Able to edit Business Rules through Excel interface?

Hi,
I wonder if there is any way that I can add, modify or delete the Business Rules definitions through Excel interface. In the Admin Console, though the Business Rules interface looks neat, I encounter the following difficulties in editing the Account Transformation definitions:
1. The check in the Reverse Sign sometimes disappears after the definitions being saved. I have to click something other than Business Rules, like Dimensions, Application, Security, etc, and come back to Account transformation again in order to have the Reverse Sign check being saved.
2. I'm not able to to check the Reverse Sign in the last definition of Account transformation. It always disappears after being saved. My workaround is to put a dummy definition at the end or not to put that definition, which needs Reverse Sign, at the end.
3. When I delete some definitions in the middle, the following error pops up after validation.
[] value does not exists in ID of Account dimension.
4. I have written my definitions in my design documents in Excel but I'm not able to copy and paste all of them to Admin Console's business rules. I have to fill in each value one by one.
Or can I simply edit the table dbo.clcCALCAccount_XXXX? Since I used to be a database programmer, I feel it easier to directly edit the database table rather than using the business rules interface.
Best Regards,
Sunny

Sunny,
It is not according to the book but it is possible to change the business rules directly on the SQL. That is the way i do it sometime... and yes the table you point is the right one. You see other tables for other business rules...
Usually i just do a copy and paste into excel. Then i change into excel (i also use EVPROs to check if the members are not calculated members...) and then i repaste it into SQL...
But I have to say, do it at your own risk, as I stated before it is not really advised/safe...

  • Editing Business Rules at Runtime

    Hi All,
I reviewed this doc http://edocs.bea.com/albsi/docs60/resources/ALBPM6.0_NewFeaturesOverview.pdf and wrote my first business rule in ALBPM. I use the rule to determine transition in my business process.
One of the benefits of business rules is allowing business analysts changing the rules at runtime. The business rule I created does not show up in my workspace. If I'm a business analyst and I want to change the rule, how can I do that? Do I have to open ALBPM designer/studio and change it there? If that is the case, I don't see how it is different from a developer changing it.
I'd like to get your thoughts on this, and if there is anything I can do to make the business rules easier accessible to the business folks.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
To allow end users to edit a business rule in the Workspace, in Studio:
    1) add a Global activity in the process
    2) right mouse click it -> "Main Task" -> click "Implementation type" and select "Edit Business Rules"
    3) in the column on the right side, change the business rules you want the end user to edit from "No" to "Yes"
    4) republish and deploy and log in as a user who is assigned the role where you added the Global activity (if the user was already logged in, log out and log back in).
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Editing Business Rules

    Hi All,
I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.1.0 and have a classic planning application.
I created a few business rules using the Essbase Administrative Services Console.
Now I need to let one of the users modify certain values used in the buisness rule. One way is to allow the user to access EAS Console and then edit the rule.
However for a business user its not a very ideal way of editing the rules.
Can somebody please suggest if at all there is some other way by which the user can modify the business rule without getting into much of a coding thing and out of EAS Console?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards.
    Alicia

    Hi,
If you are using classic planning and in the first release of planning the only way to edit business rules is via EAS.
I wouldn't really expect standard business users to be editing business rules, maybe the occasional user who has knowledge of business rules.
Does the user really need to update code? Are run time prompts not enough. Should it not be a superuser or admin making these changes.
In later versions of V11 there is also calc manager for classic planning though I am not a fan of this yet and feel it has a long way to go.
    Cheers

  • Edit Business Rules a Run Time

    Hi Friends,
We can edit business rules at run time using SOA Composer if they belong to a SOA composite.
Is it possible to edit business rules in non-SOA application at run time using SOA Composer or otherwise?
    Thanks,
    Sachin.

    Hi Ashish,
Yes. I am referring to non-soa applications using Business Rules similar to grades application in below link:
         Creating a Rule-enabled Non-SOA Java EE Application
When I deploy above application, I do not see the business rules dictionary available for editing in 'SOA Composer'. Does this mean that SOA composer can only show dictionaries belonging to SOA composite?
And cannot show dictionaries in Non-SOA apps similar to one in above link?
    Thanks,
    Sachin.

