About Acroforms and permissions

Hello anyone!
I'm writing an application, using the Gnostice VCL Toolkit http://www.gnostice.com/PDFtoolkit_VCL.asp that, given a set of data (generated launching a query on a db) and a blank acroform programmatically generates a new PDF file that consists in a form filled with the given data. I was wondering about how document restrictions can interfere in the process, I suppose that if the extraction of the document data is restricted the application couldn't retrieve critical data as the number of fields, their name, thair format and so on. I searched the PDF specifications document but I was unable to find exactly what every permission setting allows/denys.
Can please someone link me documentations on such topic?

If the PDF has "can't change" restriction enabled, then you won't be able to SET the field values.  But retrieving the information is open PROVIDED that the PDF does have not a "user password" OR that the software knows the password.

Is anyone having the same type of problems I'm having with Lion. I have a new MacBook Pro, received 7 weeks ago, preinstalled with Leopard 10.6.7. I didn't migrate anything from my old iMac, wanted a clean install from the Apple Store. While there, I asked for the upgrade to Lion 10.7, however their system was down.
I  installed it myself, wirelessly about a week later, and Apple emailed me a receipt. Now, I've had to call support directly last week when I lost Mail, Address Book, was unable to open Preview or iTunes, among other problems. Seemed fixed after a session that baffled even the store tech.  Now I am unable to download or install the recent Mac updates for Lion, from the App Store, could not install Adobe Reader, etc. Messages range from 'A network error has occured - Check your Internet connection and try again' to 'The Installer is damaged and cannot open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.'  All fail and I'll probably have to call Apple again. I am frustrated beyond words.  Logs 'Install's runner tool is not properly configured as a setuid tool', domain errors, 'attempt to write a readonly database, and on and on. I have barely done a thing on this computer except search online for help with these problems. Safari gives me a 'You are not connected to the internet' too often. Diagnostics disagrees. I do see wi-fi problems in the forum. Disk and permissions were fine at the beginning of the earlier problems, checked first by support tech. I'm not sure if support tech even knew. I was just happy they were fixed. Anyone have these download and/or install problems after a 'clean bill of health' so to speak, only a week ago?

Let's try the following user tip with that one:

  • Can't use Ikea Home Planner because of Sharing and Permissions on plug-in

I'm not sure where to submit this, or if the Apple support community cares, but I swear there's an answer to this. I am on a Macbook Air using Lion 10.7.2
When I download the "NP_2020Player_IKEA.plugin" downloadable from this website http://kitchenplanner.ikea.com/AU/UI/Pages/VPUI.htm and try to mount the plug-in I get these errors...
    1. letting me know that the Ikea plug-in can't be moved because internet plug-ins can't be modified. So I click "Authenticate".
    2. Then I "Replace" and after this selection it's asks for the Administrator's password, and I give it.
    3. I follow the directions of this prompt, but am unable to change all of the permissions to "Read and Write"..
4.Here is a screenshot of the "Get Info" window for the plug-in.
I am unable to change "staff" and "everyone" to "Read & Write".
So I just ignore it and restart Safari, hoping it will work. When I return to the Home Planner main page it automatically directs me to the download page again, prompting me to download the plug-in. From what I've read it should just open the home planner. I'm assuming it's because the plug-in was never mounted because I can't allow the sharing and permissions? I don't really know a lot about computers, can someone help? I know a lot of other people have had issues with this planner download, but I haven't found any answers about how to fix it. I'm an organization freak and really really would love to have this planner work. Google sketch-up is way too much work, and I don't trust grid paper and cut outs of furniture to convey the depth I need to see. But maybe that's my only option at this point?

    HERE SHOULD BE YOUR SOLUTION:
Command+Space to bring up universal search, type in "Internet plug-ins"...
You may get multiple choices, one referencing OS-X Lion, perhaps one ref-ing your personal login...Choose one (I started with the main - OS X Lion - one)...it will open on your desktop...If you're like me (or like the Droitetgouche), you've already tried to install it, and it gave you all that crap about "can't be modified"...etc...So delete any of those plug-ins (there may be a few, depending how many installs you've tried), then right-click the "Internet Plug-ins" folder and choose "get info"...I'm not sure why "D...che" (spelling ease) couldn't change permissions...maybe wasn't logged in as the admin?...but click the "lock" symbol in the bottom right corner, unlock it, change ALL permissions to Read & Write, then relock it.  Then open the IKEA dmg again and drag the item into the folder and it should work no problem.
Then quit Safari, restart, and it should let you work.
IF it doesn't, try going back to your universal search and choosing a different "Internet Plug-ins" folder...(Also, if you've tried the install, and you don't find any IKEA dmg's in the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder, you're likely in the wrong folder).
Also, you may want to go back later and restrict the read/write permissions when you're done with IKEA.
It worked for me, let me know if it works for you.

