not always have the individual scripts running in the same order or speed so it is possible a script will not always start and end before the next script in line is started or ends. And if you have dependencies between these scripts you need to test to see if they are all met.

  • Problem with JavaScript in URL iView

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem with javascript when i am trying to access my application through URL iView. In the javascript window.top is used to access the frames in the window. But the EP is not recognizing it as valid. what exctly the problem and please suggest me a solution.
    Ashok.

    Hi,,
    thanks for the quick reply. But what i asked was different. I will put it in different way. I have deployed a application in Web Application Server and trying to access it through URL iView. My application is pure J2EE application with html,jsp and JS files. In javascript we used window.top property of the java script which is working fine MS IE. The problem is window.top is a IE specific property which is not having any equallent open standerd so EP is throwing a java script error. As I know the only possible solution for this problem is inherating IE rendaring capabilities to iView(i.e iFrame). is there any way to do that?

  • XML IDOC post to R/3 Via WAS - want to see error content with JavaScript

    Hi,
    I am posting XML IDOCs to our R/3 system via a webpage that I have built with JavaScript.  I am posting to the WAS, which is configured to read the XML IDOC with SAP's standard class handler CL_HTTP_IDOC_XML_REQUEST.  We are on basis 620 support pack SAPKB62041.
    In my webpage, I have the JavaScript code set to read the status and statusText so I can see the response from WAS when I post my XML IDOC.  However, I am getting back very generic information when I encounter a 409 error.  THe statusText is always "input_not_found".  So I debugged the class handler code and found that SAP is returning back the more descriptive error info in HTML format.
    I ran a packet sniffer to see what WAS returns and the info looks like this:
    <html><head><title>IDoc-XML-inbound not ok</title><h1>IDoc-XML-inbound not ok</h1></head><body>
    E:Table Lookup Error:300 Cannot map value for field MESCOD in table ZFI_IF_IDOCORG using values
    SNDSAD = |TE|  and RCVLAD = |GL|  and MESTYP = |ACC_DOCUMENT|</body></html>
    I want to know how I can get my webpage to read this HTML info and store that into an alert so I can read this text that I'm returning back to the HTTP post.
    This is how my script looks.  I'm using IE6.
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

    Previously with this class handler, SAP returned the detailed info back to the "alert(xmlhttp.statusText)" and I had no problem seeing the return info.  But now they have decided to format it in HTML and I don't know how to view this text since it has no ID on it to pull this into an alert box.
    If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Andrea

    Ok!
    I have solve the problem. So, I was trying to connect via SSO within an user that was not registered in R/3 and I forgot it.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Printing PDF attachments with Javascript?

    I am very new to Javascript (and not a programmer) so please excuse my basic or un-correct terminology here! I've created an interactive pdf, and have set buttons (with javascript code) to print specific ranges of pages from the document. I've now been asked to have said buttons print attachments (which are also pdf's) in the same style... is this possible, and if so, does anyone have example code? The code that I used to print the page ranges, for example:
    print ({nStart: 0, nEnd: 5});
    Any assistance/guidance/help would be greatly appreciated!

    The document first has to be opened. You can do this via JavaScript with the doc.openDataObject method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.509.html
    This method returns a doc object, which you can use with the print method to print the document. You should then use the closeDoc method to close the document, as mentioned in and demonstrated in the documentation linked to above.

  • How can i optimize my SEARCH ENGINE???I use godaddy.i contact them and they give me this conclusion:Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript. the content on the pages, (photo gallery.....

    conclusion from godaddy:
    Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript.
    the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
    See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
    I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...
    please i need help because like this nobody can rich my website...
    www.chefdiego.com
    thank you

    The part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar.  That's javascript based.  One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not  included in the navbar.
    Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
    Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.
    Have you let Google know your site exists? This website describes how to get it recognized: Get your iWeb website found in search engines like Google Yahoo MSN and Bing.

  • How to change CSS if Javascript disabled. Please help.