  • Planner not able to see Business rule

    Hi There,
The issue here is ,we have attached some business rules to a form on "ON save" and through business rule security ,have given access to a planner user but with Planner login ,the he is not able to see that business rule attched with that form.i have checked with admin login ,it is visible.
Any idea why this is happening?

Have you added validate and launch access to the business rules for that user? If yes try restarting the services.
Also try removing and adding again the user with validate and launch access.
Try checking are you able to view BR under administration-> Business rules from the Planner's id ?

  • How to view or Edit Business Rules in SOA Composer

    HI,
We have a requirement to use Business Rules with OSB. We have OSB 11.1.1.5 installed in Clustered environment. Installed SOA composer patch on top of OSB 11.1.1.5. I have createed and deployed the sample Business Rules WAR/SAR targeted it to Admin Server. I could able to open Business Composer URL. Though unable to see any Rules. Nothing is available in Composer. I have privilege as "Admin".
In Server --> Deployments --> Composer war is active.
What else I need to check to view the Business Rules in Composer! Please let me know quick remedy to overcome!

Don't know much about SOA Composer (sorry - you've hit the BPM forum), but you should be able to see the business rules from the Oracle BPM Composer. If you've installed BPM, go to http://xx:####/bpm/composer and you'll see business rules after poking around a little. Let me know if you need more help finding them.

  • Unable to open/edit Business rules v9.3

    Hello,
I am unable to open/edit existing business rules in v9.3 in the AAS console. I get an error message: Exception occured: Please check your log for details.
Business rules have been working without issues for months. I checked the easserver.log and it is getting a java.lang.nullpointerexception when I try to open/edit rules. I have done all the normal checks/updates: restarted services, rebooted servers, checked provisioning, refreshed security from shared services, refreshed planning to essbase, logged into Planning first, etc.
I believe the issue occured when a business rule was deleted which "may" have been included in a sequence. Since I cannot open any BRs or sequences I cannot validate that assumption.
Another side note, I can create a BR and attached it to a location, but once I save it I am unable to open it. I have started looking thru the tables in the AAS RDB but it "seems" ok.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi,
I have not come across this sort of issue before, if you don't find a solution then as a final measure I would backup up the repository and export all the rules/macros/variables etc to xml.
Then I would first redeploy the web application server and see if that helps, if not I would reconfigure the database and drop it and then import the xml back in.
    Cheers

  • Not able to invoke business rules from BPM

    Hi,
I have a simple business rule (Used Bank class in Alias and created a simple rule set) and able to invoke successfully from webdynpro application.
But the problem comes when I try to run the same webdynpro application (as a part of BPM process) from UWL, it always throws ClassNotFoundException for Bank Class.
The thing is that I'm able to run webdynpro application properly (and is doesnt  throw error) as standalone but when I run the same application from UWL (I have binded UI to BPM process), it throws class not found error.
Thanks for your time and help.
    Best Regards,
    Shiva

    Hi Shiva,
sorry to bother but how did you integrate the rule in the BPM? I'm trying to use a rule as automated activity but I'm unable to create the Webservice from the rule...
    kind regards,
    Matthias

Any idea why is this happening?

    1. Have you added the location, in location tab?

  • Problem running business rules through forms that are 15+ mins long.

I just upgraded to 9.3.1 from 9.0.1 and we are having some issues with our business rules. We have business rules that can run up to several hours but the status on the screen ends up timing out with a 'please see planning' log error.
The error in the log states: Status unknown, calculation context no longer available
I can tell every second planning is checking on the business rule but after about 15 mins it does not:[9/5/08 19:47:06:810 CDT] 000000c1 SystemOut O state in essMainCalc.getprocessstate = 1
Even though there is an error I can look at what is running in essbase and see that the business rule is still running. When it finishes it does what it is supposed to do.
I have tried updating HBRServer.properties to a new timeout but it does not work.
I am really lost here, can anyone help?