  • Why Can't VZ do the Right Thing For Once and Permit Network Extender Owners to Close their Networks?

Given the fact that the Network Extender can be set for managed access or open access, clearly it can technologically be configured so that a closed network could be set up so that ONLY those users that are included in the "priority list" could access the Network Extender.
If I had to guess, Verizon, prefers to benefit from your internet connection and your investment in a network extender by bolstering their network in poor reception areas for all of their customers in the vicinity on us Network Extender owners' backs rather than to do the right thing and permit a customer who has paid for the device as well as their internet access to close the network.
I find this sleazy and hope VZW will rethink its approach to this.  We who subscribe to VZW for our cellular service pay the highest rates, on average, in the country for cell service.  We have also paid hundreds of dollars for the Network Extender, and pay for the internet that is used to facilitate the phone calls made through the network extender.
Once it a while it would be nice if VZW did the right thing for its customers and not blatantly, at least, put their corporate greed about the needs of their customers.

I called Verizon tech support, and was informed that there is an option to close the Network Extender. This would allow only numbers on the white list to connect to the extender. Is the information I received incorrect? I spoke to them just the other day. Have you tried to configure the extender recently?
My post asking for clarification is here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1002928#1002928
Thanks for any information you can provide.

  • Directory ownership and permissions

After installing WebLogic Server (in /opt/bea as root), I tried to start the admin server and the workSpaceStudio, but both complained about file/directory permissions on various locations under the /opt/bea directory. I started fixing this by opening up group write access to the user_projects directory, but I ended up chasing down countless other permission problems in other places. I eventually gave up trying to find all of the individual directories that needed group write access enabled and managing group ID's from the user accounts.
I don't want to open up write access on the whole /opt/bea/... directory tree to everyone, but I do need to support multiple users from the same installation.
What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Eric,
Are you trying to install BEA using root/root and then trying to start Weblogic server instances in a domain using other user/group? If this is the case there might be some permissions problems as most of the Weblogic libraries will be owned by root.

  • Warning:  SUID File (11 Files) and "Permissions Differ" - No Install Disc

    Hello,
Have had my black macbook for about 3 1/2 years now (leopard) and having problems with it being really sluggish and freezing up. Additionally, the fan is coming on a lot and being really loud. I have checked activity monitor (all processes) and nothing is running over 12...Question is are the "warning suid files" and "permissions differ" the source of these problems? I can't find my original install disc (have one for my i mac but no good I hear.) Guessing I need to go to the genius bar to fix this issue...Thanks, PoorGradStudent

Hello and welcome to the discussions, Those warning are normal and nothing to worry about.
While your at the genius bar see if they will run a diagnostics test on your laptop. Note, if your problems only show up after it has been on for an hour, get there an hour early and warm it up.
No use in have them look at it if you can't replicate the problem.
    Cheers,

  • Java 7 u45 gives yellow warning about a missing Permissions attribute that is not missing

    Hi!
I have a Swing application distributed with Java WebStart. Since update 45 I can't get rid of the yellow warning about a missing permissions attrribute. I have reduced the JNLP to only reference a single signed jar that has the following manifest:

Clearly, both Permissions and Codebase are there. Still I get the warning. Anyone knows if this is bug in Java WebStart?
    TIA,

Are you signing your app with a 3rd party codesigning certificate ? Self-signing wont work anymore.

    FileWriter file = new FileWriter ("$HOME/.netrc");
2- .netrc file must have the following permissions: -rw- --- --- but when i create the .netrc file the following permissions are on default: -rw- r-- r--, how can i change this permissions? (In java code, i can't use chmod.....)
3- Are there any way to pass parameters to a .netrc file? If i get to do this i needn't change the permissions because i can't modify or create/destroy this file.
    Thanks in advanced!!!