    Hi all,
    So my pursuit for accessible and good looking pages
    continues.....
    I am working on a new website: XHTML, external CSS, PHP
    driven.
    I decided to use the nice Project Seven vertical scroll menu
    for a looping newsbox. Works great with Javascript enabled and
    opens as it should with Javascript disabled. However, I have the
    scroll menu inside a div called "newsbox", which resides inside a
    floated div. This of course causes the content to extend beyond the
    main container.
    Now to fix this issue what I would like to do is have the
    Project Seven menu display when Javascript is enabled and when
    Javascript is disabled I want to change the CSS of "newsbox" to
    'overflow: scroll' so that the box still displays as a scroll box.
    (This would keep my current design looking nice.)
    I've looked at many solutions online but I need for it to
    validate in XHTML.
    All I want to be able to do is change that one line of CSS
    for the "newsbox" div if Javascript is disabled.
    I know this isn't really Dreamweaver related but I was hoping
    someone might have a simple fix for this.
    Any help or links to relevant online tutorials greatly
    appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Rachelle

    Hi Rachelle
    Yes it should be inside a script element in head, but you
    can't call it
    before "newsbox" is available. You'd need to call it onload
    or move the
    snippet in the code, after "newsbox".

  • Add annotations with JavaScript

    Hello,
    I'm currently writing a JavaScript function (that will be executed in a JSP page) to add annotations to PDF files. So far, so good. Actually everything is working as intended except one thing: the position of the annotation. Somehow, it always ends up at position 0,0 (bottom left) of the document with a size of 0, but I know it's there because I can see it in the list of comments. Here is my JavaScript function:
    function annotPdf(src)
         // Create the ActiveXObject
         var pdf = new ActiveXObject('AcroExch.PDDoc');
         // Variables
         var pdfJS;
         var annot;
         var printParams;
         var page;
         var rectSize = new Array();
         // Open PDF
         pdf.Open(src);
         // Determine where to place the annotation
         page = pdf.AcquirePage(0);
         page = page.GetSize();
         rectSize[0] = 25;
         rectSize[1] = page.y - 50;
         rectSize[2] = page.x - 25;
         rectSize[3] = page.y - 25;
         // Get the JSObject
         pdfJS = pdf.GetJSObject();
         // Add the annotation
         pdfJS.addAnnot({page: 0, type: 'FreeText', rect: rectSize, author: 'Automated', contents: 'Test'});
         // Printing
         printParams = pdfJS.getPrintParams();
         printParams.interactive = -1;
         printParams.firstPage = 0;
         printParams.pageHandling = printParams.constants.handling.fit;
         // pdfJS.print(printParams);
         // Save instead of printing for testing
         pdf.Save(1, "C:/Tempo/test.pdf");
         pdf.Close();
    Again, everything works. The annotation is created, but not positioned (as if rect was not doing its job). Now, if I open the same PDF document with Adobe Acrobat 9 and go into the JavaScript Debugger and put:
    this.addAnnot({page: 0, type: 'FreeTest', rect: [25,742,1199,767], author: 'Automated', contents: 'Test'});
    It correctly adds the annotation to the position I want. My theory is that passing an array with Javascript to add an annotation is bugged, because I can do the exact same thing with VB (Pass an array of Integers to rect) and it works perfectly!
    Anyone could help me find a way to make my function work?
    Thanks, Rukk.

    Oops, my bad. It's installed on client not server. My mistake.
    As I said, the ActiveX has no problem to instantiate. That part works. As I said in my first post, I can open my PDF file, add an annotation to it, print it, etc. The problem I have is that I can't decide where to put my annotation (with the rect property). Please refer to my first post.
    Again, thanks for your answer.
    Edit:
    I had to retype it, because when I did copy & paste it added lot of extra blank line (that I wasn't able to delete) and formatting was a bit weird.
    It' a typo.