    Hi,
There are a couple of you have, you can switch business rules to start running in the background after a certain time, the status of the rules can then be checked from planning with the business rules status page
    To set this up :-
1 Select Administration > Manage Properties.
2 Select Application Properties to set properties and values for a Planning application.
3 Add the property by clicking Add, entering the property in the blank row, and entering a value in Property
    Value:
Enter HBR_MAX_WAIT_FOR_RULE and the interval in milliseconds to wait before running
business rules in the background. If this property is not set, the feature does not work, and
business rules do not run in the background.
Optional: Enter HBR_MONITOR_DELAY and the interval in milliseconds for checking
    business rule status.
The default and minimum value for both options is 180000 milliseconds (3 minutes). If you
set a lower value, that value is ignored, and the property is set to the default value.
4 Click Save and confirm your changes.
Or you could try installing patch 9.3.1.1.1 or above (it is now at 9.3.1.1.7) from metalink3.
The patch includes :- (8-665086601) When the Business Rules connection to the relational database is lost, Business Rules does not reconnect to it. To solve this problem, an optional property, HBR_CONNECTION_VALIDATE_TIME, was added to HBRServer.properties. This property specifies a time interval for checking the connection between Business Rules and the relational database. If the connection is not valid, a new connection is established
    I hope this helps

  • Not able to edit Promotions PMDL rule through ACC

    Hi All,
Not able to edit PMDL rule(Condition and Offer property) for the existing promotions through ACC.It says "This version of PMDL not supported.
    Thanks
    Siva

    Siva
If the promotion was originally deployed from BCC, then you wont be able to edit the condition/offer via ACC.
As an alternative what you can do is create another promotion from ACC with a similar condition/offer and disable the previous one.
If you want to see atleast the condition and offer, for that you can query that promotion id in dyn/admin and see its pmdl xml.
    Hope this helps!

  • Running Business rules thru MAxl

Is it possible to run business rules through Maxl. If yes how do I pass parameters to the business rule, if I am running it thru a Maxl script?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: user10771273 on 30/04/2009 23:33

What, you guys aren't using graphical business rules? :)
I am currently working with a long time Essbase consultant who is new to Planning. He had coded his HBR as a calc script, and was ready to port it over to Planning/HBR.
The expression on his face when he first looked at the graphical interface was priceless.
I tried to explain about the early beginnings in HAM (Hyperion Allocation Manager), and how much better HBR is today than it was when it was graphical-only, and...I just gave up and showed him how to make it an Enhanced Calc Script.
We are all looking forward (?) to Calc Manager.

  • Business Rules API

I would like to update existing business rule through my own API. How can I connect to the business rule engine from java code?
    Please help!

Ok, so is it available elsewhere then?
Basically what I want to achieve is to be able to share *.rule files between a customized Java Application which is able to do crud stuff for rule/dictionary definitions, and the SOA composer. The Java Application will be backed by some more metadata that will drive how to define rules...
According to the docs I've read, you're able to do that in Java. But I can't seem to find in the API a way to export an existing RuleDictionary in memory. Also, is the RuleSession API + RL the only way to insert customized rules programmatically? I've seen this example plus the one that loads a RuleDictionary and executes a DecisionPoint. But I can't seem to fill the gap between the two. ( found DecisionPointInstance.ruleSession() - the docs said it was getRuleSession() )
Lastly, is it possible to define a RuleDictionary from scratch just using Java API?
Apologies if this is a mouthful :)

  • Oracle Business Rule  OBR  SOA Suite 11.1.1.3.0

    Hi,
I have created a business rule and used it in my BPEL process. The business rule example is as follow
<code> if the state is va then give 10% discount<code>
If I need to change it to 25%
Then I would modify the business rule via jdev and redeploy the composite application.
Question. How can I modify the business rule through the EM?
I need to modify the rule values without using jdev and redeploying the composite.
    Thanks

maybe what you need is ruleauthor:
    http://www.packtpub.com/article/business-rules-define-decision-points-oracle-soa-suite-part1
but if you use weblogic it's not deployed by default:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28965/faq.htm#CBAFGBIG
disclaimer: I have never used ruleauthor so don't consider me an expert...