1- .netrc file is in $HOME directory but i can't
access to this directory from java code. The
    following line producesan Exception (directory
    doesn't exists)
FileWriter file = new FileWriter ("$HOME/.netrc");$HOME would have to be replaced by a shell, I don't
think you can use it as part of a legal path.
    Instead, use System.getProperty("user.home");
    Ok, thanks
2- .netrc file must have the followingpermissions:
-rw- --- --- but when i create the .netrc file the
following permissions are on default: -rw- r--r--,
how can i change this permissions? (In java code,i
    can't use chmod.....)Yes, you can: Runtime.exec("chmod ...");
I need to use estrictly the .netrc with -rw- --- --- permissions
Yes, i can use Runtime.exec ("chmod ..."); but i don't like very much this solution because is a slow solution, am i right?
3- Are there any way to pass parameters to a.netrc
file? If i get to do this i needn't change the
    permissions because i can't modify orcreate/destroy
this file.I don't think so. Why do you need the .netrc file in
Java at all? Writing a GUI frontend?I want to use automatic ftp in a java program and FTP server, the files and path are not always the same, so i can:
    - modify .netrc (for me is the complex option)
    - destroy and create a new .netrc (is easier but i have permissions problem)
    - use .netrc with parameters but i haven't found any help about it
    Thanks for your prompt reply!!!!

  • Roles and permissions

I have a couple of questions.
    1. How would I go about fitting a custom permission resolver for SOA suite ?
    2. Is there a way to print the roles, users and permissions to debug ? My roles could be in LDAP or a database but permissions are in system-jazn-data.xml. Why are these permissions stored in a XML file ?
    Mohan

Where do the LDAP implementation classes write their logs ?
My worklist application writes logs to orabpel.log like the following.
    <2009-05-16 16:46:44,954> <DEBUG> <collaxa.cube.services> <LDAPUtil::getJNDIContext> JNDI Connection received
My bpel console hits openldap but does not write log the same way. It shows that the user does not have enough privileges. So basically I don't see what is being done by my LDAP classes.

  • Doubt about Role and Policy

    Hi everyone,
I have a doubt about role and policy,
I'm using OBIEE11.1.1.5, I try to creating role R1 by creating like BIConsumer.
then I go to policies interface,Edit 'BIConsumer' policy,
I find only one role 'BIConsumer' under grantee.
so I'd like to ask why 'R1' is not under policy 'BIConsumer' while R1 has permission like role BIConsumer ???
    thanks in advance!

Application policies are sets of java permissions that are associated with a principal which is BIConsumer role in this case which grants permissions necessary to use, or to consume, content created by other users.
So when you try to create like BIConsumer, you are not modifying the existing BIConsumer principal policy( which you should never do) but instead trying to create one similar grants like it.
Usually as long as you are not dealing with BI Publisher, Financial Reporting and Real-Time Decisions application security permissions restriction, you would not have to modify any of these policies and use the default ones.
Hope this helps. Pls mark if it does.
    Thanks,
    SVS

  • Recent iMac Convert - Questions about Trash and Applications Icon on Dock

Any advice would be appreciated. 2 issues:
    1. I transfered my windows files to my iMac today and having been cleaning up the various folders. I have deleted quite a few files and have opened and emptied the trash icon many times. From about 1 hour ago, the trash icon will no longer open when I single left click it, double left click it or right click it and select "Open". I can right click and select "Empty", but now I can not review what I am about to delete just in case I have accidently moved a file to the trash that I should not have.
    2. On the right side of my dock I only have icons for Documents and the Trash. I thought I was supposed to also have an icon for Applications. How can I put Applications in its proper spot on the dock. I tried dragging the applications icon from Finder to the space on the dock between the documents icon and the trash icon, but it will not allow me to do so.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help.

Same way. Navigate to /Home/ folder then drag the Documents folder to the right side of the Dock.
Visit the site reference I gave you. You may find a solution in the FAQ I mentioned.
You may also try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Users and permissions for a small home server

    Hello community,
I have been using Linux on the desktop for many years now, but unfortunately my knowledge about servers is very limited, almost non-existent. Therefore my question is most probably equally well fitting here and into the newbie corner.
I'm trying to set up a little home server which should be in charge of following tasks:
    - CUPS print server in the local network
    - access to shared files through NFS in the local network
    - backup (again over NFS)
    - an Owncloud server
    - maybe a mail server in the long run (NSA, paranoia, etc. )
For now I have set up the print server, the NFS server and was working on the Owncloud installation, when Owncloud gave me some errors with users and permissions. So I was led to the idea of rethinking the users and permissions on server. So far there is only the root user who may do everything. This seems like a quite unsafe configuration. I'd like to make it safer. First, the printer, the backup and the locally shared files should be accessible from the local network only. SSH access should also be accessible locally only. The Owncloud file folder should be accessible from the internet, but of course only for the Owncloud users registered to the Owncloud server.
What is the best way to set up users and permissions for such a set up?
    Thanks for any hints,
    PhotonX