  • Replacing comma with Javascript

    Hi,
    How to replace commas in an array with Javascript???
    For eg, i have an array that contain the values 1,2,3,4.
    Here i want to remove the comma. So the solution i am looking for is
    1234.
    How to do this. Can we the Java functions like replace() in javascript?
    How to import the Java classes in Javascript???
    Please do provide a solution for this.
    Regards,
    M.Ananthu

    I'm not aware of any mechanism in Javascript that can help with this. In our fully-internationalized web applicaiton we choose to perform all locale-dependent validation server-side. This includes dates, numbers, currency values etc. About the only thing we check in Javscript is that required fields are filled in.
    I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has solved this in Javscript. Its possible that you could dynamically generate a Javscript validation routine based on the locale-specific formatting symbols, but we decided it wasn't worth it.

  • Remove or isolate part with JavaScript?

    Hi folks,
    as you know you can remove or isolate parts in the modelhierarchy with a few clicks. Now I want to do exacactly the same with JavaScript to add this function to a button or something similar.
    So I can have a button like "show part xy" and only this part is shown in the 3D view and other parts are not visible.
    Is there any chance to do this?
    I think there's a workaround with creating an animation like an exploded view where certain parts are removed. But a simple funtion would be much more easier I think.
    thx in advance,
    Tobias

    Hi,
    I didn't check whether the following code actually compiles and works, but maybe it does what you're trying to accomplish...
    [3D annotation JavaScript code, associated with the container for Your embedded U3D model]
    function makeAllMeshesInvisible ( )
    var howManyMeshesInScene = scene.meshes.count;
    for ( m=0; m < howManyMeshesInScene; m++ )
    var myMesh = scene.meshes.getByIndex(m);
    console.println("Making mesh " + myMesh.name + " invisible.");
    myMesh.visible = false;
    function makeMeshVisible ( meshName )
    var myMesh = scene.meshes.getByName(meshName);
    if ( myMesh )
    myMesh.visible = true;
    else
    console.println("There is no mesh named " + meshName);
    [Document JavaScript code, e.g. associated with a button]
    // getAnnots3D(pageNum)[annotIdx]
    context3D = getAnnots3D(0)[0].context3D;
    context3D.makeAllMeshesInvisible();
    context3D.makeMeshVisible("nodeName");
    Please note that the 3D viewer must be active for the button to work properly...
    I hope it works and helps!

  • How to create a popup windown with javascript?

    Hi, every one,
    I made a jsp program. I know we can use win.open, win.close to create, to close a popup window with javascript. But I don't know how to create a popup window ,display some message on this window and there is a button on it for closing this window. Just like follows:
    int mark;
    if(mark==1){
         create popup window, display some message, there is a
    button and click it to close this window.
    } else {
         display error message.
    Any one can help me?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, bdtjdc,
    Thank you for your help and kindness.
    You know, I am a new one in javascript. So,
    1, I only know how to use alert(message) on current page and I don't know how use alert(message) on the next page because I
    need to pass some datas from current jsp page to next one.
    2, when I use the code you gave me as follows, there is no popup window and button:
    if(mark==1){
    %>
    <script language="JavaScript">
    message=message+'enter your message here...<br>';
    message=message+'<form name="form1"><input type="button" name="close" value="close window"
    onClick="window.close()"></form>';
    message='enter your message here...<br>';
    var actwin=window.open("","","menubar=0,width=300,height=300");
    actwin.document.write(message);
    actwin.document.close();
    actwin.focus();
    </script>
    <%
    } else {
    error message;
    if I use the code like this, We have the window and message on it, but there is no button on the window.
    if(mark==1){
    %>
    <script language="JavaScript">
    message='enter your message here...<br>';
    var actwin=window.open("","","menubar=0,width=300,height=300");
    actwin.document.write(message);
    actwin.document.close();
    actwin.focus();
    </script>
    <%
    } else {
         error message;
    What's the problem? Please.
    Thanks again.
    Peter
