You are certified but you don't know how to to recover a database with corrupt redo logs? There you have my problem with certificates: they don't tell you jack about the true knowledge of the DBA and his problem solving skills. (or is this exactly what you are saying with "book knowledge"? I am no native English speaker, so I might have misunderstood).
Just enter your ORA-error in a metalink search and you will find notes that explain exactly what to do (the how-to's you mention ;))

Error Mail Merge Aborted due to error in creating the Mail Merge DataSource
Dear All,
please help me with this problem (Oracle release 12.0.4.)
1. PROBLEM:
When attempting to extract data, using Web ADI in HRMS, Word is selected as the viewer, but an Excel spreadsheet is generated rather than a MS Word document containing the data. Also error "Mail Merge Aborted due to error in creating the Mail Merge Data Source." appears on screen.
We are using MS Office 2003.
2. PROBLEM:
Unable to create data source from HR form PAYWSLEE.
We are using custom integrator. This integrator is attached to form function. Form function is attached to responsibility. We also created the layout.
The next step would be to create data source from form PAYWSLEE, but we are not able to perform this...
In release 11i we used this form (PAYWSLEE) to create datasource (for mailmerge), but in R12 this is not working... Something is missing here and I need your help to determine what. I checked the most documents on Oracle Support and didn't find solution for this problem...
Please advise.
Kind Regards,
AndrejaHi all,
Thanks for visiting our forum and sharing your experience here. It'll be benefited to our communicator.

ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors. Help me.
Something appears to be wrong with my control file backup. Upon
moving the backed up files to my "test" machine, I place them in the
data directory, and rename my control file backup to the correct name
and run this procedure:
- I start the instance
- I mount the database
- I issue a recover database
I then receive the following error:
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01610: recovery using the BACKUP CONTROLFILE option must be done
Does anyone have any thoughts around this?Hi,
Have you taken backup of control file?
(alter database backup controlfile to trace)
Does the path of datafiles on test machine is same as that of production machine from where you have copied files?
Steps:
1> startup nomount
2> copy create controlfile command from tracefile
If paths are different change them.
3> recover database until cancel using backup controlfile
It will ask archive logs path, specify path.
Press cancel after you have applied all archivelogs.
4> alter database open resetlogs
5> add tempfile in database. -

I get to the aggregate() command and then it's wait.. wait..wait.. until the recovery error above shows up and execution continues. There are no items in the NamedCache returned by Position.getCache() so it's not like this aggregator is legitimately taking ages to run.

...Thanks,
AndrewHi Andrew,
The message that you are seeing is indicating that the DistributedCache service thread is unresponsive (actually most likely deadlocked).
In this case, I think the service thread is blocked while invoking an EP, waiting on a Future to complete (presumably on a different thread). The future, in turn, is trying to do an aggregation, the result of which is waiting on the DistributedCache service thread to be free.

Recovery session canceled due to errors. Can't start DB after kernel panic.
Hi all,
I have a cluster Oracle 10 DB that was incorrectly shutdown (node 1 got a kernel panic when I disconnected the cluster interconnect and after a while node 2 also had a panic).
Now the DB doesn't start and I already tried an endless loop of solutions that don't work and lead me right to the start. I was hoping someone could help me fix this bloody thing please. This DB was running in archive log mode.

Iphone crash downloading iOS 6 and unable to restore using iTunes due to error 3253
I'm from New Zealand and woke up this morning to find the iOS 6 was available. So after an hour of downloading onto my iPhone 3GS, it wiped my phone, sent it into restore mode. I connected to iTunes - have been trying for almost 8 hours!!!!!!!! and it is unable to download iOS6 due to error 3252, connection resetting and error 23.
have done everything, all firewalls and anti-virus are switched off, upgraded to latest version of iTunes, turned off computer, re set the internet a million times. Won't downald on anyone eses computer in this house, and friends using other internet have the same problem.
My iPhone is now off and will not turn on! What the **** is going on Apple??? I spend a fortune on these products and these latest updates ahve been nothing but trouble!
Please can anyone help, im getting really p@#$@d off!!!!!!!I had this problem at first initially, and tried it 4 or 5 times. Once I made sure that no other unnecessary software was running, the restore worked successfully. However, it sounds like you've probably tried that. Good Luck.

==============
Was the CKPT Termination caused by some error in Redo Logs which needed recovery?Lookup the Error messages documentation.
Error 472 is
"PMON process terminated with error "
CKPT detected that PMON had "died" and so it forcibly terminated the database instance. (The background processes monitor each other and are designed to terminate the database instance if a critical process dies).
Look for a trace file.
PMON died because of a resource issue or a bug or a server issue or because it was killed (by the OS or a user or process with oracle / administrator privileges)

Database do not start due to error 445
Hi,
We have three databases on one HP-UX 11.31 server, the DB version is 10.2.0.4, we started facing slowness in all the databases, when I tried to connect to the server it was very slow, even the sqlplus was taking very long time, when checked the alert logs of all the databases, found the below error in each alert log file;
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed
Sun Apr 10 12:56:56 2011
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed
Sun Apr 10 12:59:00 2011The server resource utilization was fine with almost 15%CPU utilization, 55% Memory utilization.
I aborted the databases then tried to start them, the startup failed with the below error for all databases;
ORA-00445: background process "PMON" did not start after 120 seconds
The following is the alert log content for one database;
ksvcreate: Process(m000) creation failed

No changes on the server side, but recently we changed the Windows DNS servers and this unix machine is connected to the domain.
the resolv.conf file contents are
oracle:/etc$ more resolv.conf
domain mc.ed
nameserver 10.141.11.1
nameserver 10.141.11.2But, we have two new DNS servers with 10.141.11.3 and 10.141.11.4.
I think changing the old DNS IPs with the new DNS IPs will resolve the issue.