Hi, i think it depends who are you serving for, if you are just serving for a small office or home server or a big organization. The following quick thinking just came to me:
I think cups set automatically a system  user of its own, and runs as it, so no trouble there. Cups also has the option to set users and it uses the system users as default, i think it depends in in how many printers/users your have in your server.Users that can manage cups are in the lp group.
For nfs every user should have their home, samba is also a good option if you have  windows computer in your network and it integrates better with graphical file  managers like nautilus in the clients side, but it is a hassle to configure.
You should run the web server (owncloud ) as it own user, maybe you can manage to set something up for owncloud in the filesystem, but owncloud uses a database, and the users for owncloud are stored in there, and they are not system users.
You can configure ssh for local use only enabling the corresponding subnets in your /etc/sshd.conf and optionally but recommended you can set a firewall and permissions. You can use iptables but i prefer ufw for simple setup.
I think you should read the wiki:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/users_and_groups
and the other respective topics in the wiki.
Also as an advice i know that arch linux is a great distribution, but you have to do more work to mantain a stable server. I would recommend debian or another more conservative distro, but of course it is your choice.

  • Icons gone after disk and permissions repair

I ran Onxy to clean my MBP and it told me I had to run disk utility from my Mac osx install disk and do disk repair and permissions before I could use it.
I did it, took about 5 minutes to complete, but now whenever I save something from photoshop the preview image of the icon is gone, there's no icon, just the name of the file. I went looking through finder and half of my preview icons are gone on pictures, pdf's etc.
The finder preference icons are gone too: http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb147/shdwslayer/Screenshot2010-10-20at75332P M.png
And here there are blank spaces where the icon is supposed to be, just the name of the file: http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb147/shdwslayer/Screenshot2010-10-20at75413P M.png
So my question is, is there any way to get the icons back and have saved files show the icon again? Or should I just use time machine to go back to yesterday?

I just restarted my computer, again, and the icons are back. Don't know where they went, but they're there now.

  • XML Forms and Permissions

    Hi guys,
I am using EP 6.0 SP14 and have a question about how to use XML Forms and permissions.
The scenario is... We have a KM Navigation iView which displays the RenderListItem form using the NewsExplorer layout set. Several people have access to this iView, so they can create new news. Also, for each news created, there are the options Edit and Delete.
The issue is that we do not want someone to Edit/Delete the news created by another person. We want only the "owner" to do this task. Two acceptable solutions would be:
    - The RenderListItem only displays the items created by that particular user, allowing it to use the options Edit/Delete.
    - All news created are displayed, but only the ones created by the current user will have the Edit/Delete options available
Is it possible to reach one of the above solutions using configuration only?
    I found this thread:
Repository Service auto change resource permissions
But it uses Java programming, which we would like to avoid, if possible.
    Thanks in advance
    Fernando Urzedo

    Hi Fernando,
    > not familiarized with the Portal API yet.
    > Furthermore, we are running low on time
Take it as your chance to get more familiar with it
Especially the KM framework has a lot of interfaces where you can extend the functionality with a lot of magic, which simply is not possible by just configuring something.
    > in that third thread,
    > how should I import it into portal?
"Third thread"? I think you mean the thread you have referred to?! (So: Implementing a Repository Service).
To get s solid basis for this, search on google for
    <i>Detlev "Repository Service" site:forums.sdn.sap.com</i>
You can start implementing this by the KM (RF Component) wizard, which creates the basic implementation for you.
    Hope it helps

  • Ownership and permissions problem

    Hi all
I've got a new iMac 27" running 10.6.4. Following my old Mac Pro's departure I have copied all my backed up work files and folders from an external drive to my documents folder (not via Migration Assistant / Time Machine backup - MA wouldn't recognise the drive!). I can open the files without problem, but I can't save them to the same file or folder. If I try to do so, I get a message saying the file is either read-only, I don't have permission, it may be open by another application, close everything - basically I can't. If I create a new folder with its own new files, I can save and re-save without a problem, its just my old/existing work files that I can't work on.
I've just spent an hour and a half on the phone to Applecare who cannot resolve this. We tried fixing permissions from the Mac OSX startup disc, creating a new user account with admin capabilities, manually getting info on specific files and checking the permissions, unlocking and applying permissions to all enclosed files and folders so they have read and write capability, but nothing works. Applecare tell me to re-save the files with a new name in a new location. I have literally hundreds of thousands of files, this is not an attractive solution. So they suggested I try and find a 3rd party app that will batch-change ownership on these files.
I've read a lot about people with permissions problems but none quite the same as mine. If the Apple OS (get info) and Disk Utility cannot change the permissions so I can work effectively, can another piece of software realistically do this?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Dave
